Hi,
I just tried flashing new ROM and now the Clockwork Recovery does not work anymore. I can go to Bootloader then select Recovery to be in Clockwork but at there whenever I select a menu such as Wipe data or Install zip, etc.. I get a blank screen, it totally not work.
So please tell me how to re-install it or even remove it as well. Any helps appreciated!
Thanks.
make sure you're not pressing the power button when selecting something, press trackball, lols.
on the first menu when you select "recovery" you have to use the power button to select something.
in the next menu the track ball is used instead.
this is confusing, but this is usually explained in all tutorials, so next time just be careful with reading
ahhhhh Thank you guys for the replies. I have used this tool so many times but don't know why I forgot it, It just was the stupid of mine, the power button is just back
Thanks again!

These are the steps to boot your Droid 2 phone into Recovery Mode should you need to.
1. Turn Droid 2 Off
2. Press 'X' on the physical keyboard and then Press and HOLD Power button until the Exclamation Point/Android picture shows(after motorola symbol).
3. To access menu options Press the "Search" button depicted by the Magnifying glass on the Keyboard and the menu items will show up.
4. Browse options with the Volume Up and Volume Down keys and select option with the Camera button all on side.
5. Select first option of "Reboot phone" or risk messing up your brand new Droid 2!
I can add a picture if someone requests it (any ideas of how to best take said picture?) I'm new the the forum so if this post is in the wrong place and/or someone else had provided the info just let me know. (I looked but you can never be too sure.)

Thanks for this info, it's very helpful... I also learned that to get into bootloader manually, power on the phone and hold the Keyboard UP key.
Nice to know.
Also, 'Safe Mode' (for killing third party apps stuck in force close loop at start up) is Power On and hold the Soft "Menu" (the four squares).
Another little tip.

I am assuming that if you have clockwork recovery it will boot into that correct?
I can only assume that also, I'm new to android hacking so from what I've read I think so but I'm not sure.
I'm sure a more experienced member could confirm.
This doesn't boot into clockwork at least on the D2. I tried it with koush's bootstrap installed and it just boots into the stock recovery. I might try to do it again just to confirm.

i have found to boot into boorstrap recovery is pull the battery out for a few seconds then power the phone on. I realized that whenever my phone died and i charged it and turned it back on it would always boot to clockwork

I don't know if it does it every time but when i hold my volume down rocker and the power button it boots into clockwork, give it a try
Sorry for the stupid question, but why do I need to do this? I'm new to Droid. Also, will this delete my data?
You don't really /need/ to do this it's just some information I thought would be helpful to put out there. Most people will never need to boot into the stock recovery.
If you decide to root your droid 2 then you will use koush's bootstrap to boot into clockwork recovery and make backups and install ROMs if you so choose.

It's cool. I'm still a semi-noob in some aspects, everybody needs a little info every now and then.

I have been able to get into the android system recovery but am now getting message on main screen of recover "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command" Is this a cause for concern.
Don't worry about the error - it's normal.
Can't seem to get CWM installed through "ROM Manager", no matter how hard you damn well try? While trying to flash my Legend, I came across something which may help you guys out as it did me.
NOTE: You must have root to to do this.
This is a NON-PERMANENT solution. Using this method will NOT permanently replace your stock recovery with CWMs.
Download the file attached to this post.
Rename the file to "update.zip"
Place it on the root of your sdcard and then turn off your Legend.
Hold the volume buttons and the power button. You will boot into HBOOT.
After HBOOT scans for the LEGEIMG stuff, navigate to the "RECOVERY" option with the volume down button, and hit the power button to select it. Afterwards, you'll hit the dreaded "RED EXCLAMATION MARK OMG OMG WHAT DO" screen.
Hold the volume buttons and the power button again, and ignore the error which appears.
After the blue menu appears, navigate to "Apply update.zip" and select it.
Magic just happened. SUDDENLY YOU'RE IN CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY.
From here you can flash ROMS, wipe your cache, etc etc etc.
Hope this helps anyone having trouble flashing CWM.
P.S. This may well work for other models having trouble flashing CWM.
Nice guide, but There is allready a guide for this in dev. Fake-Flash

And you do need to be rooted
I previously updated my phone with the update.zip. It worked for a while and then started giving me grief. I backed up the SD card and then tried the simple root. After a few tries, it appeared to be successful. I formatted my SD card and then replaced the backed up files. I then backed up my phone with Titanium backup.
Here is where the trouble lies: I powered down the phone and held the volume down/camera/power button until it booted into ClockworkMod Recovery. I selected "wipe data/factory reset" and pressed the home key. The screen went black but the led stayed on and the keys on the bottom stayed lit up. It stayed like that for at least 10 minutes. I tried pressing buttons, powering on/off, nothing. Finally I did a battery pull. After the battery pull it allows me to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery, but won't let me reboot or anything. Anytime I make a selection, it goes to a black screen.
Now what? I'm freaking out here!
This has got to be a troll right? You don't use the home key to make your selections. The home key MAKES the screen go black, that's what it does.
You should be using the camera button to make your selections.
No troll, I sincerely thought that you used the home screen to select. I'll try the camera button now. Thanks for the info!
my guess is he's on stock recovery... not clockwork
I was trying to do a factory wipe. It is my first time to root a phone and use CMW. The camera button did the trick. Thank you!
If memory serves me correctly you do use the home button to make a selection with stock settings.
OP you may want to just use the Samsung utility to flash back to Stock EB13. After that you can root or do whatever you like.
I also used the update.zip to start with, and even though I didn't have any of the serious bugs that we have seen. I went ahead and flashed it back stock anyways and noticed an improvement.
You should be able to find a link to the samsung tool here, I'm sure its still on a mirror.
If not let me know.
Nate

Don't use the power button to select. Use the trackpad

Well first off, you should ALWAYS make nandroid (ROM manager) backups before flashing any ROM, addon, patch, etc.
That aside, you have a few things to do here. If you didn't make a nandroid backup you should download a ROM.zip file from the Dev section (your choice), and put it on your SDcard. Enter the boot loader (from off) by holding vol. down+power, then selecting 'recovery'. Once in recovery, wipe data/factory reset, and then go to 'install zip from SDcard' and select the ROM.zip. Then flash any associated .zip's or anything that the ROM maker suggest. Reboot, and you're good to go in a working ROM. You can now go from there.
Remember, when in recovery you need to use the TRACKPAD and BACK BUTTON to navigate the CWM recovery screen. Using the power button / camera button / menu button will just show/hide the menu or turn the screen off. You can scroll and select with the trackpad, and go back with the 'back' button. Only use these 2. Nothing is wrong with your phone, you're just using the wrong damn buttons.
Your phone is so far from bricked its not even funny. Just follow some basic knowledge on how the recovery and ROM manager works and you'll be back to 100%.
thanks alot guys. i was really high so i started getting paranoid about my phone lol BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH
Power Button just shows the wallpaper, trackpad is where you select for our phone
Hi all,
Got this phone last week. It's been really laggy and basically unusable, it even lags when receiving calls and I miss half of them from being unable to answer. I was advised to wipe the cache partition, but the recovery menu is in Chinese. I got in touch with Motorola support who first tried to get me to delete all my data in the Chinese recovery menu, then gave me instructions to wipe the partition in English which I can't follow because the menu is in Chinese, and then said they couldn't help further. I can't find any other examples of Motorola phones with a Chinese recovery menu online.
Really not sure what to do!
Thanks for reading.
When I pressed power+volume down, phone booted into some Chinese screen, but it was not recovery, it was I think a testing menu. You might have pressed the same buttons. To boot to recovery, press power+volume up, this will launch a menu, keep pressing volume up to select recovery, then press volume down to launch recovery, after launching recovery you'll see no command screen, there you should hold power button and press volume up, this will launch recovery. Hope it helps.
That worked, thank you! Motorola were less than useless. Much appreciated.
In case it helps anyone, I fixed the lagging today by installing a new version of google play services, which I found by googling. Made everything better.
Please confirm which version of Google Play services you installed as I have the same problem.

You have to hold Power button and tap volume up. Don't press both buttons simultaneously, hold Power, while holding Power tap volume up. If it does not work, then a system update might have changed the process (though highly unlikely I think).

Stock images for e3 Power are available somewhere in the forum. Try flashing stock images. By the way there is no need to format userdata while flashing recovery.
Okay i managed to figure it out spent 5 houres or so had to use SP_Flash_TooL and some USB VCOM drivers for phone this can only be used on MTK chips.
trust me i just saw this post every google search is saying stuff about pressing volume down like it works XDA developers are life and life savers been using this since like 8 years ago and it still going strong had to leave my first comment
