Has anyone gotten an update as to when at&t will be releasing the froyo 2.2 OTA update?

Am I wrong?

did you buy the black one or red? i just bough the red one, i ha ordered the black one cancelled order and now re-ordered.
Probably 1 day after Verizon actually sells the iPhone, at&t "should" allow all the android devices to update. I already QDL'd and updated mine.
I wouldn't be surprised if Apple has some stupid agreement that a carrier that handles the iPhone can't update any other manufacturer phones before the iphone updates, or some goofy thing like that.
Or, at&t is a bunch of dumba**'s, that want people to buy a new phone, with 2.2 already installed, versus updating their current phone.
why wait. do it yourself.
just do a lil research.
I agree. Do the update yourself. I was leery to take the plunge but purchased the Streak and updated to 2.2 yesterday. If you follow the instructions it is quite foolproof.
Your waisting your time.. By the time you get your update, 2.2 will be out dated.

I was on the dell support page today. I typed in my Service tag and there was Android 2.1 for the streak for download. I haven't installed it yet. But will do so and check it out. Have anyone spotted this? OS post date was yesterday.
yea I see this too but when you try to download its only 9.3 kb so I know it isnt 2.1, I do wonder if it is some sort of prep for the release of 2.2. Does this mean we can expect something really soon?
Looks like it's just the PC Suite, it was about 32mb. I'll download it when I get home though.

pops up now with a 550 error or 404 error. Sounds like 2.1 is about to release.

I also received the same error. I don't think they were suppose to be releasing 2.1, thought they were going directly to 2.2.

If you go to the dell forums theres a sticky about how tthey're not gonna release any more 2.1 roms for european users and the US is still on track for a 2.2 release... We just have to wait for dell now.

I tried to get it installed but didn't have any luck. Talk about a bummer. I am gonna give them a call.
Looks like it was removed, so maybe something is in the works and may be happening soon.

Streak Android Update News
Sorry folks its just a PC suit not the update for froyo. This discussion has been mutted a few times already. and the streak is going straight to 2.2 by the end of the year.

Other than the 2.x apps that won't install on my 1.6 streak, and the annoying no rotate from the home screen (fixed by the adw.launcher), the 1.6 has been light years faster than my old 6.5x windows mobile phone

It's probably very possible. I haven't seen any devices that are listed that have higher specs than the streak

Possible? yes. Probable? no. As slow as Dell is updating to push Froyo out for the AT&T users, I dont see this ever happening with Gingerbread lol

That's at&ts decision. Not dells. Froyo is out for the streak. Most phones that are unlocked get their releases fast as they don't pass through carriers. They are direct from the manufacturer.

just for a comparison, the Italian version of my actual device, HTC touch HD, never got any ROM update because it was branded (not even locked) by an Italian carrier.
anyway. i don't really think there will be a gingerbread update. at least not a dell official one. all the other competitors have made official statements, tweets, and whatnot about updates to 2.3, silence from dell. skeptical... i just hope they won't be inspired by motorola on this one
i see a chance of dell dropping support for the streak on their mobile line. i dont think its done that well and i think its kinda their fault. however, if it stays on the lineup for another couple months, it may just get gingerbread. id be expecting it more from djsteve than dell though. just as a side note: no android phone on att officially has froyo yet. ponder that.

They are still selling it as new on carriers world round. So.... we'll see? But I'm sure we'll get it ported over one way or another! I haven't had much experience with Android, so I have no idea on how to do any of that kind of stuff ... So I'll wait and see if Dell mentions anything!
I think we will get Gingerbread.. Personally, I've seen more and more good news about the Streak and I would hope that because of this Dell would offer to support the Streak's upgrade path.
We all know Gingerbread is said to be more tablet friendly and Dell has marketed our device as a tablet first (phone 2nd). If it's not official from Dell I'm sure someone from XDA will keep the dream alive
Streaking with the XDA app!
ETA december 31, 2613! lol
Hopefully before streak EOL announcement...

For sure it will get it. Spoke to my dell guy inside and he says demand is up with a 15 day lead time...
What you also have to realize is the dell 7 streak will be out soon and businesses like mine will snatch them up... when people learn about the streak 5 they will buy.
I knew little to nothing about it and I am a tech person.. until my dell guy handed me one to play with...

nothing better than a 5" screen to see it on lol. I agree though i think it will get gingerbread, for the reason that the Dell 7 will more than likely be announced at CES people will jump to get a cheaper model price wise the streak and see if its good so that they can get the 7 for say business. Im sure it will get gingerbread as soon as it starts rolling out at least the unlocked version will lol. Not many have gingerbread if im not mistaken ive only seen the Nexus with a legit gingerbread .
I think theres no gingerbread update for streak
the main new fiture in ginger bread is nfc suported, but dell doesnt have nfc chip on it,,
maybe gingerbread available in the next streak (opus one)

NFC support could be most hyped hardware thingie on gingerbread but mass market adoption will take time and there are many alternative ways to support such functionality even without a built in IC. Whether streak will get an official update or not depends on dell moving its butt to make it happen but I also use nexus one and it will be gingerized without an NFC IC and hopefully start rolling very very very soon...
More than 2 finger multitouch, gyro capabilities and apps utilizing/supporting such features will be more of my concern rather than specific support for NFC on existing hardware as gingerization rolls out...

I feel it will get gingerbread. Reason is that Google hasnt said that you need to have anything to use gingerbread unlike with Honeycomb its just up to dell to get it done.

I think I know what you are talking about, and if I remember correctly it stated honeycomb is "optimized" for tegra2, but it is not required.
I read somewhere in these posts that samsung pulled froyo for good from ever being released on vibrant?
I'm not asking when we are going to get froyo just if we are ever going to receive ota update of it.
Thnx

Nobody knows with any certainty one way or the other. Anything you hear or read is pure speculation.
So far, we know...
NOTHING.
I would say they'd just skip it, they've spent about a year on froyo for us, and nexus s already has gingerbread, so.... yeah.
so far we know nothing
That was in Canada on Bell's Vibrant.
Seeing how I'm running a leaked T-Mobile branded Froyo Rom, I think it's coming.

they pulled the update for Bells Vibrant (which is essentially more of an AT&T Captivate) and not pulled for good.
I was assured by Samsung through the form of a tweet that they guaranteed 2.2 before the new year or end of December.
But we all know how there release dates go.
That's why I flashed onyx

Nexus s doesn't run touchwiz or any of T-Mobile. Carrier Apps, so that phone having Ginger really doesn't mean much, tbh. Hey the drivers work? Whoopdy-doo...
I'm assuming Google is smart enough to keep the Android kernel decently backward compatible, so I don't think that is the brunt of the issue (correct me if I'm wrong, though).

Yeah, it would'nt matter anymore unless the release was something higher that 2.2. Plus I figure it will be loaded.with AT&T's bloatwear. It would just be a plus for those who are not savy in rooting and Tweaking their own OS.

Can people please start putting StreakDroid, SD, Steve's, DJ_Steve's or anything like that before 1.6.0
Sorry i'm not trying to be anal here, it just makes it seem like we're running android 1.6 as opposed to the awesome custom froyo.
Also don't want new peeps to get all confused and then we get flooded with a bunch of redundant pointless topics.
Ok off my soapbox
Also I wouldn't wait for At&t's 2.2... along with all the crap they're gonna put in it, they're definitely gonna remove installation from unknown sources as they have for streaks with android 1.6 sold from bestbuy!

Still no 2.2. Grrrrrrrrr! I'm prolly going to have to gather the balls to try and use qdl again.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I haven't used a carrier specific rom since my old tilt days...tilt, fuze, tilt 2.
Heck, when I got the tilt 2, I told the at&t drone not to set it up, I was going to blow it out anyway. "but...but...you'll void the rom". Yeah, but I won't have the "value" added software bloat either!
I thought about keeping 1.6 on my streak when I got it, just because, coming from windows mobile, it was LIGHT YEARS faster than one of those, but, after delay after delay, I threw qdl, then 318 on it, and it's like a completely new device.
Carriers should GET OUT of the firmware side of things and let the manufacturers handle it, but, since carriers are all about control, don't count on it.
Waiting is just the worst.
That is the main reason I went to flashing.
And the support here for that is super!!

I was thinking it was ROM related so I posted there, But I do get your point. I'll get it straight next time. I am not implying I have the latest AT&T Branded ROM I am actually looking to see about getting the Update.pkg for a custom ROM of my own.
If any one get's it post the link please.
Well, i just got off the phone with an AT&T rep. I was asking him why the flipside got a 2.2 froyo update and us flipout (and charm) owners with basically identical firmware weren't getting this udate. He didnt know why, So he did some checking... There IS an official update for the motorola flipout! All you have to do is ask. He told me that he had set it up to send me an update within today, or tomorrow, and will be calling me back on monday to confirm the update went through. So basically, get on your phones people and get your 2.2 on!
If the update is REAL, then good!
Waiting for news.
Any news? Would love to see an actual upgrade for this phone!

That would be great news indeed! A used Flipout sells for less than 90 euros on ebay (and for about 120 euros you can get it brand new) and if it could get a stable 2.2 ROM I will definitely be buying one!
