From what I read AT&T pulled the update because it had "Problems". So ATM there's no OTA.

Starting at the MF3 point in this thread helped me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526964
The OP has a link to download the update and side load it. I was able to install off my sd card through stock recovery. I detailed somewhere towards the end of the thread how I did it. It was off topic however. Feel free to ask questions. I will try to consolidate a good how to a little later tonight.

Raidel00 has a thread opened up for mf3 to mj9. I don't know how successful his thread has been since I used the other method (link) you posted and it worked fine for me. But don't you just have to side load it through adb or through SD card? Since your on mf3 you dont have to download the mf3 partial file that I had to download since I was on mj6 correct?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
This is correct. Just download the update file, rename to a zip and side load through adb or use recovery to install.

About to try this with my ATT S4 with MF3 and report.
If you do have troubles still when your phone boots and you are rooted use a file explorer to look at the log files in /cache/recovery to see where it failed.
This is how I installed my MJ9. I had a modified feature.xml file.

Choose only one. ... If u use 4 files then u need to place it according to image on post #2...... Each file goes to each Odin slot. ...... but if u choose all in one file then only place it on PDA slot from Odin. The others separate files from post#3 use it only if you soft bricked and want to replace certain file ( recovery, boot or modem). Both 4 files and all in one files would wipe your data and apps..... It would take you straight to stock MK2 firmware.

MK2 being 4.3? it seems to me, the easiest riute is the all in one, although it is huge..i can always delete it after use of course.
from what i understand, even after a wipe, i can reinstall titanium backup and get all my data and apps back or is there a better way? member, dumber here...
and, stock MK2... is there a link to rooting this after i do the upgrade ? i like a rooted phone..i unlocked the bootloader on my atrix , i guess more as an act of defiance than knowing wtf i was doing...
so now with my S4, i hope to resolve the freeze and wi-fi issues...i had no such problems with my S3..and of course i want to attain root.
thanks!

I have owned samsung phones since the original s1 and it's always been easy to flash a stock rom using odin.whenever I had a problem with my current rom or soft bricked I just downloaded the tar odin file flashed pda in odin and went back to 100% stock. But I cannot for the love of God seem to find this easy on at&t s4. A buddy gave me his s4 to update it to latest 4.3 but cannot find any odin tars for any of the 4.3 updates..and when I find it why is it split up by recovery/bootloader etc? So my question is how do i go from 4.2.2 to 4.3 using odin, because he cannot do it via kies or ota

There is no 4.3. First off, if he's on MDL then you should root and get recovery and use the StockUp ROM, because that way he'll get 4.3 MK2 but also be able to change ROMs to something like Cyanogemnod. If he already has MF3 then there's a nice clear thread with "UPDATE.ZIP" in the title you can find in the general section with all the information you should need.

what do you mean there's no 4.3, you mean an odin image of 4.3?? thats what I meant why is it that on my t-mobile s4 they have the complete image of the stock rom, is it because att version has a locked bootloader?? I never had to mess with update.zip files ever on a samsung phone, excuse my ignorance.

I know where to look now thanks, my originally question is why we even have to bother with update.zip instead of just flashing 1 odin file that has complete stock rom like in all other samsung phones.

Locked bootloader. There is tons of informative threads about it in the general, q&a, development, original development. and developer's only sub-forums.

Yes, i meant no ODIN image. There's a locked bootloader and they're trying so hard to keep us from modifying it they make it so you can only get repairs through the Samsung centers and such where they check if you tried to mod it and are supposed to not do anything to help you if you did. As scott said, you can find plenty more information around and probably better explanations than my theories.
I think the last full stock rom was I337UCUAMDL or just MDL. Since then though, each update has been just merely that, an update or patch. So there isnt a full rom of 4.3 MK2. Your best bet, which i just did yesterday, is to use Ted77USA's thread on the bricked MK2, third post in his thread. Follow this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573080&nocache=1 Again pay attention to it all. Worked out very well for me and my issue. Sure it should be as easy for you.

Sounds like you are not completely stock, the error shows it found modded files in your system partition. Odin the full mk2 tar file first and try again.

I was hoping to avoid doing the full flash again. I have seen some threads of some Nexus 7 members flashing the required files they were so kindly provided so they can move forward to the 4.4.2 update similar to my situation. If I can't then I guess I will have to suck it up and erase her info and start over.

You don't have to erase her info, just flash the mk2 tar file and then install the update. No data wipe required.

This forum is for the Sprint Galaxy S4, and it seems you have the T-Mobile device. Here's a link to the tmobile forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile
MK2 is the version number that is specific to Sprint. T-Mobile may have the same number or not. But all you need to do is download the .tar file for the latest 4.3 ROM that is available for your phone, put the phone in download mode, and flash via the ODIN utility that you can download as well. This is not a complete guide, so see the relevant threads in the TM forum. Alternatively, there may be a T-Mobile .tar for 4.4.2 that you can ODIN directly. It is up to you to see if it wipes data or not. The one for Sprint does.
Hey guys, I'm kind of new to android and custom ROMs as I just switched back to android last week. I looked some things up already, but I'm still pretty confused about working out ROMs on my Galaxy S4.
So this is some information that I got from looking stuff up and just wanted to confirm.
1) My phone is on MK2
2) Rooting is possible (I rooted my phone), but you can't download most ROMs
3) There is no way to change from MK2?
4) Only TouchWiz ROMs will work on my phone
5) Clockwork Recovery and TWRP doesn't work, only SafeStrap
I want to confirm these as I want to install CyanogenMod 11 on my phone.
Half of these questions are probably out there, but I'm new to this all and just want to confirm everything. Thank you for your time.

Hello,
2) Rooting is possible (I rooted my phone), but you can't download most ROMs .. not true... you need to use safestrap recovery. There are close to 30 roms you can install.
3) There is no way to change from MK2?... Nope. can't go back.
4) Only TouchWiz ROMs will work on my phone.. correct. only touchwiz 4.3 roms
5) Clockwork Recovery and TWRP doesn't work, only SafeStrap... correct.

That's the worst one you could have flashed, it contains new bootloader. I have not kept up there and you should go back read entire thread.
Also, just FYI read OP and first and last pages of rom threads before flashing unless you are already familiar with rom. Saves a lot of headaches--
But, again NO 4.4--hope you get it sorted. If I run across anything, will post

I just followed the recovery process in this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621279
However, although it is working, there are some things I found.
1) This process will reinstall all bloatware (which isn't really a problem unless maybe the reinstalled bloatware takes up too much space)
2) My phone lags a bit and constantly pops a message saying that the Samsung Keyboard stop working, which makes going into apps and such very difficult. (EDIT: Fixing this is just changing the default keyboard. Will try reinstalling it to see what happens)
3) You lose root

1.Turn your phone off......go to stock recovery .... hold (VolUp+home+power) together......When u feel vibration only let go power button while still holding both key until u see samsung splash screen and blue tiny rebooting recovery text on the top left and u can let go both key......it should take u to stock recovery and then select full wipe/factory reset....do it couples time just to make sure everything is out and u get clean start stock MK2...... Goodluck. ...:thumbup:
2.Root your phone using Saferoot method .....check the link from MK2 INDEX and ROM LISTS thread by @guut13 that I posted earlier .....install Titanium Backup from Play store and uninstall any bloatware that u don't like...... Goodluck. ....:thumbup:
3. If you ever lose root. ... flash the SuperSu.apk fix that I posted for all three Roms SuperSU.APK FIXED

Great. If you are up on Safestrap and full wipe and flash an appropriate 4. 3 rom, the issues may dissappear.

Also, I am not up SafeStrap. But, if you can wipe caches and fix permissions thru it, that may help.

The OP can't run cm roms--
Okay so I've had this phone for about 5 months now and it was great and working fine but now when I try to make calls the phone will freeze and I have to take out the battery. Every time I do that the first few calls works just fine but then I go to call and it freezes also when people try to call me it says my phone is off pretty much straight to voice mail. Not sure if it's the phone or the SIM but most likely it's the SIM and I plan on getting a new one tomorrow anyway just thought I'd add that tiny issue. Now, I am trying to update it to 4.4.2, these are the current phone specs:
Baseband version - I337UCUAMF3
Kernel version - 3.4.0-812098 [email protected] #1
Build number - JDQ39.I337UCUAMF3
So I wiped and reset my phone and tried to install an update via recovery but it says error and fails, same with Odin, I downloaded I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_I337UCUAMDL_HOME.tar.md5 from Sammobile which is 4.4.2 trying to install and it fails almost instantly on Odin, I'm not too good with this I just want my phone working again and if possible with 4.4.2 any tips and help please and thanks, oh and also when I boot into recovery mode the little guy shows a red X and says NO COMMAND and when trying to wipe cache or do anything it says ERROR, any help much appreciated, if you need any more info please let me know I will reply tomorrow when I wake up, good night all and thanks to who ever tries to help

Okay thanks I'll try the first one and see if it works.
Hey @ted77usa I was just wondering, what is Safestrap used for exactly? Do I need it?
EDIT: Okay so I just installed the first link you gave me on my phone and when the phone reboots it says "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help."

Just go back, read it all, and try again. It will still let you flash it. Safestrap is a custom recovery that can be used on locked bootloaders, but only to flash other Touchwiz ROMs in our case. No AOSP like Cyanogen, Paranoid Android, AOKP, etc

Which steps though? There's different ones in the posts below. If you're using the ones in the first post then that's only for people already on NB1.

Okay so I just installed I337MK2_Full_Odin_Tar.tar.md5 and it worked so then I installed AP_I337UCUEMK2_1921628_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 with JFLTE_USA_ATT_16G.pit and that too worked, but Samsung speech to text and samsung keyboard are giving an error message every second?
Everything is working fine I just changed my keyboard to another that I use but the version says 4.3? I thought I was installing 4.4.2?

MK2 is 4.3, NB1 is 4.4.2. What i recommend you do is reflash the full odin tar to fix the errors and then you can follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2680868
That will let you get a rooted 4.4.2 ROM. For a list of all working ones, check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51130834&postcount=3
There's even a stock NB1 ROM with root on there, but you can try out all the others also.
