[Q] running soft from card on 2.1 an idea maybe? - Android Software Development

Ok Apps2SD don't work with 2.1, too bad!
But I have an idea that maybe can work?
Back few years ago I was using Palm software that run software from SD; really not directly from SD as these install soft on demand in RAM.These where very succefull software or add to regular launcher
All stuff that didnt need to stay on RAM (for background purpose) could go to SD like games or others.
The software was not in RAM but a shortcut was and call the SD launcher, launcher install app in RAM and when exiting application the launcher send back data and app to SD or just data and uninstall app.
It was of course a delay for running and exiting but who cares!
Is there anything like that for Android?
Thank you

Am new to android (x10 my first android phone) - few questions & somtimes slow UI
Hey guys,
Xperia X10Just want to ask a couple of questions about this phone if anybody has the knowledge to help me out
Sometimes Slow UI
Ok, I have a lot of apps, on my phone. SD Card has 4512MB Free from 7552MB & my Internet Memory has used 351MB out of 465MB , according to my widgets :/ Im the type of person who saves EVERYTHING to my SD card, which makes me think that All of my internal Memory on my phone is used solely on installed apps due to the fact that 1.6 cant save apps to SD. Nt sure if this is the reason.
Anyway....
I have Advanced Task Manager, I have slected a few apps to be excluded from the auto shutdown of apps, these are,
TimeScape Provider
Timescape Plug-in M...
Mediascape Plug-in ...
Timescape Plug-in M... (Again)
MediaScape Plug-in (Again)
Sonyericsson,learningclient
Timescape (tm)
Home++
Beautiful Widgets
Internal Memory Wid
SD Card Memory Widge
Data counter widget
Advanced Task Manage...
I want my phone to have as much memory as possible. Am not to sure whether I have excluded too many things ???? or excluded things that do not need to be excluded from the auto shutdown feature.
But even, after killing all open apps (but the above). My phoness Home++ screen is somtimes sluggish... other times its fine and sometimes sluggish. Not sure why.
Turn On Phone & ALL APPS startupAnother question is that, when i turn on my phone, as soon as i push the Widget of the advanced task manager to kill all open apps, but the ones excluded it says, killed 40+ Apps. Why are so many apps open on my phone???
Do widgets have to be excluded from the list for them to work on the homescreen?
Another question i have is that do all my widgets have to be excluded from the advanced task manager list to make them work?
Thanks everyone
home++ doesnt run very good on my x10 either. very laggy
I have it open now, set to 5 screen's its working great really smooth, but for some reason, when i try again later it will be slow ??
Best suggestion I ever followed was to deinstall task manager completely.. my phone runs much better now than it did before.. Because Android is Linux based it will always hold things in memory until it's almost full (there's always a bit kept empty).. The reason is does this is because the apps in memory are likely to be the ones you'll use again and therefore it is quicker because it doesn't have to start them up.. if you try to load up something new then it will bump something that's not being used to create the space - theory being that empty memory is wasted memory..
Try it.. it worked for me.

Samsung Apps- memory hogs

My I9000 is very laggy. Not always, just most of the time.
Closing com.sec.android.app.samsungapps.una & Daily Briefings with TasKiller gets me back around 30 MB, available memory now back around 60MB & phone now useable.
I've found a couple of samsung apps in system/app, SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk is 8.9MB, I think that's the culprit. How do I stop it running? Do I just delete it? (I'd probably copy it to the SD card & backup just in case.)
Are there any others i should get rid of/prevent from starting?

I use LauncherPro so I don't (can't) use any Samsung Widgets. However, I was using touchwiz for a while, I didn't have many memory issues with it. If the widget is running you can just click and hold the widget and move it to the trash, you don't need to back it up (it'll still be installed). There are many other things running that the Samsung TaskKiller doesn't pick up, that said, Android from what I read and see myself doesn't need much more than 30-50mb free at any time (though when I'm going to start surfing and doing a lot of activity I do try to free up around 150mb, just incase) and if you happen to push the boundary it'll free up memory for you.
If you want to be able to kill more tasks get ATK (advanced task killer).
After what ive read android dont page memory the way computers do, when it runs out of working memory. Reason is lack of memory i guess. But with several gigabytes of memory in internal storage, whats the problem?
With winmo I had to share working memory with installed software (if not installing on sd).

Cyanogen Froyo Rom Questions

I know these roms don't use partitions but do use ads2sd (install to sd). Do you have to check a box like 2.1 to activate? Do all programs that are installed go to the sd or just ones that have it built in their programs?
With my rom(and likely the other CM6 based roms) you can move any app to SD, you just hit the 'move to sd' button in the app manager. You do need to enable the 'any app' part for apps that don't specifically support it.
I've tried to move all my apps to sd from cyanogen settings, but this way my home screen takes 3-4 seconds every time to load all the icons.
so i had to reinstall all my apps into the internal memory.
any advice?
Tks
Certain apps do not perform well from the SD card, do not put any apps that load widgets onto the SD card either it can cause them to stop loading. Just put games or things like that on it.
right, by using all widgets and apps from the internal memory, it works better, but sometimes it still takes some seconds to load the home icons.
i'm also using the overclock at the maximum rate, installed in the internal memory, and a task killer to kill all the apps to free memory.
i'm not very very happy about this version 2.2 on g1: is it just my problem or is it a known problem?
Probably i'll go back to the 2.1
tks a lot.

How fast is your SD card? Sounds like just a slow card.

g1? This is an Eris forum. Anyway, apps are loading slowly because you keep killing them.

i'm sorry, i didn't noticed the eris forum.
my sd is a 8gb, class 4, with partition and swap 64mb.

[Q] Widgets problem with froyo

Hi guys
I have this problem after froyo update...When I move some app to sd card or revers my UI reloads all over like when turns on phone and some widgets like message and weather widget doesnt work well. I f reset my phone but same again. Is there any solution???
Yes, move your apps with widgets back to internal memory. It's a bug or something, devs even warn you about in their app descriptions.
I dont have any app or widgets on screen that are in sd card...

android keep apps in memory that it thinks it will need later, if you don't use a task killer/ battery saver it should keep it in memory.
but many times i want to start go dialer i must wait about 3-5 seconds to open it. and android don't keep it in memory. only say to me is it possible to lock an app in memory or not?
in CM ROMs there is an option to lock home in memory. i want it for any other app such dialer.
sorry for my bad English
bump, I'm looking for this too. The way android manages apps is just terrible.
Use some other rom-etc some new

what ?
well I'm on stock eclair 2.1a and i'm also using go contacts, for me it always remains in memory..
Bump.
I'd like this too.. Using Go apps instead of stock dialer/sms, and I want them to always run!
Basically a startup script to open them in background on boot, then always keep them in memory.
My device has 1 gig of memory, so the 50 meg these apps takes up is a drop in the ocean. Free ram is wasted ram.
We're using a phone, so these should always have priority over anything, games, browser, etc. Currently it seems like they have not.
Please can anybody advice me on this?
Lotsa home apps have keep in memory function, but dialers and sms-apps should have this setting too. Guess I can contact go team to request it..
Yup, I can't believe no one thought of keeping dialers and sms apps in memory. I insist, Android's way of managing apps and killing processes is awful.
