The whole Mytouch line getting Froyo Pretty soon T-mobile legit news.
I wandering how soon is soon lol they keep saying soon.
Check out the link even has a pamphlet.

Bunch of **** teases thats all they are
"A modified version of the Faves Gallery"......oh joy, now everyone can 'enjoy' that stellar feature!
well, I have heard that it would have Froyo before launch date, that didn't happen. I heard it would be this week (with one day left is possible but not probable). I just saw in another post it would be next week (don't hold your breath). Some reports say by the end of the year. I am inclined to believe it will happen but we will not know when until we get it all of a sudden. Just my thoughts.
from our friend chief:

T-Mobile training was today in store for managers... froyo for mt3g and slide will start rolling out next week.... just fyi
hopefully with an updated sms app, So the normal mytouch is going to get all the sense crap too?

Froyo is the Android base, not necessarily the UI

"No phone left behind no matter how long we make the Cliq guys wait! Oh... and let's just brush the Behold under the carpet and hope nobody notices that one."
This is likely what the big June 19th event was all about.
They say that is a Father's Day special on tmonews.com. Free phone with a family plan or something. I hope its really a froyo update. Either way if we get root soon... we can update now. well, when its ported. and with sense ui, that will be no easy task. Of course, they could port the desire rom.
I wonder how they could roll out FroYo for us next week when the Nexus doesn't even have it's OTA yet?
Unless Google is purposely waiting to do the OTA on the Nexus at the same time as the MyTouch line? Trying to even the playing field a bit?

Google has to mod the 2.2 AOSP code just like everyone else does for their devices. All the OHA members are privy to the latest code equally.
The reason the nexus got an update so far ahead last time appears to be that other other companies didn't appear to care about updating the phones. Now that they have google pushing updates so quickly to their own phone, they are making other phones look lame by having to wait so long for updates.

Interesting theory. I guess there could be several theories behind it as well. I'll play devil's advocate here and say that maybe now, Google has decided not to update the Nexus as quickly either to allow the other devices to catch up, or because they simply don't care anymore (since they aren't selling it directly anymore).
Thoughts?
why would t-mobile open at 8am for an android update?.........
All I have to say is, froyo is going to rock on this slide.
as long as the bloatware they put in the slide will be gone... hate all the crap... >.< want root so i can get rid of the stupid programs that are useless!
Yeah apps2sd and tether will be nice for an unrooted phone. I think it is a little odd that the tmo stuff cannot be removed seeing as this phone is supposed to be "100% you" ...

Hahahha! Exactly what I was thinking... yeah, It should have been removable. I got about 20MB by using factory data reset. All it did was erase some wallpapers and other minor, useless crap. I cant wait until the devs root this baby. Ive got like 20mb left on internal storage. sucks...
I would bet we dont see froyo unitl late summer or fall. HTC has to update sense ui for froyo, plus then the wait on tmobile. I would guess that the MT3G will get a froyo ota before we do.
Oh God... I just had a SCARY thought! What if tmobile doesnt include A2SD on their version of 2.2?! They sure did screw us on the live wallpapers for 2.1 on the MTS. Maybe that was just because of the sense ui. I mean it does animate the weather as a live wallpaper, sort of...
I went into my local tmobile store yesterday in hope of returning my vibrant because of the GPS issue. The employees (2 of them) confirmed to me that the update will come next week with the fix for the GPS issues. They said it'll be along with 2.2 update. I wrapped up my vibrant and bust out of the store as quickly as I went in.. seems like good news to all of us vibrant users. Now its a waiting game... if the update doesn't come next week ill be returning this vibrant for sure.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
That's not exactly "Confirmed" chances are that you'll probably be returning that Vibrant next week. Otherwise the Fascinate would probably be shipping with 2.2 and as far as I'm concerned none of the leaked documentation has indicated that it will.
I want to believe you. I really do.

That is good news. Btw, is the gps problem that bad for you to want to return the phone?

Well, T-Mobile has already confirmed an update in September but I doubt it would be next week. I also doubt that employee knows something that the rest of the world doesn't.
The tmobile rep I talked to on the phone yesterday said the GPS update would be separate from the 2.2 froyo release and should be out in the first 2 weeks of sept and available as an OTA
I went in acting as if i'm just a normal user that doesn't know anything about xda developers or any android website.. (if they actually looked at my phone it has superuser app installed and all that ****, i'll be rejected for sure) on of the guy told me first that the update should fix that and it is a software problem (sigh, i knew that) and he asked me have i read all those on internet and i just simply said NO. he then said the update is gonna fix the GPS issue. I acted more stupid by asking him "do i have to get anything to get an update". he said it'll be rolled out over the air. then another employee, the girl jump into the conversation and asked me about the phone blah blah blah, and she said that the update's coming next week. BTW the GPS is not really a big problem here since i don't really use it.. i tried to return the phone becuz i was thinking i should wait for the G2, i just bought vibrant so far pretty good, applied lag fix and i always get 2200+ on quadrant..
PS. there's no reason for me to lie and speculate things, i just say things that i experienced..
Are you saying you dont think it will come next week, or are you saying not at all? Cuz its definitely getting 2.2, im just not expecting it next week...

I know it's bad enough for me to want to return mine if the fix doesn't work. The GPS on this phone is pretty bad as is. My TouchPro 2 was MUCH better. Both for lock times and keeping the signal.
Driving around in 3 major cities on clear sky days, my Vibrant loses it's GPS signal pretty much every time. Sometimes it resumes GPS after a few seconds, sometimes it takes a few minutes or never regains GPS lock. It's inconsistent to say the least.
I'm using Copilot Live and Google Maps on both the TouchPro 2 and the Vibrant. The Vibrant fails with either software.
PS: This is my second Vibrant. The first one had the same issues. I've tried various GPS fixes, but most if not all cause Google Maps to completely lock on my phone. I have to reset the phone to get it working again.
the galaxy s line will definitely be getting 2.2 at some point. I highly doubt it will be next week though. give samsung a little time to drop the fascinate at least.
oh and t mobile reps know absolutely nothing that we don't, so don't take their word on things like this before they're confirmed. they just want you to buy phones/keep your phone.

given that the galaxy s line is sold worldwide. i hope that samsung wouldn't mess this one up. it makes me wonder cuz thinking of "Samsung Rolled out 2.2 update really fast" will make them look a LOT better after the "behold" epic fail. I expect the update but i have until the 16th to return since i live in california and i get 30days window, so i might just wait till the 15th (can't say that i don't give them any chance). if the update doesn't come, i'll return and i believe many more will do the same if they still can.. the G2 is coming out and it looks like it'll be pretty advance. Don't we all just love the phone that are Top of the line without us having to modify it...
@op, this should be in general. has zero to do with development, as it's more just a discussion
I spoke to my local t-mobile store in nyc, she openly said by end of september.
So lets see..... if Samsung release the update and tmobile hold it for some reason and not OTA it yet. Would it really hurt their sales in the us? And if Samsung taking too long to release the update.. would it hurt their sales worldwide ? Anyway we're all just the user who hope one day we'll wake up, picked up our phone and see the update screen waiting for us to press yes. So lets hope that our manufacturer and carrier wouldn't turn us away by doing it "too late" .. and we shall see

There has been no official internal memo about the release of 2.2. The reps are just speculating and telling you what you want to hear so you don't return your phone.
Ever since Google announced 1.5 people have been calling or going into stores asking about updates. Frankly we get asked constantly and are tired of getting asked. We give a generic response like "in a few weeks" just so you will stop asking. Once we know you will know and it will be all over tech blogs.
And when there is a release date not everyone will get it at the same time. OTAs roll out in groups so you might not even get 2.2 till October if you wait for the OTA.

Dead on right there.. The only thing our internal memos have said is Samsung has committed to a September release date for the GPS Fix and rumoured September release date for froyo. All that means is they will start pushing a update in September. To comply with this then can start pushing it September 30th. If your waiting for a update to keep you from returning the phone then just return it now and get it after the update comes out.

Yeah the people at the Tmo store will tell you anything to keep you as a customer... At one of my previous retail jobs I was told to lie twice a day if possible, just to get me in the mode if I had to bc I didnt know something.. Its their job to sell you something, if it happens to be a lie, so be it...
T-Mobile announces the same updates to employees as they do to the public.
Sometimes the public finds out about the updates before the employees.
If T-Mobile hasn't announced it somewhere, the employee is making it up.

To a extent, it is true but if you're tech savvy that is incorrect. When a person gets a OTA, the person can get the link of where the OTA is located and post it up. When this is posted, anybody can MANUALLY push the update to their phone. It doesn't even require root, I'd assume it would be to rename to update.zip and boot into recovery and press reinstall packages (Non-Clockwork).
This is how it was during 1.5 -> 1.6 for the G1 and other phones.
The MyTouch 3G Slide has a new update out there. I went to the T-Mobile store on Friday (9-10-10). And while talking to a Rep. about my Slide, he pulled out his and I took a quick glance at the Software number. I remember seeing an 1.44 or .42 on his phone. I didn't say anything about it to him. So I am asking if someone else, has this update on their phone please contact me. Via here or Twitter.
Now I talked to @ChiefzReloaded by Google Talk, we both think it's a "clean up" build gearing up for 2.2.. (So this means it's still a 2.1 update.)
We would like to get a hold of this build, not just to make a ROM of it, but to see if it is to patch root.

Thank You.
Any Update ? Will we be recieving this OTA anytime soon ?

Nothing that isn't openly available on the web. Apparently HTC had a newsletter which explicitly stated that Froyo for Slide would be pushed as an OTA by T-Mobile in December. So I made this post to keep myself informed... most people will come here and make a post, which I'll see via email ASAP.
I have a question. for those that are rooted and are using a custom ROM, will an OTA notification even pop up?

Well that's going to depend on which ROM they are using. Something like CR_MOD and Slidemeroot *will* receive the notification to update. Others, like CyanogenMod Rom's will not since they are missing the APN setting and a few other prerequisites for update notifications. I haven't tried but will see if I add the FOTA APN maybe I'll get the notification (unless some one knows that won't work).

That's the thing, the Slidemeroot ROM will receive OTA messages from T-Mobile that are bogus and will unroot your phone. This is why I do not want any Slidemeroot users to post that they have an update available.
well i have CM6.1 on here. But i suppose once the new OTA for froyo comes out, we'll be able to get some true slide Froyo ROMs out, so it won't be a big deal if i can't get the OTA to my phone anyway lol.
unrooted~
I unrooted anticipating Froyo cause all I kept reading was DECEMBER 15th. and well thats only for the MT3G not the slide. Damn misinformed Tmobile reps. putting out bad info that gets spread like wildfire on the web.
So I HTC, got the number from Tmo Rep. Talked to Tech Support there and the update that just went out is only for MyTouch 3G, NOT THE SLIDE. HTC is waiting for TMOBILE to ask for the Update for the slide, which they have NOT. Then HTC makes it and test it, get payment and approval from Tmobile and then get the okay to pust the update to customers. So Tmobile starts the update ball rolling and then has to push it out after HTC/Android is done with it. The information can't be much more official than that. Hope this clears everything up for anyone who can't get proper answers to their questions. Not questions about a phone we don't have.

Recent article from Tmonews:
With news of the myTouch 3G LE and Fender editions prepping to receive their Android 2.2 update, plenty of myTouch Slide customers are left wondering when is their turn. Well the good news it’s being worked on, the bad news is we’re hearing exactly what kind of trouble is delaying the update. Apparently there are two problems holding up the public release:
1) Wi-Fi calling doesn’t work 100% of the time, we’re not sure what that means, if calls are dropping or not starting at all on Wi-Fi but we know it’s holding up release.
2) The OTA update is right now being directed to the wrong partition, which doesn’t have enough memory to process the update.
We received word that HTC is aware of both of these problems and is actively working on a fix. No release date time frame was given but as soon as we hear more, we’ll drop the news right away!

I returned my Sony Xperia X10 back to Best Buy today, (main reason being the 1.6 version and wanted bigger screen). At Best Buy, none of the phones are live, so you have to take the salesman word for it. He said the Streak "should" have the 2.1 version.
NOPE!!! I get home turn it on and check... it's version 1.6.
What is with Dell??? This is an year old version now.
If I can't update between now and two weeks when my 30 days is up... I'll take it back.
So far, I like this phone... but I'd like to get it to enclair or gingerbread.
You just have to go in settings-->info about the phone --> updates...
And now you have Froyo.
A friend of mines first streak broke (home button stopped working) so they sent him a new one. Last week I met up with him to update it and the OTA update wasnt there.
I messaged someone i know about dell asking if the update was pulled and he said its still rolling out over the next 2-3 weeks and there will be a blog post over at direct2dell soon.
BUT if you don't want to wait for it to reach your device, search on here and modaco and you can find the proper ota update.pkg. Just d/l it, put it on your sd card, reboot the streak, hold both volume buttons, select option 2 and it'll flash 2.2
Since its an official release from dell, it should work just fine (did so on my friends red streak). No flashing lights, no issues, and if dell releases another OTA it should receive it with no issues.
Under the Streak wiki, you should find a link to the 340 update to get Froyo 2.2 on your phone. You can't click on the link, you need to manually type it into the phone.
Or the official can be found here:
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_340_14844_31.pkg
Again, type it in manually into your streak and it should update.
PdaNet won't work?
Hey guys! Thanks for the responses. I was on the road all day traveling from N WA to S OR for a funeral taking place Friday. Just got to looking here on the forum.
I'll keep the phone. I'm impressed with it so far just running 1.6
The screen is just GREAT. Much better than the Sony X10 I had.
My only complaint is getting PdaNet to work on it. Won't accept the modem driver. I had no trouble installing & using PdaNet with the Backflip, iphone3 and Sony X10 before this phone???
I'll update the version when I get back home Sunday.
I went into a large Verizon store in Salem to look around today and the manager asked what phone I had, and I told her that I had the Dell streak. She asked to see it and she was very impressed. She hadn't seen one before and said it looked better than anything she had in the store. That surprised me coming from the competition. Didn't try to sell me a phone at all.
Well, it is off to bed. I'll be hanging here once I get back home and I think I'm gonna like it here.

Yea, same here... Got my streak yesterday and it was on 1.6 too... the software update screen said the same "No Software Updates available at this time" too... so I gave Dell Mobility a call at 1 800 624 9896 and told them I'd like to receive the update link sent to my email address.... which it turns out was the 340 ver for AT&T which I went ahead and downloaded from the XDA Streak Wiki and transferred to the phone and renamed to Update.pkg and performed the update via the vol +/- and power buttons and selected update (#2).... 15 minutes later - Froyo goodness (such as it is under AT&T)
Next stop: rooting!
