Battery Life

Rather than clogging up other threads with my battery experiences, I thought I'd summarise where I'm at, and see how other people are doing with their battery life.
So I started yesterday on a full charge, and by 2ish the phone was dead. I used it fairly heavily, but wifi was off. I don't think I made any phone calls, and didn't use gps. It was mainly messaging and using the xda app. I had changed my screen brightness to auto the night before, so thought this might have reduced the battery life.
I then left the phone off, and charged through till just before 5pm. At this stage, the phone was up to between 90-100% charge. My intention was to see if I could get through to this afternoon on this charge. Last night I made a phone call for about half an hour, and used gps for about 10 mins driving in the car. Other than that it was a bit of messaging and browsing, but not heavy use by any stretch of the imagination. I had wifi off, facebook sync every 4 hours, and screen brightness set to about 50%.
This morning I woke to less than 10% charge on the battery, so have left the phone at home charging, and I'm back to my hero...at least for the morning.
I must admit, I'm starting to get concerned, because I really don't think I'm using this phone more than my Hero, and I could easily get a day out of it (unless I was going for a long run using some kind of gps app).
What are other people's experiences? I'm surprised I'm not hearing more about this, and I'm hoping mine is just a one off!
**UPDATE**
Today, 12 hours after taking my phone off charge, I have just under 20% charge remaining. The phone is now on it's fourth cycle, and although I haven't used the phone quite as heavily as yesterday, I have still used it quite a bit and have had WiFi on the whole time. This is still not amazing battery life, but it is still much improved. It definitely illustrates that the battery may take a few charge cycles before it optimises itself.

My first full day was yesterday.
WiFi on all the time. Screen brightness set to automatic. Twitter and facebook refreshing every hour. Weather every 4 hours.
Unplugged the phone at 7am, 100% charge.
During the morning I flashed the phone twice (due to the proximity sensor issue) so it probably recieved an extra 10 mins of charge.
Following the flashing, WiFi went straight back on so I could download all the apps again, and resync sense and all the contacts. There was some playing of games, some use of Google Goggles (so camera use there) and some web browsing.
By 13:00 I was down to 90% battery - which was pretty good I thought.
Through the afternoon I didn't get to use the phone much apart from a couple of short gaming sessions.
By 17:00 I was down to 80%. I got home from work and played around on the phone until my wife got home and we went out for a meal. The pub we were in had no signal, and I didn't really play around with the phone.
By the time I got home and went to bed, the phone was probably around 65% full.
So not a heavy day of use, but not far off a standard day for me - so not too bad as far as I'm concerned. Certainly about 30% better than my Touch Pro2 was!

I think we need to define a consistent way to measure battery life for Android.
Something like ACID test for web ... Quadrant for benchmark ...
I don't know, maybe we can agreed on something how to measure it. Or build an app to simulate phone usage which user should run it continuosly and then at the end got the result: Your battery life is rated 4 hours, 10 minutes straight using this test.
Probably not the best measurement, but it should give us a "number" to compare with other devices.
I can only suggest (I am not a developer), but I believe there are a lot of talented coders here in XDA which should be able to build this kind of "standard" app battery measurement pretty easily.

Somebody is recommending 3-4 full charges cycles for battery optimization. Do you think it will really help?
Battery is really deal breaking issue for me.

My friends also lasted over a day with pretty good use, there seems to be better results with the brightness on auto...from what I have picked up on the forum...maybe a test is need to see how much difference there is between full brightness on one battery charge and auto on the other.

Yupe, the battery benchmark should not be so complicated.
Start the app with 100% Battery life
Some options in the app (for features that might NOT be in an Android phone or might not be available at the time?):
[ ] Turn on Wifi
[ ] Turn on GPS
[ ] Turn on Bluetooth
Set the app to WAKE all the time, display turned ON all the time of the test
Set Keyguard to OFF (device will not be locked)
Set Brightness to AUTO
Set all speakers to SILENT
Set vibration to OFF
Then loop until battery down to 5%, perform the below tasks in sequence:
* Play movie for 15 minutes [speaker muted]
* Browse to website??? be careful not to overload the website
* Doing arithmatic
* Doing 3D
* Play MP3 [speaker muted of course]
As soon as the battery down to 5%, app stop and display result ...
And of course restore all the settings.
The app should use generic API that is supported by Android, not some hacky wacky if you know what I meant.
Please if someone can code this, that would be very nice! Standard XDA Battery Measurement app for Android!

the app should log the result too.. since some phone is dead by time 5% due to calibration..

@Dazultra2000: I would almost trade the proximity sensor problem for the battery life you're getting!
In any case, I'm gonna leave my phone charging till half an hour after the green light comes on, then I'm gonna try another day of normal usage. I'm going to turn wifi back on, as I usually would, and set screen brightness to auto.
With my Hero I used to go for runs using a GPS app to log the route, I'm not going to bother trying that with this phone until I'm sure I can survive a day.

I don't know when you wake up but that could be like 14 - 15 hours that you mentioned which possibly isn't all that bad (plus the extra 10% you had remaining). Personally I want to see what it's like when you unplug it at 8am, not at 5pm the night before since I can't see any good reason not to leave the phone charging over night anyway.
If you then manage to get about 10 to 12 hours or so then there probably isn't much issue. Granted you weren't using it while asleep so the battery shouldn't drain overly quick but I wouldn't want to use your test as an example of a days use.
Thanks for the info but. If I was you I'd just have a car charger too if you like to use GPS...I can't see any reason not to.

Yeah, I would normally charge overnight, but since I had given a charge through to 5pm I wanted to see how it lasted....see if I could get through 24 hours. I wake up at 5am, so that was around 12 hours, with only 5-6 of those hours being time when I would've actually been using the phone. This is also bearing in mind that I had started yesterday on a full charge and the phone was dead by 2pm.
The GPS thing in the car was only to do a quick test, literally 10 mins. I need to buy a new car charger with micro USB, but I just made a note that I had done this because I knew it would affect the battery.
Anyway, we'll see what today brings.

And yeah, for me personally a "days" charge really only needs to equate to about 12 - 14 hours. Thats probably the longest I'll go without having a charge anyway unless I'm camping or something in which case I'll likely fall back to a Nokia anyway.

Hi, just to add my experience with a complete different phone e.g. iPhone 3GS (developing apps on it, now switching to Android ):
Charge at night till 8 a.m. so 100% then usually in a day:
- Go to office, read/write emails, surf a bit on forums, blogs and so on
- Make call up to 30-60 minutes per day
- Play some games, test our application/games on it (so connect and receive some extra charge)
- Use WiFi at office
- Use Google Maps up to 15 minutes per day
- Back at home at 8 p.m.
- Use again emails and surf on web for 30 minutes
Around 11-12 p.m. it has less than 25% of battery, so 14-15 hours of usage drain battery up to finish it, not to mention that I'm forced to switch off push notification because they drain my battery in 5 hours!!!!
So just to say that, no one is perfect, and this devices today really do a lot of stuff, I think as Smigit suggest 12-14 hours are acceptable.
Have also tested/used iPhone 4, I don't seen any big improvements on that side.
Just my two cents...

My HTC legend is pretty poor really, but I can live with it. If DHD is worse I don't think I can pull the trigger.
There is a thread in th Legend section about 1800mh HTC batteries (from another phone) that fit the Legend. Maybe there will be an option to do something similar with DHD.
I would pay £50 more for a 1500mh battery - why did they put the smallest battery in the largest screen?

No the battery doesnt fit with the Desire HD, if you watch some pictures of your 1800mah battery and than go and take a closer look at the DHD's battery, you will recognize that the pins of the DHD-battery are on its side. the pins from the Incredible Battery are on the bottom.

In 2 hours 30 min heavy heavy heavy use, the battery dropped 20%.
Will do a full day test 2 morrow.

Battery - up 'n running for

...4 hours of heavy usage (wifi connection and 3g on but idle)
Mid to periodical usage could reach 24h.
6th day of usage....
i think this is mediocre for me. please report your battery performance to compare.
Any tips to improve this?

I can get around 8-10 hours with heavy usage... constant music, etc.. and about 2-3 days with light-medium usage.

Great!, and how am i supposed to explain this to the service?

I get about 12 to 15 hours of heavy usage via web, text, and email. If i watch video it's less but I am pretty happy with the battery thus far.

I can only get around 7 hours of use.
I have a problem that if i even dont use it, the battery still drain. I got it full charged and theb unplug it. About 8 hours later, it went down to 50%.
Is there any problem with my device?

same here. i don't know how you guys are getting so much better battery life. i can barely last a day and i don't use it all that much. maybe 2-3 hrs of surfing the web over wifi (not even 3g). i even used setcpu to underclock to 200Mhz when screen is off.

Maybe it has something to do with the very first charge.
When i unboxed the battery was fully charged so i drained it and had it charged for 8 hours. maybe it needed to be charged prior first usage.

Is that 12-15 hours with the screen on? Because that's much more than I'm seeing.
I've done a few measurements just to get an idea of the battery life. They are just extrapolations based on a few hours of runtime for each so they are by no means exact, but my impression is that they give a decent view of real values nonetheless. The battery percentage indicator does not seem to be terribly non-linear.
Video playing (SD quality) with full brightness: 5.5 hours
Video playing (SD quality) with lowest brightness: 9.5 hours
Idle at homescreen with full brightness: 6 hours
Idle at homescreen with half brightness: 9 hours
Idle at homescreen with lowest brightness: 12 hours
Music playing in headphones (screen off): 90 hours
Can't believe how lazy reviewers seem to be, I haven't read a single one where they have properly measured battery life for things like playing movies or reading an ebook. It's all just subjective feelings (which are obviously very unreliable).
All in all I am pretty pleased with the battery life (but I've just had it for a few days). I especially like the fact that it's basically a normal Android phone just with a giant screen and battery. This obviously means that standby and music playing times are going to be excellent.
Edit: Those of you who think you're seeing bad battery life, what does the battery use thingy in settings say? Or is that not a good tool?

I read a post somewhere where the OP was getting horrible battery life and found out that the Gallery app was draining the battery.
The OP in that thread said even exiting the app did not kill it, and it kept draining the battery.
Perhaps you can look into this more. I never use the gallery app so maybe why this is why i get decent battery life?

No not 12-15 hours with the screen always on.... I get 12-15 total... Screen on for usage, off for a while, back on to email and SMS ect...

Ah ok, then there's no discrepancy .

I got 10 hours from full to complete off. I was using it to watch streaming movies on 3g
for a couple of hours and then watch a movie off of the sd card and an episode of supernatural.
After that its just web and ebook reading. Its pretty good. Almost the same as my ipad.

I got a total of around 14 hrs plus with wifi and edge on, screen brightness at 20%, around 7 hrs of standby while i was asleep at night, with 4 hrs of heavy surfing, youtube etc. . . No calls though, only some sms and always on IM with nimbuzz logged in.
What i am seeing is with heavy usage i.e. Multiple apps running, wifi and edge on, i get anywhere between 5-7 hrs of battery life which i think is fair enough for a device this size which am constantly fiddling with.

it takes 4hours for me

I only get about 5-6 hrs tops under constant usage...browsing,fb,tweeting,watching video...but I buy the phone 2nd hand...I'm going to buy a new battery in the new future..let's see if the battery life over 8 hrs I would be happy : )

I've not used mine for that long, but the Battery Left app(which I found to be quite accurate on my N1) shows that for MY usage, I'll get about 25hrs.
I've got the auto dim turned off, and brightness at max. I mainly use mine for checking emails, txting, and a few games.
Nothing heavy.
I'd recomend the Battery Left app to you guys looking to find out your battery life. You DO have to "train" it though, which requires a 100%-0% run for you.

does.anyone know, do we need to cycle the battery to give it the best performance?
Example, charge up the unit, then drain it completely and recharge it again? Like in the old days.
mine hasnt gone down much. I have it unplugged at 6am and at 4pm i still have about 75-80% batt left.
This is with about approx. 2 hrs of talk and 30mins of data usage and voice calls paired to my BT headset. My screen brightness is set to 40%

I once got up to 20 hours of moderate usage. But with heavy usage I get about 12 hours or more. I lose about 7% when watching an episode using flash....kinda sucks but I watch a lot of anime online. But I use this as my main phone too. Its replaced my nexus completely. though it was nice with my nexus cuz I could swap batteries. This is how I condition my battery. I let it get to about 2-5% then I recharge it. I don't let it get to zero cuz I heard you can damage the cell. sometimes I charge it to about 20% then I unplug it and drain it to 5% then back up to full. I just kinda switch it up. At first I was getting horrible battery life but ever since I started conditioning it this way I get great results.

Battery Tips?

I just want to know what I can do to improve my battery on CM7 nightly 32. I'm at 21 hours now and almost dead. Yet I see people get stuff like 2 days and 10 hours... I have tasker and the only profile I have is when the screen goes off it turns mobile data off (not sure If it works so I also use apndroid). I NEVER use wifi, bluetooth, or high brightness. I do however have gps on so in case I lose my phone is lost or stolen I can track it. So there's no way I'm disabling that. I have tried juice defender but figured since it can't effectively disable data for 2.3.3 I saw no point in the app. Any tips?

21 hours on moderate use is great battery life. 12 hours is usually the measuring stick for smartphones, less is bad, greater is good.
Don't know who you saw getting two days plus, but they are either not touching their phone or have an extended battery.

Best way to extend battery life is to get an extended or high capacity battery. I just got the Mugen Power pack, not the chunky one, and im in the process of breaking it in.
On my stock battery i was getting about 17hrs of moderate use. Almost no talk but alot of texting, engadget and youtube mostly on wifi with gps always on. That might give you an idea, plus, there are countless battery related threads on here.
Will post back in afew days after my Mugen has cycled afew times.

I have 4 stock replacement batterys and never plug my phone in to the charger. When my phone is at about 5% i just take one out and pop the next one in and charge them in the wall... I know its not the answer you want but I never have a problem with battery life lol

I would agree that 21 hours is great battery life on this phone. I can get a week of battery life on my phone if I put it in airplane mode and stick it in my desk drawer =P
Not sure how big of an impact the tasker profile has. Unless your screen is off for long periods of time I would think that it might harm the battery life because every time you touch the device, it has to 'search' and connect to the tower again.
You can try running the phone at the stock CPU speed to see if that has an improvement on your battery life. I currently run the same 1017/245 as you with a screen off profile set at 245/245.
For me, as long as I can make it through a day's use, the battery life is fine. With moderate use I can go about 15-18 hours and heavy use I'm at around 12. The car charger in those cases is a life saver.
Bottom line is, battery life really depends on your usage habits. Those people getting days out of their phones likely aren't using them very much...

well i have setcpu set at 806 max and 245 min. screen off is at 245/245 and on powersave governor. other then that its on ondemand. i also have profile set to reduce the CPU based on battery. I have it set to <101% its at 806/245 , <41% its at 768/245 and less then 25 is 368/245. i realize that these are low speed but i hardly ever get lag and i use it for everything, music, video, youtube, internet, twitter, facebook, xda , and a here and there gmail. i guess if im getting exceptional battery life... anyone want some tips?

I find the more variation I put into profiles on setcpu, the worse my battery life gets. Theory - it is constantly watching and making changes based on your CPU needs and battery. So I have mine set to 1113-1113 performance, 245-245 powersave screen off, 245-245 powersave 45degrees+ and for your mobile data, try just having a widget to turn it on and off as you need it. You probably don't need it on everytime you turn on your screen do you?

The apndroid widget eventually gets out of sync with on/off with the data... I think its gingerbread. Most apps can't effectively turn the radio off. I hope they make one soon!

I find the stock battery to be not that great. I bought the Chichi batteries way back in October (when they were still considered cheap) and theyve been great. I havent really done any new tests since October, but back then (before I had a data plan) I was getting atleast a day and more (from 100% to dead) with moderate usage.
I'd look for a high capacity battery, though they seem to be expensive now.

The power bar widget that comes with cm7 works perfect for me. Turns onoff Wi-Fi/apn/GPS/brightness/airplanemode

I just tested out my battery the other day. I got a day and 13 hours and I was at 19 percent. Wifi is a big battery killer, and brightness is too.

Ill post a battery success story...sounds nerdy lol. And i live at my own home with my own family lol.
My mothers g2 is rooted and running cm7 nightly 29 or 30, I installed it last week. I asked her today for the first time how the battery was after a week. She is using an aftermarket 1800mah battery, wifi only at home, she was almost at 32 hours and had 39% battery left!!!!
Not sure of all settings but i put it on 1113mhz, on demand with min 368, autobacklight, wifi only at home, bluetooth is always connected and on. Talk is about 70% of her usage overall. 4 gmail accounts. I did not install set cpu at all. I even stopped it on my phone because it didnt help me one bit.
Not too shabby. I was at 57% with some texting but a lot of gps usage for latitude and wifi always on even when not at home.

here is what i get out of a day (battery consumption for specific tasks are mentioned in percentages measured using juiceplotter)
wifi on constantly
display set to 24% brightness
background sync enabled (google, weather 6hrs, whatsapp and facebook once a day)
45 min video (rockplayer no h/w decoding) 15%
1 hr browsing+chat 15%
30 min calls 6%
20 min music+chat 5%
20 min general usage 5%
1 hr flash streaming 15%
24 hrs standby 24% (@ 1% for every hr of standby)
15% battery remaining after 24 hrs i.e. low battery warning.
i disabled the use wireless network option under locations and always on mobile data
and get much better battery life, also i use wifi constantly when available (which is 90% of the time), it is much better for battery life than using 3g or gprs/edge.
pretty amazing battery life IMO i am very happy.

So i have cycled my Mugen 1800mA battery acouple times. on average, i'm able to get about 27hrs of heavy use. Here are some settings as a baseline:
Always on Data
Wifi always on
Auto brightness
1GHz clock speed
massive amounts of text use
massive amounts of screen on time
will report back in afew days time after some more cycles.

Battery Rubbish?

hey there
basically, last night i:
1)wiped battery stats
2)discharged till phone shuts off
3)turned phone on again so it turns off again
4)went to sleep with it charging
5)woke up 9 hours later, on 100%
so if its fully charged, battery ETA is only giving it 7 hours and 44 minutes estimated time, WITHOUT WIFI, GPS OR MOBILE DATA, AND 25% BRIGHTNESS USING 'BRIGHTNESS PROFILES' APP. isnt this like.... rubbish? this is my setup

i dont want to buy one of those bulky batteries, as it wont fit in my school blazer. the question is, how do i extend my battery?

Sounds like a duff battery. I get about 20 hours with everything on on stock rom.

I'm wondering the same thing... the Desire Z only comes with a 1300mAh battery... My previous phone had a more powerfull battery (2100mAh) and that was an older model WM6 smartphone (which was rubbish on power savings) and it would outlast the desire Z... Even after two years of extensive use, the old phone's battery is better then this phones brand new battery
I've been unable to find any official HTC batteries for the Desire Z which pack more juice...

At the OP. What is your signal strength like? Mine is rubbish at work as I work in a converted barn and that makes a big difference to the battery life.

at home i ALWAYS have 3/4 bars out of 4
btw i am also using JuiceDefender, if that would make a difference :L...

since the OP, ive been on facebook for about 30-40 mins, already 82% battery.....

Have a look through the accessories section. Lots of threads about replacement batteries.

I am in the process of 'breaking in' a new 1800 MuganPower battery. Fits perfectly with no mods needed.
It should take a few more charges etc to settle down, so things should theoretically improve.
I pulled the plug off charge 6.5 hours ago.
I have it set to use wifi when at home, and 3g for the phone connection (I have a 3G femtocell at home).
When I leave my home area, it switches off 3g and wifi and drops to 2g.
I have made a couple of 2 minute calls, checked my emails and twitter, and was out of the house for say 1.5 hours earlier.
I have had a couple of texts to which i replied.
I am on 95% charge now, and pretty pleased with that.

I've got the same mugen battery, and get through a full day easily no matter what I do. Screen full bright, wifi always on, some internet, games, gps.... etc. Only 7 hours of battery to me sounds terrible.

since my last post, i havent touched the phone at all, and its got 66% charge -__- i seriously need a better battery, may buy the mugen, would you say they are worth it?

Are you using the Google News and Weather widget? I still don't know why, but it was murdering my battery. Soon as I removed the widget, battery life shot back up.

nope, no widgets except the built in analogue clock.
the battery usage is used by mobile standby, wifi, display etc. no apps....

What percentage per section(standby, display) is being used?

im surprised its been 10h 15m and im still on 58%
the battery seems okay when not touching the phone, as i have only checked facebook for 2 minutes, and sent around 10 texts (been playing football)
looks like imma turn off wifi when not using it from now!

When I first got my Desire Z when it first came out I was pretty disappointed in the battery life. I tried programs like juice defender and minimized every possible battery sucking option I could find. I could maybe get 12 hours of use out of it so I bought a 1800mAh MuganPower battery which gave me maybe 15 hours instead. Pretty poor I thought but what more could I do?
A couple of months ago I finally did a factory reset after encountering a lot of frustrating little bugs, some of which had been around since the phone was new. Since then not only has my phone worked a lot better and faster, but battery life is MUCH improved. My phone now consistently lasts 24 - 30 hours with the same usage or more than I was using it before. So obviously buggy software can make a huge impact on battery life and it's not something you are going to be able to easily discern as to what program(s) are causing the problem.

Okay, played a bit of speedx 3D, heavy texting and facebook/gochat, still on 31%. Battery seems ok, still going to invest in a better one though, as using the phone for games or internet heavily drains the battery, whereas standby seems to be quite good, but need to turn off wifi. I will see how it fairs tomorrow, and post a picture.

28% for wifi seems really high. I always have wifi on and it only takes up 6%.

[DISCUSS] Battery Life.

Most threads about battery are quite outdated, so I decided to start a new one.
And so recently my battery is starting to get less muscular.. My Xperia Play is 4 and a half months old, and one hour of consistent 3G usage can drop the battery down from 65% to 24%. I'm not very sure whether that is the norm, but if it is, that's bad battery life, in my opinion.
The Android 'Battery Use' page shows that most of my battery is drained from Cell Standby and System Idle (30%).
My wireless and GPS is always off. Am on 2.3.4 rooted.
Also, Gameboid consumes battery like a beast (even more than 3G), but I guess that's due to the high processing power required for emulation..
Is there any way I can improve the battery life?

Personally I found battery life to be terrible on 2.3.4 so I downgraded to R800i_4.0.A.2.368_World. I'm running 122M-1.5Ghz with scary and BFQ, on top of that I undervolted every frequency as much as I could using incredicontrol (Id give you the values but they vary by device). I always leave wifi, bluetooth, gps and data off when not using them, turned off automatic clock updates (there was a battery draining bug with this a while ago) and I run at 10% brightness with autobrightness off. With this set up I lose maybe 3-5% per night, so for around 6-8hrs in standby while I sleep. Ive got similar results on both cyanogen and stock. That being said I don't have a data plan so I do save a lot by not having data on, but a 40% drop in an hour isn't normal - Ive played an N64 emu which runs the processor full speed for that long and only experienced a 15-20% drop.

imho, the best battery life i've experienced is on 2.3.4.. when i'm on 2.3.3 i always lost 30-40% overnight (wifi, bluetooth, 3g, etc are turned off) stock rom, locked BL..

According to some folks, if you're charging your phone and let it stay plugged in for a while after it hits 100% that screws with the battery life.

On 2.3.4 rooted with all the facebook, timescape and other bloat removed my battery is pretty good. Wifi is on 247 and it reverts to hspda when out. Data syncs hourly, and i have contacts, hotmail and gmail syncing.
The other day i was sitting at 57% after 1 day 3 hours, and that included a half hour go on fpse, might have been more.

Battery life seems good to me. I get 1 day usage then charge over night. I do use my phone quite a lot for this (Tapatalk), Phandroid app, Engadget app, Joystiq app and browser. Wifi and GPS is always on.
At a guess I'm using the phone for about 1 hour a time, about 7 times a day... So like 7 hours web use, phone calls and texts, syncing is set to every hour with FiX on.
When I was on 2.3.3 I'd be lucky to get 10 hours out of the battery but 2.3.4 is awesome.

Actually I get similar idle battery drain rates as you, but personally I'm not very concerned with battery drain as long as it's not so much. I'm more troubled with battery life on consistent usage, which I feel the Xperia Play (or at least mine) sucks at.
When I play Gameboid, I get the same fast battery drop too - 40-50% in one hour.

Yep, I read that from a lot of places too. I admit I used to do that (and have since stopped doing that), but sometimes I can't help it if I forgot to charge at night before I sleep (and have to charge overnight to ensure I have battery the next day).

I envy your battery life One thing, if you remove Facebook, will your Facebook contacts picture sync go away too?
And did you remove the bloat stuff by deleting them from /system/app?

Sigh, I could never get such good battery life..

All the more reason to undervolt, in standby undervolting doesn't have much of an effect on the phone since the processor is either in deep sleep or running at its lowest speed. Also using a governer like scary or smartass helps keep your device running at a lower frequency when possible. Like I said 2.3.4 was terrible for me, 10% drain overnight or more, but apparently YMMV with this. That being said 40-50% drain in an hour is crazy no matter what you're doing on the phone, like I said running N64oid for an hour drops me 15-20% keeping in mind this is at 1.5GHz with sound and the backlight constantly on. If all else fails you can always wipe everything and start fresh, carrying over the same settings while jumping around firmware can lead to some undesirable results. Anyway good luck and keep us posted

The facebook sync option doesn't appear on my anymore, although it used to. To clean it up all i did was :
Purchase Titanium Bakup
Freeze the things I wanted to remove and test rebooting, only freezing a few more each time
Backed up every app
Slowly uninstalled each one with a reboot every couple of apps
Enjoyed my faster phone with better battery life
I use the gmail sync and life.contacts for contact pics

I get amazing battery life on 2.3.4.
In stand-by I lose 1% every 3'rd hours. It's very good in use too. Yesterday I had my day with heaviest use so far and texted like crazy the whole day and a lot of phone calls. Some surfing, gaming and updating of apps between that. Basically the phone was frequently used the whole day with short periods of stand-by in between. At night when I went to bed the battery was at 40%.
Earlier this week I used it minimally for 2 days. The battery dropped 10% for each of those days. But that was very minimal use.
So in short. I have not experiences better battery life on any other Android phone. What takes the most power is emulating. It can suck up like 20% in an hour depending on which emulator I use.

I got my Play at the beginning of the week and with quite intensive use, without WiFi or 3g, I scraped an 8am to 6pmish day on the battery. Admittedly with a fair bit of gaming.
However, that was only waiting for my 2600mAh battery to arrive and now I'm using it, I would recommend it for the bulk. You don't notice it after half an hour or so and I have no issues with gaming on the go whereas I always thought it may die on the stock.

mine drops 4 - 5% /hour..... much faster than b4.... dn no w is goin on w/ ma PLAY.....

I found that since updating to 2.3.4 my battery drains quicker. Usually charge overnight and battery would be around 15% bedtime. (7am - 11pm approximately)
Now I'm finding that by 6pm I'm having to charge it and that's without gaming

Three times in my first week and a half of ownership I awoke to find it completely dead despite fully charging it or nearly fully charging it before bed. I usually sleep with my phone next to my head so that I can ensure that the alarm will wake me up. That and the lack of a timer function really irk me about this phone. I really hate having to create and save an alarm when I know I only have 45 minutes or 2 hours to sleep (I work a grave shift and have inconsistent sleep schedules during the day). It adds insult to injury when something changes that lets me get another 5, 10, 20 minutes or so and I can't easily add it. On top of that, I have to go back and delete all the alarms I made throughout the day!

Thats crap. Infact you should leave your phone plugged in a good 30/45 mins after it says fully charged if you want a full charge

Not at true max but at what the battery controller considers max. True maximum will drastically decrease the total cycles just like true minimum only to gain longer cycles in the short-term. When you store a battery it's best to stop at 75-80% because it will lose stored energy slower and not spend nearly as much time near 100%, which is still a trade-off between long cycles and more cycles.

To be honest, I am somewhat tempted... However the question is, will it explode in my pocket and result in me losing half my leg? It's quite a big risk to take! There also might be a voltage difference, however I cannot see anything on that.
Im currently on 1.6Ghz, undervolted. And I just played Order and Chaos for 35 minutes and went from 86% to 63% - I've had bad luck in the past regarding phone batteries, I remember replacing my G1 battery around 7 times, but at these rates my Play would be dead after around 3 hours or less of gaming.

how do you update to 2.3.4 it wont show me =[ please someone answer me :/

You have to expect that with any phone playing an online game. Wifi/screen/GPU/CPU are going at full wack at the same time. What dya expect?
