Wrong sections, all questions must be in the Q&A section. A little stroll around the general section will give you an overview. Use the search bar and I'm sure you will manage to find something your looking for.

Hey Guys, just rooted my epic and am really enjoying being able to use the root only apps. I was thinking of putting a custom kernel and rom on it maybe. Are there any good instructions for n00bs and also which one would give me better battery life, stability and maybe a speed boost. stable and battery is more important though.
Thanks

There are at least 3 different kernels you can choose from, I personally use MixUp because it is stock and overclocked (speed boost) and seems to work very smooth. I haven't had any noticeable additional battery drain, and quite possibly maybe have seen slightly better battery life.
This is the link for MixUp, as well as follow the OP original directions for flashing the kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786988
You will also want to bring in ClockWork Recovery -- This is what'll you'll need in order to begin flashing custom roms. Here is the link, and again follow the OP's guidelines for installing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782300
This version is a one click method, so it's relatively fool proof. Good-Luck.
hi , plz can u help me to choose the best ROM with the best economic battery level , and 720p camera compatible
i saw many one but i can't choose thx for help i sorry if my english is poor
OP, this question should be asked in Q-A section.
Anyway, stock JVK seems to fit your requirements.
Try drakys rom it has everything u need
Try Darky's 9.5 ROM, it has everything what you need, I like it and use it it is smooth, graphically well designed, comfortable to use and moreover I have a 3 days battery life with NO heavy usage. But anyway it takes 2 days in almost every level of usage. I highly reccomend you to at first flash the ressurection edition via Odin, next flash the 9.5 ! On the Darky's Rom page you'll find a complete guide how to install. Good luck !

darky 9.5
its the best rom(froyo)
Darkys with DamianGTO kernel.

Bit of a mad question to ask as everyone who posts is pretty much guaranteed to recommend the ROM they are running! Based on that theory, I would suggest JVK !

What is the most stable ROM with GingerBread+Sense for X8? Or at least, is there a rom with full functions working?
I use Racht's CM7 Roms. It is stable but quite battery drain.
Thanks. Any more choices? Since this one has some major bugs on Camera, FM etc. Also the X8 battery is really weak...

I'm with shpit's ROM, XGin 5.4

The camera works only in VGA mode but works
I really don't understand what's wrong whit those threads, i mean, if you look in Development forum there are many Custom Roms topics, every chef gave description of what does and doesn't work in theyr roms, there are people that report back issue and not of that roms, so what i'm asking to myself is:
Is it really necessary to open a thread for "what is the most stable rom?".
Am i wrong here?
I know, this is general forums but it doesn't mean that every new user should post here these no sense threads ( no offence here).
Again, am i wrong? Because sometimes i was told that i'm evil to close some kinds of threads.
I know that new users cannot post in dev section but IMO all these questions have an answer only by reading Rom Threads.
I don't want to be "the evil moderator" since that, if i can, i like to be helpful, say that, i can make a sticky thread for a general vision, pro/cons of every x8 roms but someone need to start and take care of it because i don't have an X8.
let me know.

I really like racht's roms, there are less services running in background than others and is a pretty stable rom. I've been using it for weeks and i had no reboots. About the battery drain question, disable the automatic sinc in the options.
its only my opinion... already tried floyo, miniCM and froyobread....
1) floyo is fast but battery drain very fast..
2) the most stable is miniCM.. all is working and suitable for daily use
3) stable rom with gingerbread look...
try all of em yourself and pick what u like....
I believe I've tried all kind of ROMs: 2.2.1, 2.2.9 (?) and 2.3.4. For me kuyaDROID was the fastest and stable 2.3.4. But all 2.3.4 I have tried consumed my battery at most in a day (also kuya's). One version ate my battery in a half of day. So, for the moment, I decided to come back to 2.2.1 (floyo-0.20) which is the fastest (1000+), stable and battery care (more than two days) for me. An advice: you will see here different opinions for the same ROM - so try all for youself, and make your own opinion. Good luck.
Hello everyone, I'm new in here and I'm using Nexus 4..
I really want to flash custom ROM, i need better performance and battery life..
I don't care about features or costumize anything except performance..
So what ROM should I use? And I'm planning to flash custom kernel too. I heared Franco kernel is great..
But besides that, I'm totally noob with root and flashing rom..
Thanks before. Your suggestions really appreciated .
Stock. Simple and no need to flash it over and over again with pretty useless nightlies.

If you want a few basic custom options such as configurable tiles, battery percentage, torch, and a screen-off button to save your physical power button, I would go with Cataclysm ROM. This is stock with those few options added. I feel it's like what Peter Alfonso used to do with Bugless Beast in the past.
I'm waiting for Cataclysm 4.4 which will be out soon now the factory images are released...
Thank you!
But it not satisfied with my battery life. I want to flash custom ROM and kernel because i want to improve my battery life and performance also..
So what should I do?
I heared there's a mod to raise battery life and performance..

Really; try Cataclysm ROM. It has battery saving features such as smart 3G, do a search and read about it in the Forums.
Install stock kitkat 4.4 and enable art
I usually use Primal. But so far Stock 4.4 is as fast maybe even faster. Haven't really got a good battery read on KitKat yet. I would get 5hrs screen time out of Primal. With calls, surfing, txt and camera.
IMO Carbon based ROMS seem to be the best.
@r3act: Thanks! I'll give it a try..
@Goku: I'm sorry, i appreciate your answer, and i don't know about deleted ppost. My bad..
if you're new to the whole flashing thing dont start.... once you start it aint gonna end. i started with my N7 and have flashed waayyyyy too much roms to end up right back at stock 4.4. on my nexus 4 i have not yet flashed any custom roms cause i found that stock rooted roms have the most reliability, stability, better battery life, and most usability from all others.so far with my 4.4 stock i have 12h39min. and 19% left. thats through talking, surfing the web downloading, and playing games. slightly heavy usage today. i think 12 hours is good enough for me. my advice flash 4.4 stock, root it and dont flash custom roms. its fun with all the features but stock is always better. my opinion.
Thanks everyone! I'll consider it..
@podagee: i thought that custom ROM can improve batterylife..
After reading your reply, is root improving battery life? And which root app that you installed?
I think this is what you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47439423&highlight=battery#post47439423
Best battery might be Semaphore kernel + Purity ROM 4.3
Good luck!
root doesnt improve battery life it gives you privileges to all areas of your device. i use mine for removing apps that are built-in the rom, bloatware. the ones you couldnt remove now can be removed when rooted.i usually keep my device simple by removing playbooks, magazines, youtube(replace with ogyoutube) google currents...etc.... anything i dont use. i install cleanmaster,to clean up leftover cache and to free up occasional ram space.
as for rooting the 4.4. follow the guides they have in the Q&A section if you use adb&fastboot.unlock your phone. install your 4.4 stock.flash a custom recovery,i like twrp. then flash superuserv1.65 in custom recovery and your good to go.
There is no certain ROM/Kernel you "should use", your use may vary to someone else or vice-versa so battery life may not be as good for you as it is for someone else. There is no best, head over to the development section and see which best suits your needs.

- Asking for the "best" rom is prohibited on XDA, because no one can answer that question
- Regarding rooting before flashing a custom ROM, it is not mandatory. Some custom is pre-rooted already. Or you can root later.
- If you want to root using CF-Auto-Root, I will show you steps, it's very simple and easy, but it will trip the Knox. If you don't want the Knox to be tripped, search for Towelroot instead.
- As for extending battery life, you can try Lean Kernel (I have not tried it).

Question again do I FLASH Kernel after I FLASH the custom ROM?
Typically the answer is yes, but I'm not too sure. Please follow the instruction for a specific kernel/rom.

I've search for the Lean Kernel and I didn't find any mind giving me a Link where to Download that Kernel.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Sorry I personally use stock firmware so I have no idea on custom rom.

Lean kernel is here.
It's almost "impossible" to recommend a ROM. Everyone's needs/wishes are different. The best - and only sensible, to be honest - advice I or anyone else can give you is to read read and read again all youcan about a ROM, flash it, see if you like it, and repeat as necessary.

The dl links don't show for me from my work pc, but if you're in Europe and you have the 9500 version, I'm 99% sure it's 3.11-hlte-Eur or something similar.
Some custom ROMs may come budled with Lean kernel - not sure, I don't use it any more.
I know you're not asking for advice, but I mean well - as you say, you're new to flashing/ROMs etc. If I were you, I'd get to know whichever ROM you decide on first and its capabilities, especially root. Tweaking kernels would be the last thing I'd want to deal with. Trust me, you'll have more than enough tweaking to keep you happy for days irregardless of what ROM you use
