hi every one
as we all know android OS no matter it is sense or noneense doesn't support ad hoc wifi connections and though it is a known issue for android, neither htc nor google has done anything so far to solve this problem
so...
i was just wondering if there is any way or application that we can connect our android phone to ad hoc connections
thanks for your help
oh and BTW
i'm using nexus one build nand because it is freaking fast
well if this helps
Apparently this works for Windows XP & Windows 7, but not Vista. If you've got Vista then you're asking for trouble anyway

What? So the article entitled "How to connect an android phone to your ad-hoc wi-fi network", with instructions about editing files that modify how your phone connects to wifi, has nothing to do with wifi?
I think you need to read the article again.

It appears Android normally doesn't support wifi ad hoc networking. I believe this is the only mode used by the wifi routers available for many phones. It would be great to have portable hot spots.
Google has been messing with this for the last two years, but apparently it's a low priority:
Issue 82: wifi - support ad hoc networking
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=82
The hardware should support it...anyone looking for a useful project?
I'm looking for the same thing also in my HTC Desire...
I found something like this: http://blog.joint.net/2009/07/connecting-android-phone-through-adhoc.html
But the guide says to modify the files but it doesn't say how. And also it refers to another forum wich I can't access...
Edit: This is the guide in Google Cache: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:fqqJ3W1PzaEJ:modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php%3Ft%3D22681+http://modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php%3Ft%3D22681&cd=1&hl=it&ct=clnk&gl=it

Very good .. Thank you... But I mainly use Mac OS X and Ubuntu..
ah well perhaps time to move to windows?
I tried to use connectify, but it messedup with my other com hardware and caused windows crashed with blue screen.
What i saw is that Connectify creates virtual device for every hardware and duplicate it with connectify suffice. I use a CDMA modem on laptop to connect with internet and it conflicted with driver.
Though i already have configured ad-hoc wifi on laptop and have used it with my previous ROM (Wildpuzzel V 8.0.1) but it does not work with CM7 ROMs
Hi,
as there are no threads about this (i havent found anything), i will post a new one.
my main question is: is it possible to get a wifi connection on your phone and share this connection at the same time through wifi (so you get a wifi hotspot or whatever)? (android, windows mobile, windows phone -> whatever, got a HD2)
it works on multiple computers with windows 7, but i never got how to do that with ma HD2.
hopefully,
sallal
EDIT: forgot the [Q] thing, sry

they're are many apps that can do this, just search WIFI tether in the market (android), IDK about WM7 though.
For android you can also run CM7 which has tethering built into it. I use it and it works like a charm, it's fast too.
Sorry for my question ,but with this program i can use my tablet as a router?
I have 3G so i can use this connection for internet and WIFI for make my tablet a router?
the app allows you to "tether"/use your device as a router. SO yes.
The are CMInternetSharing package that is used to share internet connection from a Mobile (that we get using GPRS/3G) as a WiFi Router to others...
If you have a WiFi Connection that your mobile is consuming then what is the need for re-sharing same connection from mobile?
Let me know if I am not sure about the question
Thanks.
Am no expert but i think this is true...
A wireless device can either be used as a client or as a router, you would need 2 wireless interfaces to do what you are looking for. When the tether apps start they configure your wireless interface as a router... I dont believe it can be running as both types at once.
but you most defenetly could use your 3g or whatever cell signal you have and offer it thru a wifi interface, you must have root access.
Cheers
maybe there is a way
you could switch the wifi with a 3g lookalike so 3g uses your wifi and then download a wifi tether i am looking for this quit a time and i diddn't found anything but this is al theory
I do it with a stock app of my device, it's calls "3g mobile's wifi point"

hmm that would be a thing i should look at...
i always used on windows 7 "connectify me", a program made for taking wireless internet connection or LAN and sharing it at the same time as a router.
the virtual wifi miniport is used for this i suppose.
maybe there is something like the virtual miniport to manage in windows mobile or android?

I use one from the XDA forums, search for wifi router
It works great on my HD2 with WINMO
sir,i have already mentioned.....try "mhotspot" easily converts ur lap/pc into wifi hotspot(n/w will be detected by android mobiles, worked for my ACE) its better than connectify because..we dont need to install it..and soo we can over come protocol related problems and system instability issues
iconia tab a500 Cant find/connect to 'hd2 as wifi router'. But Laptops find and connect to my 'hd2 as wifi router'.
I did not reach the connection limit (only the iconia).
Tried different roms and i still get the same "other devices can connect but not the iconia "
appreciate any input.
It might be because the HD2 is creating a wifi Ad-Hoc network and android can't connect to those for wifi. Other than that, not too sure.
is your HD2 running windows or android ?
I don't own one, but elsewhere on these forums saw reference that the HD2 does ad-hoc networking when it acts as the router.
You need to do the wpa_supplicant fix on your tablet to be able to use it. The same file that fixes the Xoom works on our A500's.

widows wm6.5
Thought I would post here as people here (HTC Hd2) might have an idea.
I have HTC HD2 running WM6.5 I'm normally able to connect to various laptops using the HTC wireless router no problems.
I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 (Android) and it can not see the HTC - I note from other threads that this was because the HTC creates an AD Hoc network and android can't see these? (don't really understand the technical issues there!)
I have tried manually setting up a wireless network using settings on my laptop when that is connected but the Tab did not like the settings I used.
Any advice on how to manually setting the network up?

not sure if it'll work for you, but you could try 'WiFi Thether' app
WIFI tethering is from an android OS phone that creates a wifi hotspot that you can then hook up your wifi laptop to.
HTC HD2 phone running wm6.5 has an ad hoc network and that is what the android Tablet can't see.
So I need to work out how the android tablet can see the wm6.6 ad hoc network

oops, somehow did not realise it's the opposite direction, shame on me for overseeing the obvious...
anyway, I had no problem connectiong my CM variation to ad-hoc network on Win XP laptop, so maybe your problem is device-specific,
maybe you'll find some useful ideas here (post 11 ?)

All are so much talked methods but none them worked. Have you tested these process in your phones???
I tried and none of them worked. Connectify didnt worked and AdHoc just reboot the phone while getting IP. In GDX, GingerCruz, GingerXperia and Ginger Cyborg. Hahahaha
Have any new idea?
i also tried to share my laptop internet through wifi with X8, but failed, i was reading a lot about this virtual wifi adapter on win 7 and i tried connectify, Virtual Router, mHotSpot etc ( almost everything possible, command line too) but no good result, but in Connectify i was able to established a wifi connection with laptop, and connectify software showed no errors, but couldn't load any web pages or market, there must be a error in somewhere and till today i couldn't able to find it.
Did anyone got this working successfully, please share it with us....
thanks

I use Kuyadroid and I used to get reboot when screen timed out on ad hoc but with newest version I have very fast and stable connection. I suggest you try it out yourself, it's cwm and xrec so easy install and OC to 691mhz gives smooth games and scrolling plus great battery life.
Set up an unsecured ad hoc network for testing and clear all your remembered wifi settings on x8.

ok, great news. i will try.
For almost any OS other than Windows 7 - you need to root your phone, add ad-hoc network support and create a shared wifi connection in your PC.
For windows 7, you can use virtualrouter to share internet with android -
How to share pc internet with android.
It would have been very easy if android supported ad-hoc. But unfortunately they don't (even iphone supports adhoc) and from various threads, they don't seem to have any plans to support it in future as well.

The best thing you can do is BUY a Wi-Fi router. They're really cheap now, and you can connect many things at them.
lols, did u all shared the lan connection to wireless one? and seem like mine rom also reboot if not active on wifi
Just use connectify ...
Easy set up ...
Im using it ..
