My previous phone (T-Mobile Wing) would flash different colored lights when something happened. Specifically, when a text message or voice mail came in, the flashing green light would flash faster and in orange. From what I can tell, my Sprint Mogul does not do this. Is there any setting I can change so it does do this?
i hope it is possible because that would be awesome to have all or at least more than one light flash when you get a call

Not mine :\
Not with SMS at least.
Sounds & Notifications
Start -> Settings ->Sounds & Notifications
Scroll down to: Messaging: New Text Message
Is "Flash light for "No Limit" selected?
If not, change it to that. The orange light should flash on and off when you get a new text.
Also, if you haven't yet, upgrade to DCD 3.2.0 and the newest Radio for the best results. If you're trying to kill the flashing green light, search for LED Killer.
Even better is nueLed

After updating the XDA II ROM to 1.60.00WWE, I noticed a problem not present in the old ROM. Sometimes, the red blinking notification light (on the upper right corner) won't go away even after I have already dismissed the message or reminder that triggered the notification. This usually happens when the XDA II displays a reminder while it is locked (password-protected). This also usually happens when I quickly dismiss an SMS notification. Does anyone know what is causing this problem? Is there any work-around (other than disabling the notification light)?
I had noticed this - annoying isn't it? I have not found a workaround yet, and I am working on finding out the exact sequence of events...
I think that what happens is that the XDA triggers notifications in this order:
display
vibrate
sound
flash
If you dismiss the notification before the flash is started - possible because you have a long .wav as sound, the 'turn off' notification is submitted before the flash is activated. This, obviously, causes the flash to occur with no easy mean to turn it off.
We need a desktop plug-in that can turn the flash off as needed.
Sending an SMS and dismissing the sent notification bubble turns off the flash for me.
Regards
Michael
Hi,
One workaround that I have found is to go the Start -> Settings -> Sound & Notifications -> Notifications. Then close the screen and this would dismiss the blinking notification light.

That's also what I do. But I hope we can have a real bug fix soon.
Hi,
I have an orange spv m3100 unlocked to virgin (t-mobile). I was under the impression that the service led (constant, flashing, green) could be customised somehow to reflect events like new voicemail, missed call, new text message etc. Start / Settings / Sounds and Notifications / Notifications seems to back up this theory but all I ever get is a constantly flashing green light all the time other than when charging. Then, the light is solid amber.
I've witnessed an unlocked m700 do what I'd like, which is to change the colour of the led under the circumstances outlined above. I've tried nueLED without success and was wondering if there is a simple way to achieve what I'd like. Obviously a free solution would be preferable, but I'd consider paying as this is an important feature for me.
Thanks.
I honestly don't know if its possible, could be a registry edit or then again it may be something you can't play around with... NueLED lets you change the LEDs colour that flashes for different functions but I don't believe it lets you change the timing...
Sorry...
In which case I wonder why the phone gives me the option to "flash light" when e.g. I get a voice mail or a text. Surely this refers to changing the properties of the LED ?
not sure
I might be missing what your asking, but I have the official wm6 att rom on my phone and it switches to yellow flashing when I have a text/missed call etc.....
which rom are you using?
I'm running CRC's rom but it would be a pretty standard function I would think.
Apologies if I'm telling you how to suck eggs, but are you setting the events up?
On mine, I set the events I want to see the flashing light for in
Settings - Sounds & Notifications - Notifications
Then I need to choose the event (EG: Phone: Missed Call) and choose the various settings.
IIRC none of them had the setting for 'Flash light for' set to on when I first flashed the ROM.

No apology necessary, I'm a super noob at all this smartphone malarkey.
But...I've set this up for all the notifications I require and still no joy.
Am currently trialling a combination of led killer and phonealarm apps to solve this. Appears to work reasonably well, but sledgehammers and nuts spring to mind.
I think.... is not posible
Is too much settings for the led! hahahaha but it would be interesant to shut off the hang on and call led buttons off cause it makes me sense it tooks much battery... dont you think so...?
Hey fellow Heroes (that's what Hero owners are called, right? )
Does your screen flash for notifications?
In the Sound & Display settings, there's a setting called "Notification flash", subtext "Flash screen for notifications" and you can set for the screen to flash for calls, messages etc.
Now I have all the boxes ticked, but when I get a text messages or email, the screen doesn't flash, only the trackball (for text msgs) or trackball and LED (for emails).
Is it just me or do other people experience this too? Would be nice to see the screen flash and get a quick little text message preview or something.
Thanks for any replies!
No screen flash here either - stock Orange Hero.
wheel
Only the wheel flashes IMHO
So what's that option in settings for then? Nothing? Is this a bug or am I misunderstanding what the option is meant to do?
I have my wheel flashing as soon as some new email or notification arrives. Clearing notifications clears the warning.
Is the screen not a different beast entirely from the trackball / wheel / round spinny thing ?
If the option says Screen Flash then surely we should see the screen flash when its on and a notification happens ?
An option for trackball flashing would be called Trackball Flash.
IMHO
Thanks joemax, that's exactly what I'm talking about!
I'll try again and rephrase my question: You know how when you get a call, an alarm, or a calendar reminder, the screen turns on and shows you the call/alarm clock/calendar screen? I thought that was the notification flash of the screen. So why, even when you turn said setting on, does the screen remain off when you get a text message/email and only the trackball (and LED for email) flash? Is that a bug?

Only the wheel will flash. I've looked into a lot of Android forums for this and all the users report the wheel as flashing but not the screen.
Ok, but do we agree that the screen should light up for messages and emails based on the options in the settings menu?
There is a program that turns the screen on when you get a message, and also one that pops up the text message on screen. If thats any help!

SMS Popup from Market! GET IT! Cracking App!!!!!!
Yes, it's called SMS popup in Market. I'm using it and it works fine for text messages. No popup/notification for email though.
The screen does not flash, it is probably just a mis-translation.
If you go into the 'Notification flash - Flash screen for notifications' settings it lists 6 tickboxes for things like Missed Call and Email etcetera.
Basically think "trackball flash" where the menu is reading "screen flash" and it works, this is the page where you decide which events warrant your trackball flashing a notification.
I leave mine to flash only on Incoming Call, Missed call and SMS.
Having it light up for every work email that comes in is a pain.
The screen does not flash as was configurable on some older HTC Windows Mobile units.
Kind Regards.

Sorry been away, peeps have already named it for you..
When the G2 first came out, I saw owners asking if they could get the LED (showing power/charging status) working as a notification LED. Fair enough, I thought, I'm sure someone will get that working.
However, when I got my DZ, I found in the settings (under "Display"), a section on "Notification flash", subtitled "Flash LED light for notifications". Then under that section you can turn on or off "Missed Call", "SMS/MMS", "Email", etc. Mine are all ticked, but when I get an SMS the LED doesn't flash.
In the PDF manual, the section on Settings->Display doesn't mention anything about this.
Does this work for anyone else ?
EDIT - Mine does work after all ! It's the trackpad LED that flashes. See post #21 in this thread
the option in the setting reffers to the trackpad light doesn't it?

I didn't think so, but I don't know for sure. Anyway, nothing seems to flash, neither the trackpad nor the power LED.
Same here, all ticket, but nothing happens !!
It works here, i can remember pad glowing on/off slowly. Also when got mail, the green led is blinking iirc. I will try to observe this more now if it works in all cases...

I have no notification sound on new mail either. It does vibrate but nog sound.
All boxes are ticked (vibrate and sound) in the mail options...
U can use the LED for notifications when you install a program like sms pop up.
Standard the light notifications are set to use the track pad
Use the app LED me know , does exactly what you need it to do and more !!

Try the "LED me know" app from the Market, it's working great for me - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=851220
It works on desire Z in both modes normal and compatibility.
I find it strange I don't see "Touchpad" until I enable Compatibility mode, I was expecting to see more options in normal, less in compatibility, as the name suggests.
At first I thought my LED was not flashing when I got an SMS, but i've realise its the trackpad surrounding light that flashes. Theres a long delay between flashes which is probably why i didnt notice it at first.

That's the stock ROM that the standard European DZs seem to have (I mean English ROMs). So the same as me. Weird, because it doesn't work for me at all.

Its faulty then, send it back pal. When you receive an sms, the 1st 'pulse' of the light is when you get your vibration, then every 10 seconds ish after that.
I have no problems with this either however is kind of weird.
When I get mail, the led that is located at the top of the telephone (the one that changes color when charging from red to green when is fully charged) flashes.
However if it is a sms or miss called the one that flashed is the trackpad.
Is this suppose to be like this?
I think it's the same for me. Also, from what I've noticed, the upper LED will flash indefinitely until the email notification is dismissed, while the trackpad ring for SMS will only flash for a few minutes, not until I actually read the SMS.
Don't remember what the notification is for missed calls, I'll have to test more. I'd like to have that ring flash whenever I have an unread notification, and keep doing so until I dismiss the notification... The way it's now, also using the upper LED, seems inconsistent.
Hello guys,
I am trying to help a friend set up his Wildfire as he is new to android.
His biggest problem is the missed call / sms notification led. When he has a missed call, or a new sms the led notification lights up for five minutes and then turns off. Is it possible to leave the alert led on until he interacts with it?
The phone is brand new and still running the stock rom
Any help would be apreciated.

Just search for 'LED Me Know' on this Forum / GetJar. It should help.
I have used it personally, however, in the latest edition, theres a bug, that even after you have interacted with your phone, it keeps the notification LED on randomly. However, previously, I used v1.06, and, it worked flawlessly.

Thanks very much for responding,
I have tried both missed call and led me know, but they both time out after 5 minutes.
Am i missing something?
That's weird. Because I distinctly remember in my case, when I used it, the LED would keep blinking for hours at one go, till I checked the notification.
Did you try enabling 'Compatibility Mode' in the App Settings?

Hey 3xeno,
Thanks for responding.
Compatibility mode seems to be greyed out in my phone and i cannot select it.
Should the phone be rooted?
Thanks

No, it doesnt require root. One more thing comes to my mind, did you disable the stock ROM's option to flash the Notification LED?
Menu > Settings > Display > Notification LED
And GMail LED Notifications from GMail > Settings > More Settings
If, even after doing this, you cannot enable compatibility mode, refer the original thread of the app here and contact the developer, as he says:

Good Luck
