[Q] Rip stock radio? - Fascinate General

I have searched hi and low, left and right. Oh and just about the entire internet. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to rip a radio/baseband from a phone (Galaxy s/Showcase/Fascinate). I am pretty experienced with adb and other command prompt tools in the sdk. I need to rip a radio to help restore a phone to stock. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

We don't know where the radio file gets flashed to. Have you looked in the Development forum? You should be able to find the DI01, DJ05, and DL09 modems in there if you need them.

Thanks for the info. I tried all of those radio/modems. My stock modem is actually 04K.DJ20. SO I am thinking there is a minor difference between the Verizon and the Cellular South Showcase radio/modems. Which means there might be a minor difference in the fascinate and the showcase. Thank you for the ideas, as I did not think about the other modems.

Didn't realize that you were on the Showcase.

All Current Radios

here i have all current known radios for the Eris. these radios can be flashed via Amon_RA recovery. ive put them in update.zip format. so all u need to do is place them on the root of ur sdcard and flash like any other update.zip from recovery.
FLASH THESE AT UR OWN RISK. LIKE ANYTHING ELSE U DO TO UR PHONE. IM NOT RESPONSIBLE
INSTRUCTIONS
step one: download and put the desired radio update.zip on to the root of ur sdcard.
step two: flash the update.zip via Amon_RA recovery. by selecting update.zip from sdcard and choosing the radio zip u want.
step three once it flashes it will ask u to press a something to continue. do it and itll reboot and take a few seconds on a bootloader screen. once that finishes, it will reboot back into recovery. from there just choose reboot, to boot into android
step four go into settings>about phone>software information. under baseband is ur radio version. enyoy
now as for the question of which radio is better...
there is no good answer to this question. some enjoy results from different radios. an up graded radio will always do good. as it will most likely give better battery life and signal then the stock radio. all of these radios will work with any rom (1.5 - 2.1) and unless a dev has inclued a radio in their rom. the radio will always remain the same unless u flash it with another.
now for the question about why some radios say heroc instead of eris...
the heroc radio are just that... heroc radios from sprint. its a cdma radio so it works the same as verizon radio. dont believe me?! do a strings | grep on all the radios and u will see they are all using both sprint and verizon logins and such. also as right now im running the latest radio which is the heroc one. everything works fine and its the one ive had best results with on both my Sprint Hero and my wifes Verizon Eris. although others may find better results with other versions.
please feel free to post ur radio results here on this thread.

Nope, everything should work fine, i use to use sprint radio's all the time on my winmo devices, i allways thought they worked better
its only been 10 minutes or so since i flashed the latest radio, but my 'Time without a signal %' is at zero without the Airplane Mode trick will keep checking, but this seems to be good news! Not that I have ANY idea if that bug could even be related to this haha, but whatever, as long as it works..
edit: well over an hour now..still 0%
edit2: started doing it again after the next reboot, airplane trick still needed
Thanks for the tutorial, and for those that browse and don't want to register an account (don't be lazy) I have the files hosted over at photex-media dot net

just dont forget to give credit. i didnt get these radios in update.zip form. so i did all that work myself. also took the time to flash each of them before posting to make sure all was good and they all worked
Please be careful guys, I would not flash your radio without a reason to.
However thanks for the tutorial, I have another eris radio version, but I don't think it would be wise to flash it. Do you want it?
improved sig
have had the newest eris radio for a couple hours now and can say that the signal strength has signifigantly improved and can't confirm battery drainage at this point but the signal strength is there for sure...jcase why would it not be advisable to flash a radio update?

pm me and give me the info on it. please
also there is no reason to try and scare people about these radios ive posted. they all work and it will do no harm to flash them. ive noticed better reception and battery life since flashing the latest sprint radio on both my heroc and eris. if anyone flashed the root leak they got a radio that ive posted here. its actually an older radio at that.
but yeah if u are sure u have an eris or sprint radio. then please give me the info and ill test it.

flashing anything can be risky. but i wouldnt have posted this or anything else that i have not tested myself. i wouldnt ever post something that would put anyones device at risk. ive flashed many radios and know what im doing. i wouldnt advise anyoone to go out and find mystery radios to flash as that is a sure fire way to brick ur device.
again all of my radios were tested by me before i posted and they all work well

excellent, thanks for sharing and taking the time and the risk to test and post these as i stated previously signal is much improved with the newest eris version...living close to an airport seems to reek havoc on my coverage idk why, again thanks.
I know this sounds bad but how the heck do you see what radio you current have I know its in settings but I am having a brain fart or am just to blind to see it in about phone.

read my first post and it tells u where to look
toastcfh of course you get credit, i'm just trying to have a nice organized site with tutorials and files locally hosted as an alternative. XDA becomes pretty cluttered at times. I hope you don't mind I did some spelling corrections
And for a quick review before flashing the heroc rom I had maybe 0-1 bars in my apartment, now I have 2-3 and calls connect EXTREMELY quick in comparison.

Can you downgrade radios unlike Roms?

I have a reason to inform them they are running a risk. A lot of people out there have no clue what they are doing nor risks involved. If something happens, say some idiot pulled the battery, or flashed on a low battery, bad things could happen. or if a file happens to be corrupted.
I have the radios from stock 1.5, root 2.1 and leak 2.1, which do you not have.

[help] modem for fascinate?

Hi all
I almost bricked my phone by voodooing and rootting at incorrect orders. With the help of this forum, I finally was able to go back to stock D101. With one catch: I dont have cell signal.
;m guessing somewhere along the line I wrecked my modem.bin, so I'm asking if there's any way to fix it. I tried the modem with this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790085
but it always is unable to complete the installation (using cwm).
Is there any way I can get modem back? Is there any ROM that contains a working modem that I can use? I'd be happy to try anything that could give me a working modem now.
Thanks all.
This does not belong in the development section. In the future, please post your questions in the General forum. Thanks.
That being said, someone may come along to tell you whether or not you bricked your radio.

This should go into General subforum. As far as how you can fix it, well, we do not have a modem.bin to flash to the fascinate.

froyo modem

i am thinking about flashing to 2.2 however i have a question what exactly is a modem in which it pertains to froyo?
PyRo
dont know if bumping is allowed but i need this question answered.
PyRo
Bumping is frowned upon, but a modem is the radio in your phone. When you see a modem file to flash, it's the firmware for your phone's radio. New versions (like the DK17 beta froyo release) need the modem firmware updated because the kernel drivers will not work with an older radio firmware like the ones from DI18, etc.

the radio has to do with the phones reception correct? theirs no way for sprint to know that we are using a different modem software than they released?

Its possible....but probably illegal on their part to query your phone for that info...No They won't know who is running it and who is not. If they did, they would only really have a good idea just how many beta testers XDA has to offer up

[Q] What is a modem?

I've been flashing roms and kernels for over a year now so I know what those are, what they do, and how to flash them. The latest version of Quantum Rom requires the DK17 modem, though, and I don't really know what that is. Where do I get the DK17 modem and do I just flash it like everything else?

A modem is the phone's baseband and (someone else correct me if I'm wrong) it controls how the phone interacts with GPS, WiMax and the CDMA network. As for how to flash it, see this thread (can't post links yet)

Haha thanks! In coming from WinMo, IMO all of this android stuff is way easier to use than WinMo's modding tools.
Odin pass user friendly when your pissed off at it

A modem is short for Modulator/Demodulator. It is the part of device communications that allow them to "talk".

[Q] help on my fascinate!

i have rooted my fascinate and want to run custom roms on it. for some reason, when ever i run a rom that is DJ05, i cant send or receive text messages. so i am stuck with running DI01 roms. can any help me please? i am stuck and dont know what to do. do anyone else have the same problem or am i the only one? is there a fix for it that i havent seen? PLEASE HELP!!!
First, you didn't read and you posted in the wrong forum.
Second, you need to download odin, then flash the modem.bin as the instructions say. Also, do not forget to place the file in pda.
Regarding odin, this phone is a pda not a phone.
I am having this same issue, but I cannot find the correct post about it. Maybe I'm blind? I am really trying the answer

Kudos for at least posting to a related thread.
Find DJ05 modem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869990
(google "dj05 release")
Also be sure to get a DJ05 kernel (and system like black hole 2+ or super clean 0.7+). I love JT's 11/29 novoodoo. There are more recent choices too (I am currently testing geeknik 12/20, available on rom manager, for instance). Avoid Voodoo kernels unless you fully understand them!
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, jingle.
