i called using google voice (its free ) or skype also (toll free)
Call the US Customer care and ask for an activation
i called three times or something. because one time the guy said that you need to contact your region's customer service. Other time she thort that i wanted to activate my pc or something and asked for my product key
Last time got it correctly had to wait for like 5minutes to get the code

I got mine activated. Used Yahoo Messenger to call up US Microsoft Support (Toll Free)
Note that before you activate make sure that your Windows Live ID is an US one. There is no Marketplace or XBL support for India yet!

I activated my phone. But couldn't download any apps from marketplace. It always says, Couldn't do this now. Try again a little later.

Go to settings. Change the region & language settings in your phone to united states. That is where the market is located.

i called microsoft US (18009365700)(use skype)
find some location in cannada (use google map)
tell your india mobile number
they will give your activation code .(tell phone HTC HD7 and email (live acount)).
only problem is to understand their english ... shooo .. i made it with crap english.

i'm proud to say, that I have an activated WP7 HD2, and because we want to help each other, i want everyone to get that pleasure with an activated HD2 like i have. You can sideload apps, what is very cool if you only want to test WP7, but if you seriously want to use is (like I do) it would be better if you get a key. There's no keygen outside for WP7 but it's not necessary, because activate it is as easy as flashing WP7

In fact, nearly every country has a Microsoft central, and to call this central is much cheaper than calling in the USA, but there are much people who beg from other users for a key.
And most of them don't know, that also can search in google for their local MS phone number (or better if I say they are too lazy to do that), so I want to list the MS phone number for each country. (PM me if you have a country that I should add).
If you call such a number (Monday - Friday; 8am-6pm) only wait until someone picks up, don't dial anything. Just say you want to activate your HD7 and they maybe will refer you to another person. Wait... There you say again you want to activate your new HD7 and they will ask you for your name and your phone number. It must not be correct, they don't verify it, it's only for their database. Finished. They generate a new key for you and tell it to you. It's better if you write this key down, because it's too long to remember it ^.^.
The key has 20 digits or letters.
Sample (only random characters, no real key ^^):

Enter this key and you are available to sign into your Windows Live Account. Before you can download anything now, you have to make your phone think it's a HD7, there are several manuals, how you can do this, here is one good manual:

If you have done everything you are nearly finished, but there is one point you have to do. Open Zune on your computer and sign in with your Live ID (if you haven't done it already). Enter your country and other details and remember. If you enter a birthday younger than 18 years, to have to enter a second "parents" Live ID. If this step is finished you can download from the Marketplace on your phone and in Zune.

I've written the time, when the customer service is available => 8am-6pm.
And you don't have to choose an option when you call this number.
Call the number and don't dial anything... wait until someone picks up the phone!
i just rang, they bent over backwards to get me a key and put me straight through to generate me one. it all failed at the final hurdle though, apparently i need to call back in 72 as they have ran out of keys. darn. UK here.

I have also been advised to call back in 72 hours (UK Helpline).
Just to clarify, select options 2 and then 7 and this will transfer you to the correct department.

MS have a dedicated WP7 team in the UK, I've just managed to get my activation code from them, it did require an IMEI code.

Keygen won't be available for WP7 cause in the help center they create a random code and register it in their database. Only if they register a code, you can use it.

lol, I think I'm gonna buy one more HD2(this time, I'll go and get it personally, AFTER I ensure that everything works) and when I install WP7 on that, I can try saying I have an iPhone or some BlackBerry. That would be REALLY funny.
Just to inform all Czech guys, in Czech Republic they are also giving codes without problem. Called, gave email and number and received code in about two minutes without any additional questions. Marketplace works without problem, but its impossible to buy apps, because microsoft probably only accepts cards issued in supported countries. Free aps and trials are working fine and it seems that the amount of apps is the same as in US market.

Just spoke to a guy at MS Germany and told him at least 5 times that I was installing WP7 on an HD2. "Not a problem, sir, we have a lot of people using the HD2.". In Germany they have to ask if you mind the call being recorded or not, so I took the option to be recorded and made extra sure that I mentioned that I was in fact going to install it on an HD2. Keep my a** covered
I now have my activation code, which took about 3 mins to get. All he needed was my phone number, name and e-mail addy.

Seems like their official stance differs from one another, but mostly I think MS couldn't give a damn about us activating WP7 on a HD2

Do not press anything when asked so, just let the automated system run 3 times and you will get connected to an actual human person after that

i told her that i buyed a htc hd7 by ebay, and i need a activation code
because windows live ask for it. the ms woman said, you have a htc phone?
no problem! she ask me for my name, phone number, and email adress,
and than she gave me the code.
whether hd2 or HD7 is not relevant. except that one has a HTC!!!

For me the chat only shows up with Internet Explorer. Are you using some other browser?
Also, if they tell you to contact your local MS support, tell 'em you've already tried calling but noone picked up the phone. It worked for me, atleast and I'm in Finland.

I have tried MS chat and they told me, that they recognized that I am from Czech republic.
So I used VPN to U.S. and that worked.
I got mine that way too. All I did was download a program called Hotspot Shield proxy and then went to the chat link and clicked the chat link that says "Always Open" and said I had a LG Optimus 7 and reset it and can't get in to the marketplace etc. All done now!
Hell this worked!!!! i gave full name, uk phone number. was not even asked what phone model nor nothing. the guy was even as helpful as to tell step-by-step on how to put the activation key on my phone... like hey! i just installed a wp7 on a hd2, i think i can manage that xD

Activate WP7 in Indonesia works.
call MS Indonesia and tell them u want to activate ur WP. he will directed you or give you number and ext. or just call +62 21 2552870 press 1(for indonesian langguage) then 8 (for activation)
they will ask you ur phone type(just tell it was hTC hd7. ), indonesian number(mine was XL), and Email(must be live or hotmail). then they give u 25 digit activation code,
no IMEI.

So I ordered an HD2 from Ebay, with WP7 installed and activated, however the seller said that he doesn't have the code anymore.
I have 2 questions:
Is the code generated for a Live account, or for a single device?
Is it stored somewhere after activation? If so, how do you get it?
Just call MS support, they will give you one without too many questions (for me it was only phone n° + email). Just say you bought a windows phone, which is asking for an activation code.
I don't think you can get a number back, you have to store it somewhere to be able to use it again. I think it is linked to a live account, which can have more than 1, but not 100% sure about it.

WP7 phones aren't officially sold in Russia, so I don't think I can get the code..

Go to MS website, look for contact at the bottom, then by phone.
You will get a number, maybe not free but cheap
Call them, try to get somebody as fast as you can (usually I press many times '*') and ask for the number of the activation service, which should be a local or free call..

I had read all the methods and in fact this is the easiest (or at leas it was for me).
I live in Spain so i called the Spanish Microsoft Support: tel 91 754 70 10
I think the hardest step is getting the phone number, really hard to get in contact with them!!
Once you call you get a machine answer, follow the steps until you get through to an operator, he/she will ask you how can they assist you, just say that you want to use your XBOX live ID hotmail account on your WP7 phone and they will even say to you, oh you must need the 5 line activation code. I said i suppose its that, so then she asked me for my full name, phone number and an email address.
Once given, that was it, she put me on hold for a moment and then gave me the code.
As simple as that, hope it works for you as well!
My only concern now is that if i flash mi phone again, will the activation code stil work for me??

acivation fixed finally
all what you want to do is to call the customer service in usa by skype, it is free like police so you don't need credits to call them the only hard step is that they will ask you about your phone so give them any number in usa and any email and they will give you the activation code, you can find their number by searching for it in google.. it works i live in Egypt and i gut my activation code all will take about 15 minutes
