activation - EVO Shift 4G General

I've had a hell of a time trying to get this damn phone activated. It shows it's charged, but all it says during hands-free activation is "contacting network", and never finishes. Tried updating the profile, but naturally, that takes data to work, so that certainly wasn't successful. Talked to tech support, and they had me try resetting the phone, didn't help. I've left it plugged in for 2 more hours, still didn't activate. I do not want to call tech support again, they talk to me like I'm an idiot and it annoys the crap out of me.

it's employee care, so I don't know if there is a chat. Not to mention it's probably blocked at work. Odd things are blocked here. Like androidforums.com is blocked, but XDA isn't (which I'm grateful for)

I had the same problem when I was at radioshack. They bad to call tech and get a dialing code to reset some settings. Just call and say you got disconnected from tech and you want to go back. If you don't say that they will try to fix it themselves.

I called them back and got in touch with a guy that actually seemed like he knew what he was doing. Had me go into a menu using ##986# I think, and had me change the two numbers in there. That fixed it. Now I get to play!

hey at least you didnt end up like me, my 1st shift arrived with a DOA radio lol

I've noticed that if I am patient and pleasant with the people on the phone, usually they are reasonable when we have a conversation. Not getting mad or yelling or name calling isn't good. I try to keep the conversation kinda professional and relaxed and most of the time they are the same way back to me. Maybe some reps can confirm this? I've heard many say that if you are cool with them, they might go the extra mile with you. If you are a **** or ***** on the phone, they won't want to help you even though it is their job. Understand what it is like to be in their position and treat/speak with them like you want to be treated. Common sense stuff.
They deal with difficult and rude customers all day. They probably like it a lot when someone is civil with them. Duh!

I can confirm being a former call center rep myself for another company (still with them hence the lack of naming, just moved up the ladder), we are a lot more inclined to go the extra mile and ensure everything you need to taken care of if you give us the same respect we try our best to give you

Oh I was very nice and polite, but if I had to go through a third tech support person, then I was going to get a bit angry with them. Luckily, the second guy knew what he was doing and my Shift is great. Battery's dead, mostly because I was downloading updates in an area with no service (I hope that's the reason anyway, always was with my Hero)

Another thought is that even though it's very annoying when dealing with people that seem clueless, they can't help it if someone poorly trained them or told them to troubleshoot by reading a script in a book they might have in front of them. I bet many are just like many other people out there. They need a job and it's not their fault if their employer did a ****ty job training them. I've had quite a few jobs where IF the employer DID train, it would be the absolute minimum and then they throw you to the wolves. Sink or swim. You figure it out along the way, if you can. The idiots expect maximum results with minimum efforts. And again, I digress.

Activating mine was a major pain. I spoke with 3 reps and 1 supervisor before someone thought to ask me if I had turned off my old phone first. Turns out that was the problem.

Pass the word to sprint that we are unhappy!

I made a nice call to *2 this evening, talked to a nice rep and kindly asked them to pass the word along to whoever they can that we are very unhappy with the FPS cap and quality of the evo. I wasn't complaining to them, just asked them to push it up the channels so maybe sprint will put some pressure on HTC to make things right.
If we all do the same, maybe sprint will get the message.
LOL, you spoke to a front line rep? Good luck with that.

am pretty happy with my evo but the cap sucks tho lol

I actually bought it from Wirefly. I just had to get an RA number within 14 days of activating it then I had to ship it back with all the original packaging.
Then I spoke with Sprint chat to put a note on my account to revert me back to my old plan and old contract.
What cap are you guys referring to, and what's so wrong with the EVO? I'm loving mine!
I might call if I was unhappy with the EVO... as it stands though, I love this phone, so no reason to complain here.

There should be an effective way to communicate with HTC on its issues. Even their forums don't seem all that effective, I'd like to see some official response from HTC as well:
Popular discussions & Product Support:
http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/94.aspx?tab=support&Sort=Active&PageIndex=1
http://www.htc.com/us/products/evo-sprint?view=1-1&sort=0

I played with an EVO for another couple hours the other day but don't feel compelled to buy one until 2.2 & Wi-Fi fix etc..& if they don't respond to market pressures it will only make the iPhone 4 seem more worth the compromise of Apple's constraints..
Ideas on more effective communication with HTC, what say you..?
they still arent gonna do anything
I'd beg to differ, I was one of many who were suckered in to buying an Instinct. It was probably the most hyped, worst phone ever (iphone killer?). They made a number of updates for several months after release. I'm sure we'll see a few fixes.
What's wrong with the WiFi? I use mine all day, every day.
@op: Who's unhappy?
Every time a new phone comes out there is always a small group exclaiming loudly about how this or that needs to be fixed or it's a dealbreaker. Honestly, if someone had not reported the video cap 99% of users would never have noticed. All electronics have issues and won't be perfect. For those of you expecting everything that you buy to be perfect, I suggest you wake up and smell the coffee. It's not gonna happen. Go ahead a do a Google search. Every major phone release, from iPhones to Droids to WinMos to WebOSes, have all had issues. No amount of belly-aching from anyone is going fix it. It's just the nature of manufacturing.

Thanks for links....I guess my point was that WiFi works. People are complaining, but for most, WiFi works just fine. I use mine all over my house and my router is in my basement. I even get a connection outside my house. My signal bars don't show me a thing but it's still connected and fast. Some may have WiFi issues but they aren't Toyota recall type issues.

A Story Of Revenge:

Background:
I was waiting for the Evo, ever since it was announced. I got it on my lunch break during work (Which turned out to be 2 hours because of the sprint servers). I loved it.
Situation:
I was playing basketball when someone must have taken it out of my bag (I think it was right on top and possibly visible). I realized it probably 15-20 minutes after it was gone. I confronted the group of people and told them that I just wanted my phone back. Didn't care if they stole it, I wouldn't report it, just wanted it back. They all denied it.
I went home, more pissed than I've been in a while. I called sprint and told them my story. They said unless I had insurance (Which I'm getting in the future BTW), I was SOL. I told them to cancel my service, and I'll go back to t-mobile.
A day went by, and I started checking Craigslist to see if anything popped up. Well something did pop up. I called the people, and asked if they had the box and everything. They said they just got the actual phone for a gift. I contemplated arranging a meet up with my friend and them, and have some bats and golf clubs with me, but I decided I didn't wanna get arrested, or sued, or leave myself legally liable in any way. So I went to the police station.
I met this very friendly and nice cop outside and told him my story. He must have liked me, because he took me in, reported my item as stolen, and then I explained about the craigslist ad.
He took a look and agreed it was fishy. I told him if I could just get my hands on the phone and check the serial numbers, I could see if it was my phone or not. So, he grabbed his friend and they both took on the case (A sting operation for a phone!).
Well 12 hours went by and I was sweating because I didn't know when it was going down, or if the guys had sold the phone to someone else. Well my friends all called the phone number listed and asked if it was still available. They said that someone was looking at the phone right now. That was it, if it wasn't the cops, then I'd never get my phone back.
Well sure enough an hour later, I get a call from the cop, and he said they got my phone back. Told me never to go back to that court again. I'll have to testify, but I get my phone back in a few days.
I am probably one of the luckiest Evo Owners ever! Now just gotta get my phone reactivated... Hope there won't be too much of a problem there.
=)
Good story bro.
Show up to court and testify. Don't let the POS get away with it. If he gets away with it, it will teach him that stealing doesn't carry consequences.
I wouldn't post this online. Just sayin.
ok am not a good reader hehe so hmm who sstole your phone? scare the crap out of them for stealing!
Damn, talk about luck. The phone gods are looking down upon you dude. Nice. Testify and teach them to never steal again. Unfortunately once a thief, always a thief as the saying goes. I would take the cops advice and never go back to that BB court again. Congrats though.
nice! good police do exist
In the future you should install WaveSecure It'll let you track your phone and remotely wipe it among other things.

Sad thing is you wont be able to play ball on that court again. =(

Cool that you got the phone back man.
To all those who say "Too bad you can't go back to that court again", why would the OP want to anyway? Obviously the type of crowd there is trouble. I wouldn't go play there again if my stuff was robbed and I never recovered it. I wouldn't be able to play having to check my stuff every two minutes knowing what happened the last time. Just sayin'.
P.S. -This is coming from a guy with a main source of exercise from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.
Awesome, exactly the same happened to me with my hero, december last year. Except it happened during my gym class at school, my father found it on a local auction site, and then left with a friend to confront the guys. The IMEI matched, ofcourse, and i got my phone back. Sad thing is that the douche who stole it, was a guy in my class, and even worse is the fact that he and his companion got of with a warning. Had to see him every single day for half a year.
I bring only the bare minimum when I go to the courts. Keys, ID and a bottle of water. A lack of cash ensures that I don't spend it splurging on impulse food after playing and that I head straight home. Lawl.

I've used both, mobile defense's web interface seems to be slightly nicer, but not much difference, they have almost identical feature sets. The only real difference is that mobile defense SMS for turning on tracking originate from the US. And Wave Secure SMS originates from Asia (can't remember the country) the reason this makes a difference is that wave secure costs you 20 cents every time you use it to do anything. I would stick with mobile defense. If you have wave secure all setup it's probably not worth switching either unless you track your phone or alarm/lock it often.
I am not sure if Android offers a tracking app. I use one on my TP2 and I don't care what they do with the phone because it will provide me with the exact location to share with the cops if necessary.
One SMS with my code and my phone lets me know it's location.

Did you read the thread? The posts right above yours mentions mobile defense which does exactly that.
Awesome that the OP got his phone back
I've use Mobile Defense since the day I got my myTouch with only one problem. They send a text from an e-mail that has mobiledefense in the name! Like, come on, don't be THAT obvious! You should get it from a real number saying like "hey baby" or something. A phone tracking app is invaluable to anyone who owns a phone like this, though.
As for OP, you are bigger man than I. Of course, I have a family riddled with crime (blood and in-laws) so the whole "beat the hell out of you" thing is pretty much drilled in at this point.
Thanks for sharing your story. Glad you got your phone back.
I actually flew to LA just after I got the phone (canceled online pre-order and stood in line so I can have it for the weekend). Went to play basketball with my brothers, and was worried about my phone being stolen, maybe I can blame losing that game on that...
I usually leave my stuff behind the basket pole, no chance of someone getting near my things without me seeing them, and the pole protects it from someone stepping on it.
I had my very first cell phone stollen. I was a senior in highschool and got a pretty decent job and wanted a phone. I got that nokia that everybody had 8 years ago (the one with the flashlight on top). I went to the pool for swim practice and came back and my phone was gone! I called it from my buddy's phone and the DB answered and said, sorry dude! Next time bring a lock! And hung up... I called ATT and reported it. They said because it was a cheap POS phone, there really wan't much they could do, but the guy gave me a discount on the same phone (I think I paid like $40 or something) so it was all good in the end.
I guess some people just need phones more than others! Teach this guy a lesson. Don't back down and maybe he'll think twice before he tries and steals someone else's $500 investment
Glad you were successful!
p.s. The first time I read the story, I thought the "court" the cops told you to stay away from was a "Court of Law" and not a basketball court. I was like, dang, cops don't want you to come back to the court (of law)? That's messed up!

Spoofed phone, and replies...

Been using Google voice (not religiously due to family not the most tech savvy). This morning, I wake up, and I find a total of 8 messages from starting from 10:30 at night, to 07:59 this AM. There are a total of 3 reply backs, all having personal information attached to them).
Researching the number back shows an area code of 734 (Ann Arbor), which is ironically the prefix I chose since I previously worked there at U of M.
The really interesting part is that I have a bit of a "stalker" at work, whose number I've blacklisted courtesy of Verizon wireless, and have not had any issues in say 1.5 months. 2 nights ago while at work she asked about setting up a google voice account after just purchasing a Samsung S, stating "I don't have any clue how to set this up". Was a bit busy at the time (patient going bad, honestly didn't really care", and opened up the app and told her to browse through it to get an idea.
How can I track this number (really think it's her) and verify it. I have a harassment case pending in HR regarding her, and would like to have it as material to provide it it really is her. Second, how the hell can my phone respond back? I have "Unknown sources" checked as I use Ti backup.
Any help more than appreciated. Thanks in advance!
LOL Holy christ no. One of the "you can take the girl from the trailer...." She's done this before to others at work, with the last moving to Canada (I **** you not) with his wife and 2 daughters. Been getting worse, hence my interaction with my manager and HR.
google voice also can use your email to reply back to texts..is your email compromised? Change your passwords..and do a hard reset..if you are using TI..just wipe and reinstall ROM...
It's hard to say what/if she did something...but yeah, thats weird.
edit: I live in Ann Arbor, but I wasn't the one...haha.
pretend how u have this treasure in nigeria, and ask her to "help" you bring it here.
Christ, I never thought of that, and I do have that option checked.
Sigh... I just did a complete backup 8 days ago, only difference is 2 games, and I can re-download those.
Google voice already uninstalled. After that I'm going to get number changed, and see if I can get it "unlisted" by Verizon.
What else, any other suggestions are more than welcome and appreciated!
Added question.

do a reverse number lookup and google voice numbers are listed as grandcentral in their service provider. that will tell u at the very least that its a GV number.
Well, after logging into Google voice, somehow her number (which is and has been blocked by Verizon) is listed as a secondary phone, receive text messages on this phone has been checked, PIN not required checked, and never ring. Multiple sign-in is enabled as well.
Just outstanding. Changed email to some bs address. Will verify and forget, as has password to something ridiculous. Any other suggestions?

Document everything that has happened, as thoroughly as possible. Get whatever confirmation you can from Google that shows that your account was somehow compromised.
This chica sounds like she is serious business and doesn't mind playing these games long term. If she compromised your communications you can be sure that it was not just some isolated fun. She most likely mined your account for whatever info she could, and it's possible that she sent things 'on your behalf' that she can later use to accuse you of something.
Change all of your passwords immediately: banking, paypal, email, etc. If she was able to compromise one, it's likely she got into another.
It sounds like worrying about Google Voice or your phone is the least of your concerns: the symptom rather than the disease.
Seriously consider retaining a lawyer for whatever may come of all this insanity.
Maybe it sounds like I'm overreacting but I've seen the havoc that can come from such a situation and from your description, this sounds like it could go all sorts of awful ways.
I dunno... I think you like her.
i think you should talk to the police about this... not XDA... or maybe springer... he always gets the truth out

This is so much BS. if you were really bothered by this person why do you talk to her? why do you bother with her? I think you are her stalker, thats more believable.
I have been stalked by a chick. Its creepy. You get stalked when they're fat and scary looking. So it is possible.
Didn't know that they controlled how fast you post on here if your a new user. That is insane. But understandable.

Aside from just simply changing your passwords, change your security questions to the accounts as well.
Document everything and hand it over to HR
There's also an option to change your google voice number, if you dont mind choosing a new one.
Somewhere in the settings on the desktop site.

Well I just got off the phone with sprint after asking them about froyo the guy started reading that bs script so half way through the guy reading the script I stopped him and said can you get me some real info please. Ok sir just one moment so after about 2 mins he came back and said froyo is schedule to be released feb 1st. I wouldn't even consider this a rumor or anything that should be believed. I think that even with all the (supposed) improvements in Sprint CS, it is absolutely pointless to ask any of them anything speculative or deeply technical. The experts are all right here and on "the googel." Leave the poor sops alone--you need a bill adjustment or credit, call them. You need expertise, come here. ^_^
Yeah if I have I a tech question I don't even call sprint tech anymore I just jump on here. But that script reading is funny ****. Half of the reps have rom read it cause they don't even know what group is.

first level CS not knowing, giving BS, I dont blame em. I always throw out the froyo question if I am calling anyways, just for this amusement... the first level people know less than the sales people at a sprint store. The BEST ones, MAYBE, are the ones who ask their supe, and its not a 2 min hold, its just a few seconds, and they come back and say they dont know, sorry. Now the tech support lady I was transferred to, who obviously had NO tech experience (supposedly second tier) did not know what 2.1 or 2.2 meant, so I said Froyo, then it was like a red flag, oh let me get my supe, I said no, I was more concerned with the replacement Epic I had just waited 5 days for that FC'd everything... system apps, everything. Its like their 'tech support' are there just to annoy you into driving to the sprint store so a tech can look at it in person. ONE guy was cool enough to set me up an appointment, and describe in the job ticket what they were to do, as they said my effed up display was cosmetic when I went in to the 'techs' previously. Anyways, never had to deal with them till I got an Epic... so I dont know if it changed. Dont get me wrong, my screen issue was either defect or a damaged connection cable, otherwise epic is solid.
Now the 'finance' department going to a comission basis, or at least acting like it, is bull****. I got two lines because I had a second job where I had to call in orders to landlines, taking hours at a time (Frontier FIOS), then left the job and had issues with payments on two lines for just myself (nobody told me of seasonal hold on a line) and had to deal with finance. In the past, say 2 years ago and longer, they were AWESOME, they would work out any reasonable deal...but im guessing with the economy, they are pusing them to have all these stupid stipulations, etc. I know its my fault I am behind, I signed a contract, but in the past they were SO willing to do anything to keep my account, it was awesome. Also, anyone get a disconnect lately? No more handy redirect to customer service/finance... now its just a 1970s phone company voice saying you are not authorized to make a call to this number, please try again later... cheaped out on that system too....
BUT, still cheapest carrier, and better CS all around than VZ, any division...

I've worked in call centers for quite a while and it's not the fault of the agents when management defines a script for them and doesn't give them anything else to work with. Understand when you work in a job like that, everything you say is recorded and if you deviate from the script and start throwing your opinion out there you risk your job.
I'm fortunate that now, while I'm still on the phone, I provide tech support to the gov so generally I get a lot more leeway than I did in previous jobs. But there still are pre-written scripts I have to rattle off in certain circumstances, and usually to very important people. Ironically, they almost never give me a hard time because unlike the whiny residential customers at a previous job, these people actually understand that we have procedures and policies to follow for the sake of legality / security / confidentiality / modus operandi.
In short, I'm glad I don't have to talk to people like you anymore!

While the agent shouldn't have made up a date (I'm our team's trainer and that's one of the first things I teach our people, "don't BS, you'll get caught"), if you pressure someone for something they don't have, you get what you deserve.

Hehe well starting a sentence with "Look, Sir" and ending with "I don't have a clue" is a great way to turn a frustrated caller into an irate one.
But yeah, "I wish I could answer that question but we haven't been provided with a release date yet. We've been told that the update is in the works and should be released in the near future. Do you have any other questions I might be able to help with?"
It sounds lame but if you sympathize too much with a caller, they suddenly want to spend 20 minutes telling you their life story (time you generally aren't allowed to spend chit-chatting). If you are too cold and uncaring, they get ticked off. So you're stuck basically with "Yeah I feel for you, but here's what I can do for you / tell you. Do you need anything else?"

Would that have changed your opinion or would it have been another "confirmation that Sprint doesn't know what they're doing"? In looking at the overabundance of posts on Froyo I"m guessing that a post would have developed stating something like " Just called tech support. Asked them about Froyo. Customer service doesn't know what the hell they are doing cuz they couldn't answer my question... I'm switching to Verizon because I'm tired of the lack of support that Sprint/Samsung/America(since international Galaxy devices have froyo) provides." Sound bout right?
Now I understand why so many Devs are starting to jump ship from the site.
/end pointless rant.
Sorry didn't mean to come off as an ass but I can say and truly mean, unless you walk a mile in their shoes... Try dealing with so many people on a daily basis asking the same damn questions. It gets a bit repetative and annoying I'd say pretty much anything to get people to shut up. Especially once they start with the I know more than you tone.
No im very patiently waiting for froyo please don't get me wrong...im very happy with my setup but you guys have explained it better from thier point of view thank you and obviously understand how it works better than a sixteen year old(Me 8/) so thanks i wasn't angry about sprint/samsung just that the guy lied thought he couldv'e said something else but w/e i undertand.
and im not a person who is always on here *****ing/moaning i try to help anyone out if i can and answer questions so hopefully our Amazing devs have more time to focus on thier hobbies and not answer questions.
Not everyone that works for sprint cs is stupid.... I agree not all reps are the best but love the way u guys treat us... bullshiz

I for one don't really worry about froyo, my phone is stock and I like it the way it is. I think that this fasination with it has gone wayyy overboard.
The way I see it is that we will get it when they release it, until then just enjoy using the best phone on the market

Plus a number of other Google apps like Voice Search, updates to Gmail and Youtube, and features like voice dialing over Bluetooth, improved memory management, installing apps to the SD card, data backup APIs, error reporting, improved Exchange support/security....I think that's almost everything.

Big Brother Lives In CA & Coming to A State Near You

First let me start off by saying I'm a noob, a virgo, and like taking long walks on the beach LOL. I have been lurking around for the past couple of months and have learned a lot from the great people that like to help and share information. This is indeed a great community of people. This is my first post so if it seems long winded I apologize. Now my reason for my thread title. I live in Phoenix AZ (I know it's a dry heat), I was watching the news tonight and they did a story on the search of cell phones by the police. It seems that in California if you get stopped for anything, traffic ticket, jay walking, ect. and your cell phone is within arms length of you, the officer can ask for your phone and can search through it no search warrant needed! Yes that means anything and everything that is on your phone is free game (I find that a little strange since last year a husband went to court over accessing his wife's email and reading it.) But as the story was told California Supreme court upheld the ruling which again states that any person who comes in contact with a law enforcement officer can have their cell phone "looked at". This means call history, web sites visited, your phone book, and any and all information that is stored on your device. The only catch is that the device has to be within arms reach of the person. I am not a criminal, never even had a traffic ticket, but the thought of someone going through my phone drives me crazy. I keep my phone locked with a passcode, so would that mean that I would have to unlock my device for them to snoop through it? Anyway I found this interesting and I thought that I would share it with anyone who cares. My question is, of all of the talent that is in this community, has there ever been an app made like a "kill all pill", something that with just the touch of a button your device would be reset to factory settings and/or scrub the sd card? Just a thought. Once again thank you for allowing me to gain more knowledge of my device and to share in the community. Keep up the great work!

I saw the same report about California on our news.
I have news for you, I will never consider living in that state.
That is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS and a step away from the government having video cameras in your house.
I don't know what you can do exactly.
If you ever get pulled over, send the ***** into your custom recovery and format all.
Scary what this country is turning into.
Just toss the phone in the back seat.
I'd actually be kinda curious about the existence of such an app, also....
Ridiculous is all I can say

I completely agree with you but unfortunately in this day and age "unconstitutional" doesn't mean a damned thing.
The Patriot act is "unconstitutional"...
Actually I just decided to NOT list all the things that are "unconstitutional" that are realities, I don't have that kind of time.

"Tase me, bro."
*smash*
*I'm assuming this is similar to the 'plug n' pull' (ya like that?) that was mentioned before. If all it takes is smashing the phone to ****, well, I'd do it in a heartbeat. If I just had pr0n on my phone I wouldn't even care. But that never touches my phone. Nor my computer; felt the need to add that. I'm talking serious business. Not that 'phone tapping' couldn't be possible (yes, it can happen to us all) but anything to shut an effort down. I'd even smash my rooted device and give up a chance of rooted glory for all the bull**** that could come of it. I hate cops. I've had some horrible experiences with them in the past. I'm not a 'blah blah f*ck you' to the face anymore, but I don't play that ****. You can instantly tell when a cop is on the push, and usually it is because you are in a bad situation. But some trivial ****? Nah, I don't, and won't, play that.
Keep your phone locked. If they ask for the pass code, tell them no.

I don't think it works like that, provided this was similar to the talk before ... your 'ish' gets plugged in and by some 'miracle super duper government cop pull' they jack any and everything off your phone.
I'd like some clarification though. I haven't seen a link, but this sounds pretty similar to the talk before.
I'd honestly laugh if this was a, "Gimme your phone son. Ok, how do I see your 'texties?'"

They have a device they can hook the phone up to which copies all of the data.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying this sounds like. 'That talk before.'
If you could honestly lock your phone and deny access, well, that's a massive failure on their part. That is what I was saying. It sounds like all that business mentioned a month or two ago.

Locking the phone will do nothing.
I suppose you can wipe the phone but, as we all know, the only way to truly destroy data is acid.
Right. If I am remembering correctly it was mentioned as such before. That's what I was saying. I wouldn't be surprised if this was being considered in Illinois. I should make a point of turning my phone off / removing the card everytime we / I get pulled over. Swallow the card if it appears suspect and smash the phone. I'd totally get tasered over as much.*

Im glad I live in Sin City
Just another reason for me to hate living in Cali. I must have missed the report but I remember about a month or so ago some state in the north eastern part of the us displayed a new device just for cell phones that police were beginning to use. Basically it comes with universal plug or what ever and totally scans phone in a matter of seconds. All contents are then stored in said device for further review. files included absolutely everything! Pictures, videos, internet history/cache, emails, call history etc. Welcome to socialism! California is leading the way.

Just use titanium backup and dropbox. Then if being pulled over just boot to recovery and format all. Might still be able to recover the data though. We need a secure format option.

Police officers can ask for lots of things. You don't have to give it to them. If an officers asks if he can look in your trunk you can say no, if they ask to come into your house you can say no, if they ask you anything you can remain silent. So if you have something on your phone that you don't want the police to see, just say no when they ask if they can look at it.
I have seen police go to apartments where the neighbor reported that someone was smoking pot. They can smell the pot, but if no one answers the door, or the person who answers does not let them in they can't take any further action.

While I won't dispute Cali's socialist leanings, this is NOT evidence of it. Evidense of Fascism? Sure is! Socialism? No. There are big differences between communism and socialsim, and both can be facist...but so can democracy. Fascism is the real evil. Socialism and communism are only theoretical evils that tend to die off as time progresses (though either one work very well in small communities. Funny thing: almost any humane fiscal system can work, and work well, on a small scale...it is when one starts dealing with larger societies that the sh1t hits the fan). But this is all far more political than is allowed.

Someone hasn't been paying attention to what is going on
What is "allowed" and what has been actually happening are two completely different things. Wanna see a video of people being body-slammed and tied up for dancing at the Jefferson monument? Minute 2:40 is when they tell someone that they will be arrested for continuing to record.
Here is a news report on the incident
