I just recently purchased a 6800 and am not sure if I want to stick with it... What does everyone know about the Touch and 6800? Pro's / Con's? I understand the Touch doesn't have a keyboard, but my 6800 doesn't have much ram and freezes up a bit... Not quite sure what to do... If someone knows of a reg hack to be able to use the sd card for more ram or another way, please let me know as this is really the only downside I see to the 6800.
The clincher for me is Touch has no Wifi, but that may not matter to you if you have an unlimited data plan.
for me the physical keyboard is still a much needed option. tapping with the stylus or finger is quite annoying for many activities and can be slow for emails or heavy texting.
the only thing that worried me about 6800 is memory and so far i am doing just fine
i have many apps running at once and still enough memory free.
the lack of keyboard and wifi killed the touch for me as an option

Totally agree! Physical keyboard is not an option, it is a must.
I have to agree w/ everyone else. I have the 6800, and no data plan. I have no desire to use the data plan as I have wifi access 95% of my day, the other 5% i'm driving. so a phone w/o wifi is a no-go for me. Also the keyboard. I need to feel the keys when typing. I'm just getting used to using the touch screen 4 the dialer. I wouldn't want to use the touch screen for typing emails, and txts.
Touch... Reluctantly
With Aliant [Bell in Nova Scotia, Canada] The data plan costs $25 per month for 4mb on the 6800 and $7 for unlimited on the Touch because in their words - the Touch doesn't have e keyboard and so is not a data phone. Nice. I just switched to the touch for that reason.
Recently I was in the sprint store holding my titan next to the touch and comparing the two....
The screen is the exact same size....
I started talking with another lady waiting to be called on, and it looks like the touch is simply the Titan cut in half...
Both have touch screens, the exact same size....
Take away most of the buttons, and take away the keyboard...
and you have a touch...
One advantage... slightly slimmer (because you have NO KEYBOARD)
lol... I can't see this as an upgrade... especially considering there are instructions on this site to flash a rom with the touch skins, making it easier to use your fingers on the screen.
IF the screen isn't bigger, I can only say they have stripped away buttons and made the device harder to operate.....
Is there any actual "benefit" to having a touch over the titan???
I liked it at first... until I compared the screen size with my phone and found the touch skins....
Really, the only benefit I see is a slimmer and (appears to be) slightly more durable enclosure.....
If anyone knows of any real 'upgrade' in getting the new touch... please tell me, because I was starting to confuse myself at how I liked it, yet 5 minutes later saw it as a stripped titan.
as i szee it...
the touch has 2 things the titan does not have.
titan has 64mb ram compared to 128mb ram in the touch
touch has hardware based touchflo screen
the touchflo screen is a nice thing you can do without but i do wish my titan had 128mb of memory
whats the difference between the screen on my titan and a 'touchflo' screen
agreed... twice the ram is good...
but i have buttons and a keyboard
maybe a few too many buttons, but the scroll wheel/button combo is nice for one handed operations, sometimes its not as easy as you'd think to hohld the phone and use your thumb on the screen or middle of the phone to scroll.
I'm sure its been asked, but anyone know if its possible to upgrade the titan ram? Even by opening the phone case....?
I'm sure it would be soldered on and non-removable anyways...
I saw another post asking about using storage on the sd card for memory, but no one had an answer.
in the store the screens looked like the exact same part re-used in the newer touch or vogue... whatever it is sprint has now
oh how I forgot about the Jog wheel! Yes, I would definitely miss this on the Touch.
The TouchFlo screen I believe has another sensor which was talked about here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-326853.html
I tried to Software based touchFlo apps, and ultimately I felt the Titan worked better with out them.
Now if only we could increase the RAM we would be set..
So for me it came down to WiFi and Vzw didn't have the touch when I got my titan
So about the screen: The touch's is flush which is nice though not a big deal. TouchFlo is software. Much needed software IMO. The main thing is finger scrolling w/o the side bar. There's also things like the large start menu and the large title bar. It makes the Windows Mobile UI a whole lot easier to use. It's also got a different touch keyboard which is nice.
Now that's good, but with some searching of the forum you can find all the cabs for those. Though some are a bit buggy or TouchFlo is no longer free.
Now the XV6800 has the keyboard: that's personal. It's also got a bigger battery. If it matters the 6800 has a camera flash/light which may or may not be something to consider. It's nice to have sometimes and with codyppc's work you can use both cameras (the touch one produces better quality.)
So WiFi and keyboard and bigger battery or smaller size, more RAM, and better interface.
The touch is usually cheaper.
HTH.
I just got a Touch today to play around with.
My first impression is I LOVE how it looks and how it feels to hold. It feels MUCH smaller than the Titan. The flush touchscreen is much easier to use with the fingers than the inset touchscreen on the Titan. I personally can live without the keyboard, but I need Wifi so I'll probably keep the Titan and resell the Touch when I get bored of it. However, if the Touch had Wifi I would definitely keep it.
One thing I noticed about the Touch LCD vs. Titan, the Titan LCD is significantly better. It looks fairly uniform at any viewing angle, but the Touch has terrible vertical viewing angles. It washes out when tilted up or down. It seems to be a different LCD technology than the Titan.
Hi all,
I gave my mrs my old 02 Orbit the other day so she could use the tomtom on it (it was such a great phone I couldn't bring my self to sell it so it's been sitting in it's box for 2 years). She's now falen in love with WM and loves all the apps that you can get for it (brain training etc etc).
but, being an old phone it's low on memory etc, and she wants a pink one (I know...but she's a girl, what can I do)
so, we had a look around yesterday and didn't really find anything she liked, so she was thinking that maybe an omnia would work. Thing is, the omina is fairly big and has a non standard screen size.
So, I'm thinking that maybe the touch would be a good phone for her (I can customise it with a pink skin).
what are peoples thoughts of it?
I've got a touch HD but that's just a bit too big for her, and she isn't a fan of the diamond.
i am big fan of sony ericsson phone..reason i culd customize each and everythn accor to my needs..unfortunately due to work i had to purchase a WM..elfin was my first WM..first i thought i missed the customization like in SE..but after i came here and heard of all the custo i am amazed..elfin can handle anythn and evrythn..i wuld say to close ur eyes and go for this.
ok..is there an easy way of differentiating the array of versions? some have 64 MB some have 128, some have GPS, some appear to not have this etc etc
should I be looking for a model number? or is it as simple as one is a Touch, and the other is a Touch 3G?
the flavors in touch are,
Touch P3450 - Called as Elf 64/128 RAM/ROM size
Touch P3452 - Called as Elfin 128/256 RAM/ROM size
Touch 3G - Dunno the model number and technical term..but this version of Touch as 3G as per the name itself, dunno the size of RAM/ROM.
P3452 is the enhanced version of P3450 in regards to RAM/ROM.
AFAIK, the above specs are true..if some1 find it false, please advice the thread starter.
there is also touch viva which is similar to touch elf htc p3450, with newer rom and looks more modern. Inside the same, outside not similar nad what is the most important - touch viva is more expensive.
Edit
If not htc, try to find asus p552w. It's small and powerful.
Hi mates,
I am thinking of getting me a new cell phone for Christmas so I wanted to ask you for some advice. The touch2 is on a bit lower level than the diamond2, but for me is the diamond2 very ugly. On the other side, the diamond2 has a larger screen and better camera I also wanted to ask you if you think it's easy to write everything on the screen as I write more often SMS instead of calling, and my current cell phone does have a physical keyboard. Another thing I wanted to know is the battery life - my N95 can't handle even a whole day at full usage, so I was hoping the touch2 would be better here..
Thanks for your replies in advance!

i had that question too and i decided to get the diamond2, because:
1.larger screen with wvga(400*800, while the touch2 has 240*320)
2.diamonds hardware is much better and it as openGl and so touchflo 3D
3.there are a lot of dimond roms, while the touch doesnt have a single one
I bought the Touch2, there's a seperate 3,5mm jack for headphones.
You can buy a 3.5mm Audio adaptor for the Diamond2, so you can connect 3.5mm audio jacks anyway.
http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/nl/p_htc_item.aspx?i=179130
I went for the Touch2. Its not that i gonna surf a lot on the phone or watch a lot of movies. I don't like the current (dead/colorless looking) Diamond2 interface and not gonna install rom's while phone is under warranty. So rather had the Touch2 who is compact, with a nice looking interface. Bad thing about Touch2 is not having the auto focus. Close up pictures suck.
Good luck finding you're phone Seclubbg.
i bought my touch2 after an experience with my diamond ( stolen ).
I can tell u the display is pretty nice, the difference with a vga or wvga is noticeble only on certain app...
The bad only thing on this phone are:
- no g-sensor
-no light sensor
- bad camera.
However if the diamond2 is the same as diamond, tf3d doesn't support rotation with g-sensor and the rotation of the telephone while using opera sometimes results in program crash.... ( i'm not telling g-sensor is useless, teeter was AWESOME!!!)
On the other side touch2 has win 6.5 that imho is great compared to 6.1.
Fastest, more stable and the interface is more finger friendly than 6.1.
Although have have it since 2 days the autonomy of the battery is much looonger.

Hi ;
New member.
How do yoou enable the transcriber on yhe HTC Touch2.
Doesnt seem to be on menu system!
Thanks in advance
Hiya,
I've had my trusty Touch Pro 2 (GSM version) for some time now, I'm thinking about upgrading to the HD2. I would like some input before taking the leap! The main reason I want to upgrade is due to the lag/slowness of the HTC Touch Pro 2, this is preventing me from using the phone to its fullest, disabling a lot of functions etc just so I can try and optimize speed.
Has anyone here upgrade from one to the other, If so, How significant are the performance gains?? I'm overclocking the TP2 CPU to 710mhz, but it still seems quite slow, is the HD2 worth the upgrade from this perspective? Also - how significant is the extra ram??
My other problem is the lack of physical keyboard, the last four phones I have owned have all had physical keyboards, this Touch Pro 2 keyboard is the best by far, for anyone going from a physical keyboard to the HD2, what's your experience? does the 4.3" screen compensate for lack of a physical keyboard?
Please note: Phone will be used mainly for business purposes, i.e. emails, internet, organizer, stock quotes etc. I only very occasionally used the music player.
Thanks for any help
went from the TP2 to the HD2 about a month or two ago. The bigger screen rocks. Once you spend a little time with the capacitive display on the HD2, you'll hate having to touch the TP2s screen.
You will forever miss the physical keyboard. Not a day goes by where I'm typing out a text where I ****ing hate the damn onscreen keyboard. The arrow placement as well as the T9/ABC keys are just too damn inconvenient. I'd take the extra bulkiness anyday to get the TP2s physical keyboard on here.
I never upgraded my TP2 to 6.5 because I always read that it ate way too much memory. You won't have that issue on the HD2. It's super speedy. The onlly thing you'll experience any lag on is HTCs reworked messaging app. Luckily that can be disabled.
My only other gripe about the HD2 is that with Manila 2.5 HTC took out the battery usage statistics on the Power settings page. Other than that, take the plunge. The HD2 is a phenominal phone. Once you start using the glorious capacitive 4.3" screen, the only thing you'll miss from the TP2 is the keyboard.
so you think overall (despite the lack of keyboard) it is worth upgrading from TP2 to HD2??
join us, join us.
No really, do join us. This is one of the few true superphones out this year, and will still be relevant for at least a year.
I had a TP2 before the HD2. The HD2 is so slim compared to it. You won't notice the difference in your pocket though, it will take up slightly more room b/c of it's screen. I have to say though, that 4.3" screen really is space efficient. Screen quality-meh, just a tad better than the TP2. Comfort...TP2 feels more confortable hands down, whether its in your hand, held next to your ear, or in your pocket. Keyboard? Gosh, let's just say that if you are a very very high texter, keep your tp2, or better yet downgrade to a messaging phone..those are faster anyways. Otherwise, for occasional users, Swype makes the keyboard actually bearable. In terms of speed, HD2 blows the TP2 away. It doesn't really run stuff faster, but it is more capable of running stuff. (No freezing, soft resets, low memory, etc) But that's a major gripe of WM phones prior to the HD2. So if thats your biggest gripe, I would even more urge you to upgrade. Not to mention, you can grab one for a song these days.
Here's the thing, I know you are unsure, as you expressed in post #3. Your post asking for confirmation shows you feel the #2 post is mixed. Well let me make this clear: My post OVERWHELMINGLY tells you to upgrade.
Cheers!
hands down, lack of keyboard is worth everything else that you gain with the hd2.
going back is now simply unthinkable (particularly because of the screen and snapdragon)
Well... I'm not a particularly HEAVY texter. However, I do need to occasionally edit documents on the run/write emails. You are correct, my biggest gripe at the moment is with the whole speed thing. I want to be able to use HTC sense as it was designed without having to turn everything off to conserve CPU power/memory. I also feel restricted as I don't really install any 3rd party apps due to fear of 'cluttering'.
In saying that, the TP2 has been very trusty, other than the speed and ram issues, the keyboard has been nothing short of flawless and the stability has been impressive (coming from an Xperia with the infamous SOD issue, this TP2 has been in a league of its own).
I guess another issue which bothered me is the screen rotation time for the keyboard to switch things into landscape, that was quite an annoyance on the run.
I do keep a blackberry bold as a backup phone, so I guess if I really missing a physical keyboard that much, I can give it a whirl. So yeah.. I have gone ahead with my purchase, hopefully won't regret it! Now... time for the 'extras' - docks and such!
if it wasn't clear in my first post.... UPGRADE!!!!
seriously! though you'll miss the keyboard, the phone is still a whole new beast that you'll fall in love with. Hell, just watch a movie on the 4.3" screen & you'll be sold.
If you lived in Phoenix, AZ I'd say come & have a look at mine for an hour to help nudge over to the HD2 crowd.
I changed my phone 2 weeks ago from TP2 to HD2.
My main thing was also the keyboard. But when you rotate the HD2 you get the same keyboard, only on screen... But it works great.
I love the speed, love the big screen, dont miss my physical keyboard.
Just do it......
Touch Pro2 is a good phone. HD2 is a great phone.
My previous 2 phones both had hardware keyboards and I wondered how I would manage without when I got my HD2. It did take some getting used to and if I'm honest I can type faster on a hardware keyboard than on a touch screen. My typing speed is improving all the time though. If you cant get along with the standard SIP, Swype is uncanny in its ability to correctly guess the words you want.
My friend got a Touch Pro2 as a free upgrade and was happy until he tried my HD2. His TP2 went straight on to ebay and he now has a HD2 and is delighted.
I don't want to sound too evangelical but go for the HD2 it really is as good as everyone on here says it is.
I left the TP2 for the HD2 a couple of months ago. Wow, so much better. If you type a lot though you'll miss the keyboard. I just ordered a Mini Bluetooth keyboard that I'm hoping will make the HD2 the best of both worlds!
I forgot to mention, I really mis MS voice Command on BT. Doesn't work on the HD2. Cyberon works fine, once you add the fix here on XDA...

MS Voice Command v1.6.23562 works fine via bluetooth on my TMOUS HD2 with Miri & DINIK's v19 ROM.
As far as the TP2 and HD2 go, I still use both daily. The TP2 for work, due to it's keyboard, and the HD2 for personal use. IMHO, the combination of screen size, increased CPU speed, double the RAM, quadruple the ROM, along with the ability to run a well functioning Android 2.2 build, all make the HD2 the obvious winner over the TP2.
Best to all,
R

No kidding?! Thanks, I'll try that setup! I've looked all over, this is the first I've found an HD2 working with MSVC over a BT headset. It really takes the command and verifies over the headset?

Yes, MSVC works exactly as it does with my TP2 via BT. I use it with the Jabra BT3030 & BT8010 headsets, as well as the Motorola S705.
If you would like, I can attach it. It installs with an installation error, but works as intended.
Best to all,

Thanks! No need for the attachment, I have the cab for that version. I sincerely apreciate the offer though. I'll be trying that version soon!
If you want the most awesome Windows Mobile 6.5 device, go for it!
If you just want an awesome device, I'd pick something else.
Multi touch is not working properly in gallery and IE.
it recognizes two fingers only if they are pressed at the same time, I think its a bug in the touchscreen driver of wp7.

Hope to help you

i found out that if you place one finger on the screen before another.....pinch to zoom will not work. But if u place both on at the same time it works.....kinda weird cuz android work either way.
There's people saying in the forum that it's a problem related to the microsd compatibility with wp7. Can anybody please confirm that multitouch is working great on their hd2?

I remember that thread.... it never showed any proof except for what some HTC customer service person said... I wouldn't call that reliable. When I was doing research about the touchscreen and trying to find the info the devs needed to write touch screen drivers when they were trying to get the linux kernel working, all the info I found pointed to the hd2 only being capable of 2 points. All the phones HTC released at the time the hd2 was released was only capable of 2 points. HTC made a big deal and announcement when the next generation of phones came out that were using the newer touch sensors that were capable of more than 2 points.
The HD2 is only ever going to have 2 point multitouch.
But that doesn't mean that the current issues with the 2 point multitouch can't be worked out so the pinch to zoom works better... hopefully drivers will be improved so it works as well as android. I do know the sensors can register it when you have one finger on the screen and then a second is added, it still registers both because in a wp7 app called fireworks, i put one finger on screen and it make a firework, then leaving it on screen i add a second finger, and then fireworks go off below each finger... so it seems at least in that app, when second finger is added, it acts like the first finger is touched again along with the second finger.

I installed WP7 without a microsd, still have this problem. I don't know if it is the same on other WP7 devices.
The only phones I have used that felt really good playing games that needed multi touch, are the dreaded Iphone and the Samsung Galaxy S
Must admit multi touch gaming on the HD2 be it Android, WP7 or the ageing WM is pretty poor to say the least.
Anyone know if the Desire HD or HD7 has multi touch gaming issues ?
the new HTC phones have practically unlimited touch so yes Desire HD and Z are perfect for gaming
Put your 8Gb or 16GB microSD card in the device and then Hard Reset(1) your windowsphone (it will go to the first day but with the memory)...just your memory function will be like internal memory, you cant get it out of your phone.
(1):hard reset:go to settings then tap aboy phone then tap hard reset.before this backup all of you pictures, contacts, messages and...
better compatable microSDs are Sandisk 8GBHC-class4...
Multitouch works, but luggy. I installed touch test and it shows that 2 point multitouch works if you put too fihgers in same time? but if you put one finger then second it starts luggy((((
I fink its the driver, i search throo all registery and nothing(((
the HD2 uses different hardware as already pointed out on here, to think that HTC are going to update their WP7 drivers to support the HD2 better is laughable.
takes a bit of getting used to but its not so bad, if you have a real issue with it then your going to have to buy an HD7, WP7 on the HD2 is free if you have the device already, so you get what you pay for!
Pinch-to-zoom bug is still active
I hoped, that Mango would solve the problem, but it's still there.
I gat a lot of unwanted jumps if I don't touch precisely with two fingers at the same time.
Is there any prospective of an driver-fix?
No, its unlikely in afraid
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
So that means Assassin Creed is unplayable since it requires multi touch if you are running and jumping at the same time ??
Hi outthere
I developed a multitouch sdk (WinMo) for the hd2 sometime ago and yeah the hd2 is capable of true multitouch with two fingers (meaning you don't have to put 'em down the same time) but if the fingers are near they'll get axis aligned...
Strangely, there's a dll where you can register an event and it sends data for three fingers^^ tough the third finger never has any data so no idea wether the screen can recognise more than 2 fingers
But anyway, it's indeed a driver/api issue but as WP7 is extremly closed it's not very likely to have this issue solved
second multitouch location sometimes missing
I think I'm getting the same problem. I am trying to create a simple drum machine application in silverlight for wp7. I am finding that about 60% of the time when I tap the screen in 2 different locations at the same time (or almost the same time) one of the locations is not being detected. I'm guessing it's because of this issue.
However I've previously implemented pinch n zoom functionality into another app and it works flawlessy which seems strange. Surely it should exhibit the same issue.
