Hi, I searched the forums and can't find an answer for my softbrick. I was trying to push a recovery file into system/bin after i changed recovery to recovery.bak. I clicked R/W when I pushed it, but when I looked again it was still R/O and the recovery.bin i pushed was 0.00kb (guessing it didn't go through). After, I tried booting into CWM Recovery and now I'm stuck at the Samsung Vibrant screen when you first turn on the phone.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Thanks for any help.

Odin back to stock?
Look in the Bible.
Edit: The Vibrant Bible.
You need to get into recovery and Odin back to stock and go from there. Look for the Bible and read all of it, that saved my phone a million times. Good luck!!
Next time ask in the Q&A ;-)

First things first. You need to get to download mode so you can Odin.
If you turn her off then plug in a USB cable connected to a PC while holding both volume buttons and the yellow screen comes up, you win. Just read up on using Odin. Otherwise try a jig. I hear Irish works best.

Of course, this is never as easy as you think its gonna be -
Got to Download Mode, opened up Odin, got the .pit in, but when I get to the .tar file (that i got from here http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/ ) Odin can't find any .tar files from the JFD extract folder. They're all .rfs and an .lfs files.
Also, I searched the forums and the Bible and shiz for both the .pit and .tar and only got one hit that lead to a discontinued link.
Am I doing something wrong or are the .rfs/.lfs files correct? Can anyone lead me to a good download for the .tar? (Google and samsung.com are useless... )

2.1 is eaasier to root, just put the update.zip on the phone, go to recovery, reinstall packages and done
Here are the two files, update is the superuser, and update clockwork is recovery.
1. Put the files in the root of your phone storage.
2. reboot to (Stock) recovery
3. reinstall packages, you are rooted.
rename the update file to something else, and then rename the clockwork file update. Repeat the above steps to install Clockwork Mod Recovery

As long as you are on JFD 2.1, and have not Kies Mini updated to Froyo yet, you should be Shiny. If you did update, I would try the modified 3eRecovery installer again.
Hello People,
Firstly I would like to apologize if this is a duplicate post, Googling reveals tons of different documents which actually has confused me and as I have tried many, I don't even know now what have I screwed up.
Phone - U8800H
OS - Linux
I tried to update my phone and it got messed up. It simply won't boot but go in an infinite loop or restarting every 3 seconds (once the HUAWEI logo is displayed).
By pressing both Vol buttons and starting the phone I can go into bootloader mode (pink screen) and the phone drives get mounted. However trying to go to recover mode by pressing the Vol UP key during start up simply again keeps restarting the phone.
I have tried various solutions which include re-downloading the images folder files again, replacing the recover.img from clockwork, formatting that partition and retrying, almost everything.
The phone simply keeps restarting. Replacing or removing any of the file in the images folder gives me a blue screen during going to bootloader mode.
As I cant get to recover mode I don't know what to do.
The warranty of the phone is finished as it was only of three months. I was told by the company I purchased it from to be a "power problem" but I think its a software problem as I messed it up myself.
If anyone has faced such situation before please help.
Thanks.

The original ROM was U8800HV100R001AREC00B135SP01 CUSTC213D001 (Kuwait VIVA). I have downloaded it as well.
However as suggested it asks me to create a dload folder in a formatted SD card with the zipped files within it, and then start the phone in 'recovery mode'. However the phone doesn't start in that mode with the same restarting issue.
One person suggested to create a 'dload' folder in the SD card with no contents in it and then start the phone in 'bootloader' mode and the phone will auto revert to its default firmware. I did as suggested but it didn't work either.
I have the original boot.img that came with the phone. I also downloaded a fresh boot.img (along with the other three files that come in the images folder) but still the same result of restarting during trying to start in 'recover mode'.
It was working fine till I messed it up trying to upgrade it to 2.3 to change the patched wpa_supplicant file to connect to Ad-Hoc networks.
I think I need to change the files required for 'recover mode' to default ones, but I don't know where they reside. Any tutorial in this direction would be great.
Thanks.
My guess is that some of the partitions got messed up somehow, some different filesystems (ext4 over ext3) in 2.3 stock fw.
Have you tried copying update.app to dload-folder of sdcard then booted phone with both vol-down and vol-up pressed (bootloader mode). That should in theory start the update...

Ok then.... because I'm lost... which rom was on!
2.2.1?
or 2.3.?
these are the files needed FIRST....
---------- Post added at 05:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:16 PM ----------
Ok IF you were on 2.2.... on sdcard make \dload folder with update 2.2 original rom!!!!
Vol+ Vol- Power on...pink screen and it should do the rest!!!
Recovery after you reinstall 2.2!
Now IF you managed to put 2.3... then put 2.3 update in sdcard \dload and again it should do the rest.
If you are trying to come back to 2.2 or miui oxygen cm7 from the beta.... first put the 2.3 beta back on via the sdcard.
I have put the original ROM in 'dload' folder and as suggested I shall have started the phone in 'bootloader' mode now. There is no movement on the screen so I don't know even if its doing something.
How much should I wait or shall I be notified if the update is done ?
Thanks.

Is your folder structure like this
/sd
/sd/dload
/sd/dload/update.app
If it is, then boot to bootloader. you should see it is doing stuff.

I have double checked it again, the structure is 'dload' folder in the root of the memory card and the update.app file in it, still however I don't see any movement in the 'bootloader' mode, just the "pink" screen continuously lit.
What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks.

Pink screens means it didn't work. Your phone isn't mounting the sd-card right in bootloader mode. You could try to put the dload-folder on internal sd-card, should be possible since you're on linux. Think you just need to mount the right partition when connecting your phone via usb when in pinkscreen. I don't recall exactly which partition as I'm using Windows and haven't tried this, but you should be able to find some more info around here by searching a bit...

Hello XDA-Forum!
Same problem here with my u8800
I have original recovery.img but i fd' other files by overwriting them.. (yes i know...)
Now my phone doesen't start flashing and i cant do anything. I was using almost latest version of oxygen mod.
Do i need original files to flash my phone back to stock in image/... floder? And if i need, can i dig version form recovery.img? or might this is problem with partitions? I think oxygen is known by partition problems.

I have tried as you suggested, There were 5 partitions on the phone 2 of which were smaller than 200MB and therefore could not save the update file which is larger in size. I have tried over the remaining three partitions but in vain, they all end up with the same pink screen.
However you might be correct that my phone is not mounting the SD card as I can't see the SD card in the list of mounted drives in the computer.
To put/move files on SD card I have to use my another phone
I will get another SD card and try. In the meanwhile if there is anything else I could try, do advice me.
Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to XDA!
I guess you got the same problem with sd-card not mounting properly if you can't initiate stock flashing via dload-folder-method.
If you search the forums you'll find links to download all files that's needed in the image-folder of pinkscreen-partition. Then you'll hopefully be able to boot to recovery (vol-up + power), wipe data/cache/dalvik cache and flash whatever ROM you'd like. Remember this erases all your data, hopefully you've backed up whatever precious stuff you've got on your phone.

Remember that you need all files from the same version. Try this, those are from stock 2.2 if I'm not mistaken. When (if?) you get into recovery, remember to clear cache / data / dalvik cache.

Glad to hear you get it working as we both had the basically same problem.
For me however still it is the same issue, except that while going into the recover mode now it shuts down instead or restarting endlessly. Where as the bootloader mode simply does nothing.
Can you post the exact steps you did to get your work so I can also repeat them?
Thanks.

You've got the U8800H right? Then you need to find the correct image-folder for your phone, as it differs from what I uploaded which is for U8800.

There could be many reasons why it didn't work. Just have to be patient and see if you had missed any steps. Have you tried using a different computer? You have the right drivers installed for your carrier? Got into Download Mode with no problems? You have the stock rom and the correct dll files? Seems like you know what you're doing so I suggest try it on a different computer and remember to reboot your system after making any changes/installations of programs or drivers.
I was in a similar situation and panicked and did rush through some steps which luckily I calmed down long enough to realize my mistakes and got a successful flash. Good luck on getting your phone running stock again or able to exchange for a new one.
In the spring.zip file there is the dll file and the tot file make sure you put both file and not use the att dll file. If you got the right one there is others thread that shows how to vome out of boot loop with out having to go back.

it was the dll just make sure you have the ls980 which its the one that tells the computer what phone its working on.
Searched but and found similar posts but with different phones or different firmware, so the file references were of no help.
Basically I had safestrap working, had flashed google play edition ROM and it was working great with the exception of the play store not wanting to connect. I was in the process of messing with that and read (here) that I needed 4.3 edition of that app, I checked and I had 4.2, so I loaded 4.3 to the Sdcard and installed it..
Phone rebooted and just stays on the samsung custom splash screen indefinitely . I can get to ODIN on the phone, soI tried using https://builds.casual-dev.com/jodin3/ to get access and see what I could do, but it keeps telling me to unplug and plug in the phone, and gives an error that it cant mount the device.
So, im kinda stuck, I didn't use ODIN to do anything previously, But considering its the only thing I currently have access to, I guess its my only hope.
Been fighting this a few hours and getting pretty dejected, I had almost everything PERFECT.. and now back to WORSE than where I started.

The 4.3 edition of SS doesn't work on 4.2. Does it stay on the splash or does it go to the actual boot animation? Also, you don't need to boot into the phone to use odin, it's a PC program. You can google "mf3 tar files" and you'll find the thread with the ODIN files, use them to get back to stock.

You put platform tar in the PDA slot right? Also, you might have to restart between flashes or just load them in all at once.
There's a picture on this post with what options you should have: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46955352&postcount=7

Make sure the file you download was full and that it extracted the whole platform file. Other than that i'm not sure why it wouldn't work..

Ive downloaded it twice, Ive tried flashing it under windows 7 and OSX. Same result.
I would be happy to try a different platform file, but I cant find any others.
One oddity, the ONLY Odin program that can see the phone is Jodin3, the web based version.
Ive downloaded 1.85 and 3.07 (windows) have updated the samsung USB drivers, have updated the heimdall software... they cant see it.

Seems like it's not installing the drivers right. I'd try installing again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038555 or just manually go into device manager and point it to where you installed the drivers. Also, you might have to wait a while on any version of ODIN (even the we version) for it to finish checking the file.
OHHHH ****!
You were right, it was the USB drivers, I had to do it via method 3, I.E. manually select them.. for some odd reason the installer DID install the drivers but the device showed up as someting totally different than when doing it manually.
flashing now... will see what happens:laugh:
ITS ALLLLIIIVVVEEEE!!!!!!!
Ok. so, now I cant start over lol!
Thanks for all your help, everyone!!
Hi out there looking for help with my G2 (D803) . I am new to all this rooting and TWRP stuff but been trying to learn and figure this out. I accepted some update after which the phone only boots into TWRP recovery project v2.6.3.2 now. Looks like I lost everything else (at least that is what I think has happened).
So I have been reading on the forums and learned about using ADB devices and getting the right rom from xda-developers (I am with Telus in Canada) - used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 - downloaded LG support tool and flash tool and drivers for phone and installed them all on the computer.
I first had trouble pushing the rom on to my phone (using ADB devices and ADB push commands) because the phone would just turn off while transferring and I could only regain access when the battery is fully drained (happens really fast now?) and I recharge (which seems to take forever now?).
I took the phone to a store and they did some tweaking (says SIMULATING ACTIONS on the title now below TWRP and version number) after which I could push the ROM (I did rename it on the computer) successfully on to the phone using "ADB push" in command prompt.
I proceeded to install the rom and it says successful but clearly it did not work. What I see is:
Finished running boot script.
E:storage partition '//TWRP/BACKUPS/018bf7ce0f4c6fa0' not found
simulation actions ...
updating partition details ...
but then I reboot and it goes back into TWRP.
I tried going through flashtool as well and followed the steps to install the kdz file but it seems like the computer is not connecting to the phone. But if i go to device manager the device shows and says working properly (i installed the drivers already) and you also hear the beep when plugging in the USB cable into the phone. again it also seems to connect through command prompt because i can push a file successfully.
I am getting worried that I am out of luck with this phone . Can anyone help or provide suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? Would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm not entirely sure, but it sounds like everything in TWRP is being simulated, which would mean that no files are actually written. Try going into Settings in TWRP, uncheck the "Simulate actions" checkbox, and run the rom installation again.

Thanks for the reply. It definitely did something because the installation process moves forward now. Now I get:
Zip signature verification failed: 1
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/telus.zip
also when i unclick zip file verification in setting i also see:
checking for MD5 file...
skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
So problem with the zip file? I downloaded it off xda-developers but I renamed the file to Telus.zip and pushed it on to the phone in the sdcard directory.
Download the whole Rom and flash it

Hi,
Was stuck with my HTC Butterfly x920d with the same. Thanks for your guidance, was able to recover.
Foolishly, I had SIMULATE option checked in the recovery settings. Though was able to boot into system but no account, no google & reset stuck into recovery.
Thanks a ton
(I was trying to reset this device for my father)

How do you get into settings when it goes straight to simulating actions?
