Hi guys
Any solution could map Genious button to an app or system function.
like this:
one click = any app
two click = wi-fi OFF/ON
hold = any app
Any ideas?
No like this. But in development section they have remap.
1 click is any app, hold is genius or google voice search

Thanks.
I saw someone changed /system/usr/keylayout/glacier-keypad.kl
Key 217 FUNC_4 = Hold = Genious button
Key 183 SEARCH = 1 click = Search
I also use one app called "Lock Now Free", it can change "HOLD" to "Lock Screen".
But I am still wondering how to map "two click" to Wi-Fi ON/OFF.
Hope someone could help me.

Double tap alt and it locks you into the number and secondary keys.
Same goes for the shift key (arrow pointing up). Double tap is caps lock.

How do you get a reboot? On the G1 it was a three key press. What do you do on the G2?

Hold down alt and long press most keys to get an on-screen menu with more symbol options.
example:
ALT + (long press) j = [, {, <
ALT + (long press) k = ], }, >
If you go to the Swype page at http://swypeinc.com/tips-tricks.html there are a lot of good tips for using Swype that are not in the tutorial.
I use Swype when I'm typing something quickly and don't want to open the keyboard. These tips help a lot.
Also, most people probably know this but... The little dots on the bottom of the screen that shows you which home screen you are on... You can touch them instead of swiping to the next screen. Also if you hold-touch the dots it brings up a small view of all your home screens and you can choose one to get to it quickly.

Thank you so much for that! I was wondering how and couldn't get it to work.
It's probably in the manual huh? I never read those
Hanging up phone calls with power button
To me its a hassle not having a hard key end call button. Im not use to it yet but I just found out I can set my power key to end my calls wile im on the phone. I think its perfect.
This is how to do it.
Menu > Settings > Accessibility > You will be prompted to download a reader, just press cancel > Check "Power button ends call" and there you have it!
Not sure if anyone knew this.
if you use Launcher Pro you can actually make those quick keys useful. When you're in the assignment menu choose "Activities" (with the Launcher Pro icon) under "more". This will let you choose virtually any app process to launch with the key. For instance: I have one of my quick keys set to activate the Quick Compose feature in Handcent and another to open up the compose dialog in Tweetcaster. Waaaaaay more useful than just launching an app

Thanks for the tip! awesome!
btw, this also works by just long pressing letters
example:
(long press) e = e with all different accents.
(long press) n = ñ and other accents
The keyboard tip is pretty awesome

my tip. get ADW.Launcher, LauncherPro, or Home++. and useful widgets like the signal strength which lets you know 3G or H network. switch pro is also awesome. make a customizable power control
for those of you that may be unaware:
you can add a Power Control widget to the homescreen (quick access to wifi / gps / bluetooth / screen brightness)...
also there is a Calender widget which displays any upcoming appts & a Google Voice Widget that gives you more functionality than the icon alone.
Is there any way to assign another function to the search button.
I haven't seen anyone change the search button...
This... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714670&page=2 ... thread has some info on reassigning the optical button. Might be a good place to start. Guessing that edits "qwerty.kl" might allow you to reassign the search too.
Hope this helps.
Thanks but i think that only works for physical keys. Please correct me if im wrong.
I found an app in the market, name I can't quite remember, search along lines of "button assign" I think. Had it on 2.1 to try n hack up a way to lock phone. So search the market, its there.

It's called Button Shortcut. The icon is a grey camera. It can't replace the search button but you can assign apps to open on long press.
Here's your points as promised. Im still searching for an answer

This... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695936 ...thread has even more info on edits to qwerty.kl (yeah, different name on the Hero).
Yeah so after an awesome two hours of learning adb stuff and searching for guides on the keys for the aria (that were never found) has thrown me at another brick wall. because the keys that perform the search function have been remapped to the camera function but still no change after reboot and all. Someone wanting optical sleep wake had said he or she had to change the key number also which confused me. why would you need another key number? how does that work the phone should only know one key to relate to the functions not a psuedo key or a hidden key. All i have changed in the qwerty.kl is keys 127 and 217 (which are the same digits just moved around maybe something maybe nothing...) from SEARCH to CAMERA. this is ridiculous.
I've found that "in-app wifi toggle" by oliver on the msrket allows wifi toggling by holding down the search button. I find that its useful enough to keep.
One feature i miss from win mo is the customization of hw buttons.

Tasker has an option that can reassign the function of long pressing the search button. You can make it launch an app, direct dial a contact, change wallpaper, turn on WiFi. You can even make it do a series of events, including all of those I mentioned.

I use the "Quick Settings" app from the market. It utilizes the long press search button. It allows you toggle wifi, data, brightness, volume, bluetooth, etc, in app. Its handy if you wanna switch something on or off without exiting what you're currently doing.
weird.. i like the search button.
finds my contacts quick, or jumps to a google web search.
or jumps right to search when in twitter. to each his own.
For those who have the phone already. Is the genius button remappable to something else like search?
If not, is the genius button only activated when in the home screen. If you press the genius button in the browser or another application, does it bring up search?
I hope it is remapable. I use the search function a lot more than voice actions

Your local T-Mobile store should have a live demo for you to test it.

Pressing the genius button in an app only activates the genius software unfortunately. I haven't found a way to remap its function.

As of now, I am hopeful that someone makes a hack to remap the genius button to search.
What does a long press of the genius button do in home screen / other apps?
I hope someone finds a way to remap this as well, I will NEVER use voice commands, but I do often use the search key in Market and Maps.

I really hope it can be remapped.. the genius button is useless for me, standard search is perfect :-(
I would like to think once custom roms start rolling out that will be addressed..

So there's no way to get to Google search other than through the widget? And to use Google voice actions you have to use the voice search app? That's too bad. I like the idea of having a choice.
Does people miss the search button in GSII? I'm currently considering buying either a HTC Sensation or the Samsung Galaxy SII. I have a HTC desire now, and I use the search button a lot in different applications and think I maybe will miss a dedicated search button. Does the long press menu button bring up a special search application (regardless of foreground application), or behave like a press on a regular search button?
Regards,
PK
It's like the regular search button.
You will get used to it...

Thanks, that sounds good enough for me. I think I'll be ok as long as the long press menu action is linked to the regular Android search behaviour.

maybe in CyanogenMod ROMs, but I'm not sure...

Back button broken? Get Button Savior from the market.
I believe you can edit each buttons function, but the back button is pretty much essential, so you would be better using search instead.
Just edit the file at
/system/usr/keylayout/bravo-keypad.kl
I havent tried it but i imagine you just look for the word search and replace with endcall.

If u r on cm7 then u can make use of power button to end calls.
Go to settings/accessibility and check the option there.
And as said above I believe u can edit the keyboard layout at /system/use/keylayout/

I find it not so bad thing to not have one button more. As you can still call Search function just simply holding Menu button down.
It works that way in every app and homescreen as you would have fourth button for Search function.
Press Home to get home, Long Press to have list of last used apps (for multitask)
Press Menu to get menu, Long Press to make a Search for app or homescreen
Press Back to get back, Long Press to kill front application (great on CM7)
Only thing what I wish I could do, is to bind menu button in home screen (now ADW Ex) to open Applist and not the menu of ADW.
