Just wanted to say that I'm sick and tired of waiting on froyo, everyone has already gotten it or is in the process of getting it. Even the mytouch3g. Anyone who knows any valuable information on this please post and let us know. And by valuable info I mean when we will be getting it

Says who? The Europe upgrades are getting pushed back till next month, and our will come well after that.
Samsung tweeted that froyo updates will roll out in November and all phones should have it by end of November.

This is true. Its reported on engadget today that the initial froyo updates where pulled due to "not awesomeness" but that Samsung promised increased performance along with all the other good **** that is froyo

Our update will come from Verizon, not Samsung, so ignore any and all release dates in press releases from Samsung that do not mention Verizon or the Fascinate by name.

The update may come from Verizon, but I'm guessing that they give Samsung a list of what they want the update to include (bloatware, settings, etc.) and Samsung is the one responsible for getting the update out with Verizon's specs. While I'd agree that you can't believe it until it's mentioned specifically, if they say all carriers and actually mean it, then it's better than nothing.
So after much thought I have decided to at least keep this phone until LTE. It has probably the most truly capable hardware ever put n a phone. The CPU/ Gpu is great. The camera/ camcorder is second only to iPhone. Screen is great. But Samsung lack of support for their products is discouraging at the least. The phone came out after phones with froyo(D2 ) had already launched. I love this phone. See why people hate Samsung
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
If we are rooted, will the update take without doing something special?
Sent from my Fascinate
more than likely not. As I am sure you have removed the bloatware. In all I would say the easiest thing would be to Odin back to stock with Odin(when the update comes). That would ne the easiest.

Okay people, please stop coming to the Vibrant threads and doing nothing but bash the Vibrant, Samsung and T-Mobile and all that usual crap. The Vibrant is still one the most powerful devices and really only has ONe flaw that cannot be easily fixed with a new ROM. And that flaw is the GPS. It is not even as bad as people are making it out to be either, I use it constantly and each new kernal only improves it.
Yes, the Vibrant does not have an official 2.2 from T-mobile, but this is more T-mobile's fault then anything. ATT Galaxy S devices already have 2.2.
I know, the Vibrant does not have a FFC, but who actually uses it and if so, what for? Yes, it does have big omission of a flash for the camera. I don't mind this sacrifice since I have the fastest phone of anyone I know.
Okay, sorry for the rant.
I have no issues with Samsung devices and they are imho, a really good electronics manufacturer and I have not seen one bad device from them. I would love to get my hands on the new Vib4g. In fact, if carriers had better upgrade policies for phones, I would probably get it, or at least wait for the dual-core version coming in march.
Captivate has no 2.2. No US galaxy S devices have it. Get a clue before trying to reprimand, IMO.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I don't think Samsung cares what you guys think. They've probably got until June the dual cores start dropping in force; in the meantime the will likely sell a lot of these as they will branded hspa+ 21, the fastest phone in T-Mo's lineup.

I am sooo sorry that i made the mistake and thought that the ATT had 2.2. I just remember reading about a 2.2 update through Keis for it.
Man people can be such asses about the most inane things.
All I was trying to do is express my annoyance, in my rant, about reading nothing but bashing of the Vib in the Vib forums. If you don't like it, that is fine, if you have moved on, that is fine. No reason to hold a grudge and look for any reason possible to ***** and make yourself seem superior because you have "found the light".
i will be calling the loyalty department...that's all....
Hello,
Just wanted your thoughts on the Official Gingerbread for Vibrant.
Do you think it will ever come?
Do you even care?
Any feedback is appreciated .
Cm7 is gingerbread so its already out lol
Need help with cm7? Pm me I can try to help
I don't think about it because I don't care. Gingerbread for the Vibrant 3G is the last thing on Samsungs list.
i have cm7 so i could care less! i will be getting the hercules in a few months anyway
The Gingerbread ROMS are already pretty smooth and nice so I no longer care about the stock one which they seem that don't even WANT to update.
Whatev's when I get the chance I will be buying the SGSII.
...When it doesn't cost a lung for me lol
It's not going to happen.
And neither will me buying another Samsung mobile device, ever.
Ditto.

Probably not coming since the Galaxy S 4G is essentially the successor to the original Vibrant. It would be a terrible sales decision for T-Mobile to support the older model, especially when the two are almost identical except for 4G, an FFC, and the lack of internal storage on the 4G.
I hate u guys.
I guess my best bet is to hunt craigslist for a nexus s.

I wouldn't mind waiting, I've played around with the 4g vibrant, and I like the 3g model better. The ffc is no big deal with me.
But I have a gut feeling that it will be early next year before we get a 2.3 from tmobile.

Sorry, but current dual cores devices are useless and equally as fast as the Nexus S since ICS is yet to be released to optimize Android for multicore devices. You may as well get the one phone guaranteed to get ICS which will increase the Nexus's speed as well. The G2X looks like its not getting ICS and the Sensation would be bogged down by Sense again. Galaxy S2, maybe.
No offense because the 2.3 Roms out right now are smooth. But they straight murder the battery life. Why have a mobile device if you a charge every 8 hours.

No, I held out hope because Samsung promised and promised and promised, and there was a BIG media hullabaloo about the lack of timeliness on the 2.2 update.
Samsung has had exactly ONE press release saying they're putting 2.3 on "all" Galaxy S phones and nobody in the media is talking about a lack of update. Basically, it's as if no-one cares, Samsung included. Only a few people on forums are making any fuss about it, and everybody knows forums in general fly fairly low under the radar.
I still say we're not going to see it, and even if Samsung delivers it before the end of the year, it's far too little far too late. I have no desire to reward their failures and apathy with more purchases.
edit: Oh, and you can thank the ****ing SGS 4G for the lack of an update. IT'S getting 2.3 leaks left and ****ing right, and the rumor is from devs in the know that there isn't even 2.3 source code in existence for the Vibrant.

You are right the good thing about dual cores is one core is incharge of one process and other core incharge of another process. This would probably be best for me as I am constantly studying in school, and switch between apps really fast and single core just cant take from browser to xxxx app to xxxx app and back to browser without it getting stuck!?
If you got like 15 apps and just use it for ROMS and GPS and shiny fast things then by all means stick with the Galaxy S.

Its coming, samsung/sprint will not just drop all the $$ they did, and then not put out a relase
This Epic post as brought to you via Tapatalk
We will get it. The new Conquer has it and it is basically an Epic. I think they want to resolve the reboot issue that has plagued new Gingerbread releases from the start. Then they can wash their hands of the Epic and not worry about any more maintenance releases.

I don't blame Sammy one bit, I blame Sprint.
I could be totally wrong, but my personal opinion is if the Epic had been on say Verizon this update would have been long since finished.
Just my IMO.
I want an Epic2 so bad right now, I think the last rdf pushed me over the line I'm affraid to say...
I wish the epic2 had a keyboard. I'm probably going to hold off on getting any new phones until the next good android with a slide out keyboard. in the meantime I really wish they would put out source to our Dev's who seem to have a much better handle on debugging and let us get our cyanogen on. Hell with a good cyanogen 7 rom I probably wouldnt get a new phone for another 2-3 years.
Agreed, I mean I have to face the facts, Ill have this phone for at least 1 more year, and I'm sure longer, since Ill probably wait till the next "thing" comes out after I'm eligable for an upgrade.

I agree here. The International version has reportedly received timely updates. I don't know if they were referring to 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 or an incremental bug fix upgrade but supposedly they don't have this issue. I can't resist anymore. I went to the Sprint store and the Manager is going to hold one for me until I get there on launch day. Maybe having 2 active phones is excessive but I can't wait until my upgrade comes. Also, I am not ready to get rid of my Epic. I still love this phone.

Verizon??? The company with the last Galaxy S phone to get updated? The single carrier not to have any SIGN of the gingerbread update ever coming out for their Galaxy S phone? The carrier that believes that the Droid Charge is a suitable replacement for THE GS2? Sprint is probably the best carrier to bet on for upgrades to non "Droid" phones...

That's right. I would venture 90+% of people have NO CLUE what Gingerbread is, nor what version of Android they're currently running. They see an update come through, install it, and go about their business. A select few of them may notice something different with the looks, but that's about it. They may notice something looks different, but only because one of their apps (I'm thinking Eclair vs. Froyo messaging) looks a bit different. If that's the case, they probably assume the update was just for that app...
If Samsung is throwing around Gingerbread all over the Epic (as well as most of the US galaxy s series) have not gotten, maybe it is the carriers holding everything up. All of the updated GBs have been through Kies and for some reasn Sprint don't want the Epic on Kies.
