To get this phone in to recovery mode?
I'm attempting to reset the phone since he is locked out at the pattern screen and vrz wants 40$ to do a factory reset. Is it factory reset the only way around this

We are confused as to why your samsung image comes up three times lol..it should be once....ie hold buttons..image comes up..release.

If you keep holding the buttons, "SAMSUNG" will keep flashing on the screen. You can let it flash as many times as you want... but there's no reason to. As soon it says SAMSUNG, you can let go.
Press and hold both volume buttons and power button at the same time until Samsung logo comes up. Once u see that, let go of the power button but continue to hold the volume buttons and the stock blue recovery mode comes up.

Hold all buttons and while hopping on one foot scream at the top of your lungs "YALLA WANNA ADROOOD WALLA HEEEE!" 2.5 times. Then while simultaneously releasing the buttons use all your inner strength to fart.
That will work.

Hey guys for some strange reason my Evo's power button is not working at all. Its def not jammed or broken and it just started happening last month. Idk if its CM's fault and its a bug or what. Im lost any sugggestions would be super awesome. Thanks

I've never heard of CM7 causing something like that- though I assume you mean you have your evo on but can't press it to bring up the power menu. If you mean the power button won't turn the screen on, check to see if the buttons are at least lighting up. If they do, that's a backlight issue caused by the CM7 kernel, not the power button. Try to turn the screen on and off a few times and the backlight should eventually come on. Then, in cyanogen settings, turn the screen-on animation off- that solved the backlight issue for me.
Otherwise, try pulling the battery to turn it off, then plug it back in, if it doesn't turn on at all when you hit the power button from there, that's a hardware issue and it's time to take it in to get fixed.

There is a widget as well that you can apply that will put the phone to sleep for you.
I see so many threads where people say "I had to pull the battery".
This is not necessary just hold down the power button for over 10 seconds and your phone will reboot.
Hope this helps some of you.

I Tried it earlier also but I think I didn't pressed the button for 10 secs. Now when I read your post I re tried and waited long and phone rebooted. Thankxx man.
Power + Home always works for me, seems to take less than 10 seconds too.

Sometime, u really need to pull the battery out , let say, for example, when ur phone boot in a loop and just showing the samsung bootscreen....
But I agree with u, most problem that people share here doesnt require to pull the battery out
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Actually you can usually enter download or recovery mode while the phone is looping without even touching power button. The power button part of the sequence is just to turn on the phone. Just hold home and vol up/down and the phone will enter recovery/download the next time it reboots. I have only had to pull the battery once it was when something goofed in download mode.

Surprisingly, not many people know this. It certainly saves some wear and tear on your battery cover. I didn't know it for a good few months of owning my device. I hope a ton of people read this!

Apparently when I applied a bit of Brain then I discovered that u don't need to switch your phone off compeltely for going into recovery mode.
Just try this- press and hold power button for 5 secs or so and then press volume up and home button. Keep all of them pressed and you will enter into recovery . It isn't such a gr8 find, its the same as what u do when u turn your phone off and go to recovery but its more easy.

I beg to differ. Rebooting to fix issues doesn't work all the time either, is it useless to suggest that too?
I've had my galaxy s since launch, and it has never failed to reboot by holding the power button. So for whatever special cases where it may not work, there are literally hundreds that will. This fact alone makes this thread anything but useless. Besides, the battery cover is not very durable, anything that helps to avoid removing it is good, even if just occasionally.

Hey all multiple times I have wanted to take screen shots and I was wondering does the nexus 4 come with a default screen capture or do I need to download one of the apps to do this. I know some androids are starting to come with this feature default finally such as the S3.
Also can anyone give me a reason as to why screen captures have not been implemented by Google. Legal issues with apple? No reason?
Thanks all

no point in installing useless apps that consume memory when its in the OS natively. its not that difficult to press two buttons at the same time and getting it right. once you do it once or twice, you'd get the hang of it and all is good.
either that or flash a custom rom and u can add the screenshot button on your long press power button menu.

It's very tricky. I said the same thing when I was doing it on my galaxy Nexus but got the hang of it.
Place your hand on the volume down and power button before pressing them and then hold them both at the same time until your phone makes a screen shot animation.
I will give Samsung this though the slide to screen shot is very intuitive on the touch wiz platform.

Try first powering off your phone. I had a little issue and i could not get the shutting down menu after several attempts, the phone restarted it self and after it was up, I was able to take screenshots without any difficulties.

I've done a lot of rooting and flashing and all that on many phones... Just kind of curious because sometimes I end up in a boot loop in the past.. What would I do if that happened on my nexus 4 or 7??
There is obviously no battery pull.......
