I uninstalled adfree but ads in my browser are still being blocked. I believe I should have made the "revert" selection before uninstalling the app. How can I get back to a normal browser?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try
Install adfree, hit revert, uninstall
You probably have to reboot the phone after reverting
This is because it permanently writes to your hosts file. I believe it can be found in /etc. Uninstalling the adfree app does not revert the changes unfortunately. (just providing an explanation...in case anyone was wondering)

To get ads back you would have to flash an sbf. Instructions can be found very easily if you look around.
Just wondering: why would you want ads back anyway?
Well, you could edit the hosts file and remove the entries added by adfree. They are all redirected to the loopback address at 127.0.0.1. The only entry in hosts should be localhost. You can open this file as a text file in any good file manager to see what I'm talking about.
i had to uninstall adfree also. The reason is, lot of links I want to go to, are redirected through these services (slickdeals.com ?) . Installing adfree means those links come up as broken when clicked.
Simply re-install adfree and hit revert. That was the solution. Thanks to all who replied.

how do i remove blockbuster? etc? do i have to root?
sorry for asking dumb question. i am new to android and a new verzion customer
IF you've rooted your phone, then the easiest way is to buy Root Explorer (trust me it's worth the couple bucks) and navigate to /system/app and find blockbuster.apk or whatever it's called. Click mount r/w and longpress, then delete it. Or rename it to .bak instead of .apk
There is another way to do it using ADB, but if you're new to Android it's probably a bit more complicated than buying the app. If you wanna know how to do it on adb just let me know.
edit: Also, welcome to the Android side.
lol thanks....
i think i already rooted. im using DroidXRoot to rooted the driod x. i just install root explorer and its not working.
blockbuster.apk cannot be renamed because the file system is read-only.
Do you guys know where the files for the bloatware 3G Hotspot are? I would prefer to use wifi tether vs the included app.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Hide it then. You don't HAVE to use it.
Also when you get the read only message, as was previously stated, you have to mount it as r/w rather than read only.

Just watch out what you delete...I wasn't able to update to froyo because it was missing system apps. I ended up having to reinstall the system apps and resetting all of the permissions.
Now I just use LauncherPro to hide stuff. If you are dead set on removing them though, I am sure most of us would recommend only renaming the apk files instead of deleting. While you can definitely reinstall them, it tends to be a pain. Also, I heard that removing some apps would cause a boot loop. Haven't experienced it myself, but something to watch out for I guess.
Use launcher pro to hide as well

I accidentally deleted the Conversations.apk... for future reference how do you reinstall system apps and reset permissions?
Thanks in advance,
Brandon
Instead of renaming or deleting apps/bloatware, just use "Titanium Backup" donate version and you can freeze apps/bloatware so they don't load up. This way if you want to update the phone later, you don't have to worry about things you deleted that need to be on the phone for the update to work.

This is the tutorial that I used below from android forums
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...w-reinstall-system-apps-_as_-system-apps.html
I've tried this a bunch of different ways and I'm unable to install any .apk that I download. I haven't tried downloading the .apk on my computer first though. So here's what I've tried;
Standard web browser - can't download says file not supported
Dolphin HD - able to download, get parse error installing from dolphin. No install button for APK in Astro File Manager
Xscope - able to download, parse error on install. Install button for APK in Astro File Manager but does not install
I do have the install unknown sources option turned on in application settings.
What am I missing here? I am rooted but nothing has been done since rooting.

Any reason you are not grabbing them from the market?
Why do you not have the stock browser?
Regarding the stock browser, you don't install it, you just drop it in system/app I believe.

1. Because it's not on the market :/
2. Standard web browser = stock browser
3. What?

Download the Astro Manager from the market. Then go to settings and enable browser download.
It could be an error with the apk itself. I get those errors sometimes where certain apks don't download correctly. Try another apk and see what happens.
I don't always complain, but when I do, I #BlameWes

Really?
Dolphin and xscope are in the market. I'm asking why are you not downloading them from the market?
I then asked, why do you not have the stock browser already? You said you just rooted and did nothing else... so... did you delete it or something?

You're misunderstanding him. He's trying to download a file and he's saying what happens when he tries to download this file on all these different browsers. He already has the browsers installed.

^ LOL, son of a bitc*... yeah, my bad OP... I was trying to figure out WTH you were doing.
Yes, I would recommend what another person said and get Astro and turn on the browser download option.
The error messages are for not a complete download (at least thats what I normally get in those situations).
I use apps installer from the market to install non market apps. Try it out
Apparently I didn't write my original post thoroughly enough. I have tried Astro already.

Try ES File Explorer by EStrongs.
I don't know about a lot of you but I like using the search suggestions when using the Google search on my phone. Out of the blue the other day, my phone no longer displays suggestions. It happened after I installed a different keyboard, but even after i tried uninstalling it, suggestions still do not show. Any ideas?

Are you talking about the search function inside a browser or when you press the search button?
You may want to to unistall and reinstall the app
When I press the search button. And suggested search is on in the preferences.

Ok, my suggestion would be to uninstall the app, and then re-install it. Do you know if Google Search is installed as a data app or a system app? Easy way to check: go to settings > applications > manage applications > all, find google search, and try to uninstall it, if you can, it is data, if not, it is system.
Its system lol

Do you have root? You are also going to need a file explorer with root permissions such as root explorer or es file explorer
Yes I'm rooted. Yes I have file explorer w/ root access

Alright, go to /system/app and delete the google search app. BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN THE NAME OF THE FILE, YOU WILL NEED IT LATER. Go to the market, install google search. This actually may work, press the search button to see if you get anything. If not, copy the app from /data/app to /system/app and be sure to name it what it was before. Reboot and it should work
Hello, I am unable to disable AdBlock for viewing the program banner, you know how? I have the Rom HyperDroid-CM7-v3.0.1 [a2sd] [LEO CyanogenMod7 2.3.5] [seader_R5], thanks
Do hyperdroid roms not have a modified host file which blocks ads?..
Should just be as simple as downloading the Adfree android app from the market and selecting revert. That's what used to work for me using blueputdroid which needed ads enabled.

rom advertisement blocking, I have some programs like "free sms" so that only work if the banners are allowed, but having this block the program crashes! there is some script? I tried searching the forum but found nothing!
Anyone looking to disable the ad block built in to any of most of the roms, rename hosts file to hosts.bak
System/etc and just etc/ is the location of the hosts file.
Rename and reboot, enjoy your ads.

I have an app on my phone that Id like to get on my rooted kindle. It goes along with another app that I was able to find the apk on the net, however I cant find the apk for this app due to it being so out of date (1+ year). How do I go about creating an apk of it from tibu backup on my phone to make it work on the kindle? I tried downloading it to my dropbox, unzipping on my computer, transferring to kindle and installing that way, but it keeps coming back app not installed. Any ideas? also off topic, Im having problems with the xda app on my kindle. anytime I go to type any response or search anything, the keyboard pops up then goes away immediately. Any reason why? TIA for any and all help.
Use AppSaver which can be found in the Market. It copies the APK for all or selected apps to your SDCard location. You can then e-mail or transfer the APK to your fire.
https://market.android.com/details?...SwxLDEsImNvbS5JUUJTLmFuZHJvaWQuYXBwU2F2ZXIiXQ..
Super Manager has an APK manager which does the same thing, but you can do it on a package by package basis. It will save the filename in the Original package name or what I use, Readable Display Name.
Most of the APK's that I've moved to my KF that I could not load by other means were done via this method.
Even then, some packages simply won't install due to hardware requirements not in the KF, but you can't tell till your try.

That app is pretty cool, but unfortunately it still showed app not installed. Ill use this on another phone, but for kindle it still didn't work. Could it be because the outdatedness of the app?

Not sure... AppSaver has been working great on my Nexus S to grab apps that don't show up on the Fire Android or Amazon Market. Weird that your backed up app doesn't install. Have you tried copying it directly to the Data/app folder and restarting the Kindle (without manually installing from the Data/App folder)?
