Changing the bottom tray

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I was wondering if there's a way to modify the permanent tray at the bottom of the screen? I want to put my chompsms link in place of the default messaging link. Thank you in advance.

Try using launcher pro it allows you to do this and is more customizable than samsung's default launcher. I just started using it myself and prefer it a lot more

If you open the app tray and press the menu button you will get an option for view type. Select customize. Press menu button again and select edit. You can now change the center two icons

Actually you are the beginning of it...

Launcher pro > LIFE ITSELF

You learn something new everyday. No idea the menu button did anything in the app tray. Thank you. And I've tried both launchers. This is probably blasphemy but I don't like either. *runs and ducks for cover*

i also think the stock setup is good. its better now that i know we can change the 2 icons.

There are tons of these types of apps in the market. Here's a list of the ones I thought were good:
Open Home
Live Home
Launcher Pro
ADW
aHome
dxTop
Of those, I'd have to say Launcher Pro and Live Home are my favorites.

Home Screen

I friend of mine has the Captivate, and when they edit the home screen, there is an option to make any particular screen the default without having to move them around to certain orders.
Anybody know what she may have loaded that gives that option?

It's not LauncherPro (unless there is some setting in there that I can't find), cause her home screen looks just like the default, is edited just like the default with that one difference.
I will check out ADW to see if that is it.
**EDIT** Just tried ADW, and it does not do what I was talking about in my original post, unless it also has some settings somewhere that I just can't find.

on JH3 with TwLauncher the screens can be moved around with your finger. the one with the HOME icon on it represents your home screen

Launcher Pro can do that.
[Menu] -> preferences-> home screen preferences-> default screen.

But it's not looking like the default home screens like hers does. I just will wait for her to let me know what she has loaded to have it like that.

I use zeam. It does that and looks stock.

Absoluelty horrible Glitch on 2.2 (Please Read)

Hey guys, I found a nasty little bug that has made my epic unusable. Basically if you have all your home screen pages filled up and decide to create a shortcut of an app (in this case it was dolphin browser) from inside the app, Touch Wiz will crash no matter how many time you reboot the phone. All other programs work just fine, however touchwiz will without fail crash. I am trying to find a way around this without reflashing but it looks like that is my only option. Be warned everyone EB13 is not ready for prime time.
Edit: Found a quick work around, just install launcher pro from the market and hit the home button and switch your launcher to launcher pro. Now can anyone tell me how to switch back?

So why not use something other than tw? Why would you load up that many icons on 7 pages? Home Switcher from market...

I didnt I had 3 full pages. Also turns out even turning off touchwiz and switching back to it ruins it. Also not the appropriate place for this but isn't possible to add more homescreens to launcher pro. But thankyou for the advice.

Yes you can add screens to launcherpro by hitting (from launcherpro) menu>preferences>homescreen settngs. To fix touchwiz, hit menu>settings>applications>all, scroll down to TWlauncher cick it, and clear everything.

Sounds like a bug in Touchwiz, not Froyo.

Thank you XDA for helping me through what was pretty much me over reacting.

I would really urge you to play around with Launcher Pro for a while. Try the different settings and see what they all do. I can't imagine using Touchwiz now. I love the way launcherpro both looks and works.

Aug 31st... the first day I had my phone I moved to Launcher Pro and haven't looked back... not a single reason to use TW

Try hitting menu/settings/apps/manage apps/all.
Find twlauncher and clear data and cache. It will likely blow out anything you had on you screens but may allow you to use it again if that's what you are looking for.

TW is for folk who want their phone to feel more iOSish, and if that's what they want, meh. More power to 'em.
I used LP for a long time, but am giving Go Launcher a whirl these days. I kinda like it even more, but...
Ugh, Launcherpro has THE BEST agenda widget on Android. No free widget I've tried even comes close. Really frustrating.

Got my phone in august 31, moved to launcherpro sept 4, havent looked back either, its great, especially with the scrollable dock and all the customizations you can do!!

Meh - LP is pretty good but I suspect most people don't use most of the options, making it kind-of big. I haven't found a better option though. It's pretty darn good.

I use LauncherPro, and I have long since deleted both TouchWiz an the stock launcher from the /system/apps/ folder. It frees up a bit of space.

Yeah this is what I was going to suggest. It WILL delete all your settings related to the launcher.

Why fill your homescreens with apps anyway...talk about cludered ...

Home launcher replacements

First let me say I'm not rooted. With that out of the way, are there any home launchers that are optimized for this tegra 2 phone? I've used ADW, Launcher pro, and Go Launcher and all 3 of them ran slightly slower than just using the stock launcher.

Since dual core is so new there are no launchers or even many apps that make any use of the extra power

GO Launcher EX ran fast on my non-rooted Atrix. There are a lot of settings for GO Launcher and I just set all the transitions to the fastest settings and it ran fine. I didn't notice any lag at all. I'm rooted now and I'm still using GO Launcher EX.
In fact I'm using all their add-ons for SMS, Dialer, Weather, Score, etc and they all run pretty fast on the Atrix.

When you installed the launcher, did you remove all the widgets you had on the stock launcher? If you didn't, they'll still be there running even when you use a new launcher. Remove everything then add the new launcher and set it up the way you like. Should be a lot smoother.
Also, have you tried Zeam? It's fairly minimal but quick.

Or he could just freeze the stock launcher with titanium backup that works well.

Yeah, I went through all the usual proper steps. Just for kicks I just reinstalled go launcher a few hours ago. Within 1 hour it started freezing my phone causing my screen to either stutter or just go totally unresponsive. Going to go back to adw and see if it happens with that

Same here. It's the best option for Android phones.

Do you think the Fancy Widget clock widget might be a problem? I've read that it does some funky freezing to some people.

It's a strong possibility.
Since my Galaxy S, I've stopped using all running widgets.
Actually come to think of it, all my current icons are shortcuts which is probably why Launcher Pro runs as smooth as butter for me...

My LWP runs MUCH smoother after freezing all the recommended stuff I'm on GingerBlur 3.5 BTW

+1 for zeam, I've been using it for months now and its very smooth. It is very minimal by comparison to most others though.... which is what I was looking for actually.

Im using go launcher and having no problems whatsoever... I also use fancy widget on my home screen.
Have also used both lpp and adw* both ran pretty good as well. I just prefer go launcher

Root, flash GladiAtrix 3, then use ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro. I use both. You will see a significant speed increase.

Hmmm I might bite the bullet and do that. What's the best root method for a bell canadian atrix?

on a side note go launcher ex just got updated and there are some new app drawer animations that I like.

Ive used both Launcher Pro Plus and GO Launcher EX extensively, and GO Launcher EX has been the smoothest, fastest, best launcher.
I can vouch for the new update with the Icon Transition in the app drawer, its pretty slick. Good stuff here.. not sure how the GO team keeps this stuff free.

same as post above, golauncher is just as good if not better than lp plus, and its free. no brainer

ADW EX Updated!

ADW EX has been updated today with a lot of fixes and options for Tablets including having the dock on the bottom in landscape and many more! There are tons of fixes for Honeycomb tablets especially for 10" screens. If you are an ADW EX user, but found it too buggy before, it night be good for you now! You can also set the secondary dock as the default which has scrolling like launcher pro.

Yep... I had stopped using it, but this was a killer update. It is really great now.

You can hide it albeit temporarily through launcher actions.

Log-in to the internet site with your browser, sign in with your username and password and then you can rate apps

im new to this, love the speed of the scrolling screen when i had a quick play. but looking for advice
i want a clean home screen with none of the + signs, adecent weather /time/date widget and app shortcuts same size as stock
what are people using for this sort of things decent add on recomendations would be great

How to change apperiance of main black dock? I can change only bar with 5 blank spots..not this bar for tablets.. Any ideas?

Ok, now that looks clean. I love not having those icons all over the screen. If this is from ADW, I'm tempted.

Only wish that we could put things all the way to the edge of the screen, with the dockbar. Can only do it without, and that's annoying too.

Is there a good way to set wallpapers with ADW? I keep getting a half black half wallpaper result.
