Disabling Voodoo/Roms - Vibrant General

I got the new Axura2.1 JK6 and it came with voodoo.
It says I need to disable the voodoo to flash other roms.
I have the voodoo_disable.zip to flash on the phone to disable.
I was just wondering, do I just flash that voodoo_diable the sameway I flash a rom, which is;
Rom manager, and then choose Install Rom from SD Card?
Then it says Wipe data and cache and Backup Existing Rom...
Do I leave those? If anyone can let me know this is the correct method for disabling thing, that would be great!
I just want to make sure this voodoo thing is disabled, so that I can test out other roms.
On a side note: Is there any other good roms that you would recommend?

Just flash it like any rom some good roms are axura 2.2.7 and nero v5 hope this helps you out
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

When I chose the Voodoo_diable.zip on clockwork it brought me to the Android System Recovery..
It only gives me the options of
reboot system now
Reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache data
Do I choose any of those? Or has the voodoo_disable already been flashed from the get go after choosing the file on rom manager and clicking enter.
Sorry I am new to flashing roms.

Any help would be appreciated... Just want to verify.
I just tried flashing a rom from this new Rom Manager that came with this Auxura I flashed last night and it dosent seem to be flashing my rom when I choose the zip file for the rom and select okay.
It reboots and goes to the menu with these options,
reboot system now
Reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache data
Anyone know what I do from here?
I am pretty new to this whole space.
Any suggestions would help... Not sure if there is something wrong the Rom Manager or If I am just missing a step.
Thanks!!

Choose reinstall packages. That should bring you to clockwork. Have you gone into the rom manager app and flashed clockwork? you might need to do that first.

[Q] Flashing ROMS/ Updating ROMS

I have a problem, ever since I started flashing CM 6.1 RC's I have always had to flash them with GAPPS (google apps) I keep reading all voer the forums saying that when you flash them once, when updating you wont have to select GAPPS again. Problem is if I dont select GAPPS then I don't have them on my phone. No market or everything. My first question is how can I avoid having to flash GAPPS every time the rom updates?
2nd question is after every CM update or any ROM update I loose all my apps data. All my saved game data like angry birds, slice it, even apps like handcent get reset to stock. I even use TitaniumBackup Pro to backup all apps + system data and when I restore I still get no old data? Am I selecting the wrong batch to update?
How can I update to 6.1 stable without having to re flash GAPPS and keep my old system data?
Sorry for the noobienes
are you using rom manager.

No not at all. I know that would delete gapps and all previous system data.
HTC Vision S-OFF CM6.1 Rc2 Oc'd to 1.497ghZ
Just tried again, made sure I wasn't wiping or deleting anything, did the whole titanium batch backup all apps + system data. Flashed 6.1 stable, no gapps because I already have had them when I flashed rc3
Result:
Gapps are gone, all apps settings have been reset to stock, titanium did not restore system data n'or app data.
I'm stuck =( can anyone post a step by step. Tut on how to properly upgrade Cm?
HTC Vision S-OFF CM6.1 Rc3 Oc'd to 1.5ghz on Pershoots Kernel
Problem solved. If anyone else is having issues do this

1. download the stable cyanogenmod release 6.1
2. transfer the .zip to the root of your sdcard (i.e. not inside a folder)
3. boot into clockwork (recovery) using rom manager or hold power button down and choose reboot then recovery (the important thing IMHO is to install from recovery, not from inside rom manager)
4. from the main clockwork menu, select 'install .zip from sdcard', navigate to update-cm-6.1.0-vision-signed.zip and install.

I need step by step instructions to flash a newer ROM

I am running Cyanogen 6.0.0-Heroc. I have been for about 6 months but it has some quirks (locks up sometimes, etc) that may be better with a newer version (I hope). Can somebody please give me very explicit step by step instructions to load a new ROM. Also can you give me a link to the newer version of this ROM.
I was scared to death when I rooted my phone and am equally fearful now. I appreciate your help.
Whoops, accidentally clicked thank
Anyway, I can only speak for what I have done. I have heard that updating to gingerbread takes a slightly different approach. (But I haven't tried it yet)
What I do:
Download the rom and put it on my sd card
Reboot into recovery
NANDROID BACKUP
wipe data/cache/factory reset
wipe davlik
wipe battery stats
flash rom
flash gapps
reboot
Flashing a rom is very easy. I suggest the app rom manager. What you do is you put the . Zip file on the root of your sd card (not in any folders) and re-name it * update* without the *. Now flash clockwork recovery mod and boot your phone into recovery mode via rom manager. It will take you into recovery mode (big surprise) now select install update.zip. this should install the mod right away. the phone will reboot and you have yourself a custom rom my friend.
READ THIS FIRST!!!
troubleshooting and other tips: i put this in because i had countless problems when i first flashed a rom...
if your .zip file won't flash because it says it isn't signed the go to options and disable the need for it to be signed.
so if you are given the option to backup your current mod i highly recomend that especialy if you aren't sure about the rom.
next i suggest getting a rom with gapps as you need that to sync your accounts. just boot to recovery mode then select an option to manually install programs or something like that. select gapps and you're gravy!
i see you need a rom update. i cannot give you the link but look for CM7 it is gingerbread and it looks classy. don't be afraid if it takes a long time to boot. that is natural. it should be in htc hero development forums.
backup everything you can. i suggest creating a folder labeled phone or sd card. copy and paste all files just in case.
if you need any more help I would be glad to help you.

[Q] Problem with CM RC1

I rooted my phone today, then installed Rom Manager. Using Rom Manager I tried to install Cyanogen Mod 7 RC 1. It seemed to install fine, but when it starts up it goes to the Cyanogen Mod 7 splash screen and loads for a few seconds, then restarts(not the phone, it just replays the splash screen). I backed up my previous Rom, but I don't know how to restore it. Can someone help me get CM7 working or tell me how to restore my previous rom.
EDIT: I got the standard rom recovered, so I don't really have to worry about that part anymore? But how could I get CM 7 to work if I wanted to re flash it?
Do a nandroid backup through ROM manager first off if you haven't already.
Did you do a full data/cache/dalvik cache wipe before you flashed CM7RC1?
Did you flash Gapps at the same time as the ROM?
btw the RC2 has been out for a while.
Er...no. How do I do wipe the cache data? Also, I don't even know what Gapps is. I'm quite ignorant on the subject of roms.

It really is good to do this through recovery, although if you're not comfortable with general use of recovery, I think if you flash the CM7 zip through ROM manager you can check the box for "wipe data + cache".
Gapps is "Google Apps" aka market etc. etc.. These aren't included in the ROM, and I bet you'd like to have them . The link for the latest Gapps is in the CM7 ROM thread in the dev section. Haven't used ROM manager to flash in a long time (I do it through recovery manually) but I think you can check the box to install Gapps at the same time too if you don't wanna do it manually.
Yeah, I chose to install Google Apps. But are you saying if I download the zip file for CM7 like on my pc, then transfer it to my sdcard then fflash it that way, then I should be able to wipe the cache?

And data. it is extremely paramount (imho) that you wipe all of your data/cache/dalvik before flashing to ensure you get a good quality install.
Also, make sure you have the latest CWM recovery installed via ROM manager (assuming that you do already). Its 3.0.0.5 .
Like I said ROM manager can do this, but for nightlies/RC I just do it through recovery and make sure it gets done right.

[REF] related to CM7 of WILDFIRE BUZZ

Hi everyone.
I'm just creating this thread to share any issues everyone is facing with cm7. And maybe getting issues fixed. Just trying so that everyone will share their issues + known solutions if any. Please specify the CM version on what you are talking about... PLS SHARE THE THINGS..
NOTE : The below things doesn't mean that they should be present in your device. It is always better if you don't have those. Just they are the common issues faced by many people.
FAQ's
1. My GPS / Wifi is not working.
A: This is the issue which most of the people are facing. Re-flashing the radio will solve this (cannot assure this since it didn't solve for some people) . If you are going with re-flashing the radio, please make sure that you have enough battery and using recovery 2.x (the one from rom manager is also enough). And flashing the hboot and radio has the potential to brick the phone, suppose if anything goes wrong. So, better to avoid doing these things frequently.
ALTERNATE METHOD (SAFE) : This is working. First install cm7 and then make a nandroid backup of it. Then wipe everything and restore the previous nandroid backup of stock froyo rom (or any rom with working gps) and use gps to capture your location. Then again wipe everything and restore the cm7 backup. Now gps will be working. And once gps on cm7 works, then even after a hard reset it still works. This seems to be an issue only when freshly installing cm7. This is definitely a safe method.
2. USB tethering not working + I can't see usb tethering option on status bar.
A: The status bar of cm7 doesn't has the option for selecting usb tethering (like stock rom). Instead the option is present in Settings/Wireless & Networks/Tethering & Portable hotspot/usb tethering. So, access the option from here. And make sure that your pc has necessary drivers (HTCDriver_2.0.7.17.exe is enough). No need of drivers for linux.
And another important thing is, You should disable USB DEBUGGING to access usb tethering. For doing that go to Settings/Applications/Development/ . The stock htc rom will disable usb debugging automatically when tethering is selected. But on cm7 presently u need to manually disable the debugging option (for usb tethering to work).
3. I can't access MOBILE INTERNET DATA
A: Check whether you have the correct access point or not. Go to Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names/ . If this is the issue make sure to manually add APN by clicking menu and select "New APN". The settings to be told by your service provider. Or if you have the previous working nandroid backups, then u can note the settings from them to be entered in CM7 apn. The APN will be generally configured automatically, and in case if they are not, you need to manually add apn.
4. I can't see the market application.
A: Google apps package is not included in CM7 rom. Make sure u have flashed the "universal google apps package for CM7" from the recovery. It is better to flash the google apps just after flashing the rom (without a reboot gap). The process of flashing google apps is same as the process of flashing a custom rom. And login to your gmail account to access the market.
--Google apps link: gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip
5. I can't add facebook / twitter account through settings.
A: You need to have those applications installed to add those accounts. Just after opening the market for first time, you will see a MARKET INSTALLER screen to "Choose the apps to install". This includes facebook, gmail, google goggles, google maps, google voice, twitter, youtube and some others. Either install them from this screen or install them later from market to integrate those accounts. And u can synchronize the facebook contacts on doing this.
6. Problem related to Wifi connection
A: Try to change the number of channels under Wifi Advanced settings/Regulatory domain/ .
7. I can't enable BLUETOOTH FTP
Maybe there is no option by default. But you can always enable it with third party apps like "Bluetooth file transfer"(by medieval software) .
8. I can't access root permissions
A: in 99% cases, the su binary will be there in the rom. Incase if you can't access the root permissions due to the absence of su binary, then flash this file from recovery just like flashing any other rom.
su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
9. Font issue of Google Maps
A: The newer version of google maps is somewhat laggy and has blurred fonts. Try the older version (gmm-android-google version:5.0.0) which has clear font and is more responsive.

Yep. Not everyone has all the issues. But depends. Thank u

Don't know, but check again ...
You are using recovery 3.x and it is correct one for cm7.
Download link for nightly version here http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=buzz
Then boot into custom recovery and select wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, factory reset . Then select "install zip from sdcard". Then "choose zip from sdcard". Then add the downloaded file. Takes around 5min to install. Then install the google apps package linked above. After that, reboot. Will solve i think.

Have had something similar, and in trying to restore it, I tought I almost broke my phone :-o it would only boot up in recovery, very painfull for a moment.
I solved it by flashing the nandroid backup immages manualy with the use of fastboot.
1. Open the nandroid backup folder on your computer and you can see a boot.img, data.img and system.img
2. Copy (only) those three in the same folder where fastboot.exe is stored.
3. Reboot phone into bootloader. Select fastboot and plug the phone in your computer.
4. Open the command line on your computer and browse to the folder where fastboot is. Type "fastboot devices" and hit enter. You should see your device listed now.
5. Type
"fastboot flash system system.img" and hit enter
"fastboot flash userdata data.img" and hit enter
"fastboot flash boot boot.img" and hit enter
Note that every time you time you hit enter, you can follow the proces in the bootloader itself.
6. Type "fastboot reboot" and hit enter
It should work. Make sure you have enough battery and wathever you do, do not interupt the flashing proces.
Good luck with it,
Erwin

I guess u have changed the folder name of backup folder (which will be normally in date and time). I have also once changed the folder name of that and it said md5 checksum error. But this can be flashed from fastboot flash method.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While restoring nandroid backup through fastboot process make sure u first delete the things (you can also do these from recovery menu). The commands will be
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase dalvik-cache
fastboot erase system
Then use the commands said above by erwinP (can also include cache.img). Keep your img files in the fastboot.exe folder ( = command prompt CD folder).
And recovery version shouldn't be giving issues related to nandroid restore AFAIK.

Go to this thread [REF] [22/06] [MAJOR UPDATE] The Complete Wildfire Index
and download the radio from section 4. Put the zip file on sdcard.
Then you should have clockworkmod 2.x recovery for flashing this. This is because amend scripting is not supported by recovery 3.x and +. So, if you are using CWM 3.x , then you can open rom manager and select "flash recovery" which flashes 2.5.0.7 recovery as a secondary thing on the memory card. Then if you select "Reboot to Recovery" from the rom manager itself, your phone reboots into 2.x recovery for that one time only [Let us call this as secondary recovery]. Now you can flash the Radio file you downloaded. Make sure your battery is enough so as not to interrupt the process. And once you are in 2.x recovery, then select "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from sdcard". Then add your zip file. (NOTE : Donot wipe the data for radio installations, not necessary)
note: For secondary recovery to work, the memory card should be mounted (Although u need it for every recovery flashing).
for me radio re-flashing dont work, or should i flash older 1? thank you.

urgent! stuck on splash!

hey all,
so i am incredibly new to this scene and just recieved my s4. i was preparing to flash a ROM onto my phone, and got it rooted and installed CWM.
I forgot to download the actual ROM zip file, and went into CWM via goo manager, wiped factory/data and cache. It was only AFTER i wiped everything that i realised i didnt download the ROM zip file, so i rebooted the phone and now it is stuck on the start-up splash screen where it displays "Samsung galaxy S4 GT-I9505" and will not continue :crying:
I was running on stock, and had only rooted the phone.
PLEASE i urgently need to fix this ASAP. Help!
Hi,
is there a Odin Version of the Rom you tried to flash? If yes, you could simply bring your device to download-mode and flash the Rom with Odin.
Alternatively search for a odin flashable Recovery and flash this first. Then you could boot to recovery and flash the zip of the Rom.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
i tried installing the liquid smooth rom, and from what i can see there is no odin version of the rom :\
Are you able to direct me to an Odin flashable recovery I can use?
im really stressing out about this
i'm in the process of downloading a stock firmware and will try to flash it on, but it's taking forever to download
I don't see why you can't boot again if you have only wiped the user data and cache, just press the home button for 10 seconds and see if it restarts with your reset stock firmware. Otherwise you can reboot into recovery and do the wipes again (not the option to install a new ROM), or put the ROM zip you want to flash on an SD card and then flash from the SD.
I hope this helps.

You should of made a backup with CWM. That's what it's used for also, besides flashing .zips. Always make a backup that you can restore and keep an extra copy on ur computer and/or a usb drive.
You have to use Odin to flash a stock firmware from Sammobile website. Make sure you download the correct firmware for your phone.
Dont worry, your phone isn't brick.
when i first did the wipe, i chose the option that i was going to install a new ROM. I'm now assuming that's where i made a mistake.
I did make a backup before i wiped everything onto my SD card, but now i can't even access that backup because it's saying there's nothing.
I've tried flashing a ROM onto it, but it says aborted.
Yes SORF ist right. It should boot into resetted stock firmware.
First try to copy the Rom to SD and then boot to recovery an try flashing it.
If booting to recovery doesn't work (but it should work if you just wiped user data and cache) you should try flashing new recovery with odin.
You could use Philz recovery for GT-I9505 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281367
Installation Instructions for installation with odin you find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39433857&postcount=4

yes i have tried that, and it says that install aborts.
Also when i re-wipe everything and then try to reboot, it says my device is missing root.
When i try to re-root, and the device reboots, it gets stuck on the intro screen again so the root doesn't actually complete installing
have you fixed it yet?
so im going to try a different ROM other than the liquid smoothe one i wanted (since it keeps saying aborted)
question: does it matter if i use ANY s4 ROM regardless of carrier? I'm from Australia and there is no specific carrier for my phone on xda
Why does it fails to install? Are there any more error messages?
Also you can try the point "Fix Permissions" under Advanced Options. This could help.

ok so i went ahead and found the cyanogenmod one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317040
and installed this and it works
though i dont like the look of this ROM lol, i prefer something a little more stock looking.
Any recommendations?
When reflashing a new ROM, what is the process i need to follow?
Cyanogenmod is themeable. So you could search for a stock like theme and install that.
If you like an overall more stock rom try scottyf79's recommendation.
If you want to flash a complete new Rom first copy zip onto sd, then boot into recovery, wipe data and cache, then falsh zip file.
Try the Omega Roms. They are close to stock.
Closest to stock are the prerooted DJembey ROMs (the CWM ones) or the Wanam Lite ROM (it's what I am on now)

personally -
i use Philz recovery
before install of a new rom - i use the "new rom" wipe option rather than the normal data, cache and dalvik wipe (it does this but adds in some extra steps)
then flash the rom of choice
if you get any other messages before reboot - select no
like i said before, if you want a stock looking Sami rom then try Golden Eye.
