Set the time and date of the phone and computer back to like 1/10/2011 and it should work.
For some reason the spoof'ed developerservices.windowsphone.com address to your local machine rejects the HTTPS 443 request if the date is correct. I think it was a built in kill switch by the original devs of ChevronWP7. Because the program can tell whether if the phone is pin-locked or not and will display a message accordingly meaning it definitely has a connection.

Setting the date back seems to have no effect here. I changed the date of the computer and the phone to the 1st of january 2011. Reconnected the phone, waited until sync to zune finished and retried. Still the same problem.

Thanks! Was the developer services in the HOSTS file that fixed for me.

it work properly for me ... if you sync with zune its automatickly broke the chevron unlock... just go step by step and you can unlock your phone withou connection issus usb error...GL & HF

what helps is just to sync for example one mp3 with zune before,t hen run chevron

doesn't works for me :s :s

How do you clear port 443? And how do you delete the host file after typing in cmd.exe?

yes....i do it....but...it's the same error...aaarrrhhhhh....
For two days the same error....I can not understand why, and I have done everything ... sure ...
please, help me...
P.S.
My os is a 64 bit, but i tried also a 32 bit so....windows 7 ultimate in both case...

i think its enught try this step:
connect hd2 to pc via usb ,
zune start and sync.
you must have UNLOCKED SCREAN not black screen not lock screan!!
your devie must be on.
navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts double click and open with NOTEPAD...
look down and REMOVE!!!!!all this text from the host file:

if its removed put X to close the notepad, its open dialog windows and you click to yes save it.
after that go to chewron and run as administrator
and just unlock the device

for me it worked only when I closed all the messenger clients (skype, ym, oovoo, live), not only skype...you can try this too

Very helpful, Im assuming it worked because it gave me the option to "relock" the phone?

Doesn't change anything for me with Xp pro. Always same error but it's certainly normal caus' i'm not able to instal wP7 sdk

Success!
My problem was that I had no internet connection in Zune.
I only use my Android phone to tether to the internet, and this whole time I wasn't tethered online.
It seems Zune MUST have an internet connection, and the phone MUST be in airplane mode for this to work.

[Q]WP7 + Chevron connection issue

After following the normal guides, this is what I have completed so far using Windows XP SP3:
1) Install Zune
2) Install the certificate file on the phone + regedit the PC
3) Connect the phone to the PC
4) Zune finds the phone and is able to connect
5) Chevron opens, I tick the two boxes, but then errors with 'I am unable to communicate...'
To resolve I have tried:
Ensuring hosts file is not read-only
Delete any entries for windowsphone in hosts file
Put phone into airplane mode
Run chevron as administrator
Disable all A/V and F/W
Disable all network adapters / wireless etc
Can anyone suggest anything else to resolve?
You DEFINATELY need to install Windows phone 7 SDK- i had the same issue, i could resolve it by installing the SDK.
But that can only be installed on windows vista/7 right? Not on XP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914596
excellent, thankyou kind sir. Will give it a go. Apols for not searching hard enough!
ah,
That didn't work. YOu need the developer tools installed before you can install this and that needs windows vista/7 anyway.
RIght, have finally managed to install everything. Still no working
64bit WIN 7
Is the chevron7.exe working on 64bit WIN7 or only on 32bit version?
I give up..
Have installed Zune and developer tools, spent all day on this and I'm no futher. Chevron does not work.
For me too.. Chevron doesn't work.
I have the same problem. I got it unlocked, locked it again and now i can't unlock it anymore

Hi,
Make sure you don't forget this one:
(you need to close skype and disable network adapter.. hamachi.. wireless.. etc)
windows phone sdk is the Microsoft Visual Studio Express for Windows Phone?
I finally managed to unlock!
This probably won't help the people who can't re-unlock, but the final issue at my end was that I was using a web proxy. The Zune service uses the domain defaults for proxy settings (which, for me, is set to automatic discovery). I noticed with Process Monitor that most http requests from Zune went through the Privoxy proxy on my server. (Which of course, does not know about how ChevronWP7 redirects developerservice.microsoftphone.com to the fake local service.)
After disabling the proxy and rebooting (to make sure the Zune *service* (not the app) picks up the change), ChevronWP7 worked as advertised. Note, however, that I needed to click "Unlock" twice - the first time I got the usual connection error.
I hope this helps someone!
I think that I´m going to have to give up on WP7. At least untill they come out with a better chevron. I´ve been working on this since WP7 first was announce on DFT´s website.

I´ve tried a thousand times.
I had the same problem. I closed all applications that used up the internet, including my web explorer. Then tried again and it worked fine.
I gave up.. however I then used another Windows Vista PC (instead of my windows XP SP3) and all worked fine.

Unlocking your phone and sync apps...it works!!!!

Ok guys...This is what i did to Unlock succesfully my WP7-HD2 using Chevron..
These are the steps i made and it worked just fine and i deployed my apps succesfully on my device:
0.5)Type regedit in start/Run and find this key...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone \ProxyPorts]“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
I personally deleted this key and remade it... It's a 32 bit Dword value..Right click, New, Dword value... add this in Data Value -> 69C5
and press ok! Rename the file to "DeviceReg" without the quotes.
1) Open Notepad with Administrative rights using right click and open as Administrator. Go to FILE/OPEN and paste this on the search bar
i.For Windows NT and Windows 2000
a.C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc
AND
ii.Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
a.C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
2)Double click Hosts file...
It should open in Notepad..
3)At the end of the page you will see 192.168.10.1 Windows Phone (or something like that)...Remove this and save the file by pressing FILE/SAVE..
It should be saved just fine..
4)Plug your phone to usb and go to device manager..
Uninstall: Windows Phone usb from there and unplug the phone..
5)Restart the computer.........
6)Make sure you have Windows Updates enabled... When you plug the phone in Windows should say that usb device doesn't work and you need to isntall the drivers... Press Install and wait....
7)Drivers should be installed from Microsoft...Now go to Zune and sync the device...
8)Make sure you isntall the Cetification to your device via email!
Open Chevron, check both boxes and press Unlock...You are done...
9)Open Market place from PC and download something....Check the 3 boxes and Press deploy..It should now say "connecting with phone" and after that "sending file"
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Results may vary but it worked for me!
Special thanks to member "eried" for his time yesterday!
Can't get past 8.
Chevron can't connect: Oh oh message. Before Chevron did start but could not connect while trying to unlock again.
Even now the phone is off flight mode, zune is telling that the phone has no internet while the phone have internet.
Had everything working but after update to 7004 by zune nothing is working anymore. Tried everything i read and have much experience with modding devices.
As i told the results may very...
I also know about modding devices since my Sony Ericsson W800 and all Sony devices i owned after it and Iphone which i sold before 4 months to get my HD2...
Anw...I had strange problems with Chevron... I unlocked it like 4 times and after that it says can't connect with my device.. Also Market places didn't work in the first place... Now with this guide i made i succesfully unlocked my device and deployed 5 apps already on my phone..
And also try this on your pc:
Type regedit in start/Run and find this key... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone \ProxyPorts]“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
I personally deleted this key and remade it... It's a 32 bit Dword value..Right click, New, Dword value... add this in Data Value -> 69C5
and press ok! Rename the file to "DeviceReg" without the quotes.
When you are done with this try again the guide from the begining!
ok, thanks for your help, had the registerkey already checked, did your workaround again but stuck by 8. Chevron Oops...
Thanks anyway

[Best Solution] ChevronUnlocker connection issue.

Drakosha said:
Hello to all!
I think, I've finally found the reason why Chevron almost never works. After a few days of struggle, I managed to successfully unlock my HD2 three times in a row, all by the same trick.
The idea is to change the IP which Chevron emulates DURING the process of jailbreak. Here's step-by-step.
1 - Disable LAN card in your PC (Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections\ right click on "Local Area Connection" and choose "disable"). It is very important to disable ALL connections, but you MUST remember which one is used for Internet access (see below, why).
2 - Do all the standard steps of unlock - install certificate, start WPConnect e.t.s. When Chevron fails to unlock - LEAVE IT OPEN.
3. Start Notepad and open hosts. Delete lines added by Chevron (at the bottom). Save. LEAVE NOTEPAD OPEN.
4. Press Win+R and enter IPConfig /flushdns , press "enter". CMD window will blink for a second - that's normal.
5. Press Win+R again (there will be IPConfig /flushdns typed already), but DO NOT PRESS "ENTER", just leave this window open.
6. Now the trick. Start WPConnect. WHILE it connects, continue to repeatedly press "Unlock" button in Chevron, until the black CMD window of WPconnect disappears. Chevron will fail to do its job, but that's in fact is the very thing we need.
7. Now, do not touch Chevron window, just return to Network Connections and ENABLE yor LAN card.
8. Go to Notepad and JUST CLICK "Save", do not alter anything inside.
9. Return to the window with the typed command IPConfig /flushdns . Press Enter.
10. Start WPConnect, WAIT until it disappears, and press "Unlock" button in Chevron. You're done - this time unlock would work.
At least, it worked for me 3 times in a row, while NO other ways worked.
Best regards - Draco.
P.S. If you have firewall - disable it before doing anything.
P.P.S. Win7 from NAND + MDJ Desire HD 4.4 from SD = best phone in the world

I have followed other guides posted here before, but none is as reliable as this one. Flawless. (Note that Zune is not required at all during this process, WPConnect is used)
Extra precautions :
1) Make sure port 443 is not used. You can open command prompt and type netstat -aon. From there, check which ip ends with 443 and check its PID number.
Once you have acquired the PID, go to command prompt and type tskill <PID number>.
2) Close skype.
3) Turn off your antivirus / firewall.
4) Make sure that during executing WPconnect.exe you're phone should NOT in be in sleep-mode/locked.
5) Make sure your host file located in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\ is not read-only.

WPconnect is an executable used to connect your PC to wp7 devices without having to open ZUNE.
You can find out more about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10609273#post10609273
I test all solution, why not these one? I will reflash WP7 and test
Thanks for the TIP !
Ok.. now I know.. but the major problem is that I have Windows Xp.. so no chance to try tha trick... :-(
As I click on WPConnect.exe it just blinks for 1 second an closes then. What am I doing wrong?!

Can you read what is says in the window before it closes? Usually WPconnect just opens for 2-3 seconds and after a connection is established it will close back. If it says "Connection is established" or something like that, means you're good to go.
Read the steps carefully.
Ahah, i remove WP7 from my device but i test WPConnect, got the same problem... So i made a quickscreenshot, to see the error message, this is it !!
or this one!
yeah, that's just the same as I get when running WPConnect.
Yes but does it solve your problem?
I post 2 screenshot;
-Compltly close Zune
-Connect the device
Here's what i did, connect the phone to PC via USB, let zune opens and sync. Then close zune. Rune WPconnect.exe. It should say "Trying to establish a connection with blablabal" then "Connection established" and it will close. Try that.

Hum, only (no lock--> set to never..)
I did, step by step what |OP| Posted !
I got so excited when I found this particular thread. Of all the hacks and mods for Chevron out there this one seemed to be the most realistic solution. I have to XP machines. I managed to install Windows Phone Development Tools on one(everything works except emulator and debuger) I downloaded the WPDTOctober2010Update_en.msp, and insured it installed to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK's\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\WPConnect.exe.(REBOOTED)
After I set up my HD2(again) Followed all the sugested settings, and downloaded Chevron cert via WIFI email. I began the steps on the 1st post.
1) I disabled all connections
2) I plugged in phone and through file explorer double clicked on WPConnect.exe and I got this error
" C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK's\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\WPConnect.exe is not a valid Win32 application."
I bet if I had WINDOWS 7 this would not be the case. Any help, advise solutions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you doing a full hard reset and then reinstalling the certificate? It should work after the PortalUrlProd and PortalUrlInt values get returned to the default.
yes I have done by pushing + and - volume button

On #5 did you use touchXplorer to copy that file to Windows directory?
Remember Zune will lock you HD2 everytime you connect your usb. use the crack in this forum to prevent that.
are you using windows XP?
Also try putting chevronwp7.exe in the root of your c: drive and run as administrator. I've seen people say that it isn't necessary, but I had to.
Also if you're using vista or windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled.
besides turning off the firewall, i turned off the windows defender service.
It might do the trick.

Thanks to everybody

Like audit angel was saying the default year is 2010, and the solution was there for me.
When I changed the year to 2011 Chevronwp7 did his job.
