[Q] Dust under screen? - EVO Shift 4G General

Does anyone have any issues with dust under the screen?

Coming from a Hero? So far, no dust on mine. All 4 of the Heros I went through had dust.

Yep. How do you like yours so far, compared to the Hero? (Especially Battery Life?)

I was lucky and never had dust under the hero's screen. No dust under this one either. I'm ejoying this phone sooo much. I didn't really love the hero until I rooted and got sense out of there, because it was never powerful enough to run it correctly. This phone on the other hand handles it great! My battery life is also better.
I use my phone pretty often and always have background data and sync and all enabled... and I've had my phone unplugged for the past 12hrs and still have 36% left.

My hero never had a dust issue, and with stock rom at 20 hours I had 73%. Granted I had nothign really installed nor did I use my phone on it, I did have weather and weather bug both syncing quite regularly and also k-9 mail syncing every 10 minutes. For a non rooted-stock Hero I think that's pretty amazing.
On topic
I'd hope that no one had any dust issues on the shift yet, that would just be sad. I haven't been able to really test the battery yet.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant Dies.....Overheated...

I am new here but just wanted to know if anyone else has had issues with their Samsung Vibrant overheating???? I have had this phone for less than 2 months from my carrier and now it is dead and in for repair!! I went to go grab the phone and the screen did not come on; however, the buttons at the bottom were lit up so i tried the buttons on the side of the phone (on/off switch) still nothing. The top half of my phone (not where the battery is) got so hot that it burnt my hand. Then I noticed blue, red, green pixel stars on the screen (which by the way burnt the screen). I don't know if it is a faulty battery/charger? Or what. When I spoke to my carrier, they told me that this is the first they have heard about anything like my case. It has been in the shop for more than 1 month now and I am getting very annoyed..as they gave me a loaner Galaxy to use and I HATE IT!!! Anyone have any suggestions??? I did not game on this phone or anything...
Thanks so much,
Pam
Happened to an HTC Aria I had, and had to get a new replacement to AT&T. The digitizer went (burnt?) out, and since it's a touchscreen only phone it became unusable because I couldn't really do anything on it.
What kind of charger did you use? Especially car charger...
I have never had it on with a car charger. I have heard that one should put the phone on plane mode as the green charge battery light will not come on. From what I hear they are replacing the screen (which they have no choice as it is burnt) as well as the board. Why is it taking soooooooooooo long? I usually have it on WiFi all the time; however, this should not do anything. It makes me mad....I have waited for this phone to come out and when I got it, I thought there was no other...until this happened. I did notice it acting kinda slow and I realize some phones do get warm...but should NEVER get hot enough to burn one's hand!!!!
I'm guessing you didn't OC the phone or anything.
Yea, I keep mine on WiFi basically 80% of the time, but the phone (in stock form) turns that off when the phone sleeps. I have brightness set to auto.
I notice my phone gets very hot when I have it on a car charger, and I'm using a charger from T-Mobile. It doesn't happen when I have it charging from an outlet in the wall through a USB Extended cable.
That's the only time I notice my phone getting hot.
Also, using the phone on WiFi tends to keep the phone cooler than using it on a data connection - I've noticed that for a few phones I've owned.
The overheating issue was also a big problem with HTC HD2s (except those phones would just go into a reboot loop/lock up, instead of burning up ).
No I did not overcharge the phone; however, I do notice that the battery life is almost nil on this phone. Full charge does not last 2 long on the phone and I only use it basically to text my daughters...and a little texam holden lol. But I have noticed with this galaxy (the loaner phone) the battery stays good for 2 - 3 days! Although I really hate this phone so I do not use that much! How would they be able to tell if it is the battery?? From what they have told me, they are only replacing the screen and the board....Well something made it go hot!! Battery or charger...When I took the phone back to Aliant I was going to give them everything including the charger, but they just sent it away with the battery. How do they know it was not the charger?? Getting very frustrated....I have always owned a Samsung phone and have never had any issues until this phone....makes me want to go back....but I do like the Vibrant when it was working....esp the screen.....
Only things I've ever come across that have made a Vibrant overheat is using cheap non-oem extended batteries, overclocking the CPU / GPU or leaving it a car in a 120+ climate then expecting to make heavy of use it without allowing it to cool down first.
I have never replaced the battery...it is brand new (less than 2 months old)....Thank god I had insurance on it... One would think that it would not take this long to come back from being fixed!!! Have never left in car....don't have to worry about the 120 degrees we are INTO snow now!! LOL... I am disappointed with Samsung. How can they tell what made it go that way?? Battery? Home Charger? They should replace the battery in my opinion as well!!
How often does the Vibrant overheat? Is this a common issue?
not sure.....it only took one time for me that fried the phone...Now they are supposedly replacing the screenh (they have to it burnt an image on it) as well as the board.
I have never heard of this happening with the vibrant. They claim they have not heard of this issue??!! I cannot believe this. I would like to know what caused this. I thought perhaps it was the WiFi being on all the time, but I do not think this is why. I do not game on it....I do not overcharge it (only charge it via home charger when it shows battery getting low - which might i add says it is almost drained at mid day??!)
Seriously, I have never heard of a phone overheating. I mean, sure they get hot when talking on it, but never overheat.
my phone has gotten really hot gaming on it while charging (stock charger and moto cliq charger), but it's never died or even decreased performance from it. even when oc'd.
Mine has gotten warm twice: once, I left Google Maps w/ GPS open when I put the phone in my pocket, and didn't realize it until I felt the heat in my pocket; the other time, I left ScummVM running (which apparently doesn't suspend properly), draining my battery over about two hours, again in my pocket.
Both times the phone was only warm to the touch. Nothing like you've described.
So do you have T-Mobile or Bell? If you have Bell (sounds like you do, I'm 99% positive) this is limited to the Bell i9000m Vibrant and not the T-Mobile T959 Vibrant.

There are threas on T-Mobile's official Vibrant forum about this issue.
My vibrant gets very very hot from time to time. I keep it on a usb hooked up to my computer at work with wifi on all day. Sometimes it will get super hot and not want to charge. I restart the phone and it usually fixes the problem. But its not the battery that gets hot, its for sure the yup part of the phone.

Sounds to me like you had a bad battery...this can cause the battery to overheat while charging. I work in construction and when the batteries on my power tools fail you can cook an egg on them when they are charging.

my phone goes to 120plus with me playing while charging. Why don't they just replace thw phone?

OMG there is a ScummVM emu!!!! BRBBRBRBRBRBRBRB.....
Did u happen to have anytype of case on your vibrant. I notuced when I charge my phone with the case on it got prety hot. Not to where it would burn my hand, but hotter than I really thought my phone should be while charging. So I take the case off when I put it on the charger.

Focus over heating

No one has brought this issue up as far as I know but I am on my 2nd Focus and 2nd battery and having what i believe to be heat related lock ups.
I reformatted tried with fresh phone not even signed into a Live ID and I can duplicate this issue about 90% of the time. I make a phone call and stuff it in my shirt pocket with a jacket on. It will lock up with the Samsung Logo and be hot to the touch. A battery pull is needed to reset and the battery is extremely hot. When I reboot the battery life is drastically diminished.
I am not using an SD card and replicated the issue with or without apps. The only way I can keep it from locking up is on my hip in a case. I can only imagine how the summer will be if I am having the problems now in the winter.
ps I kept my Touch Pro 2 and currently My Moto Droid in my pocket without issue.
Bizarre. I've never experienced that issue before. My Focus usually stays pretty cold actually.
Maybe yours is defective? It's possible.
No issues with the phone getting hot, or even warm, for me.
2 phones and batteries. I thought I would just put it out there to see if others were having issues.
I've noticed my phone getting a little warm while playing Crackdown but it never got slow or locked up ever.
When I download many songs from Zune or play a long game it gets pretty warm but it has never been "to hot" to hold and never crashed.

I also had this problem, i just had this happen for the first time today. I was using my phone earlier in the day, all of a sudden I felt it getting warm in my pocket. After I pulled it out, it was stuck on the samsung logo and warm to the touch. Pulling the battery and resetting does nothing. I keeps booting to the Samsung logo and never proceeds further. I have even left it off for a few hours and attempted to power it up again: still no luck.
I am unable to hard reset the phone.
I called my local AT&T store before they closed, they agreed to replace it tomorrow :-\
I am having so much buyers remorse. I would have returned it but it happened on my 31st day. I went through 2 phones and batteries and I still get the problem. If I talk on the phone or surf the net and stick it in my pocket the phone is toast until I realize it and do a battery pull. If I wait too long the battery is pretty much drained.
I don't ever think I will buy a Samsung again. WM7 is lacking but I knew what I was getting into but from the memory card debacle and the Samsung Boot menu the phone is crap. Hell we can't even set it down flat on a surface and use the tough screen properly. Beautiful screen but all other hardware is crap.
I also noticed a pretty hot Samsung Focus in my pocket today. After turning off wireless search it got cold again.
I have experinced the heating up issue. It happens a few times a week. I kind of think it could potentially be dangerous because of the battery. Samsung should have a recall or fix for free.

If they start blowing up they might issue a recall, but until bodily injury (and getting sued for real bucks) is on the table it is probably cheaper for them to replace or fix them.
Samsung got a ton of bad press for the GPS woes in the Galaxy S line of phones and didn't do a thing about it.
The SD card thing is weird. MS could have revoked their Windows Phone 7 compatible seal of approval but didn't probably bc it was a launch device and didn't want to piss off Samsung. Rediculous.
MS and Intel went through the same thing with the 'Vista Certified' thing. They let big names do what they want because either way they are getting paid for the licences.
my focus got warm when playing Need 4 Speed Undercover from start to finish in 1 sitting lol but my Nexus One,Palm Pre,and iphone would get hot after playing for that amount of time too. It just depends on what u are doing and how long u are doing it imo.
I did make 1 hour call on my Focus and it doesnot seem overheating...
Alson runed the Harvest for harvest and it was fine...

Anyone else have overheating?

Seems like when,i use my phone between 20 30 min intervals it gets real hot in the back. I have a case and the whole case gets hot.
Today while listening to pandora for 45 mins while cutting my hair it just turned off. Phone was hot....
Anyone else with this issue??
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I don't have a case but I ran pandora for 2 and half hours today and the back was still cool to the touch.
I haven't had any issues with this. Used the sirius/xm app for about 2 hours and it wasn't even warm.
mine actually gets really hot as well. i used google navigation for about 30 minutes today and the back got really hot, mostly at the bottom half of the phone. i have a incipio feather case and the case got warm as well. i haven't had the overheating affect any performance issues though but am a little worried that it's getting so hot. are you going to bring yours in to have it looked at?

Same here, used navigation for about 20 minutes and the phone was very warm.
im not sure what to make of this. the first day i had the phone, i had a missed call, and the phone got pretty warm in my pocket.?!?!?! later, talking on the phone and it got to be almost HOT.
yesterday i had a couple of 20 minute browsing sessions and the phone just got good and warm. but it dosnt seem to effect permormance at all, and the battery isnt draining too fast or anything, so im not worried about mine at this point.
nope mine is always cool as a cucumber
Mine gets warm/gentle hot when browsing or doing any stuff that needs data transfer over 3G/H.
Have a movie going on (from SD) for ~2 hours now, and it is still cool.
Having come from the N1 where this was a constant issue I can tell you it is due to placement of parts. The CPU sits immediately behind the lower part of the phone. Heavy CPU use will result in a hot phone.
Also keeping it in your pocket will heat it up too. Body heat and background processes that use the CPU.
It is only and issue if you are very hot for a long time. Can result in reboots and crashing.
The back of mine did get rather warm in the car after using Nav for ~30 minutes, however this doesn't seem any different than what my old Tilt did and is normal for smart phones.
If your phone does actually get hot enough to power itself off, then I'm guessing either you've got it in a very poor case (or warm pocket with no ventilation), or it's defective.
Pandora alone shouldn't be enough to make the phone hot. I'd suggest try running it with the phone sitting on a table and no case. If it still gets hot after 20 minutes, exchange it. If it doesn't, get a new case.
I also have the feather incipio case. It got so hot it crashed.... Nice case but worried if it keeps getting hot it may, cause, life of phone to, be a lot shorter!!!
If it happens again I'm going to take it to ATT.

My Atrix that I exchanged today was getting warm alot also. Shoot the one I'm using now is warm. I figured the phone just has that problem. I have a friend who complain of theirs getting hot. Neither of us have experienced the shut down issue though. And I get it just from browsing the web!! I would have expected Motorola to discover this temperature problem during testing. They probably decided "it's not extreme, so we'll still sale a couple million." Heck Apple HAS BIGGER issues with signal problem & they are still selling like Red Lobster's biscuits.

Same here, the bottom of my phone gets warm from just browsing, which I'm not used to at all. However, it's good to know that I'm not the only one, although I wish none of us experienced this.

INFUSE overheating HELP
So I got a replacement infuse and still I have the same problem temperature on it gets really hot. I haven't let it to hot mainly because I don't have a case or cover on it.... it only gets that hot when using it while charging and its not the battery. Same thing... I am using Faux's 2.0 kernel. Using Antutu CPU Master Free for now to adjust speeds. I've seen the temp @ 41C a couple of times. I have the profile set to powersave with a min of 216 and max of 1300.
I have not had any shutdown issues but, I do have an issue with my widgets disappearing on me randomly.

Really Disappointed

I have recently bought a Desire Z and have to say I am hugely disappointed with it thus far. I am finding that the battery life is poor and more worryingly I am continually losing my network signal. I had an HD2 previously and had none of these problems. Just wondering if the way forward is to go down the rooting route, will this improve things. I am currently on stock rom/ radio on t-mobile UK.

Never had these problems since day one... if you got dz just recently, you should get it replaced, may be it is a defective piece of hardware which is why you are losing signals and battery won't last long enough. I never had a problem with dz/tm g2's battery or network signals even with stock rom. after i flashed different rom, battery time goes up and down but never seems to be bad.
Yeah I honestly have not had any problems with my G2. I love it. My only gripe is the loose hinge issue...I took mine apart and stretched the spring to help, but it's still a little loose. Never had any issues with connectivity or battery life.
If the only real problems are battery drain and signal loss, it could be an issue with the radio. You can certainly root it and flash a new radio to see if that helps alleviate the issues. If not then there are guides here on how to put it back to factory conditions, which I would do, and see if you can get it replaced.
Or just get it replaced first and see if the next one is any better. I haven't had any issues with mine. I got it in February of this year and this is by far the best phone I have ever owned. My fiance has an HD2 which is giving her nothing but problems (kinda the reverse of your situation).
Thanks for your replies. Wondering if there is a network issue, as my wife has an HTC Wildfire which is doing the same signal loss thing, don't know if the DZ and Wildfire have anything in common which would cause this problem? Just seems odd that we have both upgraded to HTC Android phones in the last 2weeks and both now have issues.

May be it is an issue with network? Sometimes I have strange issues with Rogers, it usually happens around same area and the same time of the day, each time it happens. I wouldn't be able to do anything with my phone during the period of time if I am in the area...
Speaking of HTC, they make a very nice piece of hardware, I have seen pictures of HTC phone saves a life of a person hit by a bullet... So far, this is my 3rd HTC phone, never am disappointed, may be you just having hardluck.

How do you hold you phone? The bottom half inch on the back of the phone is your antenna, and if I cover that with my hand while holding my phone my signal goes to ****. I have adapted and now hold it with my left hand thumb and index finger.

Also I have taken to putting the phone in my pocket with the screen facing my body. That way it has better signal, doesn't use battery searching for signal. Also, a good failsafe to protect your screen.

If HD2 gets hot, you will die!

Ok, recently I've been having freezing problems constantly and I found out that is was my old sim card that was causing the most problem with that deal. I got a new sim and it is working much better, but still has some freezes but not as much as before. I can conclude that my HD2 has always run hot, but now that I got a new sim it doesn't run as hot but I think the heat sensor is faulty as it barely gets hot but freezes my phone anyways. I got to thinking is there anyway we can either disable or bypass the heat sensor on our HD2 software wise or even hardware wise? So I google searched and stumbled on to this:
http://wmpoweruser.com/if-your-htc-hd2-gets-hot-you-will-die/
Now, this scared me. I think there is a reason why there is a temperature safety valve on our phones!
he just might have a faulty device ?!
our devices too heat up !
that doesnt mean they are rigged to blow ! !!
and the joke is he could even get it auctioned on ebay !!
i saw that video about a month ago !?
!!
I bet he used one of those china 2300mAh batteries...
Often these batteries do not have any fuses or security stuff in them because they just want to produce a cheap product.
It sucks for that guy that his phone exploded and caught fire...glad he's okay.
But the important thing is, anyone else catch those baby blue bed sheets with the bugs on them? Priceless!
i think a lot of the dead touch input problems are related to the phone getting hot,
I recently bought a replacement hd2, cos mine, tho it worked fine, had a cracked screen. I started using my old hd2 just to charge the extra battery i now had, swapping out the batteries once or twice a day, so the old phone, tho it wasn't being used, was plugged in to wall charger most of the time, and within a few days (a week, tops) the screen has gone. No touch input at all. 18 months without a glitch, and bang, gone. So glad i pre-emptively replaced it!
Is it possible for HTC to issue a recall for HD2 owners? Just like Apple did a recall recently with their really old iPod Nano for a new one.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/20/apple-reportedly-swapping-recalled-ipod-nanos-for-six-gen-counte/
That sucks, haha. My battery runs at 31-36 degrees, its quite hot, but I'm not that worried at it running at that heat, don't think it'll catch fire.

I'm afraid you are right, many batteries made in China with that huge a storage is fake and useless. There is a highly risk that it might blow your phone when they got too hot.
Never let your HD2 get too warm, my last one broke because of that.
Exploding fireball HD2s aside...has anyone ever thought of how to disable the heat sensor? Maybe something fun to do on an HD2. That'd be cool!
