Hey everyone...I tell ya, I sure am enjoying all these awesome custom roms and kernels. Great job to all the developers here, putting in the blood, sweat, and tears for the advancement of the community, thank you so much. One feature that I saw in a Xoom build was the GPU overclocked, and while I'm sure it won't interest everyone, and there is probably only little gain to be had from it, I would love to have the option to oc the CPU and the GPU for the highest performance possible...please. Well I think that covers it unless someone else shares my desire to see this feature. Thanks for all your work and consideration XDA and have a great day.
if ur CPU OC than GPU too
Apparently not so on the Motorola Xoom as there are two versions of Tiamat 1.4.4... with and without GPU OC. Tiamat 1.4.4 Full Throttle

oc-ing the gpu doesnt get you anything... gpu is default 200mhz 2d with 300mhz in 3d and it can be uped to 250mhz 2d and 400mhz 3d but it cant be software controlled and it will eat more power...
and no oc-ing the cpu doesn't oc the gpu, its a separate part of the tegra2 processor
Hey Thor, thanks for joining the conversation. Based on what youve seen so far, how well are the tegra GPU cores being utilized? Suffice to say I've pulled off insane desktop GPU overclocks that showed almost nill gain with drivers that werent mature in which the GPU cores werent being loaded past 50% . I realize that the tegra is a horse of a different color, but isnt it still affected by the specific driver optimizations, hence the THD enhancements? Just out of curiosity as I very much trust your experience. I am still interested in trying it with definitive comparisons to follow...well about as definitive as synthetic benchmarks can be anyway.
I just saw that you have a new beta... Yay. I cant wait to give it a whirl.
I have been over locked for a little while. Max I have done is 1506 but it tends to be slightly unstable. I run 1400 now and haven't had any issues. biggest difference I notice is home screen transitions load fast and don't lag and programs load much quicker. there doesnt seem to be any games that will push the CPU hard so I don't notice much of a difference there.

I've had 1600mhz going strong with no instability, benchmark after benchmark, the only issue I've had is the device shutting down when left alone for too long, but I consider that a useful standard function. Otherwise 1600 performance has been rock solid. I decided to take it upon myself to take this girl apart' clean the CPU off, remove the thermal pad, and apply some as5....though the chip didnt really run very hot to begin with. Now until I have the option to go for 1800mhz, I'd like to see where the max threshold is for cpu/gpu oc.
I have mine overclocked also at 1600.. Runs very stable at this speed and benchmarks not too bad:

I have had higher speeds, but very unstable...

Can only the 3D Clocks be altered without touching 2D? If yes can you make such a version of the ........... that "nobody" knows anything about?

Very nice quadrant score man, I used to score alot higher until I updated to stock 3.1+ updates. It seems like the higher my OS version number gets, the lower my synthetic performance gets overall.

that's what mine did. it would reboot while sleeping. sometimes it would be 3 or 4 times in an hour.

Umm, what rom do you guys run for this? I'm on rooted and CWMd stock 3.1 rom. Can't find a OC kernel for it. Only one I can find is for ASUS based roms. I prefer to keep stock rom if it's possible.

You should try richardtrip's kernel. His kernel is keep updating Very good performance and stability.
thats the kernel i am using o/c 1400 works very well. you can find it in the development thread.

Thanks! Works great. Do you feel the HoneyVillian rom runs faster with the v2.4 Kernel or about the same as stock Acer 3.1 HC rom with v2.4 Kernel?
So far I can keep stable at 1.5 after 2 hours of use. It's also slept for 30 mins and seems ok at that too.
Also what kind of Scaling do you guys use? Ondeman, Interactive? On my phone I use ondemand.
Share your overclocking speeds here,
mine is fixed at 1.4GHz
Mine fixed at 1.5, governor InteractiveX

1.3ghz, won't go any higher, don't plan on getting a new phone for another year so I don't want the cpu to **** up right now.
Can someone tell me the differences between the different governors and I/O scheduler? I am running 1.4ghz with ondemand nowadays

CPU scaling governors controls the CPU clock speed according to CPU load, based on the governor you are using. In setCPU there is a site that explains the various governors.
I/o schedulers controls the resources given to processes. Don't know too much about that.
Correct me if I'm wrong
Mines at 1ghz at all times until i play a snes/genesis emu then i put it to 1.9ghz, it's the only 100mhz step that stops the crackling sounds, and it can go to 2ghz stable but no point in stressing it past 1.9ghz
Mine is running at original 1Ghz and I don't feel the need to overclock at all. When playing FPse and Snes9x the games run very well anyway. I don't get any crackling sound unless I play in an area with bad reception so it searches network all the time.

doesn't anyone else get crackling sound in SNESDroid, GENPlusDroid?
there the only two old snes/gen emu's that give 100% graphical/sound reproduction but need a lot of cpu/gpu
All the other emu's give me crappy sound/glitches in secret of evermore, and the water in chemical plant in sonic 2 is missing sooo..

Have you tried Snes9x? SNESdroid is based on Snes9x and is a bad rippoff. Snes9x is like the true Snes9x that is available for PC and has better sound/emulation than SNESdroid. Besides, you paid for SNESdroid right? The author of that app illegally took money for that emulator as its based on open-source. That's a reason why it was pulled of the market.
You can find Snes9x on explusalpha.com

DL Secret of evermore and go to the menu/enter name and listen to how bad that sounds, now play it with SNESDroid
Hear the difference?
The droid emulators are slower because they have more accurate emulation not because its a worse emulator, it even has things like shader support. Plus most of that devs emus are open source which is awesome! If you want them for free just compile them yourself.

Never played that game. I'm sure this can be applied between other games vice versa. In my experience though all games I play runs as well or better in Snes9x. Never stumbled upon a game so far that for me sounds bad or bugs in graphics.
Another thing with that emulator that I love is that you can turn off linear filtering for the graphics so the pixels are intact without blurring the heck out of them. Only that feature alone is worth a lot for me.
But personal taste is like the ass. It's divided =)

Yeah. I apologize.
I'm curious. Our phones go as high as 2Ghz? Sounds insane. Doesn't it kill the battery?
My Play at 1Ghz feels a lot faster than my HTC Z did when it was clocked to 1.2Ghz.
Quadrant score on my Z was 2500. On my Play it is around 1300 unclocked. Which leads me to believe the Quadrant scores are pretty much useless for comparison as my Z needed over 1Ghz for games to run smooth while they run perfectly smooth on my Play at 1Ghz.

I suppose it's different architectures of arm cpu's and different instruction sets that makes a game/program run faster on one but not the other.
And i wouldnt trust quadrant to save my life, i get 1600 to 1800 underclocked and 2500 to 2900 overclocked to 1.9GHz then 2500 below for 2GHz so i dont know.
Also battery life is quite bad at 1.9ghz but runs out significantly slower on 1.7ghz
Hi,
fast and stable at 1.6Ghz using performance governor on default use. 122Mhz powersave on idle, and original 1.0Ghz ondemand for calls
1.2ghz on demand here but I can go to 2ghz.

Well I've never had to OVERCLOCK to get more performance from my phone. The GPU is more than enough to handle whats out there and don't see the need to turn up the juice. 9/10 if the game lags its due to the kernel or the rom. 1.4ghz on the cpu and 400mhz on the gpu + are unnecessary IMO.

Yup i know..for most apps and day to day life..it runs everything fine enough..
However i do see some lags and fps drops in demanding games..please i am not talking bout the temple run-angry birds type of games..
Thats why waned to know few settings being used by users to increase some fps and use my device to maximum potential..
Also any one has any idea bout a really stable rom-kernel combo that performs really good with 3d games..? I have heard the roms like CM9/RR etc give bad 3d performance(even though they are quite faster!!)
thanks
Not sure what to tell.. but many people know that Galaxy S II with CM10 (currently using 21. september nightly) uses around 35% in idle of CPU power.. just 5 apps installed.. same with HW composing disabled. and same with force 2D GPU rendering checked
While. samsung one rom does use in idle around 3-12% of CPU usage with force gpu 2D rendering checked
Games are smoother on samsung than on cyanogen (both are running siyah kernel 4.1.5 with oc at 1.6 + GPU 400 + touch boost to 400 (step4)
example games: GTA III, Gangstar Rio
Why?
Not sure what is bottleneck... if fsync (really don't messed with it)
or memory bandwith,I/O,GPU, or cpu
during Gangstar RIO..
cpu runs with both cores around 65% and game lags during driving..
GPU can't tell.. as MaliStats reports bad value (400MHz 1100mV 100,1% ) all the time
Any known fix for these lags and cpu usage?
Gangstar rio is less laggy when HW composing disabled..
Because the HWcomposer isn't working correctly in CM10 so you have lags in games.
CPU takes all the load in 3D games on CM10.
BTW this question should be in CM10 thread.
HW composer still doesn't work? it is much smoother than it was before 3 weeks
now animations are smooth while before.. they were laggy as hell

ERROR! You are testing both roms with a "custom kernel"(siyah).
Ask in Siyah thread.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
HWComposer is not working fully, CPU is doing all the graphics works. You see smoothness due to other improvements and the Dual core CPU that's inside.
UC to 200Mhz and try scrolling, you'll see lags which you won't see if HWComposer is working correctly.
Hw composer is an issue, but sensor polling is another one, never resolved in cm builds, coming from cm7 days.
I tried contacting several developers, but none seemed to see or wanted to work on the problem.
While idling, sensors use +- 10% cpu on any CM based rom (at 200mhz), while on Samsung based the usage is +- 2% idling while screen is on, same conditions. Android system process is to blame, and inside the process sensors threads are the ones sucking cpu. Disabling sensors (autororate, light, gps) did not help to reduce the problem in my case. Using different kernels did not help either...
Had to live with the issue at this point...

Hello there, community!
This is my first post on xda forums and I will try to make it quick.
I'm looking for a fast ROM that will run smoothly sacrificing more unneeded features and options. I found stock 4.0.3 rom stuttering and lagging from time to time, even in Contacts section.
With no work in the background, my LG has around 80-100 RAM left, which I'd like to increase. I also plan on running some more advanced 3d games, so a little overclock would also be nice - I know this CPU is already oc'd from 800 to 1000 mhz but maybe it's worth trying to push it a bit more and take the weight off by disabling CPU rendering in favor of the GPU (I mean this great performance boost everyone is talking about when you force GPU rendering). If it works the way I think and with the GPU taking care of all the rendering, maybe processor won't heat so much and could be overclocked above 1 Ghz. What do you guys think?
In short, I'm looking for a fast ROM with a gaming and overclocking potential. Thanks in advance for the replies!
I use Slimbean 4.1.2 and it's really smooth and fast!
It's also perfect for my gaming needs but I don't really know what games you're after though!
Give it a try, you will certainly like it!
Sent from my LG-P700 using xda app-developers app
Well, I'm looking for overall better performance. For example on this stock rom, in the game Galaxy on Fire sound and interface lags etc. I found it odd that some simple games like Jetpack Joyride often stutter during gameplay, but Rayman Jungle Run with much better sound and graphics runs smoothly.
I'll check the rom you mentioned. Any more sugestions?
You should give a try to PAC ROM 4.3.Even it has some bugs,I found it smoother than I thought. After it will become stable,it will be one of the best or even the best ROM as performances.
