Outlook on android - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi guys,
I have got the HD2 and everyone is telling me to go to android, however i do use outlook at work to sync my contacts and calander from exchange server, and can also only be done via wireless on laptop.
If i go to android can i sync contacts and calander to my phone??
because i use this alot i dont want to have hassel trying to do it, and is basically the last thing before i make my mind up to change or not?
Cheers

Exchange sync is there on Android but it differs slightly between a sense and non-sense build.
Either way they all lack sync features that you get with Windows Mobile.
Touchdown is the best feature wise for exchange activesync but the interface is horrible and it doesn't really integrate with the built in mail / calendar / contacts apps.
If you just want to sync Contacts and Calendar, and arent too fussed about private appointments, categories etc... then built in android exchange sync will be fine for you.

any alternative to outlook?

i was just wondering if theres any alternative to outlook since alot of us in the family have wm phones , whenever i sync i either lose all my contacts or get all their contacts too, its really frustrating guys haha
flexmail is one
you can use gmail java applet
also why dont you consider not syncing contacts at all . just use the one in pim backup 2.8
You could try hotmail/Livemail. That would sync your email as well as your contacts to your hotmail account and would also give you push syncing so that you would never have to actually plug your phone in.. Then you manually could sync your calender, todo, and tasks to Outlook if you so desired.

Sync contacts from home PC but calandar and mail from work exchange server?

Hi
I was just wondering if it possible to sync my contacts from my home PC using Outlook and my calandar and mail from my works Outlook exchange server on the HD2.
I am a current iPhone user and am interested in moving over to the HD2 as it looks like an awsome phone. I can do the above on the iPhone but can't find any information as to wheather this is possible on the HD2. Searched the forums but can't find an answer!
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
I don't see why this wouldn't be possible.
You can select to only link (via Exchange) your calendar and mail, I've done this. Then you just need to configure Activesync or Mobile Device Center to sync your contacts with Outlook.
Yes you can, a friend of mine has it set up that way. As Nighthawk said, it's just a case of configuring the sync right (you just have to tick boxes, so nothing challenging there!)
Dont know whether it helps, but I use an excellant app called Chronobis which allows me to pull (one way) my calendar from my work exchange server. It will also handle email & contacts.
I'm using this as I dont want to mix my home outlook contacts & calendar which I sync with Active Sync with my work stuff.
So I sync normally with Activesync and then download my work calendar which merges with my HD2 calendar... when I do an activesync... both work and home calendars are then together in Outlook.
I think in your situation you will be fine as you are not trying to "merge" contacts and calendars from 2 places at the same time.
Brilliant, thanks for your replies guys.
Yes this can be done, i do this with two exchange servers, one from my work and the other my gmail account.
Basically i sync my calendar and contacts with both and only sync my email from work.
I did this on my polaris and now on my hd2. Initially i wasn't too sure if the the hd2 would do this natively so i went with the regitry hack i used on my polaris. Perhaps someone could confirm that this can be done on the hd2 without the registry hack.
Here is the link to what i did with my polaris (and now my hd2).

Best way to migrate data from WM6.5 to Froyo

Hi all.
With the hopeful impending arrival of my DHD, I am keen to know the best way to migrate my contacts, calendar etc to Froyo.
I know I can sync my activesync to sync with Google, but is that the best way?
I want to maintain as much as I can if possible....
oggsync does fairly good to sync contacts and calendar, but some features missing unless you use the paid version.
another alternative (free as long as you have Outlook in your PC):
activesync to desktop outlook -> export to csv from desktop outlook -> use Import feature in the gmail website -> let the data sync from google account to handset.
grateful if somebody could give an advice re tasks. the Task feature of gmail doesn't support recurrent task, and hence absolutely not my choice. Astrid looks good enough on Android, but seems i must manually re-enter all outstanding tasks.
The best way is
On WM6.x use Exchange Server from Google using the google account that you are going to use on Android, and then in Android use that google email account and everything will transfer to android. Simple as that...
thanks for your advice.
you mean this Google Sync service?

EDIT: trying it now. it's handy. thanks!
What I did, was export all my contacts and appointments, and then imported them into my Gmail account. Then synced when I was within Android on my HD2.
Works very well.
cool thread this
i have my contacts backed up on WMDC, but my phone is now dead is there any way to get them from WMDC or microsoft outlook to the DHD

[Q] How do you sync Omnia 7 Calendar with Microsoft Office Calendar (2010)?

How do you sync the Omnia 7 Calendar with your Microsoft Office Calendar (2010)?
Pretty sure it's not possible directly.
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/how-to-sync-windows-phone-7-with-outlook
Now I understand why and what to do: I have to get used to having/maintaining everything "in the cloud", which actually makes perfect sense.
I'm now maintaining all my contacts, calendar appointments, podcasts, pictures, and videos - in the cloud (my Windows Live Account).
Don't get too used to it if you don't want to. I'm sure that there will soon be sync apps available, including a SyncML client from Funambol. I'm not a fan of their stuff, but SyncML is a standard protocol (with much criticism).
The interesting thing is:-
I can create/update/edit appointments on my WP7 phone, however, these will not sync with my Windows Live Account.
If I, however, create/update/edit appointments in the calendar on my Windows Live Account, these will indeed be synced with my WP7 phone, BUT overwriting any and all appointments already created on the phone on the same dates(!), IF indeed I've turned on "Windows Live" under Calendar > Calendars on my WP7 phone.
As far as I know, I have no way of specifying whether the WP7 calendar should have priority over the Windows Live Account calendar, or vice-versa, thereby controlling the direction of the syncronization.
All this - in terms of "cloud computing" - makes perfect sense... nevertheless, it's not very practical, as I cannot create/update/edit appointments on my WP7 phone and expect the changes to appear in my Windows Live Account calendar.
As I use the Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector to get access to and maintain all my contacts AND appointments "in the cloud" in my Windows Live Account through Microsoft Outlook 2010, - the way I understand it - I have to access my Windows Live Account calendar through the WP7 browser and create/update/edit appointments there (if/when I'm on the move and do not have access to a computer with online access) in order for these to be properly transfered/updated on my WP7 phone.
Not exactly intuitive, is it?
I know it sounds strange, but i'm using gmail as cloud and it syncs perfectly between the calendar on wp7 and the calendar on gmail and the calendar on outlook on my desktop. For syncing between calendar on gmail and outlook i'm using gsyncit which is free if you're using it only to sync calendar.
Apparently it's better to use google cloud than microsoft cloud...
Hopefully, someone at Microsoft will hear of this, and take the appropriate measures... (embarrassing...)

I don't really know anyone with your calendar problem! All WP7 phones i have played with sync fine with live calendar in both ways...
Errr... And you've played with Samsung Omnia 7 as well? If yes, then please explain how you've synced your calendar.

Hi guys!
I just got my Omnia 7 yesterday and set my Live account with the phone up. It syncs perfectly both ways instantly, calendar, email and contacts. The only gripe that I have is that I dont get a notification if I receive a new email in a folder. The live tile displays only the main inbox
I bit the bullet and paid for online exchange hosting. I find the syncing is much faster then live and it removes most limitations I had like
Outlook Photos would upload to live
Company name could not be any length.
I know it's couple only but it did bug me and I hated having lot's ofl folders with the same information (contacts x 2 calandar x 2)

[Q] Exchange Sync - Contacts & Calendar

I am running the GPE 5.0.1 ROM by @Danvdh and I'm having a problem syncing to my new work email account. I haven't had exchange on this phone before so I don't know if its a problem, or just not possible. In my searches it looks like I might need a few different apps, but that's why I here asking.
I have installed "Bluemail" and added my MS Exchange account info. Email syncs fine, but I'm trying to get my contacts (google) to sync with my work email, along with my calendar. The rom doesn't have a calendar installed by default so I installed "Business Calendar", but I'm not married to it at all, and am more than willing to switch to get it to sync. I also tried "Nine" email app but it doesn't seem to be syncing contacts TO Exchange, (maybe just from it?) And I don't know where its trying to sync the calendar to, but it doesn't appear to be working either. I hope this is all possible because on my old work phone (iPhone) everything would sync up easily and I really don't want to go to an iPhone.
