I have a my touch 3g 32b tmobile verson. i have spl 1.33.007
I was flashing one of my back ups and forgot to rename my back-ups to avoid confusion
i always flash g-apps to ensure no errors after I flash to a back up.
but i fashed back to the stock 1.6
now none of my g-apps are visable or usable
I never flashed the engineering spl because i was flashing cyanogen easy
now im stuck with no recovery and the perfect spl
fastboot is not working
I created a gold card and i i try to install a full nbh and I get "main version is older" failed
flashrec wont do anything and clockworkmod wont even open! it force closes
i can still install apps from the sd but I need to fix, the phone goes to voicemail and only recieves text and logs onto wifi.
hard reset wont work! I tried! somebody help!
Put a recovery image on your sdcard and then open Terminal on the phone and type this:
su
flash_image recovery /path/NameOfTheRecovery.img (for example flash_image recovery /sdcard/Whatever.img <- if Whatever.img is on the root of the SDCard)
terminal
how do i access that? is it and an app or can I download the apk from someplace.
you can download an emulator from the market.

i have root access
I just think flash_image isnt on my phone.
also i dont have it connected to the computer either
You'll need to push the flash_image binary to your phone. Refer to mumilover's rooting guide.

Have you tried flashrec? Navigate to http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec using your phone's browser, install the latest version of the apk and run it. Rename the recovery image you want to use (prefferably AmonRA's 1.7.0) to recovery.img and put it on your SD card. Then open flashrec, type /sdcard/recovery.img in the box and hit flash.
Look here is very easy and with video

Good luk .
For the apk files as linda manager ......etc you can find it by using search via Dolphin browser or google . put all in the root of sdcard .
I was able to do it with the roottools fairly easy. now i got another non pressing issue.
i have Hboot 1.33.007 s on G
i know its a variations of the perfected SPL
and i see the difference in performance on roms due to the limited amount of partition space for the system some apps works while others dont and i will reflash the same file and that issue will be fixed while another breaks
reassuring me that the rom is too big for the partition......so where do i get the best danger SPL and once I get it?
once i get it which Recovery is the best to use to flash as I cant get fastboot commands from the bootloader due to "S on G"?
I just formatted my phone back to factory settings. I am in the process of installing all my apps again and just realized I purposely never updated my ROM Manager to the latest version because of the new permission is asks for (the one that lets ROM Manager use your account authentication information). So, is there any way for me to download an older version of ROM Manager?
Thanks!

GREAT, I AM ON JFD NOW - HOW DO I ROOT?
You are likely still connected to your PC and booted up to the T-Mobile jingle. Great, drop the notification bar down and mount your phone...
HERE ARE THE STEPS TO FOLLOW....
BUT FIRST... WHAT UPDATE.ZIP FILE DO YOU NEED?
There are two options here. Choose before you start.
A – an update.zip (633KB) that roots your phone only. You can then install Rom Manager from the Market to flash CWR (Clockwork Recovery) and install custom ROMs. There have been issues with CWR not flashing properly recently (June 2011), hence Option B.
B – use the other update.zip (1.7MB) and this will flash CWR for you – allowing you to immediately flash a custom ROM.. I do this because it's faster.
So, A or B?
1.
A: Download this update.zip file to root your phone. You plan to install Rom Manager to flash CWR and a new ROM later.
B: Download this update.zip file to flash CWR... you will need to flash a custom ROM for Root. I prefer this method.
Also, download the ROM you plan to flash (assuming you are not sticking on JFD – why would you).
LINK TO THE DEV SECTION
2. Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/
3. Unplug the USB (assuming you are still connected after using ODIN)...
Hold down volume up + volume down + Power for about 9 seconds.
If you prefer, you can power off your phone, then hold in all 3 buttons to boot into recovery, I don't see the point in waiting for the phone to power off.
This will get you to a recovery menu (blue/purple text) after some yellow text.
4. In this (the stock recovery menu) select 'Reinstall Packages'
Use volume to navigate + power to select.
5. It will cycle a bit, you will see that yellow text again, then it will return to the stock recovery. Select Reinstall packages again.
You are now in CWR (clockwork recovery).
You can either reboot, flash your new ROM or make a backup now... I COVER HOW TO FLASH ROMS LATER – JUST KEEP READIN BELOW
Yeah, it is that easy!!
Click to collapse
Give S15724N a thanks. The first update.zip will just root you. The second with boot you into CWR so that you can flash a custom ROM (all of which have root)
edit: here is the post so you can grab the files
Hey, I am trying to successfully get a new ROM, and in all the forums and such I have read tell me that with the Desire Z/G2 I need to flash the newest ClockWorkMod recovery. So i have downloaded a couple different recovery .img files.
Now when i use Emulator, i put in;
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recoveryname.img
and it says
flash_image: not found
I dont understand why ROM Manager doesnt give the newest recovery file as an option.
Can anyone help me in this situation?

Follow these instructions. You can't go wrong. Make sure you back out of the app and go back in. It sets the cursor to the correct posistion. All you have to do is put the .img in the root of your sd. Hope this helps, it did for me.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
wait, so why aren't you just flashing the recovery through ROM manager? Are you trying to install CWR 3.0+?
yes I am trying to flash cwm 3.0, and it is not an option with ROM manager. I will try the Youtube instructions. Thanks
Ok so I tried the instructions with the Youtube video, and when i do the cmd promt in Terminal i get this;
Cant open device: "/dev/block/mmcblk0"
error in reading mbr!
failed with error: -1
I have the recovery.img file (not zip) on the sd card, I used root mamnager to put it in the bin file within system. but the instructions on the video say to use astro and it doesnt give an option to go as deep as root manager.
Thanks
Yes unzip it but make sure its in the root of your sd. That means not folders at all. That's the command that he is making in the video. I don't think you can flash cwm 3.0 in rom manager, only revert back to earlier recoveries, for froyo roms.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Make sure the file is named what your commanding it to be. Make sure its recovery.img no caps.

OK so I am trying this too. I am putting the recovery image directly to the root of my sd and I can see that it's there. But in TE, I put in the commands and it tells me
flash_image: not found
It's there!!!! I can see it when I have my phone connected. What am I doing wrong?
Edit: I am running stock rooted. Does this have something to do with it?
Rooted running a stock rom? Honestly I can't tell you all I know is I'm running custom rom. If I had to guess I would say it doesn't. All I can say is I had issues until I watched the video, sorry I can't help more. Only thing I would say to do is wipe everything you did and try redoing it.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I can say you should only have one .img in your sd to not confuse it. I'm pretty sure you can use command prompt on your pc if you have access to one.

Ok, I think I am getting somewhere, I was searching my sdcard on my computer, and I realised that the root of my sdcard is not called "sdcard" so in the command i was doing it wrong, It is called "HTC DESIRE" so i did it in Emulator and it worked i rebooted my phone in recovery and I am now rocking the new ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.5...
Thanks all for the help, Hope what i discovered helps someone else.
Wait, Wait, Wait... I just screwed it up again... I went into ROM Manager after I successfully flashed 3.0.0.5. and it was not showing that in ROM Manager, so I tapped on flash latest recovery, and damnit... it replaced all my hard work with the 2.5 recovery... I have tried to repeat the flash process a few times with 3.0, and i have not been successful... Help... I dont know what to do now!!!
Instead of flashing the recovery in rom manager, after you've inputted the
su
# flash_image recovery sdcard/recovery.img
you can just type in after it
# reboot recovery
and it will reboot you into CWM 3.0. Be sure to perform a nandroid backup under 2.2 first and when you want to go back to a froyo rom, you'll have to flash the 2.5 recovery image again.
Yes, you will not see it in rom manager. Just reboot into the recovery and if you see orange and cwm 3.0 your good. Just repeat the steps.

"flash_image: not found" means that you do not have the 'flash_image' binary installed. Follow the guide here to get 'flash_image' installed on your device (the 'flash_image' binary is attached).
As for why ROM Manager not giving the newest recovery as an option, ROM Manger isn't fully compatible with the latest recovery as it just came out. The latest recovery (I'm assuming you're referring to v3.x) is only for Gingerbread based ROM's, if you're trying to install a Froyo based ROM then you should be using recovery version 2.x.

The phone is stuck at 2.3. I'm puzzled to say the least. I attempted to manually download and install both 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 with the same result, the install was aborted with an error related to my /system/build.prop file. I suspect I need 2.3.1 before I can go to 2.3.2 or 2.3.3 but I see no way to update to 2.3.1. I just replaced a Vibrant with the Nexus S for the NFC features and I need 2.3.3 on my phone to get the latest NFC updates. I'm stuck. I called T-Mobile and Samsung and neither was any help. I bought the phone unlocked and swapped by sim card from my Vibrant to the Nexus S. The phone reports no system updates available. I don't want to root the phone at this point, I just want to update from 2.3.0 to 2.3.3. Anyone know what to do before I return it to Best Buy? It's not much use to me as a development device if I can't update it. Thanks.

I finally found a link to the full 2.3.3 ROM that allowed me to finally update.
i was stuck on 2.3.1 and my I updated to 2.3.3 without any problems, i thought at first i would need 2.3.2 but it worked and now i'm on 2.3.3.
Also to anyone who cares, haven't lost my data connection yet after upgrading it to 2.3.3

Well, I can tell you how to do this but you'll have to boot a custom recovery. No flashing no nothing, just boot it. You'll also lose all your apps. If that all sounds okay then follow the steps below:
You'll need to download a few files:
Download the Google Nexus S CWM file here (its at the bottom of the list) - http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html
Download the Android SDK here and install it following the instructions included on the page - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
And finally download the Stock 2.3.3 NANDroid backup here - http://www.mediafire.com/?weataw4w7v1anl4
Now that you've got those files and everything installed (I'm going to assume you know a bit about running android commands through a computer but if not I can elaborate later) put the recovery image in the Android SDK tools folder and open a command line program. CD to the directory of your SDK tools folder and type this command in:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-crespo.img
Once you're in CWM use the volume buttons to highlight and the power button to select the highlighted option. Now go into mounts and storage and mount USB storage. Unzip the Stock 2.3.3 file to the root of your SDcard (or just move the unzipped folder, all of it exactly as it unzips there). Eject the drive from your computer, and then unmount it on the phone. Now go to backup and restore and choose restore and choose the backup in there. This will replace all of your internal storage with completely bone stock android 2.3.3
Thanks kenvan for the recovery process. I tried it and it works too. I needed the right files then I was able to update. All I could find initially were update zips that patched from one minor release to the next. I finally tracked down the full 2.3.3 ROM on another thread.

if you have clockwork mod use this as a restore and you will have a rooted 2.3.3 its the easiest way to do it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?c1ww7zb837uycbk
just unzip and put the backup folder in your clockworkmod recovery folder boot into recovery and restore 2.3.3 takes 2 minutes and you will boot up with a rooted 2.3.3

EDIT: I see you solved it.
Hi to all.
Just a line to tell all you, that I give my tablet to my wife so right now I don't have it and I can't give you support 100%. I just loosing my sight and the effort to look at the tablet so close is making things worst, so I must refrain from using tablets from now. Thanks for all. Anyway I will stick around to read the forums.
Before downloading please read this warning:
This is a pure stock US GEN2 Rom with only su and Superuser added, if you have any problem with this ROM, you have the problem with Acer, not me. If you start to flash ROMs without knowledge and without knowing what you are doing, you can blame only on yourself, learn and read before flashing any ROM.
I have a family, so I don't work weekends at my work or HERE! I can't answer to each one when you want, this is not customer service, and I don't earn anything from this. Specially when some people don't read the instructions posted here, or their answers are easily found here. I'm not a boring teenager without any life beside being 24/7 here. So vent your frustration elsewhere.
Thanks, and remember: Read, Read, and read before doing anything.
I just cooked a stock HC 3.2 Rom for the iconia a500 US version (GEN2) already rooted.
I only added su (linked to xbin) and Superuser. The rest remains exactly as the Acer Stock 3.2 US version Rom. You need to have the CWM recovery on your tablet to be able to flash it (Use the Acer Recovery Installer from the market).
Don't try to flash it using the acer stock flash method.
I have done the install in my tablet and it's working great. if you updated the Superuser app to the latest version (3) you will need to clean the data from settings after flashing this rom or else you will get a FC, that's because the Superuser rom version is lower than the one in the market. The same can happen with Maps and other updated ROM stock applications versions.

How I made it:
You can do it by yourself. Is very easy. Extract the 500 or 501 stock ROM and substitute the updater-script in the following path for my ROM script extracted from my rooted ROM:
\update\META-INF\com\google\android
Then add su to the following path folder (bin): \update\system\bin
and Superuser.apk to: \update\system\app folder.
The script will take care to properly link su to xbin and to flash everything with the correct permissions.
Don't forget to delete the bootloader.blob file from the main update folder. Compress everything and rename the archive as you wish. Flash with CWM.
You can download Superuser and su from the following place (creator):
Superuser
By the way the same procedure can be use to root another country version ROMs like GEN1, EMEA or similar. So if you are not using an US device you can still modify your country's ROM to work rooted.

Only cache and dalvik wipe. But the recovery loader does it (cache partition delete) before flashing any rom, but i did manually using cwm just to be sure. No data or user data delete needed. If you got a FC with built in apps like Videos, Maps, Books, Nook, try to delete the apps cache and data and update them to the latest market version.

You can do it by yourself. Is very easy. Extract the 501 stock ROM and substitute the updater-script in the following path for my ROM script extracted from my rooted ROM:
\update\META-INF\com\google\android
Then add su to the following path folder (bin): \update\system\bin
and Superuser.apk to: \update\system\app folder.
The script will take care to properly link su to xbin and to flash everything with the correct permissions.
Don't forget to delete the bootloader.blob file from the main update folder. Compress everything and rename the archive as you wish. Flash with CWM.
If it's sound too complicate, I can do it for you, but I can't give you any guarantee is gonna work since I don't have a a501 and I don't know how different the update.zip archives are.
You can download Superuser and su from the following place (creator):
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
I hope it helps you.
By the way the same procedure can be use to root another country version ROMs like GEN1, EMEA or similar. So if you are not using an US device you can still modify your country's ROM to work rooted.

I really don't know. I don't use one. But if it worked on 3.2 stock unrooted, then it must work exactly the same way in this ROM, since nothing was deleted, I only added su and Superuser.apk.
