Hey great and powerful Vibrant devs, I was messing around with the old Samsung FUS downloader and stumbled across a possibility...if you a certain address in your browser bar you get a nice download prompt flash on your screen. Its 185MB and a .enc file, soo.... enter this in your browsers: http://fus.samsungmobile.com/Phone_...T959TMKJL9_T959UVJL9_T959UVJL9_UV_TMB.zip.enc
Dig away, because I'd love to make possibly a contribution to the scene!

Vibrant 4G
Are we sure that the new firmware is not for the Vibrant Plus 4G that we are getting a peak at now?
http://www.tmonews.com/2011/01/samsung-vibrant-plus-will-offer-21-mbps-4g-speeds/
To those who tried it. Is it JL5?
Yeah has anyone actually looked deep into this build and see if things are different. Its coming from the official site or no?
To anyone that can decrypt this, please feel free. I tried, but to no avail. If it has been cracked, or does turn out to be JL5...can you please upload so the rest of us can play too. Thanks in advance guys and gals!

Hey chainfire, krylon360, rhcp0112345 or eugene373 can any of you look at this to check if it dont have anything different at all. I know you (chainfire) said that its JL5 but is there any system changes in the build or did you get to check it out?

Well, I guess now we know why Tmo hasn't given us 2.2 yet. They are using it as a selling point for this new Vibrant. Pretty ****ty.
JL9 IS JL5. Nothing has changed.
It IS NOT the Vib+ Rom.
People need to understand, T959 is the indicator for the Vibrant. The Vibrant+ will have a different indicator.

Was it necessary to be ugly?
I apologize for not explaining myself thoroughly.
No I was referring more to getting a dump off the rodgers captivate so we can get that firmware that only Rodgers releases and hope that hsupa is enabled. Because regardless of roms this captivate has been an awesome phone but what ATT did to this is unjustified and borderline illegal. Those @ssholes farked this phone up real good and it going to be awesome to get this thing free and 100% up and running.
Back to the them of this topic...
Vanilla rom would be nice as long as there is no att restrictions and this phone is 100% free .

Yes this is a 100% android stock 2.1 aosp rom, about the rodgers dump, it would be nice to have a look at it, but since there hasn't been any dump as of yet, were gonna have to wait.

This looks sooooo badass.
I just got the stock messaging application and the stock music player on my Captivate, now I see this. If they had data working I would be flashing it right now, but I rely heavily on data so I'll wait for the bugs to be worked out.
I really just hate TouchWiz and can't wait for a real vanilla experience.
Looks sexy, how hard would it be to fix the radio for us to use it? Also has anyone benched this beast?

Dude he didn't wanna read through the massive amount of posts in this thread (10) or the OP. I don't blame him! (it was hard keeping a strait face while typing that lol)
Now I am definitely interested in this because there is no point in running Touchwiz since it does seem to be pretty buggy and eventhough it is very colorful, I am using the latest launcher pro and prefer it but if I can get vanilla 2.1 running on my Captivate and be running data properly, then I will flash my phone with this.
Cheers,
Charlie

What advantage does a Vanilla Rom, have over stock w/Home Screen Replacement?
A fine fellow named supercurio over on the I9000 boards has found a way to do a FULL FILE SYSTEM REPLACEMENT. It just started beta testing and the results are VERY positive. He's indicated that he is interested in porting it to the other variants, so I wanted to make everyone aware.
This whole thing started in a bounty thread to fix the I/O issues on the SGS, so I was hoping maybe the Captivate community could go over there and throw some cash into the pot to sweeten the deal a bit and show our support for what he's doing- this will also hopefully increase the likelihood of a port =P

Of course if you haven't already, and are using one of the current lagfixes you might consider throwing a few bucks Tayutama and RyanZAs way as they've been absolutely instrumental in the process of getting this lag fix movement off the ground in the first place!

And lastly, a little something to get your mouths watering:

This is a huge step in the right direction. In for this !
I'll be following this, as of course, ryan, tayutama zilch and I have been just waiting for a way to replace the damned rfs.
Wow that looks good, can't wait to help test out the beta. I'll be donating as it progresses along. Any word on when the beta will release?
Well right now the I9000 crowd is testing, he had a really limited beta release yesterday. I told him I've got a spare captivate for a couple days if he wants to run any bizarre experiments without fear of bricking, hopefully he'll take me up on it

I hope so, i'm running the I-9k JM1 rom on my captivate right now without a lag fix just cause and it works great! can't imagine the difference this will make.
This sounds like the lag fix I've been waiting for. Once it is out of private beta, and compiled for the Captivate, we need it added to SRE. Can someone get Samsung to add this to stock FroYo and ditch RFS for good.

[SOURCE] Supercurio's EXT4-based "Voodoo"Lag Fix
Picked this from the vibrant forums
Hey everyone,
Seems Supercurio has finally got a beta of his true fix for the lag on Samsung Galaxy S phones. The github is below.
DO NOT FLASH ON A CAPTIVATE until there is a Captivate version. This is posted to developers can take a look at the source code and start implementing it for the captivate.
http://github.com/voodoo-project/lagfix
Hopefully unhelpful or someone else can integrate this fix into his OC\Stock kernels, and we can enjoy our phones without the typical "galaxy s" lag/stuttering.
HUGE thanks to supercurio for all his hard work putting this together
EDIT: lol, guess he hasnt posted the source yet. the ramdisk is available in the download section.
Enjoy! Happy coding!
DO NOT flash this to your captivate. This is based on an I9000 kernel, so all the I9000 problems come with it. Wait for one of our devs to convert it over to stock Captivate.
It does however work using I9000 firmwares- I9000 kernel glitches still apply =P

Nope, just a patched kernel and a script should do it. This is the holy grail of lagfixes, I believe.

I am planning to flash this to my JM7 ROM once i get home lets see how that goes.
I'm running it from an I9000 ROM atm, but you HAVE to keep the I9000 kernel for it to function, you can't switch back to the Captivate one, and seeing as how there's no revert for this ATM this might not be for everyone
Also Rom Manager doesn't work with this =P

Calls and data work just fine. I'm using the I9000 kernel and a JG8 modem firmware (so I get 850 and 1900 mhz bands), it should still work with the stock captivate modem files too.
Basically you have to deal with reflashing a kernel whenever you want to run an update.zip and autorotate is boned

anilkuj, I'd make the "DO NOT FLASH ON CAPTIVATE" text bold, huge, and red just so people will for sure see it. Otherwise you KNOW people are going to do it.

First of all, I have a Vibrant not an I9000.
As part of the Vibrant Ragnarok Project, I deodex everyone of your 2.2.1 leaks within minutes. I use them for what I need. But, if there is a market for stock deodexed 2.2.1 Roms over here then I can start posting them. Is there?
Also, I theme these and mod these roms, take a look over in the Vibrant development forum and let me know if you would be interested in seeing the same over here. Just look for the Einherjar Dev Team releases.

Perhaps, but first we must find out if the bootloader is locked down...
Give it some time it looks buggy as hell
It's not like we have to do too terribly much to get this working. All the captivate specific stuff has been the same code changes through all the updates as far as I am aware. I'm completely psyched for this to happen though! I'm not a big fan of Cyanogen's UI and lack of google apps, so this is going to be awesome!
The i9000 folks say the bootloader is not locked, still has download mode working, so it's possible to go back. Not advocating anyone flash this, just reporting.
They also said Samsung stripped out the Gingerbread visual tweaks (like that screen off animation), which sucks. They also currently don't have root, so market fingerprint is not editable, and TiBu won't work.
This seems like a very early alpha. None of GB stuff (animations etc) are in and there are still a few issues.
This is step in the right direction, but lets hope we have another leak later on.
Hmm n here I been running CM 7. Its interesting how fast Samsung went to 2.3, can't wait to see what the devs do with this

well even if not at least we know now that Samsung wasn't lying about March for the euro/Asian markets.
Nice, hopefully we will be able to use this to our advantage?
Also, couldn't we flash this since we now have the kernel that allow us to flash i900 ROMS? If we could just flash those files, then flash the kernel through Odin somehow it might work. Idk though, I'm no dev.

GINGERBREAD leaked
damb, this is so great, im thinking maybe tonight we might have a port for the vibrant, and i wonder if eugene and krylon know about this considering, it just today got leaked, a few hours ago.............. anyways, everyone post on this, lets get the hype going, we want this baby ported ASAP.. always thanks so much eugene and krylon, my brothers of galaxy android
So far from what i've read over there...
Looks like quadrant scores are not improved over 2.2 which is what i'm sure most people are hoping for. It also appears that the screen off animation is not present in the rom. It's also using Touchwiz 3.0 and not 4. Market is broken, and gingerbread keyboard also not included. Looks like an early beta build from what i've read.
**edit**
market is working, they have root access, and they are in the process of deodexing.
So far from what i've read over there...

The kernel that allows us to flash i9000 ROMs is only 2.2 and 2.2.1 compatible. I'm pretty sure someone would have to build a new kernel to let us flash that or port the ROM over.
The crowds are getting restless over there. They're in an uproar about "this is missing" and "that is missing". One of the complaints is about the gingerbread wallpaper being missing. But these guys forget that our 2.1 devices didn't come with stock 2.1 walls. They instead came with whatever wallpapers samsung gave us. Overall it's starting to sound more complete than the first froyo leaks that we used to have which is reassuring. Some of the guys say that the leak is stable and everything is working on their devices. One of the nice improvements they're reporting is functioning hardware acceleration.
No TV-off?! NOooOoO!

Funny to see their behavior over it when we are just sinking our teeth into 2.2.1. Maybe its a good thing though.. I myself am so pleased with the performance boost of 2.2.1 that I'm in no rush to flash again but of course I'm in the minority on that.

Na I'm with you on that, running Bionix 1.3 and it really is just as fast as CM7 was for. Really the only thing that gingerbread had over this ROM is that the applications list loaded faster. Plus on this I have themes
