So i bought my tab a week ago, and since i was so used to xda and my htc phones i decided to flash the newest firmware ( which at that point was the JK5 ).
My firmware was P1000BUJI4 or P1000BUJI5 and i simply used odin 1.7 and the pit file called P1_20100909.pit to go to JK5. I never went to JJ4 ( do i needed to ? )
It went straight to JK5 with no problems, no repartion and direct boot was ok.
So i am seeing some new additions here.
People are flashing a db file after flashing the JM6 , why is that ? I own a euro tab and i have voice capability out of the box.
So if i try to go to JM6, do i have to flash that db file too or i dont ? Someone that knows should do a tutorial about what are the pit files do, and that db file and how is the proper flashing process.
I am not implying something, i am just saying that it should be done for the not so advanced users, so they wont brick their devices.
EDIT : Noone even caring to answer some simple questions ?
I think your questions are covered in the JM6 firmware thread in this section. The consensus seems to be that you don't need to flash the "db file" as you describe it. I'll be flashing a UK model tomorrow with this firmware so am interested in this too, but that thread is probably where you need to be asking (if it hasn't already been answered).

THanks for the answer, but the dbdata file had to be flashed so that i would be able to boot back to ui.
I found out everything i wanted the hard way, thanks for the answer though.

Please Help.
I have the US-Tmobile tab (SGH-T849). As you can see in the attached file, it has the JJB Firmware.
It is rooted with Clockwork Recovery installed and Sim-Unlocked.
Strangely, I cannot find this JJB rom on the Samsung website (USA latest "JJx" is JJ3) - so I guess mine is older than Oct 2010. Anyway, I want to flash the latest EURo ROM (JMC) that is available to make voice calls with this device.
Tell me what ROMS I need to flash to get from JJB >> JMC, Please?
What I could find in the forums so far is the examples to first flash JM6, and/or JMA and then higher. Is that the upgrade path I need to take and if not, what ROMS do I need to flash?
Thanks
I second this. I have the tmo tab, looking to go up to jma but so confused about all the pit files and such. I have read over and over but nothing its clear enough about the type of tab it works on and I have a feeling I cant just flash the whole jma.tar to my tab as is
I third that.
Sent from my SGH-T849 using XDA App
I fourth that.. Any expert here to help us?

Hi,
I bought 3 monthes ago a european galaxy tab that has the JJ3 firmware. I wanted to know if I could directly flash the JMG one onto the tab ? I'm asking this because I saw a thread where someone was flashing from a JJ* to JM6 and then JMF I think. Is it necessary to do those extra steps ?
Thanks,

You can flash straight to JMG from JJ3 fine. If you look in the JMG thread in the Tab development forum, on page 3 (I think) I've posted a link to a stock JMG package which contains everything you need but doesn't contain bootloaders. Don't use the link Chainfire posted in the first post as it doesn't have dbdata.rfs included in the package and your Tab probably won't boot if you flash that. I'm sure you've seen the threads about bootloaders but just as a reminder, beware of flashing any ROM that may contain them as you could hard brick your phone if the flash goes wrong.
Hi guys
Ive just had my phone replaced and as a result I need to re-apply my root file,
My problem is I haven't been on the forum for a while and now I cant seam to find it.
I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 which would be fine, if i could work out what CF-root version I need for android ver 2.3.5
Could someone point me to the old thread with the root file ? ( placed at root of phone, 3 button & apply method)
Or
Could someone link me to the relevant CF Root file? (already have odin & thread above has everything I need to carry it out apart from the file.)
Also apologies in advance if Ive overlooked something or being an idiot, figured this would be straight forward
What's your firmware version?
Sorry I didn't really make it very clear in the beginning, Im using an Orange branded phone and i cannot find the relevant code for my build. I am still pretty new to all this having only previously run versions of Darky rom.
Here is the vital info :
Android Version 2.3.5 ( I read in another thread superoneclick is incompatible with 2.3.5 due to the boot-loader may be locking with gingerbread, anyone confirm this ? )
Bulild Number :Gingerbread.BVJVC
Basically I was looking to root my phone because I want to swap over to Hellybean & also purchase a few of the well known root apps ie CWM, Titaniam backup, These are so I can backup the existing phone in a reversible condition should it be needed later down the line.
I know I don't need to have root access to flash to Hellybean, but I do in order to make those security backups ill need root.
Anyone Help ?
The reason why you didn't find a CF-root kernel is, that the thread you found is for the S2. In the S1 thread, you'll find what you're looking for.

hey dude if i do a flashing faliure will kies fix it?
What FW is on your phone right now? and what are you trying to upgrade to?
Questions belong in Q&A, not General.
Thank you.
Now that this is in the correct place...
Stock ROMs do not come in a flashable zip format. Kies is not going to help you in this regard, and is absolutely useless for fixing flashing problems that may crop up. Thus, you'll have to use Odin, like it or not.
I'm assuming you want to upgrade your ROM, so please post the following information:
1. Model Number
2. Android Version, found by going to Settings > More > About device.
3. Firmware Version (AP, CP, CSC), found by dialing *#1234# in the dialer or by installing Phone Info from the Play Store and running it.
4. Service Provider
5. Country
6. Is the phone rooted? (Yes/No)
7. Is a custom ROM installed? (Yes/No, and the name of the ROM)
Some of this may seem redundant, but putting it all in one post makes it easier to help you.
I'm not so excited about posting a question as I see many have gone unanswered specifically in this variant's section, but here goes nothing.
I accidentally downloaded DU (Dirty Unicorns) for the T-Mobile variant by searching up DU for tje S4 on Google and sadly i forgot to specify "Sprint" or "L720". While there where no issues running the ROM, I decided I had to flash back to a Sprint based rom. Somewhere down the road I decided to flash back to stock (using the stock OD2 currently available) and now my device still shows up as an M919 with absolutely no data (seems to be roaming if I'm not mistaking).
I tried to reflash TWRP, flash Sprint based roms (AOSP will fix the issue temporarily, while TW roms such as Wicked X will experience the same issue), FULL wiping through TWRP, and then reflashing stock, but the issue persists. Does anybody happen to have a solution, suggestion, or idea? And a HUGE thanks in advanced.
I think you need to flash a full firmware with a pit file in Odin. Just visit sammobile, create an account and you're good to go. Lemme know if you have further questions
Try to flash OD2 .tar (get it from sammobile) with odin and then root ur phone again. That should fix the problem
Never heard of a pit file, always thought that it was limited to .tar and .bin, but I found my solution which I will post below.
PS How do I hit the thanks button on your comment since it has no "interface" to it?
I tried that and it didn't work. I already had OD2 as my default "flash if something goes wrong".
I'll post my solution in a new answer below.
Sorry for neglecting my own thread to the both of you who answered, I'm just not liking all of the new updates to the XDA website which will crash my browser or freeze all my tabs due to an overloaded amount of crap and ads running in the background of the site (sorry XDA, huge fan, but not as of lately). Apart from that, I also experience issues on the mobile version and right now I cannot find the button to thank the both of you.
ANYWAYS, back on topic, I was able to solve my issue by flashing an older 4.4.2 based stock (NAE) THEN flashing the OD2 right after that. Oddly enough, I was able to update to OH2 (stagefright patch) over the air. Doesn't the ability to update OTA die once you trip the KNOX Warranty bit???
And thank you both. If somebody explains how I can hit your thanks button now that XDA has updated yet again, I will thank you both properly
