Froyo 2.2 to 2.2.1 upgrade did not go through - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello all,
I have a Bell Samsung Galaxy S with the Froyo 2.2 upgrade. Today I when I connected my phone to the usb cable I noticed there was a firmware upgrade. So I proceeded with the upgrade. It was downloading and installing as usual then when it hit 100% a message popped up saying that the upgrade failed and that you need to do an emergency repair. So I panicked just a tad and clicked emergency repair. It did its thing, rebooted, and it's back up and running. I disconnected the usb after everything settled down and reconnected it to try again and I get that "This is the latest firmware." message and that the current firmware installed on my phone is PDA:JL2 / PHONE: JL2 / CSC:JL2 and latest firmware is PDA:JL2 / PHONE: JL2 / CSC:JL2.
What should I do now? Wait and see if and update comes for this firmware or what? I think the firmware it installed on my phone is different then what it was when I installed Froyo 2.2 back in November or so. If memory serves me correctly I think it was JK4. Anyways, what suggestions does anyone have regarding my issue.
Thanks

Dont worry JL2 is what replacer JK4 tgat was killing SD cards. JL2 id 2.2 not 2.2.1

OOh [turns red], ok, I might have not read what kind of firmware version was being installed. I thought it was 2.2.1 because I've read that it was recently released. That's my bad for not reading what it said. Thanks for the response, greatly appreciated.

2.1-update1

Does "2.1-update1" mean I have the recent OTA update?
ECLAIR.UVJI6 under "Build Number" means you have the latest version.
Vibrant came stock with 2.1-update1 and the latest update doesn't change that. Your build and baseband will both end in JI6
Hm, I had a firmware update available last night and I ran it but it "bricked" my phone. I spent all day learning how to get back to stock. I finally fixed my phone, but when I went back to run the update again I get "No firmware."
The same way you got back to stock can get you to the latest update. It's really easy, just make sure you are using Odin 1.3
Are you rooted right now?
No, since I got back to stock I haven't done anything besides redoing some of the old settings I had. Last time I rooted I used RyanZAs OCLF, but I had kind of decided being rooted (or something) was the reason the update broke my phone.
Just odin from my thread. Its the same as the OTA. Undo all your lagfixes and all BS. before trying to do it.
its all explained. Dont see a need for 30 threads on the same thing.

[Q] OTA Update ?

Couple of questions: Samsung Fascinate
I previously installed a DJ05 rom and then odin'en back to stock and then did a factory reset three times. So i assume i am back to stock at this point.
My phone specks after Odin flash and factory reset now say:
Firmware version 2.1 update 1
Baseband version DJ05
Kernel version 2.6.29
Build number DH12
1. Are these the original verizon software specs that the phone came out of the box with or are some of these specs left over from the DJ05 rom ( since the basband version still says DJ05)?
2. I have tried doing the OTA update to DL01 or DL09 whichever it is, and it sucessfully downloads the software but when it tries to install it in recovery i see there is a red message generated after it tries to update the modem which i cant read because the text is moving so fast and then the phone reboots and generates and error message saying,
Update failed or incomplete.
Reason : IP Previous Upgrade Failed.
Just wondering would any of the specs that i listed above be the cause of the update failure?
Thanks for any input.
You go back to the stock radio too? Thats my only guess

Solution
I got it figured out so I am posting this so hopefully it might help someone.
The past 24 hours i have been trying to update to the OTA DL09 update with out any success.
I had previously rooted and installed different ROM's on multiple occassions and gone back to stock on multiple occassions using ODIN and these recovery files that i had downloaded from the forums.
As a result of all of this ROM installation/Recovery/ROM installation/Recovery over the past couple of months my Baseband version was changed to DJ05 and my Build was changed to DH12 which i think was creating the problem with the OTA update installation to DL09.
Solution:
Do a fresh install using Odin and flash the DL01package3.tar.tar which can be found in the fascinate Deveolpement forum then to the OTA update on your phone. This worked for me and i now have the DL09 version running. Hope this helps someone.

problems when upgrading firmware

Hi guys
Just installed the new keies software and it said the froyo update was out for my handset (galaxy s) it downloads the update really slow (takes about 20 mins) and then then after it reaches 100% the phone disconnects from the PC and the andriod constuction logo appears on the phone, then shortly after i get an error message from kies telling me the upgrade didnt work and that an emergancy repair is needed..
Ive managed to recover the phone back to working order, but is there anyway i can get this update?
p.s phone was unlocked with the tool from these forums when we had it, if that makes a differance
There are many problems with kies while upgrading the firmware. When you get the error - did you read the error? At times it says something about a "rapi.dll" file missing or any other file, just download that file and it should work.
Best alternative is download the firmware from samfirmware (stock) and flash through odin, it hardly takes any time.
If you want your genuine network supplied firmware i would use the Kies Registry Patcher as this allows you to save the downloaded rom in case of problems .
Failing that as advised the stock rom but that is not what came with the phone its generic non network non branded .

Click to collapse
This is not a big deal, just click on emergency when it appears and kies will proceed, it might say that it will download the firmware again or might use the firmware that is already downloaded.
Can somebody point me on kernel for JVQ supporting Voodoo Color? Thanks.

[i9000m] Bell Vibrant Fail to Upgrade via Kies, Advice Needed!

Hi guys,
I have a recently purchased Bell Galaxy S Vibrant, running 2.2 JL2.
I installed Kies, updated it to the latest version, plug in my phone and a message says new firmware upgrade available.
So I proceed and everything goes fine until the download mode. I see a little yellow Android construction icon on my phone (looks like in download mode), but on my PC, it always says:
"Failed to Convert to Upgrade Mode".
I have searched the internet for a week and tried everything and anything I found...but still no luck.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Hi . I bet that the update is KC1 . You can find it here on xda and install it with odin if you can acces download mode ( VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER ).
Hi Omerx,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is KC1.
Regarding Odin...I've seen a few people mention it. Are there any downsides to using it? Would it be complicated to upgrade to gingerbread when it finally comes out if I use odin right now?
Also, I have to download the KC1 manually to use odin right?
Thanks.
no downsides: it is actually more transparent than kies on that you as suer set the parameters and identify the files you want to load
check around there are a couple of good threads posted on using odin and the basics of how to root and flash your own phone
kc1 is a good modem and a worthwhile update
hi guys,
I found some tutorial here on odin, but can't seem to find kc1 manual download for a bell vibrant, any suggestions?
Also, when I do it with odin, will it wipe everything I have on the phone (apps, settings, etc)?
Thanks.
nvm i got it to work in KIES finally!
Turns out it just doesn't work on Windows 7. I did the same process on an old XP machine and upgraded flawlessly.
Cheers.
the upgrade to KC1 worked fine on windows 7 64 bit here

Phone disconnects when I try to update.

I haven't updated my phone for quite a while, the last update I did was a camera update ages ago.
A few weeks ago I tried to do a firmware update and it failed, so I let it be, but now I really want to update it because it's bugging me.
I just updated Kies.
The current firmware version is: PDA:KE7 / PHONE:KE4 / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
It wants to update me to: :KF3 / :KE7 / KD1 (XEU)
I have no idea what that means, by the way.
I hit next, and yes, and choose not to backup, and tick that box, and then it loses the connection and tells me again 'OH HAI! You can update your phone!' and I'm stuck in a loop.
I'm on Windows 7 on a laptop, I'm in Australia, I bought my phone pretty early on, from the UK. Have not done (and see no reason to do) any rooting or other stuff like that.
Please help?
Make sure the Drivers are correctly installed and you don't have a MTP Error when you connect.
Regards.
How do I know if they're correctly installed or not?
How do know if I have an MTP error? Nothing has come to me saying 'I'm an MTP error!' do I have to go looking for it?
Just Uninstall them from CP and Reinstall them. MTP device error pops up when you connect your device, if you don't have one I guess you are OK with that part.
Regards.
Kies suck! Install stock 2.3.4 jvr ot doesn't requires root amd all that stuff!

Kies seems to have major problem with laptops .

Make sure your phone is fully charged - I mean 100%.
I've had Kies flake out on me like that (with no error message or anything) because the phone's battery was only at like 97%.
Very annoying
