Hello XDA...
This is my first post, but I have come across a problem with my relativly new Vodafone HTC Legend. I had Cyanogen android 2.2 running on my device, and I used ROM manager to upgrade to the Cyanogen Mod's nightly builds. I created a backup during the ROM instillation, and received a warning saying there may not be enough space on my SD card to back up the existing ROM, but i continued with the backup. It then displayed backup successful. After a few days of use of the newest Cyanogen mod's Nightly build i decided to revert to my old OS using ROM managers restore from backup function. ever since my mobile will now longer load any further than the HTC logo.
What I have tried so far:
-Holding the back key while pressing the power button... and the result:
something called boot loader, which displayed a menu of 4 items... BOOTLOADER, REBOOT, REBOOT BOOTLOADER & POWER DOWN. After selecting bootloader the next menu freezes while and then displays green writing mentioning something about no image, but removes itself from the screen to fast to be read. The new menu is composed of... FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE & SIMLOCK. Following instinct I pressed recovery, the HTC symbol is then displayed again, and then a black screen with the image of a phone similar to the HTC hero, with a red triangle and a exclamation mark.
Any help you can provide would be exceptional. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.
Many thanks
Stephen Gray
Hi Stephen,
If you are stuck like this, the best thing to do is a FakeFlash. It launches ClockWork Recovery - then use nandroid to restore again.
If that fails, there is still a way to recover I think.
If you install the ROM you were using before and the data.img file is OK, you can install the ROM as if installing new ROM, then in nandroid choose Advanced recovery and recover "data"...That should recover your system to it's previous state... of course if your data.img is corrupted, you'll have to set everything up...
Thankyou
All I can say is... i owe you my life... I even have all my pictures still! Brilliant!
Great! Just click thanks that's all I need

Hi,
Today i made a nandroid backup (its add my computer now)
i forgot to wipe but that isnt needed
then i flashed a custom rom villain 5.2
flashing went ok and then i rebooted the phone
startup the following things happend
- Hero on screen
- HTC brilliant logo on screen
- Hero logo with the 2 androids (greenthingies) on screen
- HTC on screen
and then nothing anymore (for 20 minutes now)
did i miss something or do i have to wait longer?
how can i restore the nandroidbackup which isnt on the sdcard rightnow but on my HDD
can someone plz help me
Don't panic, just take the battery out, breath, put it in and boot up again.
If that doesn't work then just boot back into your recovery and you can then connect the phone to the pc from there to put your nandroid back on the sd card.
Thanks for the help nandroid backup works fine.
after the restored backup i did a full wipe and flashed the villainrom 5.2 again.
Now it looks like boot goes better unlocking simcard now
You probably ran multiple zip updates sequentially before performing the first boot, didn't you? I experienced that, when you install VillainROM 5.x, you should first install VillainROM itself and then perform a boot first before installing things such as the rosie fix. Else, it wouldn't boot on my device and got stuck at the same point you described.
When i boot into recovery mode it looks all normal (home and power). I can move up and down to highlight things but when it comes to selecting them the middle select button won't select them. What is up??
Update: I installed it but it was stuck on TATTOO boot. I have factory restored and currently waiting for it to go into setup
Have i bricked my phone as it isn't booting past TATTOO
Did u make a nandroid backup or wasn't this possible also?
I would say download Original HTC ROM from htcpedia and try to flash this one (it's a setup file which you just have to execute from your PC, which then tries to flash the stock HTC ROM...cross your fingers that it'll work...:/

You need to use green call button.
I have tried a few tutorials to install ROMS. I worked out i have to use the green call button a while ago. I use the Nandroid backup but i can't seem to flash any ROM. I couldn't use OpenEclair 1.3, AzusaROM and Fyodor and non work. Something doesn't seen right
I tried installing the Fyodor rom again and it just hangs still. I did a Nandroid backup (my phone worked as i did the phone install ROM) and wiped the phone to factory reset. Then i Flashed from .ZIP file and restarted it. What have i done wrong? I can't load ANY rom.
Edit: I tried the Azusa ROM again and it has loaded to the point where you can see the full picture of the girl in the picture. I don't want to use this rom but this is the only one that works... So far
Edit 2: I have Azusa working Fine. But it is not what i desire.
Any assistance is appreciated.
I rooted a few days ago and did the forever S-off. I have ROM Manager loaded and was poking around in the system. I downloaded Skyraider and ROM Manager asked me to reboot. Not thinking it wouldn't let me know what it was doing when in recovery before doing something the rom had been applied. Now the Phone has for 40+ minutes been at the "HTC Incredible" boot screen.
I have read not to pull the battery but The power Button and Volume button do nothing so I could really use some suggestions. As a little more info I have not flashed the radio yet so it was a 1.x radio that a 2.2 rom was just seemingly applied to.
Bricked or recoverable? I have a Nandroid backup if someone can help me get back to that point...
pull the battery out this happened to me before... pull it out and go into recovery mode ... first download on your pc 1.0 baseband .. then while in recovery load that into your sd...then install it to your phone... that will take your phone back to when you first got it out of the box... after that load up baseband 2.0 then root then raider
You could also try booting into cwm recovery and do a wipe data/cache
Did you get past the boot screen?
I am also stuck on the boot screen.
With some advising to pull the battery I did so. It did allow me to boot to recovery and I restored the backup I had taken. I am back up and running as if nothing had happened. I will revisit flashing the radio to the right version and trying the rom again soon.
I guess I bricked my iconia...
I installed Recovery, etc. But when I rebooted my device it starts up, and shows my initial display screen. But it locks on the display (it is past the Android, and Acer screen).
So I tried to recover the device using the unbrick procedures described in this forum, and others. But it seems whenever it tries to process any update.zip file including the unbrick the little android man either stops turning or displays a sign indicating things did not work out as they should have.
I have clockwordmod backup from my system. How do I use that backup? When I use my phone the device automatically boots into xrecovery and allows me to restore. How do I get that with the Iconia?
first of all your device is not bricked as long as you can boot into any type of recovery.
second you obviously have cwm installed, but anyhow even if you don't have it i hope you have an external sd-card.
dl any of the stock rom's from the dev section, basically best is to choose the rom made for your country.
extract the update.zip and put it on your external sd-card.
then install it with cwm if you still have it, or with acer recovery (volume - and power simultaneously until the recovery text shows up).
and then take it from there.
also good idea is to clean dalvik cache and data cache before restarting if you use cwm.
then you can reinstall root and cwm.

Thanks... The problem is I can't boot into anything.
How do I boot into cwm? I can't boot into the operating system as once it hits the display screen with my picture the system freezes and tries to power down?
I have been playing around with acer recovery, but all of the updates I downloaded will not load onto the system. It tries to install, gets about 1/3 through and then gives me an error.
Hence why I was thinking that maybe my backup has something?
push volume - (left volume button) first and power and keep your fingers on it until it displays the recovery text message on top left of the screen
If you are getting into recovery. And flashing. A rom give you errors or does not complete. This issue is a bad d/load.or a bad currupt SD card.I would say format your SD card again.redownload the correct rom again.don't use a download manager.then decrypt. Unzip then put the update.zip on your SD card turn off your tab install SD card.
Reboot
Holding down volume up and power until you see the 4th line of txt. It should take you to cwr. Or flash your device
good luck
Yep.. use vol-down and power to boot into cwm. Keep holding vol-down until you see tiny white text in upper left corner.
Then do full restore. When it's done, if you don't see "Backup Succesfull!" message, you'll need to restore flexrom from the advanced restore menu. This is because it failed trying to restore .android_secure.img and caused cwm to restart before flextrom was restored.
Alternatively, you can delete the .android_secure.img file from your backup set before doing the full restore.
Good luck.

Thanks guys for all of your feedback.
However, when I hold down the buttons you mentioned I do get those text items you mention. The problem is that unlike my android phone it does not pop up the recovery menu. It goes straight into the Acer Recovery procedure (The android with turning gears).
Could it have been that upgrading to a specific ROM the recovery procedure is shortcircuited????
What I am trying to figure out is how to get the recovery menu.
Same deal!
I have the exact same issue. The Update.zip will not take and the Android Gears screen gets to 1/3 before the yellow triangle. Any further help would yield loud THANKS!
your update.zip should preferably be those 3.1 full. cos I believe it does not check anything for it to fail.
Thanks Kenny that does help and explain a few things.
hi all
i recently got my phone rooted (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070) using this method for the gingerbread stock i dont remember which step but its for rooting gingerbread...after successfully rooting phone i wanted to make a backup of my nandroid...that seem like a process...the recovery mode didnt have backup/restore option...so i was in the rom manager app and changed the flash recovery model (its the very last one on the rom manager) after doing that, it went into reboot but never leaves the "samsung" screen....so i took the battery out and was able to get into the recovery holding down both up/down and power button...and did a backup of current rom (stock)...and then select to reboot which still stays onto the "samsung" screen...so i am stuck and i dont know what to do anymore...or is a simple flashing a stock rom would fix it?

odin back to stock, reroot, ditch rom manager, and make sure your getting into cwm 2.5 red recovery for performing a nandroid backup.
