HD2 WP7 - Which Radio are you using? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hello all, just flashed WP7 and am loving the netflix and the sexy UI!
I would just like some feedback as to what radioversion some of you are using with this phone. I was using a "compatible" radio with an old android nand rom I was using, however I'm thinking that probably it's sub par for a WP7 setup.
I kinda have some complaints that callers can hear things quite loudly that normally go on in the backround "ruffling potato chip bags" sounds like super static noise lol.
Any insight is appreciated, thanks!

Bump... I would like to know as well!

2.15.50.14 but I have a problem with this version, high battery drainage in 2G network! Is somebody have same problem with this version?

Hi,
I had the high Battery drain as well with 2.15 Radio.
So tested 2.08 and 2.10.50.19_2, both seemes better because I could run on day with a battery load.
cheers

I am using 2.12.50. I get around 11 hours on my battery - with pretty reasonable usage.

Just flashed to 2.14.50, now I'm good.

Definitely INSANE battery drain with the phone just sitting, lost 50% power in about 5 hours of the phone just sitting there, with all stuff on manual sync too DEF giving 2.14 a go.

Hi, I am a complete noob so forgive my ignorance.
I installed Radio 2.15.50.14, then MAGDLR113 and finally WP7 8107.
Wow - I have fell back in love with my old HD2! Only problem now is a)reception and b) battery life.
Having read a few forums/threads I think i need to downgrade my radio to 2.14 but I can't find how to do this with MAGDLR installed - the old custom RUU's don't seem to work.
I am probably missing something really obvious but please help.
Thanks

Does those Radio works with "T mobile" HD2 USA Version??

Best Android Radio? And what is a data.img?

I hear some people say Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2 causes problems and to use Leo_RADIO_2.11.50.26** but then I see it a lot of peoples sigs they are all using 2.10.50.26 which I cant find a download link to.
Also I see on shubCRAFT something about a 1gb data.img and I have no idea what that is can anyone tell me?
Sorry if these are silly questions Im just really excited to get my Hd2 and want it to run Android perfect!
Thanks,
Ethan
EDIT: Oops I read "radio" as "rom", fixed my reply.
Radios, I don't think they're that important (as in, it doesn't really matter which one you have), but I just downloaded the new 2.14 which is Android friendly, they say it improves reception greatly. If it's true, then it probably is the best at the moment.
As for your other question about data.img, I would like to know too
i updated to 2.14.50.04 today and my reception didn't really get any better. i hoped it would because the reception in the area i live is very very poor. idoors i get 1-2 bars and nothing has changed appart from a higher battery drain. i was at about 5-6mA in standby now i can add around 2-4mA to it.
trying since an hour or something the new 2.15.xx radio, get about 3-5, sometimes 5-8 mA, i think its quite good
Can you give me a download link to 2.14 anyone?

Search for "HD2 radio rom thread"
Anyway. 2.14 radio works nicely. Getting 6mA standby with data on. Sync on adds 1-4 mA.

Exactly the same here w/ 2.12.50.02_2
The data.img is basically all the info uve fed android, like ur gmail account, any apps you install, messages, etc. The data.img is read from and written to, thus, everytime u reboot ur phone and go back to android, u don't start all over again. 1gb is larger than the original 512mb allowing u to install more apps. Other than that, I know nothing more about the data.img
I'm not pro so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
@ itsallsubliminal
No it's right
I just wanted to add that the data.img is like your internal storage in WM. It simulates the NAND for android. This is the problem with the battery drain issues, because this img is stored on your SD and the SD uses a little more battery than the internal memory. (maybe 1% per 2 hours in standby or something like that )
And I would recommend you the 2.14. radio, as it improved my signal quality. My data throughput is now about 5x higher than with the 2.12 radio and my standby is on the same level as before (3-9mA)

I'm European, more precisely from Switzerland. And my signal improved dramatically. Maybe it depends on your provider or the signal coverage?
hi! Where should I put the image file? I already have a fine tuned configuration of my Android OS. If I put the image now, will I have to start all over again? THNX

Radio 2.15.50

anybody tried Radio 2.15.50 with andriod?
and if so, what are your opinions?
i see that i get much better connections and smoother performance but horrible battery life...
and for those who tried several Radio versions, which one you think is the best?
I am running 2.15.50.14 and the device bricks within a few seconds of running HARET - I just get static horizontal white lines that look like they are made up of small text. I have to remove battery to get running again.
It just wont work.
Can I revert the radio back to one that will allow me to run Android?
I simply cannot stand Winmo any more - the HD2 is a beautiful device that is crippled by third rate software, I wish I had purchased an Android phone, I still have 12 months to run on my contract. ( Help!
well i got another problem using this Radio (i don't know if it's due to the Radio version or the android build itself); Haret and CLRCAD stopped working and give me an error message
and yup you can downgrade your Radio, just make sure you have HSPL
lol totally agree here, my next phone is definitely gonna be andoidish but you can't deny that our beloved HD2s are still up to their names
I got my HD2 back from HTC recently after a touchscreen replacement. They had flashed 2.15.50.14 to the phone. I stuck my SD card back in, booted android with no problems whatsoever. Still using the same radio and whatever stock rom they had flashed to it 3 weeks later and haven't used WM once

cool that's a relief so this Radio is all good to go
Using 2.15.50 radio with android and it's great, battery life is excellent and no problems for me.
what exactly is you issue you can get android to run? i run 2.15.50 and have no issues what so ever.
i jus switch to 2.12 1 hour ago. but sleep of death for android still occur. using shubcraft 2.0
Ive been using 2.15.50 for a little while now and have observed that it will charge up to the full 100% in android where it was only charging up to the high 90's before. I have had no trouble running either android or ubuntu with this radio on my tmous HD2
me 2 seems everything works fine with this radio
I've been using the 2.15 radio for awhile now. As mentioned earlier the charging actually reaches a full 100%, battery life seems to be more efficient now, and I've had little to no connection drops as compared to before. You may be having problems if you're not using HSPL3.

I am running with no drops, G-Sensor fix, etc. and the latest kernel with no problems, but on 2.12.
I could never get good battery from 2.15...even now.
Jon
I've been on 2.15 for a while now, never had any problem with it. Battery life is great, charges to 100% (with proper calibration I can get over 2 days moderate use out of my phone as well) very few data drops except when I switch to a roaming network, call quality is excellent as well.
Running 2.15.50.14 (The latest official T-Mobile update) with no modifications. Works fine with FroyoStone Sense V3.2. Terrible battery life.
On a side note - This update helped the battery life when running in Windows Mobile mode, I get significantly more time out of the device than with the ROM it came with originally.
I'm running 2.15.50, I'm having lots of issues.Random crashing when using GPS or 3G connection.Only 1 of 6 Android builds I have tried work without crashing or not loading plus robot voice on calls. Will try to load a custom ROM and downgrade the radio version.
No problems so far. Usimg it for a long time.
Everything works as it should!

WP7 Battery Drainage Vs. Radio Rom

WP7 Battery Drainage Vs. Radio Rom:
After searching in Forums, I Found that most of us (WP7_HD2 Owners ) have a great issue with battery drainage.
I also found that some of us tested radio roms and found that it affects the drainage directly but not the same way the same version did on WM6.5.x
SO I wanted to create this forum to brain storm and try several radios and check what is the best for our Beloved HD2
I will post and edit the best radios based on your reviews so more you post results more we will get clearer image of what's optimum:
So Based on what we experience ; Radios are sorted Best on top:
1- Radio 2.12.50.02_2
2- Radio 2.14.50.04
3- Radio 2.15.50.14
I know it depends on your network provider also, but At the end it's kind of trial and error forum, we get help from each other: there is nothing certain 100 %.
Rest will follow...

Maybe radio 2.12.xx.xx should be tested also. It is a 576mb enabled radio also.
i've tried 3 radios so far
2.12 is the best, and 2.14 and 2.15 are very similar
i am testing 2.10 now
im using htc hd2 t8585, not tmous
i am using the 2.15,,works normally,, not bad,,but neither remarkable.
Managed to pull 30 hours until recharge with moderate usage on 2.12.50.02-2 radio. UK Virgin mobile' s best radio I might say when it comes to batery drainage.
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using Board Express
I have radio as 2.14. Would like to know whether the radio 2.12 is better ?
Wrong forum, this is is development not Q&A/General
Doesn't location also have to be taken into account? I understood that a radio that gives great performance in the UK could be terrible elsewhere and vice versa.
I'm not suggesting that this thread isn't a decent idea, just that users should also post their country of use.
I tried WP7 with radio version 2.15.50.14, the battery lasts two days, vs windows mobile 6.5, 5 days.
But my opinion is that the problem is a bug that allows the use of gprs/3g link cause some sort of continuous, although the 3G connection is switched off.
Im using Radio 2.12.50.02_2 simply because I seem to get a better signal with it. Ive not noticed much difference in the battery life than when I was using Radio 2.15.50.4
Just added it here because it discuss the topics mainly accessible through development, and want most of us to reach it....
I have switched from radio 2.15 to 2.14. and I see improvement in battery life
Sorry if this is a bit off topic but it's just something I experienced that might be found useful....or I may have a freaky battery
Could the problem with the battery drainage could be related to the battery state when WP7 was installed?
I installed it on my device when the battery was half charged and I was only getting 1/2 a days use before it died. When recharged under WP7 it would take 1hr and only last another 1/2 day...but.........I installed android and am now dual booting WP7 and Android.
I ran the battery out using Android and recharged it under Android to 100% charge. Since doing this WP7 takes 2 hrs to charge instead of 1hr but the battery lasts all day with between 5%-15% remaining after 12 hours.
Maybe WP7 checks the battery state on install and assumes its fully charged when the device (HD2) is first powered on and incorrectly calculates the maximum charge!?
Just a thought.

I believe you are right. For the first time did y HD2 chage under wp7 and i noticed that the battery did not last half a day. I usually charge my batteries through an external phone battery charger (have 3 batterie which i rotate).
I am trying 2.14 in London Uk. So far better than 2.15. Will try 2.12. I remember there was one radio in particular that was FAB for battery life but so so for reception. I will try to find out which because for me battery life is more important. Could have have been evem 2.12. Will have to search the other forums.

You might be on to something here! I charged my phone to full capacity while downloading and waiting to install WP7 and my battery had been good. I even believed that it holds better than with android builds on NAND or SD. Lets investigate this, please.

Ok I managed to find the radio that gave me excellent battery life under Windows 6.5 rom = Radio 2075027_2. I reasearched my old posts in another forum.
I have installed it fine and will test out over the next couple of days and report back.

Remember, just a warning for everyone.
If you use a 2.07, you want be able to boot into Android (if you dual boot using MAGLDR SD card).
Android needs 2.08 and up.
i tested 2.10
it is a little bit inferior than 2.12 =) but it is still great

[Q] quick question

im thinking of switching to WP7. is it fully stable?
what works/what doesnt?
Not 100% Stable. But I will tell you, it is faster than Android without it being overclocked of such sort, and the battery performance is exceptionally well.
My phone hasn't been charged for about 13 hours. I've used it from medium/alot of usage today. I'm just waiting for it to die out since I'm training to battery these next 3 days so I can get the most out of it. The interface of wp7 looks very nice and simple to me. Some people like it some people don't. Their are a few problems with camera and the pinch to zoom on the internet explorer, but this will be patched up soon. So far I love it. Also, if you do flash wp7, I would suggest radio 2.14.
The 2.12 radio has better battery performance a tad bit, but it will always switch from edge/3g/hsdpa. 2.14 gives me a very stable connection with great battery performance, and 2.15 is a battery hog. I hope I covered enough for ya

[Q] the best wp7 rom

what is the best wp 7.5 rom work withot problems on hd2 ?
i followed the advice in this thread, which was guided for TMOUS users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327106
i installed Yuki v2 ROM with the 2.15 radio. Things have been going pretty smooth.
thanks dear
but my hd2 not t-mobile
Mine isnt either, but the WP7 rom works, Kinda awesomely infact, the only huge issue I get is the freaking battery life (Both 2.12 and 2.15 radios.)
Hey i just followed that guide and it was great. My battery life seems fine, but i have to put it in usb mode to charge. I still need to test it more though.
p.s.
Not tmobile either. I'm Australian Telstra

Trail and error i guess, jus try different ROM and radios (SD cards too)
to far i tried Yuki V2 (smooth, and fast even data on 3g was fast) but battery drain is a killer, even with 2.12 radio
Pdaimatejam v2 - smooth, everything works, a lil issue with pinch and zoom (a little fiddley) bt batterylife is good, 10-16 hours on heavy use (2hours facebook, 200+txts, and whatsapp) [radio 2.12]
and HD20 v1.23b1 [radio 2.15] - smooth, everything works, battery drain over 3g on standby is amazing (over night only 5% battery drain) bt drains rapidly when on whatsapp and internet explorer.
When I use Windows (I prefer Android..) I use this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356833
Works fine, battery drain is high but that is the only issue.
Good luck!
Back to the future is good at multitouch and smooth but battery drain is so bad. For me, I need to last my battery using time much longer. 1 vote for 7740 v3 of Pdaimatejam.
Here is it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356833
Version 3 still isn't uploaded, I'm using V3. Everything is smooth and fast as Back to future ROM, in addition, you'll get a better battery drainage(my battery isn't new but it run out in almost a day).
Sincerely
PhongPT
