Possible Solution for Root on DL09 - Fascinate General

I must give credit to the original post, but I thought it would do more good if it was brought to its own thread.

I was able to edit the START_ROOT.bat file in Dirrk's EZ Root v0.2 so the it would pause for 120 seconds instead of 60 seconds after the first phone reboot. Then, after the reboot, unplug the USB from the phone and reconnect it. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, but it worked for me.

This DOES work. The phone just needs more time to boot up than what this method is originally giving it. Mine would actually go into media sync mode for a little bit, which is what I am suspecting threw the root process off. If you don't wait longer, the root process ends up reporting that there is "no device connected."
I actually changed the time to 180 seconds just to give it plenty of time.

This is absolutely the solution. I had been trying all day to root my phone after updating to DL09. Thank you so much!

Umm... maybe I'm confused but why haven't you just done Adrynalyn's new method? I ran through it, and my phone rooted just fine. Odin on that new CWM and you're all set. Why are you trying this esoteric stuff? Am I missing something?
(And yes, I did the official DL09 before rooting...)

Adrynalyn's method couldn't be any easier to root a phone.
I've fubared my phone at least 3 times this weekend and was able to get it back up in no time. Be even gives simple instructions.

Give me a link and I would be happy to try his method if I lose my root again.

restore from ROM manager bricked my phone

I did a search and couldn't find much help.
I recently dropped my phone and the screen got a slight crack, so the insurance company sent me a new one.
I figured I'd use ROM manager to backup my old phone, and restore it on my new phone.
New phone restores, reboots, and gets stuck at the black Vibrant screen.
I can get back into recovery mode fine, but nothing seems to work.
I let it sit at the Vibrant screen for about an hour before I try again.
Its attempt 3 when I decided to come on this site for some help.
Specs:
Stock
Rooted
Launcher pro
Nothing too much to be confusing and brick, so wtf?
Oh and I understand I could use odin to reflash my phone, please please please don't suggest odin, because I don't own a PC, I own a mac. Please don't tell me to go out and buy a PC or to download a program that costs $50 to use PC programs on a mac. I could have told myself that kind of information.
HELP, my brand new phone is destroyed wahhhh
From the sound of it you still have your old phone. If so, rather than restore using nandroid, try downloading a copy of titanium backup to backup/restore your apps. I have found that sms restore does a good job restoring texts. For me those two apps get the job done restoring my info. Also, if you haven't, sync your contacts to google and they will auto sync upon load. Of course this all assumes you still have your old phone in working order. ..
Also, there are stock roms flashable via clockwork that basically do the same as odin. Check the ' bible' sticky for links.
Hope this helps

The only way I can think of that a nandroid restore would soft brick you, is because you have restored a version of android with a different kernel.
If the original phone had the original firmware (JFD), and the replacement had the most recent (JI6), this is what would be expected to happen.
Since you seem unable and unwilling to use Odin, your going to have to tell us more details (i.e. which versions of the firmware as related above were actually in play) before we can begin to help. If you don't know, well....
You can also simply take it back to a local T-Mobile store and do another swap, or you can find a friend with a Windows PC and Odin (or Samsung's Mini KIES with JI6). These are your only real options...
both phones had JI6
Thank you for the quick responses.
I'm not unwilling to use odin, but unless anyone knows of a free software to use PC programs on a mac, I'm SOL.
so, you got the new phone, rooted, got rom manager and then got clockwork recovery right?
You did a nandroid backup right (on the new phone), before flashing anything right?
Why not just download Fusion and flash that to get the phone up and running?

Well hmm....so much for guessing on my part. Crossing different build kernels is one sure fire way to brick...
Well, there is a solution for Mac and Linux for reloading firmware on a Samsung phone from Download Mode, an open project called Heimdall. It does everything Odin does, but without a GUI, so it depends on how comfortable you are with commandline/shell.
I'll pass you the relevant links so you can see for yourself what's going on.

True that...Why didn't I think of that obvious ploy. If he can get into Recovery, and bounce over to clockwork...Well now's a good a time as any to try Bionix or Bionix Fusion...or a few other of the CW Recovery installable builds...Definitely easier than Heimdall or working out Odin on a mac....and definitely preferable to staring at a Vibrant logo...

^ are you? You didn't answer my questions.
I'm gonna guess and say you also dl'd the oclf from the market to root too... so now you can't get back into CwR... right?
If you can get adb to recognize your phone then your not SOL. Im not sure what the exact command lines would be but you could delete the update.zip and replace it with another ROM. GL
I just tried using Odin on my roommates PC. An error happened and now the phone is showing a picture of a phone, a couple dots, an exclamation mark, a couple dots, and a computer.
Nothing I can do is taking it out of this screen. Unplugged from computer, took out battery, took out sd card, put it back in... nothing
Am I bricked for good now?
This is a terrible day.
edit: i managed to be able to get the phone into download mode.
No you are not completely bricked! Honestly that is almost impossible on this phone. The only way you'll lose this phone is if YOU give up.
Just keep trying and take a few deep breathes. Take a break actually. Just redo the process from step one.
Edit: you're half way there. Just flash Eugene's froyo that doesn't brixk, reboot, flash JFD or JI6, reboot... then you'll be right back to out of the box status.

I'm Screwed!

I have to return my Vibrant to T-Mo and need to unroot. But I don't think I'm really rooted in the first place. I downloaded the RyanZas lagfix app. I clicked on root phone. I went into recovery and reinstalled packages. My phone says it's rooted, but there is no update.zip file anywhere. I can't even find a "download" file in Astro. I have the Superuser icon in my apps, but can't delete that either. I just want to get this phone to where I can send it back to T-Mo without voiding my warranty. Also in the lagfix app, it says I am rooted. I don't even have the option to root, only to unroot. When I try that, it just reboots my phone, but never "unroots".
Another thing...when I look at my free space, I have 1754 mb out of 1917 mb available. If I was rooted, would I have less space available?
I'm sure it's VERY obvious that I'm a newbie to all this, so if you have any ideas for me, please talk to me like I'm a 1st grader ;-)
Well if you unroot.. the superuser icon will disappear

Well, like I said, I'm totally new to this and that thread is like trying to read Chinese for me. It doesn't bother me to be rooted. I just need to unroot because I have to send it in to T-Mo for my warranty replacement.
I never flashed any ROMs. I only rooted and applied the lag fix. But now the update.zip file is gone and my phone still says it's rooted.
When I go into the terminal on the phone and try to remove Superuser.apk it tells me it can't because it's a read-only file.
Again, I don't mind that these things are there, I just don't want to have to pay for my phone...again.

Times never wasted when your getting waisted
seriously, using odin is really very simple, i used odin 1.7 ( no it dont have a virus before anyone says it) only a couple of nights ago after flashing one of eugenes kernels, long story short i was stuck at the boot animation, hadnt backed up like a noob and was stuck, i followed that thread and the hardest part for me was download mode on the phone and thats really simple, seriously if you need it back to total stock have a go at odin
I'd love to have a go at odin, except seriously, when I say I have no idea what I'm doing...I REALLY mean it! Someone has given me all the steps to use odin, but quite frankly, I still don't know where to start. Do I download part on my computer, then move it onto the phone? Where do I put it on the phone? How do I get in download mode? See...NO CLUE. I really shouldn't have ever rooted for the mere fact that I have no idea what I'm doing, lol.
I think I may just go back to factory reset (again) and roll the dice hoping they don't charge me.

One click root apps do not work on official DL09

I just noticed that there seems to be some worried about rooting if you ran the verizon DL09 odin package. Don't worry. d2 root method for fascinate found on XDA works just fine. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=779238
Have not found a one click root that works yet though. If you find one, post it!
**UPDATE**!!!
Looks like there are some that are hit or miss... may have to run them a few times and wait upwards of 5-10 minutes for some.
if you don't want to wait use perm d2 method. happy rooting!
I actually used the one click root method that is found on android central after i upgraded to DL09. Worked for me. It was strange because i had to do it 3 times until it finally ran.
To get it to run it needed over 5 mins (which the once click says if it takes more than 5 mins try again) I had run it then lost track of what i was doing because i was at work. Then next thing i know it completed itself. So i can confirm it does work.

Looks like patience is the key here people... if you are familiar with adb, you could probably root it faster. i ran z4 and let it run quite a few times myself before i said screw it (i actually got a FC or 2 as well) and just ran the perm d2 method.
thanks for the heads up!
Possible reason why
I'm gonna look for the page I got my 1 click method from, but it worked for me on the first time. I rooted immediately after flashing the odin file. Then I screwed something up before I pout clockwork on so I reflashed since I lost everything (not really, thanks to Titanium Backup). Then I immediately flashed the clockwork after and then the 1 click failed twice. Reflashed the official dl09 then 1 click and, boom, rooted on the first try.
After doing a little searching, apparently the clockwork.tar flashes a DI01 kernal. So if people are flashing clockwork before rooting, this could be the culprit. I use this method found here
http://m.forum.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=33899
Hope this helps some people out.
one click root worked for me
The one click root method from android forums worked for me (said it completed) but none of my root access apps are getting root access.
I rooted through the manual adb method.
I'm having trouble booting into clockwork though.
After grabbing clockwork recovery from ROM manger, it goes to stock recovery where it errors with "signature verification"
do I have to push the original clockwork.tar through odin?
edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470 <<< fixed the issue. push through odin
I used the adb method from android central and I had to wait 5-10 minutes to be kicked back out to the windows command prompt after running rage.bin.
It's not just 1 click methods that sometimes take a long time to complete.
i used the 1 click method from dirkk. i had problems with my phone reading as a media driver(trying to sync to my pc) so that was causing the 1 click method to fail at first. once i disabled the media sync it was sucessful first try.

need help rooting vibrant KA6 2.2 FROYO

Hi, I have tried z4root and SuperOneClick. But both dont seem to work, they freeze like mid-way. Z4ROOT gets stuck with the loading sign continuing to spin, but I have seen videos when it takes like 30 seconds. SuperOneClick gets stuck on Waiting for Device.... AND YES, I have tried these methods with USB Debugging checked.
I have, however, NOT tried the traditional update.zip/reinstall packages method. Because I cannot find a thread that confirms that works for froyo 2.2 (KA6).
I have read this thread:

i know the feeling, i was having issues with SuperOneClick, worked for 3 hours on this. http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsung-Vibrant/How-Do-i-Root-my-2-2-Vibrant/td-p/709625 helped me out a bunch.
the traditional update.zip doesnt work until you get a new recovery mode installed.
i'll run thru his steps with my comments.
1. also make sure you are up to date on .NET
2. i ran this with both exploits, both times busybox didnt install (not enough space on system)
3.for step 6 it may be easier to unzip the 3e_recovery zip
4. i was a little confused as to where to put things, so i removed my micro SD card, and then put it on the "root" of the vibrant after mounting it.
5.and install it, i used it to figure out if i had "enough" root.
6. i installed a bunch of file browers trying to access system/bin, in the end my request for superuser wasn't popping up until i installed "superuser" from the market, then i used root explorer to do the rest.
7. i got lost trying to find this folder, its /res and /efs
8. more or less ignore what superoneclick says after you click the button, until it finishes.
9.install.bat is the one
10.i didnt do this
11. i had the install.bat send me into recovery mode and i reinstalled the packages
12. with any luck you should be there.
other notes: i installed busybox from the market, and used it to check to see if i had enough root. make sure busybox installs correctly before step 8.
also i ignored the instructions about turning on and off usb debugging, on my vibrant i could only turn it on and off if usb wasn't plugged in.
hopefully this helps!

[How to] ¤¤»Update to 1.8.3 and ROOT«¤¤ (Working for Some)

I don't know why people are having soooo much trouble with this so im just going to post this..
this is what I did to get the 1.8.3 update.
1) Go download the Motorola Software Updater from here.
2) Download the updater and then install it. Make sure that you have your Motorola Driver updated.
3) Run the updater, plug in your phone (Debugging has to be on). Wait till the updater recognizes your Atrix.
4) The updater will scan your device and see what firmware you have installed. Once it identifies that you have your Atrix connected and you are updated to 1.5.7 it will start to scan for updates (This can take a while, so let it do its thing).
5) Once it finds an update, it will wait till you click next.
6) After that it will download and install the update to your phone, once it is completed your phone will reboot. (Again, the updating/installing can take a while)
THATS IT!
Rooting time w/ GingerBreak.

To my understanding it took alot of peoples phones a while. From what i heard you can Flash 1.5.7 then flash 1.8.3 on top of that and root and enable side loading before the phone tools would start the update

There should be a %. But it doesn't say how long and I didn't keep track. I just started it and left. Came back and it said it found an update then i just installed it.
Proof. Just want to show you that I actually have it working.
-Sideload (the only way I could get Screen Grabber on my phone)
-Rooted (required for Screen Grabber to work)
-1.8.3 (shown in picture)
I Flash a 1.8.3 SBF file.
But can't display a MP4 file which can play on Ver 1.5.7.
Can you play it with Gallery (with 1.8.3 default video player.)??
People have told you several times now that this method no longer works, I tried it exactly as you said several times over the past few days and just for good measure I tried again right before I posted this.
I understand that it worked for you a couple days ago but things changed and I assure you it does NOT work anymore.
Looks like the OTA availability is widening. I've been manually checking for updates daily for the last week or so. This morning it found the update and installed without issue. Northern VA area.
i just used the 1.8.3 sbf with RSD lite 5.31
No update on moto for me and no OTA
finally got it working, thanks!
I got the update notice as soon as I registered the product (which I hadn't done until today after owning since April 20th). Make sure that you've registered your phone on motorola.com
I just got the update right now over WIFI > System Update. Looks like its downloading now!!!
dont forget to backup your internal sd card since gingerbreak will format it.
Mine just popped

Ya, that was my experience too. I did everything to the letter, and no update. What I think happened is moto/att is pushing out the update in batches, and you (chubby) happened to be one of the lucky first in the roll out, and that's why it worked for you.
I could be wrong, but that would definitely explain why everyone but you was having so much trubbs.
BTW, I just checked again a few minutes ago and it finally found the update.
