1. 32 GB
2. The vast majority of the nightlies have been stable. The RC is obviously going to be stable. Nandroid your CM6. If you don't like CM7 or find issues with it, restore CM6. Simple.
also when gong to a bigger sd card, can i just copy and paste all the files and have them work as before or is there something more i have to do?
thanks for any comments!
Again, will anymore of the 6.1.1 features like all the custom color pretences , eventually be put into the aria cm7 nightlys? Or are we now limited to this theme Chooser?
Feels like I'm hitting my self in the foot switching to cm7 without all of the 6.1.1 awesomeness.
(*)Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
[*]Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
[*]Perform a factory reset.
[*]Flash CyanogenMod.
[*]Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.

Just make sure your new card is partitioned correctly and yes you can just copy and paste from old to new. When you install cm7 it will change whatever files it needs to automatically.
I've found cm7 to be very stable and have had no issues.

I wouldn't say that the gapps are optional lmao...because then you'll have 300 people saying "wtf where's my market" k.
also, if they implement it they implement it. if they don't, they don't. if you're not happy with cm7 and are happy with cm6, then stick with cm6.
CM7>CM6 for sure.
Been using nightlys for a few weeks now and they are stable and fast. Very happy with cm7 but battery lasting only 3/4 of cm6

Can anyone explain the major updates/improvements between 6.1 and 7?
I tried to look at the Changelog on github, but its beyond my comprehension. Also, does 7 have the ability to install apps on sd built in? I ask some references to problems with apps2sd in the cm7 thread.
Thanks.

Yes a2sd comes built in.
The problems you're reading about in the cm7 thread have to do with the DT a2sd, not the built in a2sd.
EDIT: I would like to point out that DT a2sd works great for me and i prefer it over the built in a2sd as you can move ANY app to sd and still use widgets etc.. Getting it up and running after a factory reset seems to take a couple tries. That is really the only problem people seem to have with it.
ok so i flashed over the Phiremod Miui and got constant process.android.acore force closes..like every 10 seconds...i turned off my sync, but left background on and that slowed down the force closes...and of course there is the market issue as well...
it kinda bums me out because i like the MIUI rom...but yeah....anyone out there know of a fix for it?....i dug around in quite a few forums looking and couldn't find anything
i'm bumping this because i am still wondering if anyone has any input whatsoever...
I will reply. I put off responding because for the most part, people don't swear in their posts on this forum. Clean up your act.
2nd, there are threads in the development section for each rom which would address your problem if you would read them.
Nevertheless, when I flash a new rom I always format data, system and cache in clockwork mod recovery. Even tho some say you don't have to, I have found that it leads to a much better install.
I would not install any MIUI rom right now as there are problems with the market. I have not found a decent fix.
Standard cm7 or the MiRage roms are probably best for you.
Cm9 still has glitches that I don't think you are ready to handle (based on your experience with phiremods Miui).

Well i censored myself but that was mainly out of frustration, I usually have been able to fix most of my problems with any of my android devices...and this one was stumping me. I know there are separate threads in the dev section...but i did not have the allotted post count to post in those threads and did not want to spam a bunch of threads.
So, yeah i'm waiting on CM9 to get less buggy, simply because i want to use my NC as well as modify it, I prefer stable builds to testing or nightlies...I've been through that experience with a couple phones and it did not turn out well.
One of these days i'm going to jump in the deep end and try developing...but, as the rest of you. i'm quite busy when offline..
anyway, thank you for your input...
Apology accepted. Sounds like you know your way around android. But here are some suggestions if you are set on using Phiremods rom.
Again, in the mounts and storage section of recovery, format data, system and cache. Back out and do factory reset/wipe. I know people have said this is not necessary, but I have had problems when I have not done this.
Make sure you are using phiremods gapps. Standard cm7 ones won't work.
The market will fc. That is a given. You can uninstall updates to a certain point, then it will fc anyway.
I love the miui roms myself and am so sad that there is no new development on them for the nook.
I am using MiRage rom currently and am happy with it. I have also flashed samiams's cm9 and loved it but until they find a way to up the resolution and get video going, its not a daily driver for me.
If you are still having problems, post your install precedure and I'll see if I can help

I honestly hate to do this, because I know how we feel about post like this. I recently just bought a nook color with CyanogenMod-7.1.0-encore installed on it. I don't have a personal opinion as I haven't used a successful rom myself, but after an unstable rom did a number on my NC (to which I have yet to fix), I have spent hours upon hours searching through these forums for answers and I am constantly seeing people suggest CM7. As for what was wrong with your nook, chances are the rom was already having issues when the previous owner passed it on to you, but without knowing what all that person did, there's no certain answer, just guesses.

CM7 is stable. You may want to use Titanium Backup to back up your installed apps, do a factory reset with CWM, and flash the newest CM7 ROM, which is 7.2 Stable. It was just released this weekend and you can find it at cyanogenmod.com. Also flash the latest gingerbread gapps, which can be found at goo.im. Then use Titanium Backup to restore your apps.
So can I just install it through Rom Manager?
Yes. Wipe dalvik and you should be good to go.

I highly recommend CM 7.2 mirage... Can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3977
It's fast, stable, has lots of configurable options, and has been my daily driver ROM on my nook since early December. Plus the developer is attentive and puts out new updates fairly regularly. Check it out and you won't be sorry!
Posting here as I'm a noob, and consequently can't post to the P.A page directly.
Since this 2.12 update i've been having wifi issues, like from where i am positioned normally I get 1 bar, but its a steady one bar, now i'm often finding i have no internet connection in the same places as i would before.
I did do a dirty flash, so that is most probably where all my problems are arising from, but i'm still really new to this, and any step i take, i worry and fret over.
had some tablet ui bugs after running games, along with all applications running twice when i open recent apps. I don't know where why or when this recent apps double bug occurs, but i've come across it a few times. I believe the tablet ui bug may be related to when i set bobclock (widget) to force, adjusted the size on restart, but then would encounter the icons dropped off bottom of screen, and everything just out of place, like its reverted to old ui.
oh another issue, which has been mentioned many times before, is inability to use google play store, i've fiddled with all the different dpi settings and size, nothing seems to work.
a clean wipe would include
backing up apps/data/p.a sys pref(?)
wiping
cleaning cache's
flashing the same 2.12 p.a zip i dirty flashed before
caches again? or gapps
any dumbing down would be greatly appreciated

Wouldn't Kernel be more specifically tied to WiFi issues? I don't know what PA does to the kernel they include, but if your up to it, you could try another kernel, like franco.Kernel
Oh. Yes. i've been on that page and have trolled through a few hundred pages.
I think I just need to become a bit more familiar with everything in regards to roms flashing and such, its not difficult but i fear i'm sure to do something in the wrong order,
yes i've read guides before you point me there.
gosh this 5 min wait timer for new people is getting on my nerves i didn't think i'd be wanting to reply so fast, but when you guys are on it like this, i can't turn down that kinda service!
another question while i wait for my timer to finish.
initially i flashed pa. 2.11 then gapps along with doing cache business.
since then i flashed 2.12, but not gapps, and consequently having issues with play store (cant open)
can i just go to flashing 2.13 when it finishes downloading and then flash gapps after?
is the latest gapps jb-20120726-signed?

a kernel is one of these things i have no clue about.
i had a mac many years ago, and that got a kernel error, so my knowledge is limited to that its something root related, or there abouts anyway xd
How does one go about implementing one of these kernel do-hickeys?
on a side note, my wireless icon used to show grey and blue.
blue meant connected, grey, i'm not sure.. sometimes worked sometimes didn't
ever since going to 2.12 i've had nothing but grey, seem to have connection as i am downloading from goo, but as mentioned in initial post, connection is definately worse than it was before hand.. any ideas?

Sorry I took a while, I was in class. First, you always have to reflash gapps when you flash an update or a new ROM.
When you change to a different ROM (i.e. from Slim Bean to Paranoid) it's recommended to do a full wipe/factory reset before flashing the new ROM.
So the procedure for new ROMs is this. Factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, flash ROM, flash gapps, reboot.
The procedure for a ROM update is the same, you just omit the factory reset.
The latest gapps is gapps jb-20120810. You can download it in Goo manager.

A kernel is what governs your CPU clock speeds and voltage levels, as well as some other things. To flash a kernel, you don't have to wipe anything, just flash the zip file. Whenever you flash a new ROM, it changes your kernel to whatever is stock for that ROM. So if you use a custom kernel, you will have to reflash it.

p.a 2.13
might anyone have any idea why after;
wiping both cashes and installing p.a 2.13 then gapps
my youtube comes up with an error from the beginning, unable to start, same goes for if you click it in the app drawer.
i fiddled about with dpi size force and such, but to no avail.
some settings transferred but not all, like the ui, after switching ui back to what i wanted, tab small/mid
i started to recieve trebuchet has stopped working, this keeps popping up but you can just leave it in the back ground and work around it..
wish i could post this in the correct thread..
ah well.
thinking of just re-flashing them both, will do whatever i did this previous time, see if the error returns.
edit: just finished the reflashing of both, no trebuchet error as expected, the youtube one is back, same as the previous flash.
i really don't think i've done anything wrong, but i haven't seen anyone else reporting this error..
edit edit: simple uninstall and reinstall for youtube and problem solved.
hope its an issue localised to me.

So, I just got my Nexus 4, and before I start playing with it, I'd like to go ahead and ROM it.
I want really good battery life, and lots of customization options for the UI.
I don't know a TON about ROMs aside from how to install them etc. I've done that a bit with several phones.
My big question is nightlies. I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall a new ROM every day, or even every week... I want one that I can install, and use for a long time that updates itself (like the stock ROM does with Google). My understanding of nightlies might be completely wrong, but it sounds like I have to reinstall the ROM every day?
What are your thoughts/opinions? I'm leaning toward CM10.1, but like I said, I don't want to have to reinstall every day. Does it auto update these "nightlies"?
If a nightly rom is fine you don't have to update it if you don't want to.

It wont auto-update. You have to flash it. And when new nightlies come out, there usually arent huge changes to the rom.
You can dirty flash the rom and all apps and settings should remain, however thats not the best way to install a rom for stabilty. Its recommended that you do a full wipe.
On a side note, if your looking for lots of customization options i wouldnt go with cm10.1. Try roms based on AOKP like carbon, liquid smooth, etc.
They have tons of settings to play around with which cyanogenmod lacks.

I honestly dont see the point of flashing nightlies every single time they come out.

When a new nightly comes out and you was it, just flash the new update rom on top of the old one. Don't worry about installing your apps again. As long as you don't do a factory reset your apps should be on your device.

If you are coming from a different ROM you should probably do a full wipe.
Dirty flashing may cause bugs. But if you are upgrading the same ROM dirty flashing will allow you to keep everything.
