how do i know if i am di01/dj05/dl09??????? - Fascinate General

got the phone a month or two ago. instantly rooted/installed CWM/voodoo without know what the hell i was doing but, everything went fine.
now i come back to these forums and everyones talking about these updates but i never got any update notification or anything.
this phone runs great. the only thing i have problem with is the GPS takes forever to connect and i have to try with multiple programs and have to keep walking/driving around.
so how do i know where i am at with this phone? how do i keep my phone up to date without screwing everything up?

Baseband is radio and build number is rom.
good day.

To check current version:
[Menu Key] - Settings - About Phone, then look for Baseband version (this is the modem - the last 4 digits) and Build Number (last 4)

why wasnt i notified that there were updates since i got the phone? should i update it? how can i update it?

If you are rooted and de-bloated you will not receive any notices of OTA upgrades. That's what the forums are for.

Yeah, sorry about that. We forgot to call you.

so then should i upgrade or what?

basically you have to put your phone back to stock. meaning you need to have all the vzw bloatware, and crap apps back on your phone.
read through the forums. There are several ways to get it done.

List of changes is over on Howard Forums. Looks like only a couple cities in VA and NC were changed, so if you don't plan on going there no real reason to update.

I beg to differ as the last PRL jacked my hero up, i had virtually no signal and it went into roam all the time. So far this one works great for me and im in the great lakes area.

You have to do the ##775# thing enter your msl code choose the prl and update it.
I am guessing on Darchs rom that is not an option tho since the ## codes do not work. At least you guys have the fastest rom right?
I believe my service has improved since I installed this PRL. It could be all in my head but last night I had full service which is not a normal thing for me...
I'll have to see if it was a fluke thing or if it actually improved my service.
(Upland, CA near LA)
Wow, updating this PRL completely hosed my phone. My data connection keeps dropping continuously now, and I am going into roaming. This is at work where I have always had 3-4 bars. I can't even run a speedtest, because my data will drop down to 1X every time I try. I tried updating again (thinking I got a bad flash) and the same thing is happening.
By the way, this is happening on a stock .6 Sprint Rom with only Sprint bloatware removed.
Edit: Nevermind. It turns out the tower right by my work was having problems all morning. I thought it was because of the PRL update I did last night right before I went to bed. Turns out my coworkers on Sprint were having the exact same issues. The tower problem was fixed this afternoon, and all is well now.
How can I pull my PRL off my phone without relying on others to post the or from a website?

lol I read somewhere that it was actually 616 as the mark of the beast... or something other than 666. But who knows... But yea, I want a backup cause I have been messing with PRL's and sometimes the built in feature to auto update doesn't update. It's easier just to do it myself.
Also, did you know on your phone that 666 also spells MOM? Back in the day of pagers and stuff when I was 14-15, I had a pager and when my mom would page me..She'd put 666 so that I would it was mom paging me...I don't think she ever realized she was putting 666 every time.

So it's Nov. and I still have no OTA update.

I got this phone in early Sept. Running it completely stock except using Launcher Pro Plus. Haven't rooted it because it's hardware locked. I read that all the customers will get the update by the end of October. Am I the only one that hasn't received their update officially over the air? Should I just wait a couple more days?
I just tried dialing *#*#8736364#*#* to start software update and just got connecting to DM something in notification bar. That went away after a couple mins. and tried start software update again. Got the same results.
I would wait a few days and if by Nov 1st you don't get the update then you can call your carrier and ask them to force it to your phone.
Or you could just do it manually, which honestly I suggest, because I just like many others , got a soft brick when I installed the update over the air.
You can use the software that Samsung put out, Mini Klies , to apply the update.
here's the link: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=560&AT_ID=341559
I encountered a strange issue updating through mini kies. All went well, and my phone was running sluggishly so I did a reset and my build number went back to'eclair' but my baseband stayed ji6. I odin'd back to stock and I might just wait for the ota

I guess I can wait a couple more days. I waited this long. I'm just afraid of anything negative happening. My vibrant is hardware locked, so I'm scared to do anything to it. If the official OTA update messes me up, can I do anything to fix it, or get a new phone or anything?

Honestly, if you want to take an hour or two to read up on it, it's really easy to get rid of the hardware lock by flashing a fix through Odin. Yeah, it's daunting at first, but I took the plunge and now I'm a ROM-flashing whore. You probably don't need to read that much, but I did just because of my cautious nature. There's a thread in the Development forum with the fix and instructions.
My take is that it's far more likely the OTA will mess you up than using Odin (use v1.3!). Once you remove the lock, it's *almost* impossible to brick this bad boy.

Heh, I came from an ancient Blackberry, if that makes you feel better.
But yeah, using Odin is stupid easy (but you need to be on Windows AFAIK). Just to give you a quick overview of what you'll need to do, you need to download
1) the Samsung phone drivers,
2) Odin 1.3,
3) the hardware lock fix, and
4) the Android SDK (just for adb, which is like a terminal program that you use to boot your phone into download or recovery mode; since a hardware locked phone can't get into download or recovery with the buttons, you use adb to force it to reboot into download or recovery).
Use adb to boot your Vibrant into download mode, drop the right file into Odin and go. There are actually good Youtube videos on using Odin too (can you tell I researched the crap out of this before risking it?).

I'm not closed to using the Mini Kies update, however the last time I updated something from Kies, (READ: JI6) it really ****ed things up, so much so that I'm still feeling the effects. Will the Mini Kies update prevent me future updates like Froyo, or will I me married to Kies and unofficial updates and flashes?

Verizon's admission of DL09...

I got a text saying DL09 had a bug where emergency calls couldn't be placed at the lock screen.
Anyways, what are they thinking? Aren't builds like this "secret"? Wouldn't telling everyone about a software version they don't have access to fuel some anger and get people calling in demanding the update?
Seems odd to me that they just sent out an official message for an unofficial software release...

Same here. Just kind of giggled a little at how long this issue has been known around here, and VZW is just getting around to alerting its customers.
For anyone curious, here is the sms the OP is referring to:
Free VZW Msg(s) - Use of your emergency call button on your Fascinate phone with software SCH-i500.DL09 may not work while the phone is locked. A software fix will be pushed to your device soon. Until available, disable pattern lock to ensure emergency calls can be placed. To check your software version press Applications > Settings > About phone and view Build number. Only version SCH-i500.DL09 is impacted by this issue. Versions SCH-i500.DI01 and SCH-i500.DH12 are functioning properly. To disable pattern lock press Applications > Settings > Location & Security and remove check from Require Pattern.

I'd imagine they'd take the route of just fixing the version in DL09, and releasing that. It'd take a lot less effort to do all the QA, plus it's not like they like us anyways, and much less likely to brick a lot of phones.
what the hell is everyone talking about "pushed by verizon"???
I've been checking for updates at the about page daily it seems, and it says no new updates. Do I need to manually download them from a verizon site or something?
"Pushed by Verizon" means Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware updates are "pushed" to your device by Verizon through the InnoPath ActiveCare application (MobileUpdateClient.apk).
If you are running stock, you will see a pop-up on your device that will ask you to push a button to begin downloading the update.
Keep checking for updates, it will be there soon. I got it two days ago.

If your screen is locked, and you have an unlock pattern set, you can still call 911 without unlocking the phone.
FCC dictates that all phones must be able to dial 911 at any time.

Haha of course. Well I only have about an hour left, I can upload it to a faster host if you still need it when you receive your phone back.

I'm pretty sure his phone will come back with the latest update on it anyway.. They did it to mine even when I asked them not to update it. They obviously didn't care and updated it anyway..

I got n950USQS5CRG9 on 9/5/2018 11am, after which my battery life SUCKS. I can use the phone and watch as percentage drops every few mins. Anyone else with this issue?

Try using the N950USQU5CRH6, you'll need to download and flash it yourself.. I'm using that and I get close to 1 hour for every 10% of battery life I'm also using package disabler pro to.
Where did you find CRH6 to download?

My Bat drained to 1% just before the update so I chalked up the poor Bat performance to me letting it drain to far. So thats kinda good news to me cause some way or another Ill fix that.
