I just find it comical that the Droid X was hyped up to come with 2.2 and then it launches with 2.1, which wasn't a big deal...
However now as a slap in the face.. The droid1 got froyo... The droid 2 has froyo.. Now the droid incredible also has froyo.. And the X is left alone by itself in 2.1 land.. Any comments?

I'm not really worried about it as I (and probably most of us) already have froyo...even if it isn't OTA
Yeah its more or less just showing where DroidX owners stand on verizons priority list, that's last

hahaha, I agree with you there...
And I agree with the OP.... I think the Droid X should have gotten the update by now also... being the flagship phone and all.
Anyways, we shall wait and see..

My comment is its BS!! i know its potentially just a week or 2 away (maybe) but there is no reason why it should be the last freaken droid to get the update. This is suppose to be the daddy of all phones. If anything it should have been the 1st. Sorry just impatient because i want it but dont want to mess with leaked version that has to be manually installed. Who knows if its even the final version.
I'm going to list the phones in order of release with their Froyo Status.
Droid - Froyo'd first
Droid Incredible - Froyo'd second
Droid X - FroyoLeak, no OTA
Droid 2 - Released Froyo'd
It's only logical that X is last. Of course, it's not Verizon's fault. It's technically Motorola's, as they are the ones providing support for the phones they themselves released... But with the leaked Froyo out, it's only a matter of time before the OTA update's out. Just give it time, ok?

It's most likely Moto's fault. Taking their time, etc. I'm just hopeful they'll release it soon. I'm laying off upgrading to the leak because I did the leak on my eris and got screwed.

+1 as well. Whoever said this means the X is last on VZW's list of importance has no clue...vzw has nothing to do with it. Motorola does.

Ready for update. Will we be able to root the stock 2.2 like what they r doin with the EVO?

It could actually be verizon holding it up. There is a very exhaustive testing process that all phones have to go through to be allowed on the vzw network. Most of the time the long lead is the first time through testing withdrawn updates taking much less testing and therefore much less time. However, if verizon found some issue that they don't want to allow on their network they could require motorola to go back, fix it, and get back in line to get the testing performed. Of course, some times verizon waves their hands let's the phone go through with minimal testing. We really can't know.

Good point. But still..that doesn't portend that the X is low on verizon's priorities..quite the opposite I think.
I think there are tons more droids than droidx phones in use. The lack of flash in the recent froyo release for the droid seemed to have caught more of motorola and verizons attention since they rolled out /are rolling out an update in short order.

Any Cooks/Dev's working on a build of the sdk for the droid/droid2/droidx....?
just curious.
If I have read correctly around the net, I think devs need to wait until Motorola releases their own version of Gingerbread for the D2 and DX since they use Blur. Could be different for the Droid 1 though since its stock.

Exactly the reason why I plan on switching to the samsung fascinate. This locked bootloader mess is making the droid2 root experience suck bad. While other phones get roms as soon as the freakin sdk is released for gingerbread, we are stuck waiting on moto bcuz we are locked down and unable to get ealry gb roms.
via XDA on DROID2
Real funny how you want to switch to a fascinate because of Motorola being slow on rom updates. The sgs fascinate is still in 2.1 eclair bro. If you want most upto date than stay away from Sammy. That's why I'm replacing my fascinate tomorrow.

I just wish motorola would confirm which phones are going to get 2.3. Samsung and lg have announced some phones are going to get it, and I think htc has too I believe. I assume the d2 will get it, I don't know why it wouldn't. I'm just anxious cause of my luck with phones I picked the eris first and of course it didn't see froyo until the devs made it.

Do you really think they might only release it for Global and leave the original D2 in the dust?

I would agree with you normally but this is XDA.. the vast majority of people here are looking to customize their phones, and are not like the general public. I'd rather a fully unlocked bootloader with zero OEM support than lots of OEM support and a completely locked down system. That is one of the main reasons android is so much better than the iphone.. but here i am feeling stupid with locked phone. Although, the most locked down android is nowhere near as restrictive as a fruit device, but stil...
Word on Droid X getting Gingerbread?
Anyone hear anything recently about gingerbread on the droid x...its been rumored for a while now any idea if and when we are supposed to get the update??
I just went around today looking for just that news, and found a few sites over just the past two days.
First, they say VZW has gotten moto's GB build, and that seems to be confirmed over the various sites. Soooo super exciting!
Not so exciting part? The very next day, many of these sites say it was denied, as VZW is wont to do it seems, and we are looking at another 4 weeks or so.
Let's hope for April! I have been waiting to root, but it seems every time I am about to do it, moto comes with the official next version, so I continue waiting!
Ive heard its as far away as 6 weeks but who knows

Sounds like P3Droid got his hands on the final build of GB for the X, D2, and D2G tonight. Also sounds like maybe this weekend/week rollout rumor was correct!
he got his hands on 3.4.2 blur....not gingerbread i am running on my phone right now and if thats all were getting prepare to be disappointed..dont get me wrong there are improvements but not enough to really wow you..everything just runs faster, a couple apps have been edited, and you can have a work, weekend, and home profile kinda like the droid pro..nothing major oh and longer battery life but nothing really excites u that much

It hasn't been released yet, even in the TBH app. Be patient.

Have they been able to root it yet?
Sounds exciting
lol i just bricked my DX thinking about it..time to get my battery charge at VZW..I hope the release is tomorrow, perfect way to end a busy Monday ..
Just curious..in the pictures I see a Froyo kernel, isn't gingerbread suppose to have a more updated kernel? like 2.6.35 or something??
u have to remember this isnt the actual gingerbread its a lkeaed version im sure motorola's final version will have an updated kernal and I really hope they decide to drop the bootlaoder!
lol oh ok... I hope so too..usually these leaks are a sign, never the less it already has a new kernel, but based on 2.2 if I'm correct..
No new bootloader. That would only come from VZW in an official update.zip file.
No root yet for consumer hardware either...we are hoping that getting this out may help find a solution.
i really really want p3droid to release this thing onto TBH!
im here trying to recover my DX via ghetto charging..lol,,dont know if its working..phone still off..anyone kno where i could get some instructions for this?
So I've read that the GB OTA for the DX is live, and it's a newer version than the leaks. I'm assuming the the D2 OTA will be right around the corner, hopefully with some bug fixes. I personally can't wait.
Oh, and TBH confirms that the 2.3.340 SBF for the DX works with the OTA, so the 2.3.20 could possibly work with the D2!
*UPDATE*
So Verizon is saying they have not pushed out an OTA for the Droid X.
Team Black Hat is saying the update was from Motorola.
I don't know who is giving out the update, or how, but its a "silent" update.

Well, there was a GB leak for the D2, which means Verizon and Moto are actually working on it, so I would say we will, and probably very shortly.
i just knew there was a thread going a couple weeks back saying d2 wasnt gonna get it ...i hope we do
The report saying the XD wasn't getting gb was by P3Droid, who later said it was getting it, but thought it wasn't because he was shown all the moto phones getting gb and the XD wasn't one of them, so the XD is definitely getting gb

Yeah, I wouldn't see Verizon and Moto taking the time to make a stable GB update for the D2 (which leaked. It may have had a few bugs, but it was completely stable) and not releasing it. It would be a huge waste of money on their part.
I wouldn't say completely stable. I had a couple random reboots. But it's still less than I had in Liberty 1.5
well if the ota is better than the leak it will be great i have been running the leak and love it
God this stuff just keeps getting more confusing.
Verizon is saying they have not pushed out and ota for the dx.
TBH says it is from Motorola.

Well the HTC EVO 4G received their official OTA yesterday from sprint and we are scheduled to get it by the end of this month as well which means custom gingersense kernels will come soon after. Just putting this out there for people who want to know the news about the update and yes the OTA will break root.
Right on, which also means that the Unrevoked team will have to work on their root exploits AFTER the OTA to once again achieve root. Hopefully it won't be like the last OTA (or 2 OTA's ago?) where it broke root, and there were nothing but threads about not having it...you'd a thought people were going to die, and all they had to do was wait about a week or so.
My question is, can it put you S-ON? Because even the RUU can't do that. So even if you were on a stock rom, with S-OFF, and received the OTA, you could still root through CWM.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
What does that mean for us that are rooted and running custom Rom's? If I were to just let it run the OTA with root and custom Rom? Would it just overwrite the whole phone with new update and replace everything on my phone with updated stock gingerbread/Rom? Or will I need to restore my stock Rom backup and then unroot the phone to s-on and then let it OTA?

yea that sucks
Sure, Sense 1.0 is kinda lame. But its probably for the best. It's definitely lighter on resources, and the phone manual would still apply. Not much of an issue since the Inc isn't shipping anymore. But the EVO is. So they might have had to rewrite some of the manual for sense 2.1. But I think it has more to do with available memory. All these gingersense roms are great, but they sure do use a lot more.

I don't care what people say about Sense 2.1 on the Inc. It's working great for me. The bottom line is that the Inc isn't being made anymore, so there is absolutely NO incentive for HTC to put 2.x Sense on it. If your Inc broke for instance, and you could get an official 2.x Sense'd phone, you'd be more likely to pick up a used Inc as opposed to a newer phone. I've had my Inc going on almost a year, and I can honestly say I don't really need to "upgrade" my phone. I typically upgrade to a newer phone every year..... If I last that long! I had my ATT Fuze (aka HTC Raphael, aka Touch Pro) for like 3 or 4 months before "upgrading". Bottom line is, the Inc is a great phone, it's capable of running Sense 2.x, but HTC wouldn't be doing themselves any good to go through the effort of putting it on the Inc since it's an EOL product.....

No they said by the end of Q2[which is the end of this month]
Does anyone know if the new Gingerbread with Sense running on the EVO has a better email client than the stock GB mail client (which bites)? I use SkyRaider 4 with Sense 2 on the Froyo platform, but MIUI on the GB platform with LauncherPro to make it as Sense-like as possible. Since the GB mail client neglected the 'Search' functionality, I had to buy the Enhanced Mail client (I'm and Exchange user), but there is no scrolling widget for this. A Sense-based GB rom with a Sense-based mail client would solve all my problems. Bottom line, has anyone seen the Sense Mail client on the new GB-based EVO?
