I bought a $21 dictionary from Hallmark, for my BlackBerry. When I upgraded, the dictionary stopped working on my Blackberry. It was somehow deactivated. They won't transfer the purchase to Android. In the end, I ended up with nothing. I feel cheated. This is theft because I lost the dictionary I bought. They are giving me silly excuses. My phone number is the same, my email address is the same, the credit card number is the same. The won't do it.
Sometimes I understand why some software companies are
attacked by software pirates.
So when you buy software, it's like you are really renting it for the time you keep the same device.
That's why iPhone, the Apple store, and iTunes work great, and beat the customer service of any other company. this would have never happened with their online app store.

Hello,
Since this purchase was made through the Blackberry App World we would not be able to exchange the purchase out for your Android device. The reason for this is that App World orders do not register on through Handmark. We do not have access to refund or credit these purchases as they are not register through us. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any further questions please let us know.
Thanks,
Customer (Rob M.) 07/03/2010 02:41 PM
Hello,
I bought this software 4 months ago, but since then I upgraded my BlackBerry to an Android. I still have the same cell phone number, and the company (Sprint) is the same. When customers upgrade, do we lose our previous software?, or is it possible to credit the previous software purchase towards the purchase of the equivalent dictionary for the Android?
Thank you very much,

You changed platforms. What did you expect? You should have factored this into your purchasing decision. As someone already said, if you go from Mac to Windows, you think BestBuy is going to give you free copies of everything you already own?
No. No. No.
The previously bought software should still be working on my Blackberry.
When you buy an additional computer, you end up with TWO computers. And you can always use the old software on your old computer.
I cannot use my old software on my Blackberry because the old software was disabled.
If they won't transfer to another platform, at least they should not disable the application I paid for from the old device and leave me with nothing.
Disabling the software you previously bought from your old device is not normal. I have friends with old iPhones, and most of the applications they bought still work even after the cell was disconnected. (they needed to jailbreak it at a retailer. Here in NY usually Indian or Chinese retailers will do it for you.)
They use it as an iPod touch.
I cannot use my Blackberry as an "BB iPod touch."
Sadly this happens in this forum every day. People that come from Blackberry or Windows Mobile feel like they need to have their apps back. But I had an iPhone and spent more than 130 bucks on apps. And you don't see me complaining. Its obvious that you wont get your money back or your app.

I don't know how's the customer service in Puerto Rico, but here, customer service usually would keep the client happy.
If you have apps in your iPhone, you can still use them. In my case, the application was deactivated from my Blackberry. So more than a purchase, I feel like I just borrowed it from them for two months.
If your apps in your iPhone stopped working, you need to jailbreak it, or take it to a small cell retailer, they will free the software for you, so you can use it as an iPod touch.
From google market, you own the app. It moves with your login, to what ever android phone you're on. Just log into market and there they are. The free apps on the other hand you need to track their names, to reload. But hey, "not going to look a gift horse in the mouth", or they are much appreciated.

oh yeah? try and buy an app in the android market and then get it for free in the app store. its not going to happen, just like kwajr said. when you buy software you buy it for the platform youre on, not for the license fee across platforms. ive purchased at bat twice this year for this exact reason

I've changed platforms before and a "nice email" explaining the situation could have made things simple for you. Its like some of the members here said in other words you purchased an app for xbox live and then you wanted to use your game on playstation network.
W ihat did when I was in that situation the first thing I though about was barganing. So I emailed the company saying that i purchased a program/app/software and I switched devices running a different OS. I explained nicely (politely) that I purchased that serial/key/registration/or license and if it can't be transferred to the new device (ussually keys/licenses can be tranfered trough platforms because you own that key/license) if it can't be transfered I sugested if the company can offered a key/license or register it on my new device at a fraction of the cost........my 30 dollar app cost only 5 dollars on the new device after I emailed them with the problem.
In conclusion you should understand that you own that app but its for a different OS, but you could have offered them to allow u to buy the app at a discount for the new platform
I have 5 applications I paid for on my old Blackberry. The thing is, I just checked them, and apart from the Hallmark application, they still work. It's a dictionary, and the database is on the SD card.
I have 2 other dictionaries, and they still work.
I don't think it's right of Hallmark to put a padlock on their application once the phone is disconnected, if the rest of the vendors didn't do it.
When you buy a new computer, you can still use the software on your old computer.
I see then its a missunderstanding between you and the company. An email saying that your version is not working properly can fix it. I don't think that app requires you to be on a 2year contract or u will be charged a $200 cancelation fee
What do you think is the strategy behind selling the Tab with no voice capability? Make us buy two devices instead of one? I don't think that would work, the first carrier that decides to sell it with voice will get the whole market.
Is there some other reason I'm not seeing? Come to think of it, why am I buyng this thing from the phone company if it's not even a phone!?
I'm with Bell and the TV add clearly says "complete communications solution" and shows a guy in a phone call... but only when you get to to store do they tell you you can't actually make a phone call!
No hothead answers please and yes, I know you can flash the thing and make calls anyway...

Exactly.
A few of us has commented on this in other threads... and I come down on the thought that all of the carriers are now rolling out these data-only (or Mobile Broadband, webConnect, DataConnect, etc) monthly plans where the obvious intent is to lock customers into multiple contracts -- one for their phone and another for their tablet device -- i.e., it is a play for additional revenue.
I can't imagine how there wasn't collusion involved here by the US carriers... unless it was Samsung's strategy, but that seems rather ham-fisted, even for Samsung.
Forcing you buying the device with additional data plan to the one you have now for your smartphone, that's whats behind date.
Wont I just cancel the data plan on my current phone when I get the Tab?
I'll be giving them less money not more... Why would anyone get two data plans?
Well, had just been to the TMobile store today to sort some other things out.
Had a chat with the sales girl who at first said it was impossible to get phone calls, they were different to the Euro models. When I took out my Tab and made a phone call, she was suprised but I pointed out that it was crazy I could get voice on Tmobile, but not 3G, but AT&T could be hacked to enable both. I asked 'why would I want to keep 3 accounts (my phone, my tab, and GF's phone) on TMobile, when I can more them to AT&T and get the device working the way I wanted to.
She couldn't really come up with a reason but didn't try to BS me. Eventually she realised that it was mad buying a phone capable device that had the phone part removed, but understood why I'd be bringing it back in < 30 days to get a refund and go to AT&T.
Then, after all that, she admitted that I wasn't the first person in complaining about it.
Sheesh.
But yeah, at this time, it's Prisoner's Dilemma. If NO-ONE offers voice, they'll get away with it. As soon as one carrier in the US offers it, the rest will have to offer it.

Interesting I plan on doing the same but did she say anything about returning it with the modified firmware allowed?? But yeah I'm seriously trying to debate if I really like having my second phone as a access point just to access Internet with the tab , and going to AT&T now with no unlimited Internet would be a crappy option stupid AT&T

Well, the joke's on them because I've cancelled my smartphone line & using the hacked Skype app to handle all of my Google Voice calls over their 3G network for a cool $25 a month. Can't imagine Im alone.

My buddy who is a manager for AT&T said there were 2 reasons to cripple the tab... #1 - why have customers have a total solution when they can pay for 2. #2 - can't have it take any fame from the iPad. Come on, why would AT&T make a stupid move and take out mms on their tab?! As small as it is but still, didn't they learn their lesson with mms on the iPhone?? He said this was covered in training. Im sure other US carriers have the same think in mind... Minus tmobile for reason #2... I am rather surprised in tmobile as they have been Rollin out devices like nobodys business and meeting the community demand.

I just signed for Axvoice unlimited international for just under $17/mo. and will be porting my cellular number to it. Now I can choose Simple Mobile or At&t for $60/mo for data only on the respective Tab and have simultaneous data and voip. I've been wanting to do this for a long time but now the plans and options make it possible .

Agreed. I'm sure a ton of folks will simply move to a data-only voip solution... but then you have folks like me who can't deal w/ any voip lag and require a traditional voice solution (but then I'm just going to use an ATT reseller as I refuse to contract w/ ATT directly!).

Yeah, I imagine it may not be a robust enough solution for a lot of folks, esp business types who need to talk on the phone a lot & need everything to be solid.
Fortunately for me, Im just a stay at home dad & dont talk on the phone that much. My wife & I mostly email/IM when she's at work, even when I had a smartphone. And the Skype/Google Voice combo works well enough when Im on the road to make/receive decent calls from random friends/family if I need that.
So for someone like me who uses much more data than voice, its pretty awesome that the US carriers actually didn't try to turn the Tab into a phone & charge extra for a voice plan.
Its possible to use the voip for the sprint g tab?

When I purchased my AT&T galaxy tab, I was told that it would come with a $50 media hub credit from Samsung. After playing with my galaxy tab for a few days, I decided to take advantage of this credit and registered my tab on the samsung website as instructed by the film on the front of the tab. After registering it, I received a confirmation email from Samsung saying that the device had been registered, but no code regarding the media hub was attached.
I proceeded to call the AT&T store where I purchased the tab, but was directed to Samsung. Samsung then told me this was an AT&T problem and I was transfered from representative to representative numerous times. After a while I was transfered to Samsung's level 3 customer service and was told that I would be texted the code. I told him that I didn't have a phone number associated with my tab and he said that I was unable to received the credit at this time.
The next day I got a number for my tab and called Samsung again and asked for level 3 customer service. The representative told me to send an email to this address: [email protected], give them the information associated with my registered tab (including the phone number), and ask for the "gift code". The next morning I received a response to my email, however it said that the promotion is only available to Sprint customers. I talked to an AT&T employee and they said that this also applies to AT&T customers.
Is anyone else having problems receiving this code as I am? If so, I would be grateful for their assistance if they have managed to received the media hub code.
Thanks.
Do you have proof of this promo if so threaten to complain to the us equivelent of trading standards to ATT and samsung

According to the website, the above response is correct regarding not being eligible.
Read the terms and conditions:

If you didn't get a data plan, they don't have to give you the credit. How would they know is unclear. They emailed me the code after registering. I didn't get a contract in-store either. I did sign up for the data connect pass before I registered the Tab with Samsung.

Thanks for the reply. I have a data plan and a phone number associated with my tab now. What would you suggest that I do? I don't think I can re-register my device and Samsung customer service is awful.
Can't necessarly blame Samsung although AT&T or Samsung should've clarified the terms and conditions when you called them. On the other hand, its always on you to check out what is required before you jump. Since you did things out of sequence, the next step would be to contact Samsung. Actually, you may not have to do anything but wait. Give it 48 hours to see if there is some automated cross-check between the two that sends out the emails. If you don't get the email by then, call Samsung since they manage the promotion. Be patient with them and explain.

YES. 1,678 signatures! I have to admit even I am impressed that this thing KEEPS getting new signatures daily. I want to thank some of the Devs who provided links on the OP page for ROMs they developed, and if we continue to spread the word, I see no reason that 5,000 signatures could be reached. If AT&T chooses to ignore that many people, it will be a good indicator of how foolish they have truly become. Keep 'em coming! I am seeing many new signatures every day. Posting links to it is one thing I know that works: Go to any Facebook Page (I have only hit AT&T and Samsung, post a few words and this link:
Please support this campaign/sign this petition: http://chn.ge/192KeHy <- Paste this on any Facebook Page or when you leave comments in Blogs or tech sites. On Faceboot it creates a nice link with a graphic.
For all the negative types that pop in here just to say "stop dreaming, it won't make the slightest difference" - I agree that this is just a "blip" on the radar of AT&T Execs such as Ralph de la Vega's radar, but it's one noisy, annoying, won't go away blip, and it keeps upsetting his "vison". -isn't that just special
Pasting the link I provide below into threads on this subject seems to be very effective in creating a buzz.
This is simply to let AT&T know that they have alienated the folks who people go for tech advice when they BUY a new phone or UPGRADE an existing device. . Guess what we are going to tell them about AT&T's Note 3?
This is ALSO a way to get word out that it is locked. The average consumer has no idea, doesn't even know what locked bootloader will do or not do.
Copy and paste the links below anywhere on the web. See a site saying how wonderful the Note 3 is? Paste the link. Hit em wherever you express yourself. I want AT&T to know they have crossed the line with this move. Will they change policy? Probably not, they are not Asus or HTC, but I still believe that the alternative; to just accept this is to give AT&T permission to find MORE to take away from us is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!. It was a petition (an the work of New York Senator Al Damato that got people the right to port phone #'s to a new carrier. Before that you were often locked to a carrier by your number. Also petitioning ASUS 2 years ago got us an unlocker (and warranty "voider") for the Transformer Prime.
The petition is not a static document. Every new signature sends an email to each of the following AT&T Executives:

Help blitz on AT&T's Social Media Pages on FaceBook

We REALLY need to make our voice heard at Samsung, who, as a partner to AT&T, may have additional influence when they know that THEIR business will be affected as well.
https://www.facebook.com/SamsungMobile
Go to these sites, and blitz the wall with this line: AT&T: Unlock OUR Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Bootloader! or Samsung: Please ask AT&T to Unlock OUR Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Bootloader!
Some of us are, unfortunately not financially equipped to run out and get a T-Mobile N3.
I can guarantee you if we just grumble and sulk about it, or even go elsewhere with our business without making sure that AT&T knows WHY we did it, not only will nothing change, but the same a$$es that made this policy will be planning new ways to screw with us. Feel like its a waste of time? Is less than 2 minutes to sign a petition too much trouble? Great. You can just accept whatever they want to take away next.NOT signing is comparable to standing there while a mugger robs and beats someone who is helpless to defend themselves and not even yelling "Hey, leave that person alone" to the creep doing the crime.
I second that motion! Im really not happy that at&t is choosing to lock down their phones, its my damn phone. I pay a monthly service fee for the spotty coverage and another $200 + for the phone, I should be able to do whatever I damn well please with it. I really want to get the note 3 but the locked bootloader is a deal breaker for me.
I say unlock the bootloader or your going to have a lot of pissed off people looking to buy elsewhere or jump ship. I know at least one person who has already gone to t mobile!

I've already seen this dozens of times. You already bought the phone, they know you will forget by the next phone. Look trough the Atrix, DX ect ect. No amount of petitions will change there mind.
You've got mine. This is why I'm not getting a note 3 yet.
I'll sign twice, you don't need an ID to vote in most states, I'm sure I can make up a few names! lol But really, I've been blasting AT&T's twitter wanting an answer as to why. Even referencing the droves of consumers running to purchase a TMob version and sim unlocking! I don't think they care, but it makes me feel better to complain!
I'm in for this

As much as I want to bootloader unlocked I have to agree 1000% with this.

Im in..... If AT&T does not want to unlock the bootloader then they should offer a dev edition of the Note 3! It would have been even better to offer it on launch day! Anyway you have my signature!

I'm seriously thinking of switching service over this one issue. I've been with AT&T for years. They need to listen to their customers or lose business.
Yes...I'll sign it. :highfive:
I have subscribed to this topic. You have my vote.

You have my support, we should be able to do what we want to with OUR phones.

Sure, I agree too... But that's not going to stop me from TRYING or voicing my opinion.
I'm in! Get the petition up, i have at least 5 people that are ready and willing to sign!
I'm definitely in. Yea its been done before and no it probably won't work. But hell, I'm all about taking a stand. I've got the GN3 and Ive already listed the phone to sell it. I've already decided to take the money and buy the T-Mobile version. This locked bootloader has burnt my ass since I bought the S4. Its ridiculous that a mammoth of a company like AT&T has that kind of power in the first place. If everyone took a stand from day one and told these companies what we'd stand for and what we wouldn't, then this wouldn't be happening now. Thing is they know people will still purchase phones and sign contracts for their service no matter what they do to their customers. Its locked bootloaders and region sim locks now, wonder what they'll dream up next. Problem is, people will sit and ***** about how companies do them but nobody ever does anything about it. If we all came together and told them to jam the phones and service in their asses they'd have to change policy or go bankrupt. But it'll never happen because people won't come together and do it. A handful of people up against a giant like AT&T will ALWAYS get swept under the rug. It takes massive numbers to make a change. When that happens...we'll get results.
I wish you luck. Unfortunately, AT&T said they don't support unlocked bootloaders according to this:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...tloaders-so-stop-asking-us-about-every-phone/
Maybe they'll have a change of heart with the Note 3. It would be nice at least.

lol good luck... they are not going to do anything about this.. its all about customers aka money.. unless you want to give them money im sure they will if they have enough.. but still when you buy a note 3 full price from att they wont unlock the bootloader...
im getting the t-mobile note 3 and my contract from att ends next year and ill be switching back to t-mo after like 8 years with att..
im sure it will get hacked sooner or later but when a bootloader is locked you play this cat and mouse game.. just like when i use to jailbreak..
really att needs to loosen up.. hope you guys get what you asked for but for now enjoy your note 3 and wait..........

Hi everyone. I'm an American living in Sweden. I have a unlocked galaxy note 3 that I am going to send my TECHNOPHOBIA suffering mother so she van video chat and see my newborn son for the first time live instead of in snail mailed pictures. She has agreed to try her best to learn because after 4 years of us not seeing each other she is willing to the anything
so here is the advice I need.
Best way to *safety proof* (don't want to call my mom a idiot) the phone.
A way for me to remotely restore the phone to MY settings when she accidentally messes something up and calls me freaking out.
Advice on a service plan. I have good credit in the usa and a social security number. she lives in 70647 Iowa, Louisiana. w
We would like to be able to video chat on skype on demand. But she will not be streaming video or downloading anything but content from dropbox. I would love if there was the option for her to be able to send an sms/mms to my mobile in sweden.
I would like yo put the phone in some *easy* setup. similar to the one included in 4.4.2 BUT my mother will only be using the phone for a few things. Skype facebook and dropbox. Also receiving sms/mms from me only. I would like her to have the ability to call our foreign cellphone numbers though in case of an emergency.
The phone is already rooted and updated to samsung version of 4.4.2. I would happily use another ROM if someone can recommend one that would best suit my needs.
I have a windows desktop running win 7 and an extra note 3 that I will be keeping here to use as well.
Help a lady out please! I desperately want to see my momma.

I saw different people using Android phones and have to say that especially Samsung phones are extremely difficult to use in terms of responsiveness and features. I haven't seen any rom which is "easier" to use than the build in easy mode. We gave our grandparents and parents an iPhone and ipad since they are easier to use. Coming from an Android fanatic.

I'm pretty much stuck with the galaxy note 3 for her a phone. I am trying out Big Launcher right now. I LOVE the 'Easy Touch Wizzard' except that I wish you could edit the main screen's applications. And Big Launcher is nice but I wish you could have slightly smaller icons so I could fit everything in one screen. *sighs* I need to learn to program.
Can anyone recommend any data programs that are great for mostly video calling on skype (or hangouts/chat on since they are both note 3 phones)? Would love if they had some intentional sms options as well.

US data programs? I used to have cricket in CA which is kinda less expansive. If your mom has a cellular plan I would ask if there is any combination possible. Are u looking for a cheap or very good data plan?
And sorry I completely forgot to mention launchers; )

I'm looking for VERY good. And It needs to be on AT&T or T-mobile to get the best coverage, as well at LTE (verified with IMEI, and LTE bands).
I am willing to sign a contract OR to get prepaid, as long as I can pay it online with a VISA, or Mastercard. My mom's current phone is one of those elderly social security phones. Basically only for receiving calls, OR emergencies. So there is no option for data.

For Skype calls u need a lot of gb. 8 gb on t-mobile go down pretty fast when u are video calling. If at&t or t-Mobile and the price doesn't matter go for at&t with 20 gb.
Doesn't your mom have wireless router? Would be a lot more convenient than a data plan on the cell phone.
Nope no access to Internet what so ever lol. She wouldn't know how to use one even if I could get one to her.
