Flash screen for notification - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hey fellow Heroes (that's what Hero owners are called, right? )
Does your screen flash for notifications?
In the Sound & Display settings, there's a setting called "Notification flash", subtext "Flash screen for notifications" and you can set for the screen to flash for calls, messages etc.
Now I have all the boxes ticked, but when I get a text messages or email, the screen doesn't flash, only the trackball (for text msgs) or trackball and LED (for emails).
Is it just me or do other people experience this too? Would be nice to see the screen flash and get a quick little text message preview or something.
Thanks for any replies!

No screen flash here either - stock Orange Hero.

wheel
Only the wheel flashes IMHO

So what's that option in settings for then? Nothing? Is this a bug or am I misunderstanding what the option is meant to do?

I have my wheel flashing as soon as some new email or notification arrives. Clearing notifications clears the warning.

Is the screen not a different beast entirely from the trackball / wheel / round spinny thing ?
If the option says Screen Flash then surely we should see the screen flash when its on and a notification happens ?
An option for trackball flashing would be called Trackball Flash.
IMHO

Thanks joemax, that's exactly what I'm talking about!
I'll try again and rephrase my question: You know how when you get a call, an alarm, or a calendar reminder, the screen turns on and shows you the call/alarm clock/calendar screen? I thought that was the notification flash of the screen. So why, even when you turn said setting on, does the screen remain off when you get a text message/email and only the trackball (and LED for email) flash? Is that a bug?

Only the wheel will flash. I've looked into a lot of Android forums for this and all the users report the wheel as flashing but not the screen.

Ok, but do we agree that the screen should light up for messages and emails based on the options in the settings menu?

There is a program that turns the screen on when you get a message, and also one that pops up the text message on screen. If thats any help!

SMS Popup from Market! GET IT! Cracking App!!!!!!

Yes, it's called SMS popup in Market. I'm using it and it works fine for text messages. No popup/notification for email though.

The screen does not flash, it is probably just a mis-translation.
If you go into the 'Notification flash - Flash screen for notifications' settings it lists 6 tickboxes for things like Missed Call and Email etcetera.
Basically think "trackball flash" where the menu is reading "screen flash" and it works, this is the page where you decide which events warrant your trackball flashing a notification.
I leave mine to flash only on Incoming Call, Missed call and SMS.
Having it light up for every work email that comes in is a pain.
The screen does not flash as was configurable on some older HTC Windows Mobile units.
Kind Regards.

Can we fix this bug once and for all?

Can we please fix the stupid bug that has plagued HTC Touch flo devices since the Diamond..
The fact that notifications dont display on screen. This could be email, sms, tasks or reminders. You have to tap on the icon on the top of the screen, tap two more times just to display the notice. Before the notice would just appear on screen.
I know in sounds/notifications you can set the option 'display on screen' - this works until you soft reset your device, then it reverts back to 'dont display on screen'. What on earth is causing this? something in the registry?

Strange, I don't have this bug using the stock ROM.
The notification bubble is always here. However, when I use WKtask, it can be hidden behind it although no task is running. I can make the bubble visible if I tick the preference/general1/Hide the task-list when there are no tasks option.

This is caused by TouchFlo.
You can disable this behaviour:
Start -> Settings -> System -> TouchFlo -> disable the third option (I'm on a German ROM so I don't know the exact name, but it should say sth about status).

There you go. This is why I had never experienced the bug because the first thing I do after hard reset is to didable that feature. Never wanted the extra screen.
So, anyone still saying that he did'nt believe me when I said I never had that problem?
Oh thank you all!! This problem was bugging me a lot, now it's working great! I can see the notifications directly on my screen, as I expected! It was annoying to make 3 clicks to get the messages.

You dont even have to. I use Duttys rom and there is still that annoying bug! Sometimes the icon looks like the message.. sometimes like a baloon tip. Cant figure it out.
The balloon is when you have more than one notification I believe, it uses the balloon as it cannot fit both icons on the top bar, ie email recieved, missed call etc.
darthbane2k, search the forum for SSMaPa and you'll have it working in no time

Screen comes on when message received

Is there any way to stop the screen turning on when I receive a text, I dont always want to read it straight away and when the screen comes on in my pocket I find i press all sorts of things.
Very annoying.
start - settings - Sounds & Notifications - Notifications (tab at bottom) - select "Messaging: new text message" and unclick box for display message on screen.
Hi,
What about delivery notification ? It's not possible to change notifications about it, and it's always turn the screen on.
thats what i thought i have the box unchecked and the screen still comes on

Hmmm - I think this is a bug in the system because I have heard other people with this problem and I personally have the box checked to see the window but it does not always appear.
A soft reset should correct the behaviour BUT the problem will return.
Try at least the soft reset and you will see the correct behaviour (if only for a while !!)
how annoying is this an issue of tf3d overriding windows settings?
Also interested in dropping the screen wake up upon sms arrival and confirmation text. No need, the sound/vibration is enough.

Tried this, it still wont work.
Anyone had any luck getting rid of this issue?
Ultimately I dont want the screen to wake up unless
a: someone is calling me
or
b: i turn it on
Any ideas?
Try with HD Tweak. I enabled the option in HD Tweak, but found the same issue (I was making calls when the phone was in my pocket and I received a text message). Then, I disabled from the same HD Tweak and it didn't turned on the screen anymore.

How do I make the screen light up for incoming calls and msgs?

After having a Fuze for a year I just got a Pure with WM6.5. On the Fuze, the screen would light up whenever there was an incoming call or text message. So far, the Pure doesn't do that. Is there a setting somewhere that I can't find?

Start - Settings - Sounds & Notifications - Notifications - choose Event - Check display message on screen.
And after that you can read the manual of your device, so you don't have to open new threads like this one...
That's just it, Mr. Senior Member. I don't have that check box in my Sounds & Notifications.

It has to be there 26 times. 1 time for each event Mr. Junior Wiseguy...
At the "incoming call" event, there is no checkbox "display message on screen"... Just pull downs for sound and type (sound, sound+vibration, vibration only, e.g.)

Exactly right, Capu. I can't find a "display message on screen" sort of choice anywhere. I feel like I'm missing the elephant in the living room. 26 elephants.

For incoming calls the screen has to light up by default. You can't disable it. Are you sure you don't have installed third-party software with a screenlock? For the other events, you have to find one of the 26 elephants...

[REQ]Unlock with Trackball and Trachball Light Notiffication in FROYO

I dont know if this is the right place to put this so move the thread willingly.
I was wondering if there is any way to get the Trackball Light notifications and the Trackball wake mod working in froyo. I know the source hasnt been released but maybe it is still possible... maybe

Paul from Modaco says that he'll get right on it as soon as the source is released. He himself wants it quite badly (follow him on his Twitter if you want to know ASAP when it's released).

Then how do you enable them? We're you able to enable them? They don't work on my phone. Its back to the old white pulse every 5 seconds for everything.
hmm i have "Light" checked in google voice, ebuddy, and Gmail doesnt have an option in their app but i have "Pulse notification lights" enabled in the default menu.
Im guessing its up the app developer to select the color notification light.
Yep, really missing trackball wake.
As for the color notifications, they just seem to work here out of the box...
I dont think you need to open a new thread for this topic. Everyone waiting for it, cant you learn how to wait? Dont just ask for something, learn how to understand something. At least understand the situation, source is not release yet. So be patient!
DL screenmode from the app market and set it to screen lock off. Trackball wake up should work. Just found out about this yesterday lol

nice! just have to make sure you remember to turn the screen off when you're not using it...
I think trackball is much more useful. I got so used to it by now that its really annoying to use the unlock button at the top. Also its annoying that the Email light and the SMS light are both white....
Sitting by for further development i guess haha
Since HandcentSMS & ChompSMS no longer work - I've reverted back to 'SMS Popup' and the stock messaging app.
SMS Popup has 'LED colour' in the notification settings - so you can set to red, just like CM...

I bought LockBot Pro for Froyo for switching on with trackball, and it works great
(as long as you install or move it to internal memory)
The ChompSMS beta works great on Froyo too, and it makes the LED flash Green for me.

why? phone will sleep in 1 min anyway.. with or without screenlock..
never really understood who needs that locking feature.. doesnt the screen only respond to the fingers?
im using app called No lock. it removes that sliding locking AND enables trackballwake on froyo.. at least worked for me..

Handcent already releeased 3.0 that works with froyo. Been using it with no problems for a day now.
Most lock screen apps will allow trackball wake. Lock Bot works as well
There is an app on the market called no lock that let's you wake up your phone with trackball.
Hancent and ChompSMS both work now, and allow custom colors for your trackball alerts.
Google HAS enabeld the color trackball notif for the nexus one. See link below for use:
developer.android.com/intl/fr/reference/android/app/Notification. html
Now anny app can use those notifications, no need to be root. You can now just start having some fun!!!
I've noticed some of my trackballs notifications are different colors now but has anyone found a way to speed up the blinking?

[Q] Set screen to not turn on after I receive a text

I bought an LG G2 yesterday after changing my mind and not buying a Note 3 instead. It's the T-Mobile version in black (fingerprint magnet, no white ones in stock unfortunately). I'm coming from a Galaxy S2, and everything feels amazing compared to it. There's one thing I don't like, and that I can't figure out... When I get a text on my LG G2, the screen lights up, every single time. I'm a pretty heavy text user, and I average about 10,000 texts a month. Sometimes I'm in a lecture and I can't text back or use my phone, but it's sitting in my pocket with the screen on wasting my battery and opening up all kinds of apps. How do I disable this? Thanks.
I know you can change text apps that have this option.

That's what I tried, but there's nothing about the screen in there.
I have notifications enabled, new message pop-up enabled, preview enabled, notification sound (text ringtone), vibrate set to always, and repeat alert set to every 2 minutes. Besides those settings, there's nothing, and none of them control the screen unfortunately.

Cant you just on click "notifications display message notification" ??
I'm using the app SMS pop-up to manage all my SMS notification.
The stock app has it's notifications all turned off.
As for SMS popup, there is a setting to keep the screen off when SMS is received.
Well.. I don't like the screen to turn on as well (I don't use any lock screens) and also, I like the pop up feature.
