I was wondering if anyone had rerooted their fascinate using a mac since the recent OTA. I keep finding directions for windows but I haven't found anything for mac and apparently z4root doesn't work with DL09. Secondly, I'm assuming its going to be difficult to install CWM recovery since the DL09 update screwed up USB mounting. Does anyone have a solution to either of these problems? Thanks
You can use the same method as before with Mac and ADB to reroot... As far as CWM goes, I'm not sure on that one. I just used a bootcamp Windows partition to handle that

yep, I re-rooted using my mac. same exact process as the first time. nothing has changed.
Which method did you use the first time? Do you have a link?
I have the link at my home computer, but it's from android central's forums. there's a whole tutorial from a mod over there named Corey Streeter. if you can't find it, i'll post the link when I get home from work tonight.

Hello all..! Love xda..! Love the forums. This is my first post, but long time reader and user of xda. One Question. Is anyone going or have rooted the samsung intercept. there seems to be no stable recovery yet from what i read. apperantly wiping cache or something bricks the intercept.

i want to root my brothers virgin mobile intercept but cant really find a great how to... nor can i find any 2.2 roms.
i met a guy who works at best buy who was actually rooted, he had a live wallpaper running. but he was no help and wanted to charge my brother 100$ for root.
i have rooted well over 70 different phones since my g1 days, and i have always done it for free. appreantly karma didnt have my back that day.
after politely telling the gentleman to fk off, i began researching. hence why i am so confused, so many people advise to use z4, super one click and many others advise and warn against it.
i myself am glad to see this forum here. hopefully we can get some concrete info stickied soon.

I rooted my girlfriend's Intercept successfully. The only thing she's used though is wifi tethering with Barnacle Legacy, but that obviously means it's been rooted successfully. Here's the text from the SDX post I used (I think it's for Windows 7 only):
1. Download and install SWUpgrade for the moment from here (http://www6.sprint.com/downloads/samsung/executables/SamsungMoment_Update.exe),
then install LouZiffer's patch (https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B1g2...ThjOTktODUzYTQwNWJhMGU3&export=download&hl=en).
2. Download the recovery file (http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/inxane/intercept/recoveryv14.tar)
and put it in C:\Program Files (Program Files (x86) if you are on 64 bit)\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary.
DELETE THE FILE ALREADY IN THERE OR YOU MAY PERMA-BRICK YOUR INTERCEPT
3. Start your Intercept in Download Mode (Vol Dn + Camera + End) and plug it into the computer. Install the drivers...
4. Open SWUpgrade and walk through the steps.
5. Make the following folders on the SD card:
/sdx/updates
/sdx/zip
/sdx/backup
6. Put
inxane's kernel file: http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/inxane/intercept/inxane0381intercept.zip
in /sdx/zip folder created above
7. Now enter recovery mode (vol dn, talk, end) and select the install zip from sd card option.
8. Reboot and you are good to go.
I strongly advise against any ROM found on sdx. I've tried them all and none of them are even fully working. The one currently on my fiancees phone cannot turn off as holding the power button freezes the phone until the battery is pulled. I have not got SU to work with anything except root explorer and su keeps telling me a newer version is available when it's clearly not. The custom recovery can't even wipe without bricking the phone...
We need some experienced developers to take a crack at this. All the developers currently working on the Intercept are making progress and are getting better and better but right now all rooting is experimental and dangerous. I mean for gods sake, a wipe will brick your phone? WTF?

I have had my intercept rooted and running basic ROM 1.7 since it became available it did take all day to get it to work right but after boot up and using the ROM manager premium to "fix permissions" i haven't had any issues as of yet

What do you mean it will brick after a wipe???? I have inxanes recovery but havent used it except to flash the kernal. Any way to go back to stock??? Its my wifes phone i cant have it bricked

As I understand, the recovery is a Samsung Moment recovery ported just to be able to flash ROMs. People have reported both - a wipe will brick, and a wipe will not brick. I'm going to -assume- that it depends on either sprint or vm. It is stated all over SDX-Developers that a wipe will brick.
The way I "wipe" is go into file browser on the custom recovery, select data, hit the MENU button, and hit delete. Same can be done for system, but not needed as the ROMs you flash will delete the /system partition anyways.

Yeah, our recovery was ported from the moment. Its not able to do half the things that it should be able to do. You could brick your phone by doing a wipe, and many functions might report an error when you attempt them.
ok i have been having ALOT of trouble...i apreciate anyone in advance if they can help me...I DO NOT RUN WINDOWS UNLESS I HAVE TO, i have a dual boot of windows vista and linux mint 10. i am trying to root my virgin mobile samsung intercept. every way i have tried seems like it just wont work. i logged into my windows vista and read up on the super one click root. when i went to DL the drivers it came back with a message that said my processor is incompatible..i just dont understand how when i have a intel core 2 duo...i am wanting to avoid using windows so if anyone can help with linux mint 10 then PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
Well I did a factory restore of my phone and it did brick my phone but i restored the backup and the phone works like a champ again. Rooted with squealjoy. The only problem I have faced so far is the music skipping in the mp3 payer but I can live with that for free tethering.

Hello Forum!
I successfully rooted my phone about two weeks ago, just to have 'live wallpaper' on it. (It works but it's a little slow.)
The problem that I've noticed that I'm having now is the delay time of sound. For instance, when I'm playing a video or even a game, the sound is late and off cue. Is this an issue from rooting the phone, or is it deriving from somewhere else?
It's not a BIG problem, but it's getting very annoying and would like it resolved soon. Any advice would be helpful.

Z4root works for me on VM Intercept 2.1, well enough to let me run Barnacle for tethering, which is all I need root for at the moment. VM Intercepts get 2.2 in about a month, should make it easier to root and/or tether.
How can i root my sprint intercept, it has froyo and i want custom recovery.
Also what is the fastest rom????
Long story short, I was running Axura2.04, and I discovered I wasn't getting voice mail notification so I went to restore the phone to a backup rom I had made of the stock version using Clockwork Premium, and after it finished installing it got stuck on the Vibrant/Samsung screen.
I was unable to boot to recovery, and I now have the phone connected to my computer via USB and I got it into what appears to be download mode (there's a yellow triangle with a droid shoveling dirt) and I'm stuck.
I am on a mac and do not have access to a PC. Any advice on how to proceed?
(ps i am relatively new to all of this, I've only been at it for a a few weeks)

Sounds like you need a kernel flash for a 2.1 Rom... try using odin if you can.

You're not screwed, but only providing you can either gain access to Windows somehow (for an Odin3 reflash) or are comfortable with using a command line tool similar to Odin3 that is available for the Mac, Heimdall.. Heimdall has no GUI..

Isn't there a PC emulater that you can get on your Mac? If you can get that then get Odin and the right files and flash back to stock. Do a search around here for Odin.

I worked with Thegreat520 and we got the phone up and running again using the methods outlined in the stickie above. I tried using Heimdall, but that's too far beyond me, I can't code to save my life, took college courses for it and even that couldn't save me.
That said we did find out that using a virtual machine on a mac doesn't work, it has something to do with how the computer recognizes the device, and there is another thread here somewhere in which someone else ran into the same problem.
Thanks for not flaming me guys, the ultimate mistake happened because I was restoring a backup of a ROM and didn't clear the cache or the user data before hand. Lesson learned the hardway.
Okay first of all, let me start by saying this is my first post and I AM a noob, so be patient.
Okay, my problem is that I can't root my Sprint Samsung Intercept. I've tried SuperOneClick, Z4Root, Universal Androot, and some other one. NOTHING has worked. The SuperOneClick somewhat worked, it installed SuperUser but when I downloaded apps that require a root, they said my device isn't rooted.
I'm with Sprint and running 2.2.1.
Pease help because this is driving me crazy!!
i dont know how this stuff works either but my brother has that phone. it could be your usb isn't reading. or rather, your computer isn't recognizing the device. google samsung intercept usb and you'll see a lot of issues. this may not be your problem but its better to tell you just in case. so far for his cell phone, because he wants to tether it to his computer, so far nothing works. not downloading the right drivers. loading without debugging. mounting the sd card. thats one big solution that hasn't worked. i have high hopes for this other fix, to load samsung pc studio. New_PC_Studio_1.4.0.IL2_4.exe is the file. you can google and find it.

intercept doesnt have many custom roms but there is tons of mods you can apply to the stock rom

did you patch SWUpgrade? delete everything in the binary folder except the file you were trying to flash?
ive never had a problem with it. it even saved me from quite a few softbricks in the short time ive had my intercept.
I did everything the videos and forums said to do. When I did that I got a different kernal but I couldn't get any service, my phone would restart every 2-5 minutes, and it would randomly vibrate. Until I got another one. I finally got SuperOneClick to get passed the "waiting for device" stage and I supposedy rooted my phone, when I tried to install apps that required root access they said my device is not rooted.

My friend has the samsung intercept and I was going to help him root it. I have tried Z4root and gingerbreak but they didn't work.

S.D.X. is a website S.D.X. developers They have several guides to rooting.I rooted mine with a programed called sw updater with my pc but now ther are easier ways.

You're going to need to run one (or several) of the root exploits (until they 'take') and then edit some files manually via adb to make it permanent. See the SDX Developers website as previously noted.

I did it with SWUpgrade Tool, but...
1) Even though I could connect and swap files between my phone and my computer over USB, SWUpgrade for some reason would not recognize my USB connection on Windows XP SP 3. This page along with the Samsung driver link on the same page saved my ass...

2) With the SWUpgrade you have to be really quick and unplug the USB and take out the battery when he says to, or you will not get the custom recovery installed. It took me about 4 tries before I was able to get the custom recovery in my phone.
I previously did the rageagainstthecage method, and while it worked, at one point I stupidly took out the battery when it froze before I had put in a custom recovery and done a backup and I very nearly bricked my phone. It would not bootup after that no matter what. Fortunately I was able to boot into the Virgin Mobile recovery and start from scratch wiping and resetting my phone, but I had to re-download all my apps from the Market all over again which fortunately the Market kept a record of.
I used the first link for the kernel and I am very happy. Just take it slow, be careful, and follow the instructions exactly.

Ok guys thanks for the advice however I have been having one problem:
I cannot seem to get the drivers installed successfully on my computer. It is windows vista x86. I have tried the easytether drivers and the samsung drivers but for some reason they don't work. Any ideas?
okay well i rooted my phone a while ago with motochopper and yesterday i tried to download the cyanogenmod from the rom manager and it downloaded but once it rebooted it wen into a boot loop of the cyanogenmod logo so i tried to to restore from the factory clockworkmod backup and it wont restore back. im on a mac so what can i do i got the phone back to the original samsung software but its now stuck on the ATT logo. also it will load all the way up to a new setup but then the setting stop working and i cant go any further. can anyone lead me in the right direction
In the future, don't use rom manager for anything other than getting a custom recovery on your phone. I've seen more people cause problems on their phone using it. Search for heimdal. It is similar to odin for putting stock recoveries on your phone using a Mac. I've never used it so can't be of much additional help.

Ate you sure the rom you got from rom manager was for your specific device?
i mean it was the latest CM 10.2 idk if that had anyting to do with it

The thing I don't like about rom manager is it's too easy to grab a Rom that is not for your phone. I'm guessing that's what you did and you've messed up the partitions on it. I hate to say it, but I think jtag is your option at this point. Look up mobiltechvideos.com.
There are also some pit files floating around here, but they scare me and can do more harm than good.

I use a Mac (a couple of them, actually) and found that heimdal can be made to work, but it just is not as user friendly as Odin. (Btw, you should not need a custom driver to use Heimdal -its a mac and should see your phone w/o driver issues!)
Maybe it's just my experience, but sometimes when you have everything set up correctly, Heimdal still seems to choke, or just not complete the task (or see the tar file that you want to use!). The newer versions seem better, but I have not found it particularly easy to use. [Also, are you using a current version of Heimdal? Heimdal front end package? Here is a Heimdal link in case you want to check: http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/ . Please check your file -the stock image or rom image that you want to load and make sure it's the right one and also that its in a form Heimdal can use. . .
Conversely, Odin seems to work great -especially (or even) the older versions. This is why I think you could save yourself tons of time and open your options up significantly if you can either: (1) use bootcamp and boot into a windows OS, or (2) use Parallels/VM Ware Fusion and use windows in a virtual window.
Bootcamp is 100% windows running on your mac and is rock-solid, while the VM machine approach also is mature and pretty good, if occasionally temperamental...:good:
If you can do this, then you can use Odin and work to restore you phone with all the tools that most folks here have and use to good effect.
Agree with the advice on being real careful on using Rom Manager, it works, but also seems to have a knack for surprising you with a bad outcome when least expected.

I have read so many posts of people using Rom Manager/Goo Manager and soft bricking their devices with it by just trying to install custom recoveries...I wouldn't touch either.
There are tools available to automatically install custom recoveries...seems much more stable and safe, especially for rookies.
