Adw launcher ex - Fascinate General

So.. I find that I really like ADWlauncher EX.. would it benefit me to disable touchwiz move adw to a system folder?

Will doing so regain system resources? Yes. Will doing so break the built in Facebook syncing? Also yes.

I find that using Home Switcher and making the "other" launcher the default is more then enough for me to forget about touchwiz! I use to use the quickdesk as the default but never used it so I got rid of it. Now I just have launcherpro plus as the default and am more then happy with it!

.. How about launcher pro.. Any bad effects with that? .. And will it save battery life? Run quicker? With tw disabled?

You can really see a difference in loading time for your widget/application list when adding a widget to your home screens.

Launcher problem

I'm running nero v3 with voodoo, and having a weird issue. Don't believe it's the rom though. Anyway, I've noticed I now have a program called launcher running when I go to task manager, and if I close it, all my icons on my maun page disappear, and it loads the stock icons. Even with a reboot, it boots the stock icons. It's a pain because I have to put my icons back. Any idea what's going on?

You should always have some sort of "launcher' running. Thats what controls the app drawer and everything else. Dont kill it.
Yeah, but it wasn't running when I first instilled the rom. I trend to close things with task manager, and I sometimes accidentally close it. Is there a way to get back my icons if I do?

Do you mean you have customized icons instead of he stock ones?
You should always have a launcher active.

No, I just mean I place beautiful widgets, and all the icons I normally use, and when I accidentally close launcher, all icons I placed on my desktop are gone, and I have to place them all back. It's a pain. I know I should just not kill the launcher, but I accidentally close it when I close other programs.

Okay, now my icons come back when I close launcher. Weird, but just glad I don't have to place them again.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
If you only have one launcher and kill it with tasker operations on launcher will forced to start again. Install backup launcher with your widgets as well ; )
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Launcher is like touchwiz. It is the interface. If you kill it it wilk have to start again and takes more battery.
Nero v3 does not have tw unless you dl that version.
So you are not allowing the interface controlling your os to be there. Your essentially killing the controls to ur phone.

Thanks for the recommendation. I was using ADW Launcher for a while and then switched to Go Launcher and really like that one. I've never heard of Circle Launcher so I'll check it out.
I found it to be a little laggy too, and was looking for an alternative. Checked out the simi folder mentioned above and I like it a lot.
not a fan of circle launcher.
I dislike how the app is called "Circle Launcher" when it isn't actually a launcher. It basically just makes fancy folders (only using the resources of a widget), which for me, seems unnecessary.

Agreed....I use launcher pro plus, and the scrollable dock station allows me to accomplish the same taks...Only faster.

It's pretty much using the Gingerbread Launcher as a base rather than Froyo. It's odd though, even if you're not using it as your main launcher when you uninstall anything the launcher crashes.
I've experienced this on CM7 as well as EC05.

There is nothing that can match GO Launcher EX.I used them all and this is the best one followed by Zeam launcher.
Adw launcher ex. Its just the bomb. I hope I get a free upgrade.

+1 ADW Launcher EX is by far my favorite home replacement. I love the hidden dockbar. This beta a is not good... At all. They'll fix it before long, I'm sure.

Dumb question, but how do you activate/deactivate the hidden dockbar? I have had this as my home replacement but haven't been able to figure that out....
If you want to enable/disable, go Settings -> More -> ADWSettings -> UI Settings -> Dockbar
If you want to use it, swipe up from bottom of screen to bring up hidden dockbar, swipe down from top of hidden dockbar to hide it.
I always lock my desktop (especially after customizing either dockbars) b/c if I don't I always end up screwing up my dockbars by dragging icons off of them. Some launchers have dockbar launching icon which is handy, but the only thing I don't like is that it doesn't look like you can edit it or move it.

Why does everyone like GO launcher so much? The themes are awful

Home launcher replacements

First let me say I'm not rooted. With that out of the way, are there any home launchers that are optimized for this tegra 2 phone? I've used ADW, Launcher pro, and Go Launcher and all 3 of them ran slightly slower than just using the stock launcher.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Since dual core is so new there are no launchers or even many apps that make any use of the extra power
sent from my rooted, canadian Motorola Atrix (4G)
Unfortunately that's what I was afraid of. Has anyone had any success with a home launcher running fast and smoothly on a non rooted atrix?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
GO Launcher EX ran fast on my non-rooted Atrix. There are a lot of settings for GO Launcher and I just set all the transitions to the fastest settings and it ran fine. I didn't notice any lag at all. I'm rooted now and I'm still using GO Launcher EX.
In fact I'm using all their add-ons for SMS, Dialer, Weather, Score, etc and they all run pretty fast on the Atrix.

When you installed the launcher, did you remove all the widgets you had on the stock launcher? If you didn't, they'll still be there running even when you use a new launcher. Remove everything then add the new launcher and set it up the way you like. Should be a lot smoother.
Also, have you tried Zeam? It's fairly minimal but quick.

Or he could just freeze the stock launcher with titanium backup that works well.

Yeah, I went through all the usual proper steps. Just for kicks I just reinstalled go launcher a few hours ago. Within 1 hour it started freezing my phone causing my screen to either stutter or just go totally unresponsive. Going to go back to adw and see if it happens with that

Same here. It's the best option for Android phones.
Do you think the Fancy Widget clock widget might be a problem? I've read that it does some funky freezing to some people.

It's a strong possibility.
Since my Galaxy S, I've stopped using all running widgets.
Actually come to think of it, all my current icons are shortcuts which is probably why Launcher Pro runs as smooth as butter for me...

My LWP runs MUCH smoother after freezing all the recommended stuff I'm on GingerBlur 3.5 BTW
JUST ROOT!!
Running adw ex.. noo slow downs whatsoever
Xda app via atrix
+1 for zeam, I've been using it for months now and its very smooth. It is very minimal by comparison to most others though.... which is what I was looking for actually.
Im using go launcher and having no problems whatsoever... I also use fancy widget on my home screen.
Have also used both lpp and adw* both ran pretty good as well. I just prefer go launcher

Root, flash GladiAtrix 3, then use ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro. I use both. You will see a significant speed increase.
Hmmm I might bite the bullet and do that. What's the best root method for a bell canadian atrix?

Get to the french 2.1.1 sbf section and get to there... Its seriously fun
on a side note go launcher ex just got updated and there are some new app drawer animations that I like.

Ive used both Launcher Pro Plus and GO Launcher EX extensively, and GO Launcher EX has been the smoothest, fastest, best launcher.
I can vouch for the new update with the Icon Transition in the app drawer, its pretty slick. Good stuff here.. not sure how the GO team keeps this stuff free.
same as post above, golauncher is just as good if not better than lp plus, and its free. no brainer

Sub-categories for widgets

I know there's an app that makes sub-categories that group Widgets based on the app they come from but I can't think of the name of it, the setup I'm looking for is found in the widget menu of cm7.
It's actually based on the Launcher you're using. CM7 uses ADW as its stock launcher, which includes that functionality.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I swear I remember seeing an app for it, I'm using ADW EX and mine aren't grouped and IIRC there isn't a setting for it....

I used launcherpro plus with cm7 and still had that functionality, so it might be deeper that that.
I too would like to know if there is an app for this because that feature is awesome!
