need some advice folks - Galaxy S I9000 General

hi guys and gals
I have a samsung galaxy that a followed a tutorial on youtube to install a custom firmware however since doing that people on the other end of the line are finding it hard to hear me, is this because i've used the wrong pit file, sure it was the 512 one, any advice that you have would be appreciated, am currently on darkys rom v8, and everything else is fine apart from the muffled sound on the other end of the line.
its a o2 phone uk btw, kind regards scottishdude

THANKS IN ADVANCE

have u asked the same on darky's thread? Did the problem arise after flashing to Darky's rom? Flash back to a stock firmware and let us know if u still have the problem.

as mentioned reflash stock JPY with 512pit and repart checked then follow the guide in my signature.

[Q] Question about Firmwares.

So i bought my tab a week ago, and since i was so used to xda and my htc phones i decided to flash the newest firmware ( which at that point was the JK5 ).
My firmware was P1000BUJI4 or P1000BUJI5 and i simply used odin 1.7 and the pit file called P1_20100909.pit to go to JK5. I never went to JJ4 ( do i needed to ? )
It went straight to JK5 with no problems, no repartion and direct boot was ok.
So i am seeing some new additions here.
People are flashing a db file after flashing the JM6 , why is that ? I own a euro tab and i have voice capability out of the box.
So if i try to go to JM6, do i have to flash that db file too or i dont ? Someone that knows should do a tutorial about what are the pit files do, and that db file and how is the proper flashing process.
I am not implying something, i am just saying that it should be done for the not so advanced users, so they wont brick their devices.
EDIT : Noone even caring to answer some simple questions ?
I think your questions are covered in the JM6 firmware thread in this section. The consensus seems to be that you don't need to flash the "db file" as you describe it. I'll be flashing a UK model tomorrow with this firmware so am interested in this too, but that thread is probably where you need to be asking (if it hasn't already been answered).

THanks for the answer, but the dbdata file had to be flashed so that i would be able to boot back to ui.
I found out everything i wanted the hard way, thanks for the answer though.

Updating the Galaxy Tab to the latest firmware !

Hey guys
I'm running the P1000JXJJ1, FroYo JPJJ2 firmware on my Tab, and samfirmware states P1000JVJL1 is the latest one !
so I was advised NOT to use KIES, and ODIN was better !!
My tab is rooted with OCLF set, Just a quick question, Odin will delete all my data and also I believe that I'd have to re-ROOT the device right?
another question is since I didn't have market out of the box, the product sales code has been changed to XSG.
thanks a lot guys in advance
Cheers
Jackie
if u use oclf, undo oclf b4 update firmware, kies or odin works fine for me, i'll only use odin when i screw up with my tab
and will I have to re root the device and also will ODIN delete all my data?
Hi,
searching for something else I accidentily found this thread.
Maybe my experince might be of any interest: got the galaxy tab 3 days ago, installed KIES and instantly got a message to update the firmware to Froyo JK5. I followed the suggestion to save my data which I regret later, because it took very long (had already copied a lot of videos to the internal sd) and couldn´t stop it. To cut it short:
the update was successful and nothing deleted, just everything in place. Also synchronized Outlook contacts, though at 96% it got stuck - waited a few minutes, then broke up and all contacts had been transferred fine.
(don´t know, if firmware is different for other countries...)
Odin will not delete your data if you did not choose to repartition, no need to use pit file to repartition if you are just upgrading fw from the same region..safest is still via KIES
To correct some mis-information from above. Flashing with Odin can delete your data, it depends on what components are included in the image you flash. If you flash an official ROM with Kies you should not loose your data but there is always a risk of an issue occurring during any flash that could lead to data loss. Unless you flash a pre-rooted custom ROM you will loose root and SU during a flash. These can be re-applied easily to the SGT using the Super One-Click method.
Redardless of what flashing method you use, if you use RyanZA's OCLF you must undo the lag fix before you flash, otherwise you will certainly loose data and possibly end up with a corrupt system that won't boot (I had first hand experience of this early on in my flashing days with my SGS!). You shouldn't really need to apply a lagfix to the SGT as it doesn't seem to suffer from the same lag as the SGS.
Finally, flashing with Odin can lead to product code being changed, especially if the ROM you flash isn't intended for the normal product code of your device. There are various ways to restore your poduct code, look in the Samsung Galaxy S forums for suggestions on how to do this as the basic construction of the ROMs is very similar between the two devices from that point of view. Also, be aware that people with SGS devices have reported loosing their IMEI while flashing with Odin. If this happens you will end up with a WiFi only device unless you backed up your /efs folder before you flashed. There's lots of info in the SGS forums about this and it's worth a read if you are new to flashing. I haven't heard of anyone with a SGT loosing their IMEI yet but it's worth taking precautions.
Happy flashing folks!!
thanks a bunch guys, I'm now running the latest version !!
was just trying to install the latest gingerbread theme from the forums !! will let you all know how that went

Go to the Android Development section.
Look up Overcome and BOCA for the Galaxy Tab. Both a great however I prefer BOCA. The current release is 2.3.4 but 2.3.7 is in the works.
If you follow the instructions for BOCA you will have a GTab that feels like it was newly born again.

Yes. Follow the instructions on the magrathea site or overcome
Use overcome instructions to instal stock GB 5. It tells you the pit and modem to use for your tab.
Then install the overcome kernel and reboot. It will root the tab and format the storage.
Then you install the Boca zip over the overcome kernel.
If you just want overcomes Rom follow their instructions. They make it simple
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
is that all??hmm,
will try donload all the files 1st,then i will try
thanks guyz for da info..
so i dont need to flash stock rom like i always do with my SGS before installing any custom rom?

Almost there. Help with modem hurdle please.

Hi there.
Thanks for all the work people do here. I've read a lot and learned a lot and for someone who's not very technical I've actually managed to root my i9000, install ICS and even flash semaphore.
Unfortunately, I've stumbled at the final hurdle. I downloaded a .tar of modems for Telus in Canada, used Odin to flash and... it failed.
I've even downloaded Perka's files but to be honest I'm at a loss what to do with with it.
Will anyone direct me to the right modem kernel for the job or perhaps let me know what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you in advance.
Daniel
Didnt the ICS ROM u flashed came with its own modem?

[Q] How to flash I9000 on CM9? from 2.3.6 TMZ BOJW6

Hello,
I own GT - I9000 with STOCK ROM exactly this one (2.3.6 TMZ - Baseband i9000XXJW4; and Build number - gingerbread.BOJW6)
And I wanna root and flash from stock to custom rom (CM9).
Before posting I tried to root my SGS by SuperOneClick 2.3.3, however it stopped in the step 7. And now I would like to use ODIN for this. But I will do this once and I dont want to make hard brick from my phone. I am confused in this terms like PDA,CSC atc. And I dont know where to find new ones.
It´s possible to join files to this thread for ODIN for rooting and flashing?
It´s needed to upload new kernel, baseband (PDA,CSC and so on) on the phone?
Please would you mind to clear this issue up for me?
Thank you very much.
MM
Please help me, I am beginner in this trouble...

[Q] L720 now thinks it is an M919

I'm not so excited about posting a question as I see many have gone unanswered specifically in this variant's section, but here goes nothing.
I accidentally downloaded DU (Dirty Unicorns) for the T-Mobile variant by searching up DU for tje S4 on Google and sadly i forgot to specify "Sprint" or "L720". While there where no issues running the ROM, I decided I had to flash back to a Sprint based rom. Somewhere down the road I decided to flash back to stock (using the stock OD2 currently available) and now my device still shows up as an M919 with absolutely no data (seems to be roaming if I'm not mistaking).
I tried to reflash TWRP, flash Sprint based roms (AOSP will fix the issue temporarily, while TW roms such as Wicked X will experience the same issue), FULL wiping through TWRP, and then reflashing stock, but the issue persists. Does anybody happen to have a solution, suggestion, or idea? And a HUGE thanks in advanced.
I think you need to flash a full firmware with a pit file in Odin. Just visit sammobile, create an account and you're good to go. Lemme know if you have further questions
Try to flash OD2 .tar (get it from sammobile) with odin and then root ur phone again. That should fix the problem
Never heard of a pit file, always thought that it was limited to .tar and .bin, but I found my solution which I will post below.
PS How do I hit the thanks button on your comment since it has no "interface" to it?
I tried that and it didn't work. I already had OD2 as my default "flash if something goes wrong".
I'll post my solution in a new answer below.
Sorry for neglecting my own thread to the both of you who answered, I'm just not liking all of the new updates to the XDA website which will crash my browser or freeze all my tabs due to an overloaded amount of crap and ads running in the background of the site (sorry XDA, huge fan, but not as of lately). Apart from that, I also experience issues on the mobile version and right now I cannot find the button to thank the both of you.
ANYWAYS, back on topic, I was able to solve my issue by flashing an older 4.4.2 based stock (NAE) THEN flashing the OD2 right after that. Oddly enough, I was able to update to OH2 (stagefright patch) over the air. Doesn't the ability to update OTA die once you trip the KNOX Warranty bit???
And thank you both. If somebody explains how I can hit your thanks button now that XDA has updated yet again, I will thank you both properly
