Hello,
Please Help!! My stock (firmware but rooted) TMO Tab started locking up and then progressed into constant reboots, lockups and semi hard resets (I lose all screens and they are back to stock, email accounts are gone in stock client, but apps are still there and a lot of other information is still there like wifi, bluetooth setting/devices etc.) Also, sometimes, the device hangs on the Samsung logo on boot up and I have to power down holding the button for 10 seconds and then turn back on..
It is almost like I got a virus. I did a hard reset the other night, went to bed with about 80% battery and it was completely dead in the morning. Last night went to bed with 91% and it was dead in the AM. Something is wrong and draining my battery.
Tmo is not standing behind their product because I bought it without a contract and said Samsung would either refund me or send me a new one(which I knew it couldn't be right), and it wasn't. They said send it in for 10-14 days and they will send me a working model.
So given all the problems I am having which seem to be software related, which software should I install? Something I won't have problems with or will still allow me to accept future Tmo updates if needed or wanted.
Also I am upset over the email limit(one month unlike the VZ version etc) on the stock email client so a Euro version would be fine if it had that feature and I also am not using the Tmo network so a disabled 3G network for data is not a problem.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
Best,
BC
Please help me...
Update: My Tab was stuck on the Samsung logo for the longest time this morning(like 3 hours). I did the volume up/power button and wiped but still was stuck. It finally booted up but I am sure it is going to lock up and I will have to go through the same thing hoping to get it to boot up.
What could've caused it? What should I do while i have it on? Should I update to the Euro software and if so, which one? There are so many choices and not sure which one to do. Also, would I be able to go back to the stock tmobile s/w if I can return it for a replacement?
One thing that i noticed in the apps is a folder called error 1.0.0 but I cannot uninstall it. Is this normal and does anyone else have it? The other thing is that I still have the same memory available as when I had all my apps, email etc in it. Like it didn't really erase everything.
Please help and point me in the right direction. I have been scouring the net for 4 hours now and I don't know which way to go.
Thank you,
BC
Perhaps you poked around in the files system and accidently removed something? I would go to the Roto Stock firmware package thread, and flash that to repair a corrupt file system. Only a guess on my part, but it won't do any harm.
Well I suppose but I don't recall messing around with anything. I was hoping that while I had to change or repair my software, I should put the best on that there is to offer.
What software do you use or recommend?
Thanks for the reply! This is driving me crazy! I have had to turn off and back on at least 15 times today trying to get it to work amd habe wiped like 5 times.
Do you think I should just try and get a replacement from tmobile?
Thanks,
Brian
Woah, slow down partner. Make a Titanium Backup to the external sd card then remove it. Flash Rotohammers stock T Mobile firmware. Reroot with SuperOneCLick. Reinsert the external SD and reinstate your apps with Titanium. If things are still wonky after that then it's probably a hardware problem.
EDIT: I'd flash using Odin 1.7. It's just easier than Heimdall to me. Personal preference I suppose.

I did the backup and reinstalled after one of the wipes but it keeps locking up and not booting up. I haven't had it on 1 time successfully yet today and it past 10PM...
The main reason I would like a different firmware is because I want the full functionality of the email client like in some of the other tabs and android devices.
Tmobile and i don't know who else (I read ATT) crippled the email and it doesn't have the option to have all email on the device which is great for short trips without the laptop.
What about some of Roto's other firmwares? Like i said previously, I am not using Tmobiles data or service so it doesn't matter. I also read that the browser and overall was really smooth.
Is it ok to root with z4root? I have the app on my sd card and that is how i've done it before.
Thanks for your suggestions and i appreciate all feedback. I have to do something because this device has become a paperweight.
Thank you,
BC

hey dude you sound nervous as hell man, relax. as long as you can get your phone in to download mode. you will be ok. flash rotos tmobile stock firmware. if it works hooray! if not flash rotos jme 4
Still out of commission
I am not nervous, just annoyed as hell.
I flashed the stock tmobile firmware, booted it up and it crashed after about 10 minutes and I am back stuck on the samsung logo. I haven't been able to get it to boot up for about 5-6 days. I have wiped many times and no dice.
Should I wipe cache partition? Try the JME software?
Thanks for your help!

I have a Sprint tab.
And I have been using it normally.(meaning I only browse and play games with it)
After two days it runs out of battery, upon reboot it restored to when I have used it for like 30 minutes (downloaded a few apps and synced my gmail acc).
I didn't pay much attention to it until I restarted it again, guess what, it restored again, exactly like I have used for 30 minutes or so.
I thought there was something wrong with the setting so I used factory reset. However, it DIDN'T work, it still restores to the 30 minutes state, with my account synced and everything...
Lately I tried to flash it but it fails at the end.. with the msg "Complete(Write) operation failed."
Now I have problem booting the machine and it's verging on being a brick...can someone help out??
Need more info before anyone will be able to try and help you:
What ROM are you currently on?
What ROM are you trying to flash to?
Are you trying to flash with Odin or Hemidal?
How did you setup the flash (eg. re-partition or not etc)
What state is the Tab in now?

sry 4 not being clear...
To your questions:
I'm not sure what ROM because it keeps failing so I tried almost all ROMs, even GSM ones... I flashed with Odin with re-partition and now I just want to get it back to normal
I can use the tab right now but there're lots of errors coming up and if I try to reboot, it goes back to the 30 minutes state...
not sure that clarifies things or not...
In essence, I guess some of the contents are locked and can't be replaced by flashing
You should give this a try if you haven't already. A lot of progress has been made on the sprint ROM since you stated this thread.

I did and the problem persists.
I'm officially done with the tab and hope Samsung will repair it for me.
Sorry to dig up an old thread.
Long time lurker of the forums first time poster.
I bought the Sprint tab while over in the States for Christmas and it has been running fine since then.
But 2 weeks ago i started gettting multiple fc's and battery was draining very quickly.
Since then i have tried factory resets on multiple occasions and flashing quite a few different ROMS all to no avail.
Did you end up getting anywhere with this issue at all?
I live in Australia and it is going to be a PITA to get this fixed through warranty with Samsung.
My roommate just got a new Fascinate. I have been trying to get it to sync with Facebook but I get multiple errors. At first it can't login, when I finally get that to work it says it says sync is unavailable. I've seen solutions to this but nothing works or is recent.
I convinced him to get an Android over an IPhone and he is ready to return it. Any ideas?
Edit: He will not root. I am going to try a hard reset tomorrow, but this seems to be a problem with the Galaxy S devices from what I have read in the last few hours.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Rooting would not help this issue, unfortunately. As far as I know, there hasn't ever been a known fix for this issue. It typically resolves itself within a couple days. Keep in mind that you can always install the Facebook app, and it will sync fine. It just won't sync the Facebook contacts. Once the SNS sync works out its attitude issues, FB contact syncing will work too. Tell him to give it a little time.
So would a hard reset be worth it at all?
I've had mine for a month. The Feeds and updates widget started having issues last week, I think on the 27th. It had worked fine before that. Since then it has been on and off.
You can install the official Facebook app for Android. It looks like it works correctly.
Doubtful. This same problem happened to me after I got a warranty replacement Fascinate. I tried everything, but nothing worked, so I gave up for a while. A few days later, I tried again, and then it synced without any problem.
Btw, the official Samsung Froyo upgrade was just leaked this morning. I can't guarantee that it will fix this issue, but it's worth a shot, and there are other benefits as well. It appears that it's been packaged so that it's installable using the stock recovery, so you shouldn't need to root in order to install it. However, the phone will be rooted as part of the install. You can download it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937237
Just download that zip file to the phone's SD card, boot into recovery (hold power button + volume up + volume down from a powered off state) and flash it from there. Just FYI, if the concern with rooting is about warranty, we have methods of returning the phone to a 100% stock configuration in case you have to do a return or something, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about.
I would have to sneak it by him. I have flashed more roms than I can count on my N1 so I am definitely capable. What are the chances of bricking?
Edit: It looks like I can sneak it by after reading the thread fully. I need to do some research first. I am way too broke to brick a phone.
Thanks for your help btw.
It's almost impossible to brick this phone. As long as you can get into download mode and link it to the ODIN app on your PC, you can restore to full stock configuration. The best ODIN restore to use, should it come to that, is Adrynalyne's complete DI01 restore. It restores the ROM, kernel, radio, and recovery all to bone stock DI05 build. Just make sure that anything you flash from ODIN is done using the PDA button, NOT the Phone button. Using the Phone button will nuke the radio to an unrecoverable state.
I think I've figured it out now. Thanks for your help.
OK to start off i am not a noob at this, i have read though the forms and cant seem to find out why my phone will not come out of this bootloop. This started happening 2 days ago when I went to install a new rom on my phone. I powered down my phone, put it in recovery (Twrp), I wiped everything but internal storage. I then processed to flash the new rom. Everything went great. My phone rebooted and worked fine for the first 1 min, when i tried to pull down the notification bar the phone stuck off and went into a bootloop. I then tried to go back to my old rom and had the same problem (notification bar would not pull down). So i went to plan B and used the Back To Stock Form to restore the phone back to stock. The process went smooth as well not a problem at all. When the phone started up it allowed me to set up the voice navigation and name of the phone, as i went to update the prl and profile the phone shut off again, when it turned back on it starts normally and the goes to the lock screen where i am unable to make any iterations with the screen at all besides when it turns the blacklight off, as i try to use the knock on the LED light turns white but the screen will not turn back on (not even with the power button). Then it reboots to the lockscreen again and continues to do it until i manually force it off. I have tried everything from redownloading the firmware files, tried back to stock 3 times, hard factory reset, and reset in recovery mode. My phone is back to stock but i am unable to do anything with it unless i factory reset and go though the set up again, but even then i cant get a connection (even with wifi) without the phone shutting off and rebooting. Everytime the phone reboots the time reads 12:00am and switches to 12:01 really quick. I cant get a connection at ALL (I EVEN TRIED REMOVING THE SIMS AND AND PUT IT BACK IN AFTER BACK TO STOCK PROCESS.)
Im not sure if the application Dr.Web could possibly be making my phone do this. I did have it installed and did not remove before I tried to switch to the new rom. The anti-theft part was active.
SOMEONE PLEASE BE MY HERO AND HELP........I REALLY WOULD HATE TO DEAL WITH LG ON THIS ISSUE IF I CAN FIX IT MYSELF
THANKS TO EVEYONE THAT SUPPORTS AN ANSWER

lol sorry i wanted to be as pacific as possible. I did make a backup before flashing the rom. when i tried to go back to it i had the same problem with it rebooting after a few mins. i tried flashing furnace 0.0.8 kernel after installing a fresh rom but same problem. I am back on factory recovery atm is there anyway to flash twrp back to the phone without it being rooted? i tried to get the computer to communicate with the phone when it turns on but it wont seem to connect unless im in download mode or recovery.

I had the same problem except with me, i was just trying to change fonts manually. It went into a bootloop and i stressed dover it for hours until finally i found out that you have to use the lg mobile support tool (you can find it in one of these threads on the lg g2) and revert it back to stock. That fixed it perfectly fine. Its a lengthy process but simple. If that doesn't work you have to do what the lg mobile support tool does semi-manually with another program lg flash tool which is longer but just as simple if you follow the directions given in the thread to the letter.

Could it cause the phone to reboot like it is? I am back on stock firmware again,. they have coders there, I'm sure if they really want to know they can figure it out. If you send it in to get it fix out of your own pockets (meaning you pay them) then i'm sure they dont care, but if you want a replacement due to warranty then it may be a different story.

I eneded up restoreing my phone back to stock and took it into my local sprint store it cost ne 75 dollars to replace the phone not under warranty (if u have sprint protection its free) i told them i took and ota update and it started rebooting itself. If you do get a replacement make sure u back up your efs files to a safe place on your phone. Theses files can become corrupted by flashing roms and kernals.

Not under warranty? Doesn't it have a 1 year manufacturer warranty? The G2 wasn't released on Sprint until November last year so it should have been covered.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk
Yes its still under manufacturer warranty but when i made a repair order with lg it said it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get my phone back and if they found out it was due to being rooted and flashing roms im sure lg would of charged a arm a leg to repair it. With sprint i got a new phone in 2 days or ordering it.
I have been running CM (currently CM11) on my SGS4 since I bought it from Sprint in summer 2013. However, Sprint changed their international partners pretty seriously in the past 2 years, so I *really* need a PRL update for international travel. Normally the easiest way to do this is to reboot to stock or TriForce, run the "update PRL" and "update Profile" options from in TriForce, and go on with my life.
But I encrypt my phone. So I had to boot into TWRP, wipe and format *everything* and make sure the phone came up unencrypted in CM. All is OK.
So I reboot, flash TriForce 5.4 custom with stock (not KK) kernel. Flash works fine, I reboot... and am prompted to decrypt the device before I can do anything. None of the decryption passwords I've used in the past (I checked my password safe) are working. When I flash back to CM, it boots fine, and the settings says that the device is not encrypted.
I downloaded and tried TriForce 5.2 and 4.0, both are giving the same problem. I have used TriForce in the past on this phone, so it SHOULD be fine....?
Someone in #twrp said that the location of the encryption key changed from Android 4.4 to 5.0. So my only remaining thought now is that there was also a change from 4.3 to 4.4, and the encryption key for 4.3 didn't get removed in the wipe, and since the partition is NOT encrypted, the decryption, even if I have the right key, fails, so I can't get into the phone. Hope that makes sense.
Anyone have any guess better, or, if I'm right, know what I need to move/edit to fix this?
Followup: IRC #sgs4 suggested a full install of stock via odin, so I'll be trying that on Saturday, after I can get a new stock rom downloaded overnight. if there are thoughts before then, I'd love 'em.

Thanks for the update, I was actually going to suggest stock ODIN instead of TriForce, but you are saying it did not work ? It's good to know for the future. I was initially going to encrypt my phone a long time ago, but I had concerns about decryption when switching ROMs.
My question is why the encryption was not removed after the format ? I've used TWRP to pretty much hose out everything inside the phone, so it's possible the encryption location is located somewhere else. I came across this article:
http://money.cnn.com/2015/05/21/technology/resell-android-phone/
So I guess even after a complete wipe everything ISN'T removed. Maybe your encryption was also stuck as well.................................... What new phone are you getting ?...................................

I was never able to get the stock odin download. The whole problem came up because I was going overseas... I got around it by just buying a local SIM rather than using the Sprint roaming (again, I was doing all this just to update the PRL. new GSM SIM = no PRL update needed). On the way home less than a week later, I cracked the screen so bad the LCD and backlight wouldn't even go on.
I replaced it with a Nexus 6. A bit big, but it doesn't suffer Samsung software awfulness, so I didn't have to flash it with CM to make it usable.
So, I have gotten myself in a bit of a pickle I however think I can get out of it by sideloading using EXT. SD, Im not sure what to flash to solve the dillemma however. So this is the situation. I have a (had) a rooted Galaxy s4 (sgh-i337 ucufnc1) with 4.4.2 android. It had safestrap installed and back ups of everything else in sd card and other locations just in case. The phone was acting buggy, so I formatted the phone with safestrap, the problem persisted, ill get into the issue a bit further down. So I booted back into safestrap, and did a complete wipe, however my sd card must've bumped out, because it didnt delete any media files or so it said, and then after the wipe it crashed. and refuses to boot into safestrap or even past the splash logo. I can get into download mode, but usb debugging isnt on anymore since i wiped it, I can get into the other mode as well ( cant for the life of me remember the name of it atm although i use it frequently) with some luck. I also happen to have all .md5 files from a backup i did about 4 months ago in tact, I cannot for the life of me get them to convert properly to apply them to the phone without safestrap however, if anyone has any insight to this please let me know also.
I can/will list any other information I have if anyone needs it, and if anyone can help it would safe a life!
The reason i reformatted it to begin with, was because media would stall, and when i plugged in the audio jack it'd freeze the entire app using it, then the whole phone would freeze. I believe it was due to lucky patcher but im unsure. The issue began when I altered the auto update file, and even after i rectified it, it persisted. At this time i have a phone soft bricked because it didnt delete all the media files and I assume something bugged onto the kernel image but Im not sure. If I can simply try to restore it to stock kernel then im fine with that.

UPDATE: I resolved the issue, by rooting, safestrapping, ripping the image files, from another galaxy s4 with alike descriptions. then i managed to side load it, then it booted properly, i then reformatted it completely back to 100% factory everything. Now my original problem persists, and i cant help feel that google services is causing it. (examnples of issues" proccess.gapps has stopped. anotrher process error code. phone calls can be made, but not recieved as it seems the server is too busy to n otice it, massive battery drain, audio takes several seconds to play, while video continues to play fine, audiojack is mostly unresponsive, phone calls that are made cannot recieve or send audio during call session, phone may freeze at unlock screen, or any time during operation, may even reboot from process overloading" now keep in mind. i removed every system file and app that the natural reformat will allow. so nothing applied by the user is on the phone, other than natural factory applications. Im digging a bit into the phone as i can but its a slow process whenit starts freezing. if anyone has any idea of what can be causing this, or how to fix this please inform me lol.

The best solution must be installing the stock firmware via odin. Since you are on NC1 , You can installed the stock NB1.
Here is guide explaining you using odin, installing NB1, root with towel root, updated NC1, install the safestrap. The guide was not specifically written for that but you can find those steps in the guide.
I will attempt to do this, since nothing since has work. I am about to get a new logic board for the system in the next 2 weeks. Towel root DOES typically work on this system, however the last time I attmpted it it failed to work outright. Im not sure what has changed with the device, but i believe reflashing stock is the best method. The phone now, will boot up, then skip the lock screen and go straight to the home screen, which is black with no pull down bar, or with no signal and there is no way to rectify it. Even if there were, it boots back down and launches back up and becomes locked at the ATT logo.
After a fair bit of messing with it, and recovery mode it will sometimes boot normally where it tells me that processes has failed and askes me to cancel the ''app''. This is the best option to update the phone and attempt root, but getting it here is so difficult because it reboots itself and the mode is rare to acquire. This problem either is due to the kernel, or the rom i believe. I also am to believe the powercell may have some issue, as i replaced the battery a few weeks back and it worked fine for about 1 week.
Booting into safemode doesnt work either as it skips over the lock screen straight to the home screen. Outsidce of replacing the logic board, or attempting another flash im at the end of the short rope i was already on in terms of options.

UPDATE: I found therein two methods to flashback to stock. I did so, then proceeded to attempt to flash from nb1 to nj4. Progress stopped there when it flung an error 7 at me. So this means either something in my phone is corrupted or the file i downloaded from the above mentioned forum is corrupted. I also attempted flashfire, but seen as it STILL crashes at random due to process errors thats almost impossible to attempt.
