Could somebody tell me if there is possibility of running WP7 or WM 6 or 6.5 from SD card like Android??
No, WP7 formats the SD card into a unnown format witch can't boot linux! So no Android or others for now!
I know, but i'd like to run any windows phone or mobile from SD card, like Android relased by m-deejay such as: =MDJ FroYo HD v.4.6=.

you can't run windows 7 and expect to run windows 6.5 from a sd card not possible, i seem somewhere you can run android from sd i'm not quite sure, but look first.
cotulla said in the mglr topic that his team is already at work for wm 6.5 on sd

Cotulla stated that he's working on a winmo6.5 that can be run from sd with magldr. I don't know how long it will take him if he's even successful, but cotulla's done some amazing things, so I think we'll see it done eventually.... at least I hope. I bought my HD2 originally because it was winmo, unlike a lot of people here who wanted to get rid of winmo as quick as possible. I still like winmo, but I have also grown a fondness to android and now wp7 is growing on me... and with the HD2, I will be able to run all of them! That will be great... have wp7 on nand, then android, wm6.5, ubuntu and hopefully meego from sd card... not to mention win98 and winxp emulation with qemu! I love my HD2.
I hope so. I was really looking forward to wp7 but now that I know you have to wipe wm6.5 & my android build to run it, im really disappointed. Looks like I was looking forward to nothing I was so hoping you could run wp7 & android off sd card & still have wm6 as base os. My hopes dashed

Wrong!
You can have WP7 on NAND and boot Android from SD, there is various guides for this since days ago.

Nice, I must of missed those posts. I went from an sd build to mdjs gingerbread nand rom...what a difference. battery lasts 1.5 days (some games dont work)
I tried wp7 but wanted to just mess around with it but still use android as my day phone. have you done it? what about ram builds are they beter then sd?

I'm making this thread here because I can't see anything being done to remedy this problem.
I have tried more than 5 roms that I have used in the past in SD era with MAGLDR 1.12 in the option "AD SD" and none worked. This SHOULD be easy, but it's not.
I have tried to change kernels for the new ones, thinking this would be the right way to do so, since the old ones expected haret and windows to work. This didn't work too.
To name a few...
NexusHD2-FRG83D V1.8 from Tytung (the best in the old days for a clean froyo, IMHO)
MDJ Desire HD 4.6
Topia HD and others...
None of them worked, the ONLY ONE that worked was [DL DesireZ v2.1][SD/NAND] (note, not tested version 2.2, ONLY 2.1)
It took a looong time to boot, but worked fine.
Now that we have WP7 (not everyone will want this permanently) we should have SD roms that are compatible with MAGLDR. Even because MAGLDR is way faster than waiting for WM 6.5 to boot.
I loved WM 6.5 in the days, but now, several of us don't want to deal with it anymore, and are just here for the two new OSs.
I would like to see some development in the SD ROMs again, so they can have newer and better kernels (the ones used with MAGLDR) and full compatibility with future development for MAGLDR and NAND.
We could even have two Android builds, for those who don't want WP7.
One for NAND and one for SD, like a Gingerbread and a stabler Froyo
Anyone agree with it?
Greetings, Santroph.

Problem:
Phone7 formats the sd card in an unknown file format.
That makes it presumably impossible to linux to load from there...
You would have to switch sd card
I agree with the suggestion of having dual boot (WP7/Android), in fact I even thought about it yesterday ...
What about having 3 partitions on SD ? 2 for WP7 and 1 for Android ...

Yeah I know about this, but several of us, myself included have several SD cards.
I can pass for the trouble of changing SD cards from time to time to boot a completly different OS, with several other possibilities.
And I was talking about Android NAND / Android SD combinations as well.
Like I said we could have a Gingerbread experimental in nand, but keep a really stable Froyo in SD as our main build, or the other way around, a lot of us have big enough cards to do that.
Santroph.
I'm tested lot android SD too.
PSfreedom worked only but if the DL DesireZ v2.1 is working..what's the problem?

The problem is that we only have a few SD roms working. And for example DL DesireZ v2.1 works, but DL DesireZ v2.2, which is newer and just lauched, doesn't work, the support is gone
And we don't have as much roms as we had to choose in the past. I am trying to use WP7, to see if it is a viable alternative to my daily use, but I don't want to give up Android. Since we can't have WP7 and AD Nand at the same time, SD is the only alternative, and we have to get whatever is working instead of a lot of good builds like we have in Nand now.
If the devs start to make more sd builds closer to the Nand ones (same kernels and modules, which they can do now, since they will all be using the same hardware startup MAGLDR) we would have a lot of alternatives too.
Like I said, one of the best roms we ever had, tytung NexusHD2 froyo, doesn't work.
Santroph.
P.S: I'm willing to help any dev that need help. I'm a developer too, but a software one, not a cooker
I'm not a dev but I try to get it ...I took 4GB sd and booted wp7, connect sd via usb reader to pc, copied the wp7 filesystem to my 16gb sd card...wp7 says I got 3.5GB disk space ^^...means: wp7 uses 3.5GB, 11,5GB free sd space . formatted other partition as fat32, but windows7 didn't find it. Now I'm trying around to get it working ...will post news
EDIT: WP7 got 3.5GB disk space, now booting MDJ Froyo HD 4.6 from sd card ...So I got WP7/ Android dualboot

I succeed to flash WP7 rom without SD card inserted. Inserting back the SD card after installation shows that SD storge with full size(not under WP7) and SD android rom (DL DesireZ v2.1) works fine with MAGLDR 1.12. Booting WP7 again will not destroy it, too. This may be a temporary method, while the free space left in WP7 becomes around 130MB which may not satisfy many demands .

Can you please make a kind of Tutorial?
I understood what you said, and I can probably replicate it (surely will try) but some people would be really glad to have a tutorial.
I have a single problem with your approach, my biggest card, the 16gb one, was the one used for WP7, so I will have to reformat, and since I already got my WP7 working with marketplace and activated, I don't want to mess with it.
If I only had used the 8gb or 2gb card, I would be able to do it....
Santroph.
The best way to know how to do this, would be to have a HD2 that has not a fully working copy of WP7, so we can test it as much as we can.
The biggest problem for me now, is that I don't have how to make a backup of my WP7 installation, or else I would do it and make a tutorial on how to use the dual boot.
Even with the option of using only one card, the SD rom version must be compatible, which in the present time, they are not (most of them).
Santroph.
i've readed all of thread.. but yet i don't understand if it works or not.. especially with ike2903 tutorial to format SD card method...

the pc actually read the WP7 parition (or recognized that one existed)?
I haven't bothered installing the MAGLDR yet because I am very comfortable with my setup, I have windows mobile 6.5 with android SD, however would it be possible to dual boot Windows Phone 7 with android or Windows Mobile 6.5 on the Nand? Like for the TMOUS1024 devices? I've read on the chinese site for the DFT that its possible but the instructions are very hard to understand. I can't be the only one wondering this or wanting this? Any ideas guys?
I too would love the ability to dual boot, whether it be dual-nand, or WP7 as an SD build (and Android NAND).
Any chance of this happening, devs?
Right now u can dual boot Android NAND and Android SD.
Windows 7 NAND and Android SD but this is too complex. u need to make two partitions on the SD card.
I too would like to still run wm 6.5 as my main os and boot WM7 and Android from my Sd cards. I would also like to know if this is possible.
Is it possible to boot a SD android version via magldr?
Mine freezes if I choose Boot Android SD :/

Yeah, darren wrote an excellent tutorial, it`s pretty simple to dual boot with that (the partitioning only takes loooooooong)

Dual boot from NAND only
Well, just the question I wanted to ask (OP, not the hijacking posts):
WM 6.5 (or WP7) NAND partition 1, Android partition 2.
At least that's the idea. Two OS's from the faster NAND memory, rather than the slower SD. Only applicable, of course, to the 1024MB version of the HD2. I know this is difficult, but if the chinese are doing it, why can't we ? This would just make this phone more awesome than it already is.
Can anyone answer if this is possible or not, and if not, why?

What chinese are doing it? I've never seen 2 OS's both on nand on a phone anywhere... even those cheap chinese fakes that claim to run both wm and android are just running android off the sd.
I, too, hope one day someone makes this possible... but not sure if it will happen or possible yet.
Also, HD2 NAND is not faster than a good quality SD in most cases. You might get a little better random access speed from nand, but if you find a good sd, even that is probably about equal. Even WP7 is now using SD cards as internal memory, now, but you need a good SD card that matches the NAND speed for it to work right. SD Android builds run at the same speed as NAND builds in most cases, but most SD builds aren't updated like NAND builds are.
But anyways, I agree that I would like to see 2 OS's from NAND on our phones.

I have a nice tutorial on how to do this. You have to be careful to choose the right SD Android Builds which you can use. There are only a few which are compatibe with SD Magldr. In my thread there are some of the more popular ones which has been converted to work with more coming shortly.
When Nand first came out there were a tutorial which I came across to convert SD Builds into Nand so in theory reversing the process you might be able to convert Nand back to SD and convert that to work with Magldr. It is something I have been wanting to look into for a few weeks now so I might just make it a priority of mine cause any build to dual boot with WP7 would be pretty awesome.
I think its possible, but its difficult because Windows properity OS may conflict with Androids OS so someone would have to configure it so that they both won't conflict with each other.
Thanks for the participation! That chinese bit was mostly to just stir the pot a bit .
I'm wondering that if I have 2 sd cards, can I use Android and Windows phone 7 OS on each card respectively?
If I could, I would buy one more sd card for android.
Actually, I the most like Windows Phone 7 OS among Android, WP7, Meego and WM6.5.
Could anybody tell me about it pls?
The short answer is no.
You can run Android from your SD card and still have a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM on your phone.
You can have an Android ROM flashed to your phone (NAND).
You can have WP7 flashed to your phone (NAND).
You cannot have two NAND builds flashed at the same time (e.g. Android and NAND).
Therefore the best you can do right now is to have either:
WinMo 6.5 AND Android, or
Android NAND, or
WP7
Your solution... buy another HD2
Yes, you can have WP7 on nand and attached with one sd card, and then use a different SD card to run android from. Android will not be on nand, but you can run it from sd with magldr. Thats what I'm doing so I have a lot of space for each os... I have my 16gb card for WP7, and my 32gb card I have several android builds working. Working great for me now! You have to make some changes to the init.rc file in most android builds to make them work, but there are a few that work as is. There's a couple stickied threads in the HD2 Android SD Development section.
Also, you can partition your SD card so you can have WP7 and android using the same card. Instructions also in the sd dev section.

Quite correct, sorry.

no.... it's impossible.... WP7 system not operate in that way... WP7 must be flashed to NAND and use SDcard as storage and RAM memory
it's a shame! with android is possibile and with wp7 not
I remember several months ago there was speak of cotulla creating a way to boy wm 6.5 via sd card too but i never heard anything since..maybe just because 6.5 has continued to lose favor
you cant boot WM6.5 by SD card either an doesnt SD android copy its self to RAM? WM2003 might be possible.
The clever chap has got some form or working WM5/6 Emulator working under WP7 if that has direct hardware support, im talking com ports etc, the HD2 would become perfect
course another interesting experiement would be running android via WM6 which is running on WP7, im sure it would run like **** if it was even possible but damn that would be pretty cool

Perhaps what you are thinking about was that there was some talk about a 3-in-1 DFT ROM for the US T-Mobile HD2 that would be able to run Windows Phone 7 or Windows Mobile from NAND memory and Android from the Micro SD card. When booting the phone it would be possible to choose 1 of the 3 operating systems. Other versions of the HD2 (such as the European or Asian models of the phone) do not have enough NAND memory for a 3-in-1 ROM.

i did some research on this with MS documents and i dont think its possible without it running like **** or having persistant storage issues. WM2003 didnt need persistant storage and ran mostly from RAM (thats why in the good old days if your battery died it reset!) so that might be possible although you'd probably run in to driver issues.
With Android you can more or less change what the OS does, with WM you cant
Essentially SD is very slow, you could build a form of loader that would install to SD but thats not ideal because you need to run the OS in RAM, RAM drives would do, but thats not persistant and WM didnt have a way of mirroring that data back to the SD. In essence, it was never designed to do it, and it was never designed to be changed, so its unlikely it will run from SD unless those issues could be resolved.
I think the 1GB HD2 was going to get a dual boot at one point, and this new emulator looks promising, thats about as close as we'll get i suspect, but then again, perhaps i miss understood what i saw..

Yes you can dual boot WP7 and Android, but on WP7 can be inn NAND. You have to run Android from SD card. This is the only way you can dual boot both OS's. Also you can not use apps to SD with WP7 like you can with Android. For one thing WP7 does not support removable storage at all, and two WP7 actually uses the SD card in the HD2 for the internal storage.
i know i can run wp7 and android -___- i am talking about running windows mobile 6.5 and android, both on nand, you must have misread my post

Sorry about that I did miss read it, actually when I read it last night your thread was right under a thread asking about dual booting WP7 and Android plus I had been up all night working on a bootanimation, must have been seeing double lol.....
Anyway though the answer is still the same pretty much. You can run Win Mo from NAND and boot Android from SD card. You can either do it the old fashion way by using the file explorer to open CLCAD and HARET, or you can install a dual boot app in Win Mo to do it with just. Do some googl searching and you will find several apps for this. Just so you know though you can only boot one OS from NAND no matter what OS that is.
