Guide to get the trackball to blink when receiving a message - Hero, G2 Touch General

After trying to get the trackball to blink with "FroydVillian 1.7.2" and Elelinux Special Edition 2.2.1.
I restored my Hero with my backed up Cyanogen ROM and tryed some diffenrent things. Then I got the trackball to blink, using "SMS Popup" .
I restored my Hero again and made this guide for you. It was actually easier than I thought.
Step 1:
Install "SMS Popup" from the Market (If you havn't done this yet).
Step 2:
Open "SMS Popup" and go to: "Notifications" --> "Default Notifications".
(Remember to disable all ofther notifications from other apps)
Step 3:
Under "LED Configuration" check "Blink LED" (if not already selected).
Choose "LED Color" and "Custom".
Step 4:
Now scroll all three bars (Red, Green and Blue) to 255 and push "OK".
Step 5:
Leave "SMS Popup" and wait for a SMS.
Be aware that the screen MUST turn off (black screen) before the trackball will begin to blink.
I don't know if the developer "Adam K" knows this, so I have sent him an e-mail
PS.: If the trackball is not blinking you might need to flash the light notification fix from here: http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=827593. (I have not done that).
Good luck.
Best regards
Kenneth

It actually works! thanks man, this is much easier than downloading Trackball Alert, uploading the frameworks, patching them bla bla. So thanks again!

Hi djdavis
I'm glad to hear it worked for you too

Mine does this by default, is that unusual?

Yes the Hero does it, when you got it from HTC, but if you have rooted it and running Cyanogen 6.1 Final, it doesn't use the trackball for message notifications.
What ROM are you running?

Mogul flashing light?

My previous phone (T-Mobile Wing) would flash different colored lights when something happened. Specifically, when a text message or voice mail came in, the flashing green light would flash faster and in orange. From what I can tell, my Sprint Mogul does not do this. Is there any setting I can change so it does do this?
i hope it is possible because that would be awesome to have all or at least more than one light flash when you get a call
the light flashes orange when you've missed a call or a message

Not mine :\
Not with SMS at least.
Sounds & Notifications
Start -> Settings ->Sounds & Notifications
Scroll down to: Messaging: New Text Message
Is "Flash light for "No Limit" selected?
If not, change it to that. The orange light should flash on and off when you get a new text.
Also, if you haven't yet, upgrade to DCD 3.2.0 and the newest Radio for the best results. If you're trying to kill the flashing green light, search for LED Killer.
Even better is nueLed

Trying to Customise LEDs

Hi,
I have an orange spv m3100 unlocked to virgin (t-mobile). I was under the impression that the service led (constant, flashing, green) could be customised somehow to reflect events like new voicemail, missed call, new text message etc. Start / Settings / Sounds and Notifications / Notifications seems to back up this theory but all I ever get is a constantly flashing green light all the time other than when charging. Then, the light is solid amber.
I've witnessed an unlocked m700 do what I'd like, which is to change the colour of the led under the circumstances outlined above. I've tried nueLED without success and was wondering if there is a simple way to achieve what I'd like. Obviously a free solution would be preferable, but I'd consider paying as this is an important feature for me.
Thanks.
I honestly don't know if its possible, could be a registry edit or then again it may be something you can't play around with... NueLED lets you change the LEDs colour that flashes for different functions but I don't believe it lets you change the timing...
Sorry...
In which case I wonder why the phone gives me the option to "flash light" when e.g. I get a voice mail or a text. Surely this refers to changing the properties of the LED ?
not sure
I might be missing what your asking, but I have the official wm6 att rom on my phone and it switches to yellow flashing when I have a text/missed call etc.....
which rom are you using?
I'm running CRC's rom but it would be a pretty standard function I would think.
Apologies if I'm telling you how to suck eggs, but are you setting the events up?
On mine, I set the events I want to see the flashing light for in
Settings - Sounds & Notifications - Notifications
Then I need to choose the event (EG: Phone: Missed Call) and choose the various settings.
IIRC none of them had the setting for 'Flash light for' set to on when I first flashed the ROM.

I'm using this one

I'm kind of interested in giving WM6 a go - could you provide a link ?

No apology necessary, I'm a super noob at all this smartphone malarkey.
But...I've set this up for all the notifications I require and still no joy.
Am currently trialling a combination of led killer and phonealarm apps to solve this. Appears to work reasonably well, but sledgehammers and nuts spring to mind.
I think.... is not posible
Is too much settings for the led! hahahaha but it would be interesant to shut off the hang on and call led buttons off cause it makes me sense it tooks much battery... dont you think so...?

Disable HTC Manila notification

Is there a way to do this? I'm running NRGZs latest Titanium flavored ROM. However each time I get a new email or text message, I get a pop-up window informing me that there's something I need to review.
The whole point of installing the Titanium build was so that I didn't have to deal with any of the HTC menus ... guess I was wrong
Is there an app that can help me accomplish what I want?
ps: I see 2 buttons in the "utilities" menu: "Notification Manager On" and "Notification Manager Off", these however do not seem to help me achieive what I want.
I want my meeting reminders to be indicated via the default WinMo style not via the htc notification
i get a Notification after is send a message so annoying
No problem - Open Task Manager, go to Services (top right drop down menu), and disable "HTC Notification manager", then soft reset.

Unfortunately that did not work. While I was able to disable the service, when I turned on "notification on the screen" option and performed a test, the notification window was not native WM6.5 but rather 'manila-like'.
Could it be that this was just cooked into the ROM and there's nothing I can do about it?

Notification LED Timeout

Hello guys,
I am trying to help a friend set up his Wildfire as he is new to android.
His biggest problem is the missed call / sms notification led. When he has a missed call, or a new sms the led notification lights up for five minutes and then turns off. Is it possible to leave the alert led on until he interacts with it?
The phone is brand new and still running the stock rom
Any help would be apreciated.

Just search for 'LED Me Know' on this Forum / GetJar. It should help.
I have used it personally, however, in the latest edition, theres a bug, that even after you have interacted with your phone, it keeps the notification LED on randomly. However, previously, I used v1.06, and, it worked flawlessly.

Thanks very much for responding,
I have tried both missed call and led me know, but they both time out after 5 minutes.
Am i missing something?
That's weird. Because I distinctly remember in my case, when I used it, the LED would keep blinking for hours at one go, till I checked the notification.
Did you try enabling 'Compatibility Mode' in the App Settings?

Hey 3xeno,
Thanks for responding.
Compatibility mode seems to be greyed out in my phone and i cannot select it.
Should the phone be rooted?
Thanks

No, it doesnt require root. One more thing comes to my mind, did you disable the stock ROM's option to flash the Notification LED?
Menu > Settings > Display > Notification LED
And GMail LED Notifications from GMail > Settings > More Settings
If, even after doing this, you cannot enable compatibility mode, refer the original thread of the app here and contact the developer, as he says:

Good Luck

test message settings
" "
mms
" "
