Recently, purchased a Sprint HTC Touch. It has no sim card as far as I can tell. Tried to unlock the unit using two post I read on this forum.
One was using the Qualcomm's QPST method. For some reason Windows wouldn't recognize the unit's drivers when in diagonistic mode. As a result, QPST can't find the phone.
The other method I used was involving Cert_SPCS, EnableRapi, and Touch_Unlock. When notepad popped-up, nothing appeared. No unlock code. Nothing.
Please tell me what it is I'm doing wrong. Also, is it possible to get GPS on my unit? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Hey man,
Welcome.
Sprint and Verizon wireless use CDMA technology for their wireless radio; while AT&T and T-mobile use GSM. CDMA does not use SIM cards, but instead has an embedded serial number to identify the phone to "the carrier" called an ESN (you got it "electronic serial number"). SIM cars are not exactly equal to an ESN, but carriers use the two to identify the subscriber.
What is your goal? The Sprint Touch aka HTC Vogue ("HTC Vogue" = CDMA version of the "HTC Touch") is already application unlocked.
First Attempt At Flashing
After posting, I asked myself that very same thing. Been doing a lot reading of various post and decided flash my rom for GPS/Rev a using what i've learned involving the the work done by ImCoKeMan. Appears to be a safe thing to do as a newbie without seriously damaging my unit. I have the files necessary to do the flash. Will try later in the day when I have time to devote to the process.
Are there any last minute tips I should be aware of before getting started? Every little bit helps.

If you are using Sprint, all you need to do is download and run the ROM found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403016) in Windows XP, or extract the 2.NBH and rename to VOGUIMG.nbh and run it from your FAT32 microSD card (2GB OR LESS, do this by holding down power/camera/soft reset). If on a Mac, do NOT run it in a virtual machine! (Parallels, VMWare)

Agreed, but keep in mind he has to use a windows machine to initially unlock the phone. Preferably a windows xp machine.
Now using a sprint rom, you don't have to unlock the phone, so the above method should work fine and dandy. Make sure you have atleast 50% charge on the battery.
If you want to use a custom ROM, i suggest you unlock the phone using a windows PC. (u only need to unlock once)
First Time Flasher
Thanks for your replies. Believe it or not the responses I've been getting are the answers to the very questions I've been searching the forums for. I've decided to not use a custom rom for now. I'm just going to upgrade my Vogue to Rev. A/ GPS. I am running on Windows XP. That should help.
I was reading ImCoKeMaN's post on PPCGeeks. Step 1 says to download and flash the your carrier's official rom. Then in step 8 download the RUU. So I guess I still need to learn more about flashing the unit as described in step 1. I have the rom to do it with, but hestitant to do it just yet. Am I making too much of this? How do I flash the stock rom onto the unit before proceeding to step 8?
1) Hook up phone.
2) Let activesync/windows mobile device center load.
3) Run ImCokeMan's Unlocker (follow instructions closely... you'll need to stop before the last step).
4) Load the new Sprint ROM (unsure if this ROM has the GPS active).
5) Either stop or load another ROM
To load another ROM, if it comes as only an NBH (basically a rom file), you can download ImCokeMan's RUU (HTC ROM Update Utility)
Custom ROMs really bother me. They're loaded with garbage (which I can load myself thanks ). I just loaded SBR_L3GION's Stock v2 ROM last night. OMJ is another popular ROM "cooker" (I'd load Sprint Clean) (i've sure you've seen "cooking," "kitchen" etc thrown around now, "chef" is also used).
Just a quick note, I load edup TomTom6 (although 7 is leaked, it won't load on the Vogue) and it didn't find the GPS. In order to use the GPS with some programs, you need to "prime" it (wake it up); which you can do with Google Maps or other software (the COM port is 4 and the baud rate of the GPS is 4800; note that the GPS works through the Windows Mobile GPSID). I'm searching right now for a good primer that is a primer only not a full blow program.
Here's what else I've got going:
1) TomTom6
2) Google Maps
3) Pocket Player
4) S2U2
5) Cube Config Tool
I might load NinoGPSPlot, which is pretty cool.
I came across a GPS Primer called AstroGPSLauncher, but it doesn't seem to work for TomTom6. I'm checking out the GPS - How To right now.
[edit]
I found GPSToggle.
bigflavor put it very simply for you! When I first decided to flash I had all sorts of worries, and then when I finished, I thought, man that was simple! So, as a personal suggestion to you, make sure you read so much info you need tylonel!!! For the most part, as long as you follow the steps, you will be good, even if you think you messed up, there is about a 95% chance you can recover. If you have any questions about what your doing, feel free to post, we are all here to help! Trust me, I know it can look confusing at first with all the different terms used.
HTC Touch Sprint for U.S Cellular
I am able to get the spc code by getspc. But how do I load the PRL for U.S Cellular on the HTC Touch? I am new, it took me two days to get the spc.
hey thanks TheChampJT for those encouraging words
I recently purchased a HTC Touch Sprint only for $90 in very clean condition and with some accessories too isn't that a deal to mention....
So now I am in India where CDMA service providers (eg. Reliance, Tata) also have sim cards and handsets without sim cards also.
can you please guide me how could I use this handset (first unlock offcourse) with my service provider.
Thanks
I came off WP7 at the end of last week to try out some new Roms on Android. Before I had absolutely not trouble setting up my phone, I must have done it easy half dozen times in one day alone. over weekend I did a factory reset on my laptop so I downloaded the Windows Phone Development Tools and it installed without problem. I run through the setup as I had many times before, Chevron unlocked but when I tried to sideload the .xap tools needed it failed Toms and with Application Deployment I received this code:
"Receiving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {250BEABB-55E8-43BB-AC97-2D95674ECE14} failed due to the following error:
800 Class not registered (exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))."
I completely removed Windows Phone Development Tools, wiped not needed files, rebooted and reinstalled. I also reinstalled WP7 and tried from the beginning.
I am thinking that maybe Microsoft has put something in the Development tools which will prevent sideloading in WP7.
Is this an error on my part, any help appreciated.
That almost looks more like a .NET 4 error, try re-installing .NET 4 ...
Use the new custom roms. Auto unlocked.
The truth is.... THEY CAN'T STOP US. We represent too much of an investment that they simply can't afford to loose us and loose the DEV community who brings them more and more user and keep them alive!
don't know if this only happened to me,but suddenly my phone tells me for the twitter app that is has been revoked by Microsoft and that I should uninstall it.Did Microsoft somehow load kind of a new update on the phones through Zune? Or has it something to do with the upcoming Nodo?

The phone re-locks every two weeks if I'm not mistaken. Even when it does, it lets you have 3 apps sideloaded.
Just re-unlock with Chevron and you should be good to go. keep in mind that every time you connect the phone to the computer it will re-lock itself.
I think putting in airplane mode solves the re-locking issue for the mean time, but the forums have a more robust method to prevent it from happening in a long-term way.

1. Stock roms. Custom ROMs: DFT+Magldr, mi7rom, CleanDFT
2. Dev unlocking through WindowsBreak project
3. To deploy XAPs you need Winco's mini WP7 SDK and Winco's deployer wXapAssistant
4. Deploy these 2 apps immediately: Samsung tools (to prevent relock) and WP7 Root tools (file explorer, registry editor etc)
I also suggest you read this thread, it's a bit oudated but it contains all the needed tools today.
This is what you need to start with, good luck!
Nice, concise post, EnderPsp.

Is there any step by step guide for first time flashing? It seems I am stuck with a ver1.3 demo mode phone and need to flash it to fix it. Any help and advise is highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks! This steps seem simple enough for me to follow.
I am in a dilemma, help me out guys. I bought a used phone for $90 and its in a pretty good condition overall except for the demo mode issue. I have the option of opting for a replacement, but I am not sure whether the replacement would be as good as this one.
The phone is scratch-less and cosmetically in pretty good shape. I also checked the diagnostic menu and there was no issue found to my noobie eyes. The usual burn in problem with demo units is also not present. I could not check the calling features as its in demo mode. Is there anything else I should look for?
So what should I do? Keep this and flash with a stock ROM (which I am sure inputs by you all will definitely get me through) or I should just go ahead and take a replacement?
EDIT: Any inputs guys???

So I have decided to keep this phone and flash it to a stock ROM.
I was going through the posts referred by you (very helpful) and can figure that the bootloader is working fine. Will start the flashing when I get home from work.
One of the points mentioned in the tutorial says that the battery should be 80% charged before starting with the flashing process - which makes sense. BUT, I am having some issues here. The demo mode seems to be a battery hog, so even if I have plugged the phone to the charger, the battery is getting charged really slow (probably the battery is bad as well). Its been a few hours since I have plugged it in and its still probably at 20% and the phone is getting pretty warm at the back and the front. Is this going to be a problem???

Flashing implies some risk, so having more battery definitely helps. By my experience, 40% is enough but I recommended 80% for the general case (to cover all possibilities). But considering your battery is slow charging, I would do 2 things to charge faster:
- set airplane mode
- turn screen off
So when you reach 40% you should be fine for flashing stock ROM. But I don't know all the particular details so you need to consider all. Normally, flashing a stock ROM takes about 10 mins, so it doesn't require a lot of battery.
And just to be clear, for demo phones I first recommend you return the phone, since these aren't normally sold to users. But that is your choice and again, I don't know all the particularities (for demo phones) or even if flashing a stock rom actually works, for that matter.

SUCCESS!!! Thank you guys!
All the posts were really helpful. Now I can confirm that the demo version phones can be fixed by this method!
Registry Editor
Guys, I see a lot posts about editing the registry entries to tweak stuff. I need to change my default live ID and found a suggested way to change that through registry edit. BUT how do I do it? I am not having enough posts, so cant post in the dev threads.
My bad, the answer was right in this thread! I gotta windowbreak and then install WP7Roottools to edit the registry!

Kill every program you've opened. Skype messes up the connection. If you're able to sync in Zune, it should work. Also
- don't close Zune while you do that
- make sure you're synced fully in Zune, not in Guest mode

That's good, you don't have KK2 and if Root Tools works, it's a problem with your PC, your phone is fine! Make sure you close all programs that may use https connection. I also recommend the reading here (pasting some relevant bits):
Steps for unlocking:
...
6. Open TCPView. (tcpview.exe inside of the downloaded archive) Click on the heading marked "Local Port" until the arrow next to it is pointing up.
7. Look on the Local Port column for any entries labeled "HTTPS". These programs MUST be closed for Chevron to work properly. Common culprits are Skype, and XAMPP. Use Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+Delete) to ensure they are closed if you run into issues.

Sorry, i'll try to be more specific. I previously owned a HD7 but i change it for a Focus, 'cause i wanst gettin' access to the 3g network on my country out of it. So now i got the Focus and i was tryin' to unlockin' it, what i did, usin' the WindowBreakMe method and also i installed magdlr on the phone. I was looking for sideload apps to try on my phone, thats what i meant in first place, thanks to the post on your sig and endlessly searching i've found Bazaar and i've installed it on my phone, but now when i download any app from Bazaar, it gives me an error, that go as follows "Bazaar can't install applications on your device. It seems that is not fully unlocked. To deploy applications you should download Bazaar for PC. Read more at www.WP-Bazaaar.com".
Im sure my device is fully unlocked, i've installed Samsung Root Tools and DiagProvXML and enabled internet sharing and the 3g switch, and many more. Do you think my device relocked itself even i got the checkmark "Prevent Device Relocking" checked at Samsung Tools. Help, please.

Specific enough, I'd say
If you've already deployed WP7 Root Tools and Samsung Tools, you can always re-run the unlock sequence (in Root Tools first and then ST). Just to keep in mind Do not remove these 2 apps from the phone to test sideloading, once unlocked!
I'm not familiar with Bazaar but it seems you're missing a PC component used in the deployment process?
As for deploying, choose a XAP from the development forum and try to deploy it. If you can, it means you're unlocked (evidently).
If you can't deploy, try WINCO's XAP Assistant.
Let us know how it goes.
With many thanks to @TaylorofCanada for acquiring and sharing this ROM, I would like to share with you a method to downgrade a Samsung ATIV SE to Windows Phone 8.0 GDR3. This method can be used to completely remove the Preview for Developers configuration from your device. This method wipes all of your data, and you cannot restore 8.1 backups on 8.0; if you are not experiencing significant issues with the current preview release, it may be ideal to wait patiently until another PFD update is pushed to this device. Another reason to flash 8.0 would be to take the OTA updates to 8.1 when they are released, in the event that the updates (or at least the firmware update) are not initially available to users with PFD installed (and you grow impatient). I have compiled a .zip file which contains everything that is necessary for downgrading your device. The .zip contains a README.txt file which contains detailed instructions on following the correct process; read it carefully and completely before attempting to follow.
If this method has brought you enough relief to feel like making a donation, I would suggest you donate to @TaylorofCanada. Without his release, this would not be possible, especially with such ease:

[URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/development/taylors-super-rom-tool-dump-sgh-t899m-t3037789"]Taylor's Super ROM and Tool Dump![/URL]
I have created a thread for discussion of development with this device, so if you have an ATIV SE and you're into this kind of stuff, take a gander over yonder:
Code:
[URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/development/research-reference-samsung-ativ-se-sm-t3044123"]Samsung ATIV SE (SM-W750V) - Research and Development Hub[/URL]
Please understand that following this tutorial may permanently brick your device or make it unusable in another way, even if you follow it correctly. It probably voids your warranty, as well. If this concerns you and/or you do not have a second device to use in the event of a mishap, I would suggest closing this page now. Following this process is of your own accord, and I will not be held responsible for any form of damage, losses, or anything else you may experience from proceeding. This phone has limited availability due to its Verizon-exclusive release, and as a result, there is minimal public research and development for it. I cannot guarantee that there will ever be a consumer-friendly way to de-brick your device in the future other than this, which can only do so much, so please proceed with caution:

MMS/Internet sharing (haven't tested, I'm on VZW): http://forums.windowscentral.com/samsung-ativ-se/339425-6.htm#post3309723
Upgrade to Windows 10 (this is partially incorrect; once at Windows 10 you can and should do a Hard Reset): http://forums.windowscentral.com/sa...rading-samsung-ativ-se-windows-10-mobile.html

Any chance of being able to flush the ativ se with the ativ s ROM? I am in UK, want to buy the ativ se from USA but if its not working correctly or something it would be nice to know that I could use the ativ s rom UK and be done with it.
I already own the ativ s its been 3 years now, but its time to let it rest, plus I cracked the screen.
Thanks in advance people and thanks for the hard work on setting ROMs and everything.
Also a quick one. Is Samsung backing away from the ativ phones? I love windows phones but Microsoft etc are not quite the same as my trustworthy ativ s. Screen is not gorilla so it feels cheap etc.

No, it won't run a rom for a different device. Why do you need it to run an Ativ S rom? If the problem is setting it up for a different carrier, you can adjust that through the registry, as long as the phone's hardware supports your carrier.

Is not only the carrier i am worried. So since my Ativ S works perfectly fine (to what i need it to do) i thought if something goes wrong with the SE i could use the S ROM and be fine.
Oh well. i guess we will see???
I am using Ativ SE in India (got it from US) and it works flawlessly.. I am sure it would work on any GSM without any issues.. Worst case you may have some challenges in setting up APN but for that you don't need to port Ativ S ROM.. There are multiple tweaks which will take care of such issues
