Hi guys/girls
Just rooted and installed CM7 however the build has the simtool kit in it which puts a icon in my top bar that drives me nuts (the icon has no info in the drop down) I tried to force stop and uninstall however does not give an option for that, can anyone tell me how to remove it via sdk
Cheers
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/Stk.apk
Can i do that by the terminal emulator on the phone ? (at work at the moment and dont have the sdk installed).
thanks for your help as well
Im learning but its taking a little time to get my head around things lol

I jumped the gun installed the original and the latest 2.1 leaks, so I am not rooted. I just recently learned how to use the ADB push feature in the tools of the Android SDK to install a custom boot animation and I'm stoked at how awesome it works.
I was wondering what all you can use the ADB push feature for on a NON-rooted Eris. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks devs for all your hard work!
Adding custom boot images.
Thanks jcase! I was seriously hoping that there was there would be other things that I could use it for. Oh well, guess I'll just wait until the Official OTA 2.1 is released, then wait until you genius devs crack it open and get it rooted. Thanks again!
You can make a script to quickly install apps in mass.
#!/bin/sh
echo "Installing apps..."
./adb install apps/app1.apk
echo "app1 Installed."
./adb install apps/app2.apk
echo "app2 Installed."
./adb install apps/app3.apk
echo "app3 Installed."
./adb install apps/app4.apk
echo "app4 Installed."
./adb install apps/app5.apk
echo "app5 Installed."
echo "done"

I know this is an old thread, but I just got a replacement eris and i'm trying to avoid signing into the market before I root (for a completely clean install, probably doesn't matter, I'm just funny like that), in which case, I want to install 1-click root before I do anything. So, if someone could point me in the right direction to do an adb install on an un-rooted eris, that would be great.

No need to bypass activation, skip account setup, Settings->Applications->Unknown sources, Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging.
Then this plus this:
Code:
adb install erisone010.apk
You are making unnecessary work for yourself - if you want a Nandroid backup of the factory ROM in a near virginal state, root the phone with OneClick (so that a custom recovery gets installed) - NOT including insallation of the engtools (or rootme, whatever it is called), and then perform a factory reset afterwards. (That will clear accounts & account data from the phone, and you can then boot to the recovery to make a backup of the virginal ROM).

That's basically what I ended up doing (got impatient and didn't wait for a reply), except I did sign in to the market and picked up 1-click that way. Thanks for your reply though, to my question asked in an attempt to feed my OCD tendencies.

as far as getting rid of t-mobile stuff, you can remove any of it you dont like using ADB or a file browser with root access (I use root explorer but its a paid app)
all the system apps are located under system/app
you can just delete what you dont like
or you can flash a new rom, most have alot of it removed already.
(exept for the stock roms and the leaked stock roms of course.)
I've just tried to unistall the applications through system/app but still I can see them in my appplication list, there are a lot of applications in my mobile that I've never used or even dont know how it works!!
can you explain that to me more,
Thanx

**You must be rooted for most of these methods to work** (I'm not sure about ADB, I've never tryed it unrooted)
These are apps that you cant delete using normal methods or the file manager that comes with the vibrant.
you'll need either ADB (Android Debug Bridge) or a file manager with root access.
ADB is definitly the more technical of the two options, but its also free.
the other option is much easier, you might try Android Mate, I've never used it but it is free on the market.
I personaly use root explorer but its not free.
You will have to be rooted for this method to work.
just open the file manager and browse to the system/app folder and delete what you need to. (in root explorer make sure you have enables read/write access on the top right corner)
the last option is also a bit technical but not too bad.
download a terminal emulator from the market.
open terminal emulator
type:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm -r /system/app/[appname].apk
you must know the apk name for that method.
and remove both the .apk file and the .odex file (if there is one)
(Or find someone that does know it)
heres a list of some that can be removed without breaking anything written by s15274n (you can view his guide here:
AccountAndSync.apk/odex -> The app in the drawer, not the settings.
AddToHome.apk/odex
AudioPostcard.apk/odex
Avatar.apk/odex -> The app that launches Avatar in the video player.
BuddiesNow.apk/odex
Dlna.apk/odex [Allshare]
FlashPlugin.apk/odex
GoGo.apk/odex
Infoalarm.apk/odex [Daily Briefing]
KindleStub.apk/odex
Layer-samsung.apk/odex
MediaHub.apk/odex
Memo.apk/odex
Mini Diary.apk/odex
MobiTV.apk/odex
MyAccountStub_4-5-10.apk/odex
Myfiles.apk/odex
Sims3_Samsung_Embed_Launcher.apk/odex
slackerradio.apk/odex
Swype-Tips.apk/odex
Telenav.apk/odex
thinkdroid.apk/odex [ThinkFree Office]
vvm-signed.apk/odex -> T-Mobile Visual Voicemail [can be re-downloaded from the market. for some reason that version is the preferred one.]
VoiceRecorder.apk/odex
VoceDialer.apk/odex
Writeandgo.apk/odex
TouchwizWidgets:
Day.apk/odex
DualClock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Calenderclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Feedandupdate.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_stockclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Weatherclock.apk/odex
I noticed in the title that you would like Froyo?
if so you could just flash a froyo rom and they usualy have most of the t-mobile stuff removed already.
you might try this one AXURA
thats developed by an active member of xda which is nice.
Or this one: Macnut R13
that one is built from i9000 source.
theres a few others as well you can find them in the vibrant android development section
as I stated before read this (written by s15274n )
if your not rooted yet and need help getting there, its a great guide that has pretty much anything you could want to know getting started with this phone.
Thanx!
Thank you very much for the help, you gave me good options to think about..
I have a good question: Is there a way that I can use instead of installing a ROM, to "format" my mobile and install a total new version of Android, maybe something like the new Nexus S Gingerbread and benefit from the Google pure experience instead of waiting for Samsung to develop the Froyo for my mobile?
Again, Thanx a million!
Saif,
How would I go about installing busybox? I am trying to run Droid Overclock by jrummy16 but its saying busybox isn't installed.
i tried using 'busybox installer' from the marketplace but upon using it, it says that it can't locate busybox.
whats the best way about installing busybox?
I'm having the same problem. Any help?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I installed it via Titanium Backup. Once installed, hit the "problems" button to install it.
I used the "busybox" app from the market to install the most recent busybox.
i made sure and did:
Code:
adb remount
before trying to install busybox via the busybox installer and it worked just fine.
Worked for me, thanks.

Yea I had no problem using the busybox installer. It may have said it didn't work after the install, but it did. Had to get it going to use OpenVPN.
It was also a newer version than my TB had.

This is a problem with all of the current versions of busybox. The one from the market and the one that Titanium Backup installs do not work on the Xoom. I compiled up a busybox from the source last night and it works with TB. The problem seems to be with the 'find' and probably the 'cp' commands. I talked with Stephen and he is going to release a new busybox installer to the market that should fix the problem.

I downloaded a version last night(? early this morning? it's all starting to blend together ) that has a fix for this. You get a "Green" install this time.
But FWIW, the previous version did at least seem to work, even if the installer fails.

We tried so many versions last night I'm not sure which one he eventually put up. But I know he is working on a new release. If the one in the market doesn't help TB, then the next one should.
Wait- do I understand that someone's gotten TB working; not just "running", but actually backing up more than just those 5 (essentially-useless) databases?
I really want TB working, 'cause I wanna experiment with something in the RUU (well, "SBF" for us) and do not want to have to manually reload everything once I change my OEM lock status.
I think there was just an update like a day ago that addressed compatibility issues with newer devices, or rather, the xoom.

My fiance has been using SPB Mobile Shell on her HD2 running AmeriCanAndroid (SD card). SPB crashed and we had to reset her phone. When it started up, nothing was accessible because SPB kept force closing (i.e., the launcher was inaccessible so we could not access anything on her phone). So I simply used adb:
adb uninstall com.spb.shell3d
Immediately the default home launcher loaded and everything was fine.
I'm having this problem. Can you explain to a n00b like me on how to do this fix? What is adb?
Thanks!
OK, so I've googled, downloaded and installed Android SDK Manager. A black box comes up, but I can't type your command in it. Is there a trick I'm missing?

Sorry I missed your reply. Were you able to get it working?
To get Google Apps.
What about you?
Cuz I could.
Also don't need root for google apps.
I rooted for the simple fact that I could do it. I don't own anything Android that isn't rooted.
for google apps and android market here
I have a few questions...
You don't have to be rooted to install apps right? All I do is check mark authroize apps in settings and then just put the apk on my kindle and install? Or do I have to email it to my kindle email? Do all apps from android market work?
If you don't need root access for 3rd party apps why cant google apps be installed? I guess I'm confused on why anyone should root a kindle right now? Since its so new? What are the advantages of a rooted kindle?
Last question, is there any way to save that Amazon prime thing if you do root? I have that fee month trial right now.

U only have to root the kindle to install the market..if u don't root it and install it it will force close and not work properly..that's why u have to root..but after u root u can unroot and the market will work corrrectly..
That's my experience as well.

For the couple extra apps I could get from the Google Market, and to put a real launcher on it. I do not like the home screen on the Fire. The carousel is just a big mess of "stuff". I do like all the app screens, I just think the home is a fail.
Don't freak out amazon, I've been buying more stuff then ever. Even with out your front end.
o For Google Apps
o For Android Market
o For Screen Shot abilities (for training)
o AdFree
o Change stock keyboard
o Titanium Backup
Root file managers so I can tinker with it. My wife's unit is till stock. I got mine after she complained I had taken it over.
I rooted for custom launcher, market, and google apps.
FYI you can keep using the amazon apps (video, mp3, etc..) while rooted if you just rename the "su" binary to something else. I renamed mine to "super" and can still watch amazon vod.
Because I could, mostly. But also for the Android Market and Titanium Backup, plus screenshots. I also use an app for temp unrooting since I'm a Prime member. Getting my 3 year old into cartoons from when I was his age..

Thanks! For apps like google Maps, is there anyway to get location services working? like figuring out your location thru wifi like the ipod touch.
*edit* actually that seems to have broken my root. Superuser no longers gives permission to Root Explorer so I can't even change it back to su. How do I fix this?

You'll have to use adb and do it via command line.
Code:
$ adb -d shell
$ super
# /system/xbin/busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
# mv /system/bin/super /system/bin/su
# exit
$ exit
$ adb -d reboot
I guess the Superuser app looks for the "su" binary as well? Maybe there is a way to tell it you've renamed "su"... a setting called path to su or some such thing
Thanks. Do you also know how to the location thingy working on google maps?

Sorry, I don't know what's wrong with maps on the Kindle. It should use info about the AP you are connected to and be able to give an approximate location if the AP mac is in Google's DB.
Kindle Fire has no GPS, so locating yourself is not possible. I use mapquest for pinpointing my location and it works great. Mapquest uses OpenStreatMap for finding your location, but searching for directions is done only through wifi.
