Under Settings > System
TIP #1 - Go to Theme > Select a darker color as lighter colors tend to use more power.
TIP #2 - If you have a data plan/service > Turn off airplane mode, Turn off Wi-Fi Mode, Turn off Bluetooth
TIP #3 - Email & Accounts - All the emails you have configures - Under "Download new content" > Select "manually"
(You really don't need to get your emails synchronizing based on a time. If at anytime you want to check you email > Press and hold the top of the screen and select > Sync). Synchronize your mail manually.
TIP #3 - Lock & Wallpaper - Make sure your custom wallpaper is dark in color scheme
TIP #4 - Screen time-out - Make it 30seconds (If you're really not touching anything on your phone for 30seconds, it shouldn't be showing anything right)
TIP #5 - Location - Turn off
TIP #6 - Find my phone - Uncheck "Save my location periodically for better mapping" (Also uncheck "Get results faster")
TIP #7 - Phone Updates - Uncheck "Notify me when new updates are found" (Also uncheck "Use my cellular data connection to check for updates")
Under Settings > Applications
TIP #8 - Games > Connect to Xbox LIVE - You can set this to off if your not always playing app games
TIP #9 - Pictures + Camera - Turn off "Auto upload to Skydrive"
Under the Live Tiles Screen
TIP #10 - Facebook (Make sure you log out everytime you are done).

Note: What many people do not realize is that the battery drain might be a human result. Its an exciting new operating system, and many of you are probably playing with it more than usual. I know I am looking at my phone much more than when I had an everyday winmo 6.5
After you get used to it and start treating it like a normal phone, you will notice the battery use start to mellow. Think of it as a new toy that you play with all the time and eventually it gets old and less rapid use.

Changed the radio to 2.14 and after whole day and night my battery barely moved. I have to admit though that I made maybe 3 calls and sent 1 message in that time, still it is very impressive - phone after 19 hours is still running, and has still about 70% of battery.

Can anyone confirm that the 2.14 radio is optimal for battery life?
What about black vs white backgrounds?
Not works for HD2 port. Battery still leaking very fast. (~24h in standby, 10 minutes in game...).
Already did every of these things... Even if nobody have Amoled screen on there HD2. Still can't make it through a day...
reducing drain...
my hd2 on wp7 lasted 3 days, due to roaming issues..
had data off, 3g off, synch off, no wifi..
but full 3 days, no gaming also, just some sms and phone calls.
looks like normal bat.-draining to me, like on Android or wm6.5 nothing one should wonder about

Really? As I said before, no more than 24 h in sleep mode, and battery is almost dead! Many people are confirmed battery issue.
Check out Screebl from the Market.
Awesome at extending the battery life.
Really Such a nice operating system. But With Few problems on HD2.
1. Really getting hot on lower part of phone after 1/2 hour straight use.
2. Battery charging takes more then 3 hours.
3. Battery drains very fast even in stand by (24 hrs stand by(with 3G on,low brightness,no email,no gps),~30 hrs stand by with out 3G, 12 hours with some use and two email accounts with 3G)
Looking forward for some fixes in next gen WP7.
yeah battery drain for me is pretty quickly.... but I'm pretty sure it's because it constantly restarts it-self... When I solve it I'll see the real battery life.

Are you kidding? All that stuff is already off. Why you still trying to refuse that batt problem exists?
Because it doesn't! My HD2 lasts a whole 2 days on one charge. I also conditioned the battery - full discharge, turn off, charge fully while OFF, boot. That helped with the battery meter, which was a bit off previously. Other than that, i have all kind of sync settings on, two email accts, connected to live/xbox live, auto brightness and i absolutely don't see battery drainage that's heavier than it was in WM6.5!
Maybe radio 2.15 isn't working well on your operator? That can cause drainage, too. Do you have WIFI disabled when no WIFI is used? WIFI tends to drain battery heavily.
same problem excesive battery drain with wph7 on hd2.
with wm 6.5 , 3 days as normal usage.
with wph7 , no wifi , no 3g , no bluethoot , no data conection , no sync , no mail , ubication disabled , maps ubication disabled , xbox conection disabled , no callings , only in sleep mode , less than 18h. , yes it's a problem.
This is really strange, because my battery lasts about 2 days, including all data on and using it as normal phone - live account is disabled. So I`m very pleased with it, do you guys with lots of drainage have any other apps like HTC Hub running?

My radio is 2.15, working in 2g network. Wifi always off. Yesterday evening I charged battery, now it is empty. During this time phone was untouched.
Could you tell me is your phone getting warm after using for a while (not game or long talking)?

Not sure if im the only one experiencing this issue but i think that the battery dies entirely too quickly!!! Being that i have a launch day batch i'm not sure that everyone is experiencing this issue! IT seems like the LESS i use the phone the faster it dies, i know totally contradictory but thats what it seems like any ideas, known tweeks. Let me know
There are a few ways to fix this. Most can be found through a quick search. Trying a task killer, adjusting settings and rooting/flashing a new ROM are some ways to fix that issue.

Nope haven't had this issue, had mine since launch. If its really an issue for you, buy a new battery and if that doesnt work there are other fixes around this forum that you can try
turn off background data
adjust settings so that things aren't syncing as often
turn backlight from 'auto brightness' to a low setting
turn wifi sleep setting to 'never'
turn off bluetooth, location settings also
i had mine off the charger for 16 hours still had over 80%

well, tbh, most of it was in standby. short phone call, some texts, that's about it. it wasn't as if i was putting the phone through the ringer
See if there is a difference between weekdays and weekends.
I do have the same short battery life and my battery will die around 6pm on weekdays if I don't charge it during the day.
However, my evo was able to last all day this last weekend.
The only reason I can think of is that I have weak reception where I work and the phone is probably using full power to keep that connection. Hence the massive battery drain.
If your signal is bad, your battery will die very fast. I work in a giant metal box of a store with a constant 1 bar. My battery drains like crazy. If I disable mobile network it increases ALOT.
Make sure you have the updated radio and there are plenty of battery fixing threads. Custom rom will help a lot as will removing the bloat.
I can cosign on this issue. Last night I had the phone on the charger. I unplugged it because it was fully charged and I don't like keeping my things plugged in all night. I wake up this morning and reach for my phone and it's practially like 25% battery life. It was on standby and I didn't set up Friendstream, Auto Syning, etc. I have everything on my phone set to manual.
interesting thing i just noticed on my battery; i just fully charged to 100% (using battery indicator); i left it on the charge for another 5-10 minutes, then unplugged it
literally couple of minutes later, battery shows 95%; not sure why it's doing that since i don't have any apps running in the background and my signal is fine; after it got to 95%, it seems to start draining normally
this is the 1st time i noticed it; the previous time, it drained normally (100 > 99 > 98 >etc.)
You know why its hard to nail this down?
Its because people say
"i took my phone off the charger and in 4 hours of stand by its now at x%"and that's pretty much it.
Some facts:
Without knowing your db we don't know what kind of signal you have.
All task managers are NOT created equally. Just because the free one you got says there isn't anything running doesn't mean that its not still on in the background. If you are running sub 175mb in free ram then you have stuff running that doesn't need to be. Find a different task manager
If you root the device and download one if the many custom ROMS. Remove all the stuff you do not use. Your baster life will go through the rood. Gsd and other crap that does nothing are huge battery hogs.
If you can't be bothered into doing the above then you aren't going to find any answers. Either but an extra charger or return it. You can fix it but its going to taker you doing something.

See this is what I'm Talking about, I'll take my phone of the charger in the morning and by the time i get to work 15 minutes later! My phone is like at 70% Without me even touching it, Waking it up. And go to bed and the device by 60% .. .. .. Thanks GOD
But why should others suffer???
Reason - the service provider device FastDormancy . The aim is to ease the pressure on mobile networks and ease the pressure on the phone (battery), but the networks that support that feature are few worldwide , therefore the device remains in search mode for the service - high temperature and battery drain !!
Solution:
Use the phone and call

Oh good. Another battery life post.
thanks ill give this ago, although i dont really have any battery drain if i can have more then ill be even happier
Vodafone and t-mobile in Holland support fast dormancy, so for people on those networks this might not be a good idea.
If - for any reasion - disabling Fast Dormancy did not do any good to your SGS2 , then you can change the file that in turn is Ptbtii the dormancy and thus reduce the pressure on the battery .
just another way required rooted device
- unzip att. file to UR device
- using Root Explorer
- move the file to :PHP
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/

It might be another battery post but as its been posted before Fast Dormancy may help some .

I'm sorry, but SCREEN should be on top! That is the biggest drain on this device and any other touch screen. I don't get any "drain". At 3 AM this morning I woke up, unplugged my phone which was on wifi and had cell coverage, and checked my messages and went back to bed. At 8:00 I woke up and it was still at 100%. I don't have any drainage going on. Now, while USING my phone, my screen rockets up to 40-60% of the reason why it's discharging. So.... THAT'S normal. Your display is UNDER 20% ... You aren't really using it that much then, are you? Post a screen shot of that usage hehe.

I said in tittle : let's think quietly
when I go in picnic .. countryside , the signal was week .. that cused my device NS to serch for signal most of time , and thus decreased the battery life .
It really depends what provider you are using and in which area... for me it doesn't result in better battery life (Vodafone).
i.e. disabling HSDPA with *#301279# brought for me much more battery life in 3G...
Ffs man, you couldnt find another battery thread to post this in? Really? How exactly is it 'sooooo' different?

I agree, display should be on top. 10% display means you've had the display on for 15 minutes MAX over those 4 or 5 hours. Display is normally on top for moderate usage - heavy usage and it will make up 80 percent battery drain. The problem with battery drain is that its subjective. Heavy usage to one is moderate usage to another. I would consider the usage in OP very light
If turning fast dormancy helps though, I guess it could help a few.

Yes, but that wouldn't change how much your screen uses. He has read the forum since posting and hasn't posted a screen shot. I unplugged my phone 30 minutes ago, and my phone is at 80% screen usage as no other things are being used. For the screen to be at 19%... Well, it must be to turn it on, check the clock and then off again! Regardless of Fast Dormancy helping or not, it WON'T affect your screen on time, or how much you phone uses during use. I imagine to this person standby time is more important than on time. I prefer to get 1 full day of screen usage, than 3 days of standby as I charge the thing every night regardless.
Still didn't work for me. Android system is eating up all the power.

Guys is my battery backup ok? I have turned OFF Active sync, GPS is off, GPRS is off, and now I have also disabled 'Fast dormancy', though I don't know if my network supports it or not. I also have installed Set CPU and its on Ondemand profile. Brightness is Auto always. Now what I mainly do is I browse a lot. Today I noticed that on Wifi with stock browser the battery is decreasing at a rate of 1% in every 3-4 mins. That means after half an hour browsing battery will decrease around 7-8%. I am on stock XWKE8. Is this battery backup/draining normal or high?
Thanks in advance.
Ok... my list goes like:
Display 80%
Opera 6 %
System 3%
Core 2%
App 2%
App 2%
App 1%
...
skipped alot, but my screen uses the most, no matter what, i tuned everything, no matter if fastdormancy is enabled or not.
No more then 5h active usage.
The only theory left, is that we have a little different display. Mine is super amoled + for sure, no probs, color looks amazing.
But try to set the display on 25% brightness, this will give you like a half hour more. not 10% not 50%, 25%! there is a thread about that, search!
Hey,
I know there are a lot of threads about this topic, and I've read a lot of them on my quest to improve my batterylife. I've come from 4-5% usage in sleep down to 2%, but i still think its to much, and could use some assistance.
Like I said, I read a lot of threads discussing this matter but I would like for someone with a little more experience to take a look at the data and tell me what you think.
so here are some screenshots which I dont understand completely.
So what I dont understand is, cpuspy says, 84% of the time my phone was in deep sleep, but the batteryuseage shows something completly different. it shows the phone has been awake almost the whole time.
but if i'm reading BBS correctly there are no mayor wakelocks occurring.
i looked at my battery before i went to bed last night. it was at 59%. exactly 10 hours later when i woke up, it was at 40%. that means it lost almost 2% an hour when i didnt touch the phone once.
so i know stuff like BLN sucks juice, but i havent gotten a notification last night, and i set a schedule for BLN to turn off turing sleeping hours. and it only blinks for 10 minutes after a new notification has arrived and then stops.
i undervolted the CPU a bit (75mV on every speed).
i calibrated the battery (drained completely, removed for 2 minutes, charged to full while phone was off, at 100% removed it again for 2 minutes, put it back in and booted phone)
i wiped the battery stats
turned off a bunch of stuff, like autoupdate on market and other tips i found here on the forum.
wifi sleep policy is set to when screen turns off (btw. sometimes i doenst reconnect after the phone wakes from sleep, anyone got an idea how to fix that?
i'm running galnet miui with the siyahs 2.3 kernel and the KI4 modem.
now the question is, where does that leave me? what am i missing here?
For one day see what your battery life is like when you COMPLETELY disable BLN. Titanium freeze it or uninstall it. Second screenshot, what is that Imapfolders things? It has a high count (I see 1200), maybe try disabling that for a day just to make sure its not an app acting rogue. Another thing, have you disabled samsung bloatware (IM app, social hub, game hub etc).
Most of your wakelocks are radio related. When the phone gets a data request and wakes up to handle it.
I suspect its the K9 push email account that is doing it - anyway to change that?
adding on these questions that i also faced by the thread starter, how does this affect:
AlarmManager
Android System
40s(40s) Count 2336 0.1%
i believe this might be the contributor to the constant phone wakes?

would forwarding my mail to gmail and then getting it pushed from there be better?
from what I've seen on here gmail causes bigger wakelocks. most people recommend using K9. Maybe try a different rom? sounds like a big move however I do know that when running the hyperdroid rom for example most people get amazing battery life. Seen a few nice battery reports with checkrom also
I can confirm battery life on Check Rom coupled with Siyah 2.3 is excellent.
I might be stating the obvious to the OP but have you frozen most of the bloatware in Titanium Backup, ever since i done this battery life has improved substantially.
Also go into Wi-Fi settings > Wi-Fi sleep policy and ensure it is unticked, choose one of the other 2 options
In location and security untick Use GPS Satellites as this will use up lots of battery when it's ticked.
In the Privacy tab untick back up my data as this too will cause battery drainage.
Lots and lots more battery saving ideas, search and you'll find them
well i really like miui so i dont think i'll switch just yet. i'll leave that as a last resort.
i see my mistake here, i should rather be looking at the wakelock count rather than the time correct? K-9 sure as hell has a lot of wakelocks. (counting all wakelocks mentioning K-9, i get more than 8000)
the problem is, my email provider doesnt support push, only imap idle, that must be the reason why its wakeing the phone up so often. although i didnt get any mail last night...
from my understanding push services work a little different, since the app using it doesnt have to be connected the whole time. it gets woken up when the server sends a new message.
i deleted k-9 for now, and i'll see how that reflects on my battery life.
would maybe polling mail every hour be better than using imap idle?
work related i really need a way to get my mail frequently.

I might be stating the obvious to the OP but have you frozen most of the bloatware in Titanium Backup, ever since i done this battery life has improved substantially.
Also go into Wi-Fi settings > Wi-Fi sleep policy and ensure it is unticked, choose one of the other 2 options or none at all.
In location and security untick Use GPS Satellites as this will use up lots of battery when it's ticked.
In the Privacy tab untick back up my data as this too will cause battery drainage.

have done all of that already, like i said, i've read a lot on the forums (cause i myself hate ppl asking the obvious they could've found out by using search for 2 minutes) but thanks for the tips.
only thing i'm not so sure about is the bloatware. since i dont think miui has a lot of that. but i'll look into that.
thanks for all the help so far.
i'll try to look at wakelock count more than on time.
one really anoying thing is BBS force closes A LOT on miui rom. at least i think its rom related, since i didnt have these problems with the other roms i tested since i got the phone.
Hey Phoboss,
please consider the rom is almost non relevant (except eye candy) to battery drain, the kernel makes the difference! I was on Siyah until three days ago with a consumption of 10% in 8 hours during normal usage of the phone, but then i found this Thread, give it a try (i use extreme edition w/o ans probs) forget about setcpu, if the kernel was compiled right, u dont need it!
Furthermore, why do you replicate so many folders in K9, from my POV the Inbox should be sufficient, but I dont know ur provider, push works fine with GMX, even on a freemail acount
If you want to try more, freeze the Calendar App and choose an alternative, from what I have heard, this helps to get rid of most of alarmmanager wakelogs (to be confirmed).
BTW, im on 75% Battery left right now after 20! hours on Battery with moderate usage (some WIFI, lots of XDA App , some calls and browsing, most on 3G which is always on)

Does your carrier support Fast Dormancy? Because you can turn that off as well to save a few % batterly life if it's not supported. There's usually a phone/model specific code you can type into the dial pad to switch it on/off (I can't remember off the top of my head what the code is but if you search around you'll find it for the SGS2).
Thanks for the tips, I'll look into that.
Here's a little update from last night. Was sleeping for pretty much exactly 8 hours and lost 8% battery in that time. So I came down from 2% an hour to 1%. Still think that's to much though.
The thing is, in the 40 minutes I'm awake now, I've been using tapatalk and surfed the web and I lost another 5% in that time.
This can't be normal can it?
Battery usage is still showing that the phone has been awake the whole night. As you can see on the screenshot below, between 0:00 and 8:00 I was asleep, screen and WiFi where off the whole time, but the phone is shown as awake. I've attached another bunch of BBS stats, this time sorted by count and not time.
(btw. how do you get BBS to show a graph like on your screenshot karpfenhai?)
And isnt Siyahs kernel considered one of the better ones around? Just curious.
Fast Dormancy is not supported by my operator, BUT I've read that it doesn't matter because my operator propagates that to the phones, and they disable it themselves.
Regarding K-9 checking so many folders, that's because I have them sorted by server side rules. I guess I could limit that to work mails.
Thanks again for the help so far.
I used Siyahs kernel for a while and I loved some of the features but Speedmod has it beat in terms of speed (duh! ) and battery life (I had read that multiple times which made me switch and I noticed a drop in battery consumption when switching to Speedmod).
You can check if FD is off as well but if your carrier doesn't support it may as well switch it off rather than relying on the phone to do it for you (I'd read a fair few posts from my fellow Aussies recommending switching off FD because AFAIK none of our carriers support it and it's a battery drain).
BTW - regarding Wifi sleep policy, I've seen people DEMAND that you completely turn off sleep policy as it's a battery drain (like you, i've been doing lots of battery reading and got mine down to very low consumption thankfully) - try comparing BBS with sleep policy on screen off vs sleep policy off and actually switching wifi off completely overnight.
Also, one thing I found useful was using titanium backup to completely freeze apps I wasn't using rather than just relying on the individual app settings. This also helps because it stops them booting when you start up your phone. Speaking of which, get Startup Manager if you haven't already - just like your home pc: turn off everything you don't need
EDIT: my uni mate wrote a pretty good general guide (for installing custom roms/etc as well as batter life tips) that might help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351663

1% an hour is very good pretty much what i get you cant really get much better than than unless you switch off data and sync and most other things, consider yourself lucky you only lost 1% an hour, if your surfing the web for about 40 mins non stop 5% sounds about right too.
Hello again, it seems you are on the right track, go ahead, its getting better
I had the same issue, 2ma consumption for 3-4 hours after unplugging, then it raised to 14-18ma for no reason, my suspicon was the accu wheather widget, but I didnt do any further investigation cuz I switched the kernel and the issue dissappeared, yay
Bbs can provide some more infos even on alarms, check it:
I still have 35% left and I can leave the house w/o getting panic ;-)
Try the kernel I mentioned earlier, you can only win!

BBS is force closing like crazy, cant really use it a lot.
the thing is, i still dont have an idea why my phone is always shown as awake. the one time i could access the graphs within BBS it showed the same behaviour. phone was/is awake the whole time.
As far as I know, this is related to miui, I've seen other users using this rom complaining about fc's..
Search for logcat and do a manual dump to gain the desired data.

I wonder if that constant awake bar is something to do with MIUI - certainly 8% in 8 hours drain isn't constantly awake, it would have drained more.
I route all my email to my Gmail and push that - doesn't seem to give me any battery trouble! I don't know if its a good option for you, or really whether or not its battery efficient, I just really like the Gmail interface.
so i've frozen some apps, wiped dalvik and cache partitions
but unfortunately that didnt really help.
here are some more screenshots (i resetted the data to get a more accurate reading) from the last half hour, during which, as you can see by the screen on time, i havent used the phone.
so do you think its odd that my phone got woken so often during this short time, or am i just to anal about it?
Simple can work well

like your battery saving method , but it doesnt help you, if your phone dies during a work day. all the testing i did was basically lab tests, i never really used the phone much during this time. if i start getting calls and writing mails all day, the battery will die, thats why i need to find out whats going on.
i just want to know, if what i'm seeing on the first screenshot in my last post is normal or not. from my understanding its just a little odd that, in the approx. 30 minutes that are displayed, my phone was awake a lot, when the screen wasnt even on (i was under the shower and havent touched the phone ones).
OK after i got my Arc S i already saw better battery than my old X10.
but after a while it started to get all "android" on me again in terms of ****ty battery.
after using better battery stats and digging all the web for solutions on the subject (yes i got pretty obsessed about battery ever since i had android), i've pretty much found out 3 simple stuff that pretty much takes up most of your battery on standby and even actual use of an android phone.
before i did that i woke up 8 hours later just to find out that at night on standby my battery ran from 100% to 86-90% when i woke up. (on my x10 i woke up with 76-80% lol)
keep in mind im a very heavy usage user on my android and i do literally EVERYTHING ON IT.
anyway 3 simple stuff to do:
1. log out of latitude, drains the battery like crazy.
2. disable auto sync for gmail, contacts and regular email (i use hotmail so i use the email app, dont have gmail)
3. be connected to your home or office wi-fi as much as possible.
keep in mind i do have whatsapp in the background and other regular apps that still ran as a service but they dont drain battery much apparently (i thought they were always the problem btw)
i unplugged my arc s from the charger with 100% fully charged battery at 4am and went to sleep..
..woke up 11 hours later at 3pm (yes weird day lol), had 18 missed calls, 6 sms messages and 5 voicemails which means the phone had the screen on for each call and the speaker played my ringtone every call and sms and even voicemail notification plus i had my alarm clock which i kept pressing the snooze on..
i was amazed to be with 96% after 11 hours!!!!! OMG
at the same day at 11pm i was left with 27% battery after all day had 1:20 hours voice calls, 2:50 hours screen display on.
i was also outside and im always on 3g and also used my gps on google maps for about 20 min.
finally happy about my frikin battery on my android device !!

Of course background services will use energy, but I have them on for a reason.
The best battery saving tips (for those who use their phones)are brightness and keep an eye out of resource hogs and unwanted background services (Facebook app).
I found that rooting and removing all the bloat-ware vastly improved my battery life as it gave more RAM which meant my phone had to do less memory management.

If you have a android and have done the registration on the first time, you have a GMAIL acc.
Btw, add this solution. Works for every phone.
- Go to WiFi & network settings > Mobile Network > Networkmode > Set it to "ONLY GSM"
this will make the mobile-antenna to find one connection and stand there (Mostly this gives the best signal strenght), but the WCDMA and WCDMA/GSM will search for other connections all the time and consume more battery
the only negative side with GSM is that your calls will connect 1~2 sec. slower compared to WCDMA and if you fall out of the signal range, youre out untill the antenna finds new one (but the strenght is good so dont worry)

Or you can set it to WCDMA only. Setting it to GSM only would be disadvantageous as most smartphone users need a data plan and 3G has far better internet speed.
Turning off the auto sync helped me a lot. I just manually check my email at regular intervals.

Seiously, these are all the most obvious "battery tweaks". Tose are the first things that would come up in my mind...
I can safely say it's not a definite solution.
Most if not have already turned the Auto sync off.
Latitude for most users doesn't run to start with and even in some cases not even
installed.
Wifi and HSPA is a given this is pretty much ON all the time for most since were power users. (6gb data plan) can't complain for 20$.
Bluetooth in some cases but rare.
Full charge your phone and if your a power user within 14 to 16hours your usually left with about 10% battery usage.
Take into consideration that this is a rooted Xperia Arc S with bootloader locked.
If I leave it alone fully charge when I go to bed and wake up in the morning I usually have about 7% gone in roughly 8hours of standby that is taking into account your have the standard 1500mah battery.
I would highly suggest getting the 1700mah MUGEN battery it's worth the extra 50$. May not make much difference for some but it does for other.

Nothing new actually. In standby/idle mode I loose hardly 4-5% in 7 hours during night.
These are the most common battery tweaks.
In fact if the phone is alive (with 10% left) after 20 hours of heavy use, then i am happy.
With my Rooted device with 0.58 firmware, i get a 18-20 hours [brightness set to 40% always] of heavy using that includes, 2hrs of browsing on WiFi, 2 hrs of music, 40 mins HDGame, 2-3 hours voice call, 30-40 mins of video (occasional) and i check email in every hour and and reply, so that's good for me.
I appreciate you sharing your advice, but there are some points that are not so convenient and here is why:

Why not leave the phone plugged in while you're sleeping?
Stock Arc battery has overcharging protection, which means that there is no risk harming it if you leave it on charger for 8-10 hours.
It will charge to 100%, then decrease to 95% and start charging again.
As a matter of fact, those small charge cycles can turn out to be beneficial for the new technology Li-Pol batteries.

Agreed.
But there are cases when people use Latitude to their convenience.
For example, I tend to leave it on while travelling and I've taught my father how to use it on his (my old) X10 so that he won't have to call me all the time to see where I am.

Now that just doesn't make any sense.
One of the major Android features is that you can get your Gmail messages instantly and, in some cases, even substitute text messaging altogether.
I have 3 Gmail accounts on my phone and they are in autosync 24/7, because otherwise my phone is pretty much as useful as a Nokia S40 phone.
Not to mention that polling (refresh at a specified rate) drains way more battery than push notifications which Gmail utilises.
mety333 said:

Agreed.
Especially in low signal areas, WiFi can save battery because the phone doesn't constantly trying to establish data connection. However, forgetting to turn WiFi off when leaving your home or office hotspot range can result in even bigger drain, as the phone will intermittently look for available WiFi hotspots.

Personally, I feel you are sacrificing vital features just to stall your battery meter.
This is not as wise as you make it appear to be, because if each one of us carefully considers it, we will realise that there are very few hours within the day that a plug is not accessible. We have cars -there are car chargers, we are at home -obviously there are sockets, we are at the office -there are PCs thus USB ports. Heck, I've even charged my phone on a DVD player with a USB port in a presentation room once! In my opinion, it's about time we stop whining about how "our old phones lasted a week even if we were playing Snake all day" and adopt new charging habits.
Then again, how one uses their phone, it's their business.
However, the thread title can be considered misleading, as I reckon your advice is respectable, but in no way a widely applicable solution.
If I'm staying over at a bud's place/gf's place and have no charger/microusb handy, or I'm out and battery is running low, I do one thing:
1. Turn off data (I use a nice on-screen toggle for this).
This alone lets my battery last faaaaar longer.
Why dont you but a nokia 3310 and stop whining?
the reason we buy these phones is cause of the amount of things we do on them. disabling these features is just pointless and turns the phone back intoa dumb phone

BATTERY LIFE TIPS FROM - https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/116517178872973348174
""Battery Tip 1: Discharge your device all the way until it turns off, plug it in, charge up, turn on, after boot...unplug. Do this every two weeks. Optimal ranges to begin charges is usually 10-13% and above while your device is off. If On it may not work as well due an calibration issue.
Battery Tip 2: Go to the Google Settings App, Location, then turn off Location Reporting. Your phone location apps will still work great, Google Now will also but it won't pop up Transit stops unless you open and refresh. It will still pop up Time To Leave info. There is currently a bug that randomly triggers the CPU to keep active with a constant 7-10%. I narrowed this down to Location or rather one of Moto's custom LocationServices process conflicting. When this happens, your stand by drain increases(loosing 2-5%/hr not doing anything). A reboot will fix it. Read more: #motoxbugs Sadly, I don't believe Moto will fix it. For now, this helps prevent it and lowers the ping rate Google Search uses for location requests.
Battery Tip 3: Android OS is too high(Is it's cpu time 2hr or more after 13hrs)? Disable Android Device Manager in the Google settings App by unchecking the first option. Reboot, twice. Monitor it until your next discharge. If you see a difference, then this is your problem. Test it, by enabling it again and reboot. I found a way to keep it on and not experience extremely high Android OS but I don't have enough testers to be 100% sure it works. This part is an Google issue. For now, you can use Moto's version of this service.
--
Things to note, an overnight stand by drain that I've found achievable is 1%/hr. The tips above should help get you there. I've helped and seen users get 0.3-0.6%/hr on stock software and no root. I'll say the X is able to get good stand by but right now for majority of users they'll see the optimal 1%/hr to 1.7%/hr. Even in airplane mode, which is just wrong to me, Android OS being a tad high is the reason why. Hopefully..and I hope, Moto optimizes stand by drain like it did on the Moto G.
That's it for now, have fun. Let me know any good and bad below. Hopefully I can write a post with more tips on my blog to help more.""

that is true. but draining your battery down to 0 doesn't actually fully discharge the battery. Companies know this so when it gets that close the phone auto shuts down before it actually fully discharges the battery. Did lots of research on it and I don't think fully discharging the battery to 0 is a problem. Clearly, even then it hits "0" it is not actually at 0 because the phone uses power to **** itself down, thus protecting the battery from actually reaching 0.
This isn't as much of a battery saving tip as a battery calibration thing. It will help your battery charge properly and show your discharge rate properly as opposed to randomly losing a lot of battery all at once because it is reporting wrong as oppossed to your battery actually draining that fast. Or for users that can stay on 0 battery for many hours. Thats a calibration issue that this technique fixes.

I think he was referring to the app "Google Settings" in the app drawer. The first setting is to remotely locate the device and the second setting allows you to remotely lock and erase. I'm guessing the method you described disables both completely.
Google Settings > Android Device Manager > "Remotely locate this device" (uncheck)
On an unrelated note, I've been wrestling with the high amount of wakelocks from NlpCollectorWakeLock and NlpWakeLock. After trying a ton of different options and disabling specific apps and/or services, the one with the most success so far is disabling the scanning of wifi networks even when wifi is off.
Settings > WiFi > Advanced > "Scanning always available" (uncheck)
As best I can tell, that eliminated a majority of the wakelocks I was getting. I still get NlpCollectorWakeLock and NlpWakeLock but it's on the order of a few minutes per 4-5 hours vs. ~1 hour per 4-5 hours. All other apps (tasker, maps, etc) work fine and all other settings are enabled (location reporting, high accuracy location mode, etc).
YMMV but it seems to have helped me quite a bit over the last 24+ hours. I'm sure there are further improvements to be made but at the end of the day yesterday I had 35% battery left whereas in the past it'd be <10%.
In my experience, I leave Google tracking and android device manager on all the time. I get typically get 3 hours on screen time with with at least 24 hours off charger.
I leave them on bc my last device was stolen, and had I left them on, I would have been able to find it quicker.

I disabled a couple of the things you mentioned (I left location reporting on, though, google now navigation works weird without it on), and my wake times went from about 15% down to 1%.
Thanks!
Wow, thanks.
I implemented your # 2 and 3 and now I am getting crazy battery life. Easily makes it through the day with no wifi, lots of talk/text, and about 3 hours of screen time. I maybe have 30-40% after that
Turning off Location Reporting really made a difference for me, thanks!

I have to say so far #2 tip works great. I can notice since yesterday that the phone is actually sleeping and my battery doesn't drop.
