It's not the app you should worry about but the unsecured PC, are you sure others using the app cannot access your PC?
Install applanet from applanet.net twitter account. Then search for logmein. Works way better than phone my pc

Hi, kai v2 does not connect good with the tab-slow and poor ui.also cannot tether(?). Uninstalled and back with old version 1.5. Can download 98mb for about 15 min using kai v1.5. An hour or 2 using normal laptop connection!!!!
Other members may have different experience though.

interesting
Yet another reason I don't like Verizon.
Sprint will do it eventually. Just wait.
EVO Shift and XDA app
If I'm not mistaken, they're only gonna pull apps like pdanet but their aosp codes will still allow tether natively

This only affects stock rom users who don't use 3rd party markets or don't know about side loading like we had to do back when Google first blocked tethering apps for t-mobile with the G1. What Google is doing is nothing they haven't done before. Tethering apps can still be installed manually and is built into asop roms. In the end nothing of value was lost.

Yeah, it's a "stupid" tax. Are you too stupid/lazy to root a phone and use the root apps? I got my first android, a Shift, a few months ago and rooted it within a week. I am one of two people I know that has rooted their android out of 40 or so, some of them being programmers and IT guys. I am an English Teacher. WTF!
On a side note, I they pulled the two "tether for root users" apps from the market. Can anybody give me a working version for a sense rom on the shift for the "wired tether for root users' app? I can look up the apk on google but I don't know which one works as it seems to be a side project.
I have always used PDANet,even when my X10a was on 1.6. They are FORCING us to go online and download, all to extract and extort more money out of us,the customer,to satisfy shareholders. That's bull****!!

does any1 use security for there phone...i was thinking about downloading look out cause i been reading stuff the past few weaks about virus and malware just wondering if i should download it...cause i no it kinda slows down your fone and everything..
I use lookout. I am not as interested in the anti- virus feature as I am about the auto backup and the lost phone feature. Either way, i like lookout, it's a useful app, and maybe one day it'll catch a virus and I'll be pleased I have it.

Being that we have Linux based phones. I am not worried about a true "virus". I don't think it's going to happen. As far as a mal-ware scanner i don't use anything. Google is a information whoring company so i know the mal-ware software would be going off frequently. I do use Lookout mainly for the device tracking software, but other than that it's really not needed.
Agreed, i don't think viruses will be an issue anytime soon. The phone locater would be a good idea to have to find the lost phone. But I have not lost a cell phone ever.

Nope, never have, never will.

Give it a try. It's free and you can always remove it later if you decide you don't want it anymore.

I use seek droid as a phone locator and I have a security password so you can not use my phone without knowing my pin number. These are mainly for if the phone gets lost or stolen. I do not use any sort of antivirus because personally I am not worried about viruses on an Android device.
I've had lookout since my MT3G because I don't think it was out when I had my g1 haha but its always better to be safe than sorry plus the device tracker (you could download "where's my Droid" from the market, you just have to text your phone with a keyword you set and it gives exact GPS locations. pretty useful )

I've seen a little about this - but couldn't find the answer.
Sorry if I'm repeating on someone else's thread.
I've got a Rooted (EC07) Continuum right now & just came from a Droid 1 (which I loved).
I can't find a way to remove the 3G Mobile Hotspot app from Verizon.
On my D1, I previously used Wireless Tether 2 & it was so awesome.
No when I open up the 3G otspot, it takes the device that is hooking up to my hotspot to a Verizon web page that requests a subscription.
I just want to use it free again, like on my D1.
Any suggestions on how I could do this?
I have already tried downloading other Wireless Teher apps apps & none of them seems to work properly.
Thanks.
I suppose you could remove the app with an explorer or Titanium Backup. I doubt it would get rid of it in the settings menu. I use open garden, and it works fine (assuming you aren't trying to connect with something that can't use ad-hoc)

Why not you guys check out wireless tether beta 7 or whatever they are onto now, and go to settings, and set it as a fascinate xD then you can actually use it as a regular network, not adhoc xP
Also, I think 3g hotspot is a part of settings.apk if I remember correctly xP so you can't really get rid of it :l

thats funny... I googled wireless tether beta7, and this post is the first hit that comes up...
here is the site for it.

The app is built into the framework of the ROM I believe, or is tied into another piece of the ROM that can't be removed. The only way to really "remove" it is to use a launcher that allows you to hide app icons and just remove it from view.
Barnacle wi fi tether works

Thanks guys.
I appreciate the info. Just got wifi tether 6.
Also you can "freeze" 3g hotspot, and anything else that's annoying you, using "Bloat Freezer", found in the market for $1.99. Or with Titanium Backup Pro (paid version) which is worth its weight in gold anyway.
that literaly does nothing except prevent the app from running and the app dosnt run in the background when your not using it. the bloat freezer is ment for apps using gps and updating weather that drains your battery.
Is there any way to use my laptop keyboard with the A500?

Have you looked at droid vnc (don't know if there is something else similar). I thought I saw another app that would also work, but haven't tried anything yet.
I did. I couldn't get DroidVNC to run on the tablet without crashing.

Ugh, sorry, I was planning to try it out myself but hadn't had a chance yet. There is another thread on androidforums about this also with some possible usable apps:
http://androidforums.com/android-applications/8858-remote-control-my-phone.html
You dan do it wit WiFiKeyboard that is in the market
Just tried that wifikeyboard and seems to work well for me. hopefully it is what the OP was looking for too
I use it to get cheats in gta 3 ;p
There is this... haven't tried it.. http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...blet-android-phone-your-pc-other-android.html
And other than that I have a Microsoft keyboard that has a little 2.4 ghz dongle and it works great. Mouse works too. If you really want the keyboard-tablet experience. Lags in not-native roms.. perfect in gmail, talk and a few others.. My two cents.
And of course there's always the transformer..
