Is anyone else ending up with a very warm device after a little heavy usage? I've not had the phone many days to determine if this is the way the phone is in general, so if this is the way the HD2 is, just tell me lol.
Noticed that also wenn downloading lots of apps from market with wifi on. The backside is getting pretty warm then. But it cools down as soon as you finished your stuff and do usual things like texting or something. Thats my experience.
Its funny people bring up phones getting Hot. Cause We got a Gig processor, and 576mb ram. If you feel like ur phones getting hot, you know ITs a BEAST. also keeps ur pocket warm in winter.
Yes! Comparing with WM 6.5, when running WM 7 phone is getting warm even just scrolling in menu for a while. Battery usage is HUGE! 10 minutes playing game (Jewels) consumpted a half of fully charged battery. Battery life worse then android have.
Yep defo gets hot, when screen is off its fine but when in use it gradually warms up
This is usually the sign of high battery drainage
i used to get it in android
Am I right in saying that magldr could have something to do with the battery drain? Been reading some comments that suggest its possible

you are right, but this only happened to me when i installed andoird via nand way, i don't have any problems with wm7 on my htc hd2 tmobile leo 1024.
i'm happy
my HD2 gets hot when android runs ... WP7 is no load at current bulid
Must agree, my one got realy warm after me sitting 20 min on the train sorting/linking contacts. got more warm that it should.
It just seems like a gradual warming on mine, it can get quite warm though, it happens even if I leave the screen on while magldr boot options are on and nothing else, I think my problem is that, and I'm looking forward to a update
nah just when i'm charging.
EDIT: I did notice bottom of my HD2 getting warm now that you mentioned it. But nothing toworry.

Yea that's your processor, and it is something to worry about, if you care about your phone.
is it possible related to sdcard?
if I use sdcard class 2 or class 6 will it got any different?
Ya mine too becomes ho....if i use internet...otherwise it stays cool...
God knows ...its harming the processor or its just usual thing.
M-SD Class 10 better
Try to M-SD Class 10
It's work well.
When i used to run WP7 and 7.8 the most heat generated was from 3g/2g mobile internet. That thing just fried the HD2's bottom, i couldn't chat on whatsapp more than 5 minutes before the phone's bottom got too warm to even hold. I figured its the combo of SD-card usage, mobile internet (a bit less heat when on WiFi) and screen-on effect that strained cpu and other phone parts to its limits. Eventually moved away from WP (sadly) due to lack of certain things i needed, but i remember that was something that really bothered me alot (aside from no wifi on standby).

Anyone have any temperature issues with their phones? Mine gets really hot when using any video aps.
same here, but i'm not concerned... using the video, long phone calls, GPS and/or wifi will generate some heat. now, mine is not generating enough heat so it's hot to the touch; it's noticeably warmer, though...
yeah i got the same problem,...
specialy when u do something to make the phone work his a** off ( if u know what i mean )
Strange, I have never know my HD get hot. I know it will get warmer when using WIFI etc but compared to my Diamond which used to burn my hands this is cool.
lol the Diamond was not that hot man ! They are hot just because the chipset is at the bottom and there are no fan, unlike a computer
Agree,
just don't hold you're hand to long at the bottom of your phone, and it will be a little cooler
warm is normal... its the cpu
hot is not normal... so you dont mean hot right
When I first got my HD, it used to get warm, but after I started flashing roms regularly, there has been a significant change and it now gets alot 'warmer'... small price to pay though
I wouldn't say it gets 'hot' though.
My side if I use radio 1.14 or radio 1.12 my Touch HD drain my battery and get very hot.... I put Radio 1.13 and battery get second life and the température is normal now...
Just my 2 cents
KaNiMziE
when i listen music for about 30 mins + and running some programs such as adobe reader or opera, i can feel a warm in my hands from the battery. actually its more like to be said a relatively high heat felt by my hands !?
is this high battery heat normal? i mean for an everyday usage.
tnx in advance
Note: i did search but didnt find anything about LEO battery heating.
The battery can sometimes get quite warm, but it should never be hot. If it heats up to much you should probably get it looked at.
The battery in the HD was a lot worse than this. I think there may have been some issues, but HTC have worked on it. Thankfully, I don't know of any HTC phones exploding anywhere yet! lol
mine gets hot as well some times especially when I use igo in my car and charge the phone at the same time but also when playing a game etc.. but I read in the manual that this is normal... although I believe heat to an extent that can burn your hand its not normal.... mine never got that hold
just my 2 cents

Hello,
If you are using something like Opera, coupled with a number of applications that are cpu intensive, then you are going to get high battery drain which equals high heat output. Some of the heat will be coming off the cpu as well but the end result is the same.
The problem is worse if you are using wifi and/or gprs and you are in a low signal area, which means that the device and the battery need to work even harder to serve your needs.
If this happens again then check your location relative to wifi and gprs and/or reduce the number of intensive applications you have running at the same time.
If this fails then you may have a fault; however I think one or all of the factors mentioned above are linked to your issue.
WB
ok tnx for replay guys...i accept this as normal situation, and yes i definety like to use igo8...and really its soo nice to have pda such LEO that can easily open and run several such programs!
Good morning,
I did a search for this topic but didn't find anything which could help so I thought I'd start a new thread and ask you guys.
I have installed the Desire version of Android and it runs fine apart from two issues.
The first is that when the phone is plugged in to either the wall charger or the PC it gets really hot. The heat is coming from the back of the phone but right at the bottom (not from the battery). It got so hot after around twenty minutes last night that I rebooted it into Windows just so I could charge my phone overnight. Windows has no similar issues, by the way.
The second thing is that sometimes the screen becomes unresponsive while running Android. This is mainly on the homescreen and you have to usually turn the screen off (stand-by) and switch it back on again to make it work.
If anyone can offer any solutions to either problem I'd very much appreciate it. If I've left anything out, let me know. It's nearly 7am and I'm barely thinking straight.
Many thanks.
i get the same heat issue whether its plugged in or not(its much worse when its plugged in though). this & the battery life are why i cant run android for more than a couple hours. im sure theyre related too. the heat scares me, i dont want anything to fry out. as soon as i boot back into windows it cools right down. i really hope this issue gets fixed soon.
yeah the problems you have are what some ppl have and to my knowledege they have not been fully solved yet. But its still a work in progress, just give it some time
I can deal with the overheating I turn the screen off for a while and its good.
What I can't deal with is THE CONSTANT FREEZING!
It's really starting to piss me off!!
I think its because of the class 4 SD card, I'll get a class 6 SD some time this month and I think that should help out A LOT!
i 100% using external charger with few batteries, so i've never realize the problem.
find a good task manager app from the marketplace and kill all apps that are running in the background. that cooled down the device quite a bit for me
i don't think so

i don't think so. mine is 8GB class 4.
I think it may be related to your radio and rom.
I am on claudyfa's 1.5 rom and 2.12.xx radio - you can give it a try
If I use a lot of apps in android, it gets really hot, like in win mo. but android is hotter
good luck
It's freakin beta. Secondly use set CPU and lower your clock speed. It save battery life also. As far as the freezing its a result of the beta nature of the roms

I got the same problem with MdJ Froyo HD 4.4
Is it a known issue now ? Can it be solved by anything ?

This thing gets hot! Just been configuring launcher pro which took around 5 minutes and wasn't data intensive and the back of the phone is really hot. So much that I can smell the plastic heating up! The battery drained real fast during the process too.
Anyone else experiencing this ?
Well that doesn't sound good! I haven't had anything like that. Have you checked the power intake?

I have the exact same problem, it happens especially when I play any games or intensive appliaction. The battery drains and it gets hot next to the camera, I suspect this is where the cpu lives. Do you think its because its rooted? because I rooted it as soon as I got it so I dont know what it was like before.
And as I am away from the uk for the next six weeks I cant even send it back to O2
No nothing to do with root, mine was same before and after, pretty normal to get hot on some demanding apps.

It gets really hot sometimes though, not to the extent of burnt plastic smell but it gets pretty uncomfortable touching around lens at the back.
I've been going through this this morning. It seems that the CPU loves to go up to 1.2GHz even if it doesn't need to be that high (and it stays there). Also there I've also been noticing through ADB shell that their are a few niggles. For example the wi-fi sharing process can start without even being activated.
For example this was a ADB shell top taken while running Cordy downclocked to 800MHz in setcpu. The phone was a tiny bit warm but only by the camera (where the CPU is). Basically, this just shows that if you are playing a game, nothing else is going on so the CPU shouldn't be going up to 1200MHz. And it plays the same as when it isn't underclocked.
I'm currently assisting Pulser with investigating this until he gets his SGS2.

My phone gets very hot at time too...
I also noticed wifi sharing starting up by itself. Yesterday it started by itself and used 10% battery usage even though I had wifi switched off the entire time..

Do you have root and Titanium/MyBackup Pro?
If you do, freeze anything that mentions wifi sharing, unless you are going to use wifi hotspot and kies air a lot.

My phone got so hot that it shut itself down!
since that i have done a complete reset of the phone and started from scratch again....100% better.
The problem as i see it is with all the 'tinkering' that we users do. All the additional launchers etc and widgets that you add really seem to mess the phone up!
My advice is keep the phone as samsung intended it...or at least change very little. You will see far improved battery life and none of the over heating problems.
Just my opinion but its worked for me.

Find the nearest Apple store near you.
The only time i had this was when it waa both charging, in a case and playing a big game...
Im currently chatting, listening to a live stream, charging and posting this, no problem with heat at all..
Perhaps its a problem with some specific phones

that's just not true.
Mine gets hot aswell .. it's random sometimes but usualy with playing games etc. I suspect it has something to do with the samsung drivers/software and not our tinkering.
Bugs bugs bugs...
Mine also gets fairly hot, which might be a little uncomfortable - but that's the sacrifice you make when you get such a high powered device in such a small space.
Well, amount of apps/tinkering/etc has nothing to do with the phone getting got UNLESS an installed app in messing something up.I have heard many such cases when a rogue app made the CPU run at 100% in different phones. If that's the case you have to find and remove the app.I'd suggest OS monitor for finding it.Never happened to me though!
What's more,it's normal for it to get more hot than your average phone,as it carries more power under the hood and has nothing to help it dissipate the generated heat,as it's plastic. The Desire HD does a very good job with managing heat and I have never exceeded 40 C,even when gaming with an overclock at 1.8GHz and performance governor. Not saying the DHD is better, but Samsung wouldn't have left something like this if it would damage the phone. So I tend to believe that it's designed to get hot.
Mine has overheated twice.
Both times, when trying to pair itself automatically to my car kit. The phone got really really hot (i noticed it warming my leg in my jeans pocket) and needed the battery pulling out to reset it. When it started back up, the running temp was nearly 50 degrees (in standby, it runs at about 27)
Hasn't done it since though, just keeping my eye on it!
Hi there XDA people,
i sorta have a problem. I am using the NAND version of the HD2, the hyperdroid rom. . its working perfectly. The problem is that the fone heats up. the battery is life is ok but the fone seriously becomes VERY hot. its not rebooting or freezing or dropping calls like said in the other threads, just heating up. I have tried MANY roms but this problem still persists.
Any fixes??
Thanx alot

Is it getting hot while downloading something? is it getting hot while charging? is it getting hot while just sitting there doing nothing with the screen on? is it getting hot while in standby? What do you mean it becomes very hot?
While using your phone for playing games or intense heavy downloading of large files its normal for any electronic device to put off heat as it is running a lot of proccess through the internal electronics. If its getting hot while just sitting there doing nothing or charging or while in standby, then in 99% of the cases ive seen with any phone, your battery is shot. Despite you getting decent battery life, it still can be shot just because its getting hot. Over time your battery life will drop drastically.
Soryy
sorry man for not mentioning, it gets hot while doing anything. When playing games, it feels like an oven. When charging it does get very hot. it gets a little hot while the screen in on. But there r no problems in functioning, i mean no reboots or that sorta stuff. So shot? i gotta get a new one?

Well while playing games it feeling like an oven is actually normal.. and while charging. But while just having the screen on and doing nothing it shouldnt really get hot at all as the CPU is under no load or a very light load. And by shot, i meant the battery not the phone. a new battery is like 12 bucks from ebay. But it seems from what you described to be normal.
However, you may have a process in the background chewing up more CPU than needed. Download a task MANAGER not killer, to be able to view all the running proccesses. I like and recommend system tuner pro but there are free task managers in the market. once you have that filter the list of running services by CPU usage, the most being at the top. Secondly, download a battery monitor tool from the market, but one that has a tempuratrue option. So you can see the temperature values of it under the different situations.
Right now, being wirelessly tethered, with my phone on the window sill (so its getting some cool air from outside) im at 37.0 degrees celsius. Sometimes when playing high res games(temple run) for awhile i'll reach 41-42 but i cant recall seeing it higher than that.
ok THNX alot
Thank you, uve helped me alot. so charging and playing games, getting hot is normal and ive taken notice of the battery moniter programs. Thanx. At standby, it gets just slightly hot, i mean its hot here in pakistan, maybe cus of that? anyways ill buy a battery after a few months maybe. Thnx Alot

Ah didnt realize you are in pakistan, so yes if your phone is in your pocket or its just generally hot out, then well yeah the phone will be hotter. After further discussion, it seems like everything is normal. But just keep it under watch, not that your battery bursts inside your phone lol take care
You can try switching kernels or undervolting to reduce heat.
Thnx for the tip. will try
