updating to Dl09, can someone tell me if this correct

I am currently running dl01 and I want to upgrade to dl09 tonight. Here's what I am going to do please tell me if this is correct.
using these pieces
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894126
boot phone into download mode, flash the dl09 modem file via odin (pda section). then restart and somehow get back into recovery and wipe everything and flash a dl09 rom and kernel.
I guess my concerns surround what happens after the modem is flashed. Will the phone boot like normal after just flashing the modem so I can use cwm to get into recovery or will I have to boot into recovery via volume button?

Are you running stock DI01 or rooted/ROMed/etc? If you're stock, just OTA update. It began rolling out last night.
If you're rooted/ROMed/etc, then yes, your steps are correct.
Apply modem, boot into CWM, apply ROM and kernel.
The OTA is out and you can pull it - I'd reset the phone to do it, though.
Yeah, if you are still stock, just hit the update function in the phone and get the OTA update. It takes less than 10mins and doesn't mess with anything on your phone.
Then if you feel the need to root for roms or something do it after.
Thanks everyone for the quick reply, I am not on stock anything at the moment so I will go ahead and get this thing updated with odin

[Q] S4 Restore to original MDL version or how to install Fixed Kernel via CWM

Help needed!
Tried to root my Sprint SPH-L720 MDL version (really need to be able to use it as HotSpot like I was using my previous phone) and having issues with getting root access as Sprint has added a SetUID restriction on the kernel with the latest update.
But most important, Good Enterprise stopped working as it detected that phone is rooted or partially rooted (as Titanium Backup gives me a message that it was able to acquire Root Privs – but its UI never opens up). Not having Good Enterprise is not an option for me.
So, decided to go back to Original as seen posts with instructions (these were key for me to move forward with rooting) that it is easy to do, however only know realized that all these ports are using MDC version of Firmware and I could not find Official Firmware for MDL version. Only MDC version available. Ouch!
Question #1: Anyone knows if MDL version of Original Firmware even exists and if yes where to download it? Or should I just use MDC version? Would it work?
If recovery is not available, I could pass this phone to one of my kids but I will need to fix root. To fix root I need to flash new MDL kernel using ODIN & CWM recovery. I have Fixed MDL Kernel, but I could not find instructions on how to flash it.
Question #2: Anyone could point me to the instructions on how to flash Kernel using ODIN and CWM Recovery?
Thank you In advance!
only way right now is to flash mdc and then take the ota.
for some reason Samsung has not released the mdl yet.
kernels you flash in recovery like a rom just read the install instruction in any kernel thread.
there is also an unroot script posted in dev you might try.
for rooting did you odin cf auto root? pretty hard not to root that way.

How to update from MF9 (rooted) to MJA

I've been reading the 4.3 release thread in the "general" forum, and the other relevant threads over there, and am confused after reading thru' 50+ pages of experiences...
I'm on the stock MF9 ROM, rooted, with hotspot mod installed, and camera shutter sound disabled in xml file), and TWRP custom recovery.
I'd like to get to MJA, rooted, with hotspot mod installed, and TWRP custom recovery. (if possible, I'd like to get there without tripping the KNOX counter, but if that is not possible, so be it)
From what I've read, it looks like I need to
Nandroid backup (optional)
Install stock MF9 tar file using ODIN (recovery, ROM, Modem, kernel) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485502
Take OTA (or use update file from google server link on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504349)
Reboot (Don't install any apps at this time)
Use CF Auto to root using ODIN - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41743640&postcount=3
Factory reset just in case
Install goo manager, and flash custom recovery TWRP
Reboot
Reinstall apps
Install new MJA odexed hotspot mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256950
Nandroid backup
Is this about right? (and are the links to the right files/posts?)
Is there an easier/safer way of doing this?
Is there any way to not trip the knox counter? Or does the flash of CF Auto to root always trip it?
Any other troubleshooting steps in case things go wrong?
Example:
If phone gets stuck in bootloop at any step - what steps should be attempted before pulling battery, and trying to reflash in ODIN?
If phone shows android lying down with red exclamation mark, what should be attempted?
If root doesn't stick after reboot, what should be attempted?
If custom recovery doesn't stick, what should be attempted?
Hopefully, this will help others like me as well.
Thanks!
looks good, sounds right...

[Q] go back to stock recovery

HI,
ive already read all the threads about flashing to stock. However im wondering if theres an easy way to get rid of TWRP so i have the original recovery so that i can OTA. Im currently on stock 4.2.2, rooted with xposed. Is there an easy way?

stock recovery shows different firmware version than build? is this normal?

I just noticed when I booted into stock recovery that it says I have the NIH firmware. However the build and info section says that I'm on NK4...i thought this was odd. Im stock rooted with cf auto root. Only very minor changes (mobile data toggle and frozen apps) I know CF autoroot flashes a recovery to apply root. Stock recovery btw I was wondering if this may have something to do with it? Is this normal? Thanks
also i noticed the dm verity verification failed message at the bottom... thats something i hadnt noticed previously. im not seeing any adverse affects.
damn nobody has noticed this? can somebody check their stock recovery please?
most of us here dont have stock recoveries mate
