I figure I may as well give myself a few full days in Android to have a proper play (I tend to drop back into WinMo when I want to do anything).
I find that (despite clicking "no"!) my contacts from the phone automatically got backed up to my gmail account so I have those available.
I use the (internet) favourites screen in WinMo sense and have then backed up to MS My Phone.
Is there any way to transfer/export my favourites from WinMo to my Android build please?
Also could you guys recommend a decent ebook reader to read by epub books from the sdcard?
Thanks
If I remember correctly I used active sync to sync favourites, these then appeared in ie under "mobile favourites". From there you can export them to a htm file, then I followed this guide with the following program on Android!
http://www.rerware.com/MyBookmarks/default.aspx
Sorry if it's a little vague, just trying to remember when I first did it in July after weeks of googling for a simple way! Hope this helps, if not I'll try retrace my steps but I'm pretty sure this is how I accomplished it!
Thanks. I will give it a try.
What do I enter for "device id"? The serial number?
You'll need to do that on android, open the program and it should give you one to enter online I think, then upload from your pc, then in the program import and it'll give you the choice of importing all or one by one should you want to be selective
You can do that with HTC Sync. Copy your favorites to your PC, and create a folder as you see on my screen.
HTC Sync will sync your favorites to the default browser.

He could only do that if flashing a sense build though right? Other method will work on any
I have a sense build - the Desire HD build.
Thanks all.
I have uploaded to that mybookmarks app.
Need to finish my novel [winmo ebook reader] first!
worked fine, thanks.
Now how can I get it so that when I click the Internet button on the homescreen it opens the bookmarks page so I can click on my faves rather than defaulting to the last page I was looking at?

After I couldn't find an app to sync iCalendars with pocket outlook, I decided to make my own. Note: it IS buggy and not complete (eg ALPHA). Use at your own risk but it works fine on my PPC-6700 using a google calendar.
It supports syncing normal events as well as all day and weekly recurring events (eg every week on m,w,f) I designed it so that it can run on a timer in the background and update whenever or you can trigger it yourself. I'm not a pro developer so its not the best in the world but it works for me!
Also, it doesn't delete anything from your phone, only adds new items or updates existing ones (keys off of the title of the appointment).
I plan on posting it up on a sourceforge site soon and making the code public.
Attached is a screenshot of the interface. Yes, very simple.
Instructions: To install, download the attached cab, copy the cab to your device and browse to it and tap it to install.
Then you can configure it with the url (I recomend copy and paste from a text message or something if the url is long) select if you want it to auto update or not and if so, how often. Make sure you save the settings so they are stored for the next running.
Very good idea !
I was just thinking how I could sync Google calendar with Pocket Outlook
A question before I try : which url do you enter ?
When I browse Google calendar on my PC I get : http://www.google.com/calendar/render
Is that it ?
I probably should've mentioned that. For google calendar, go to settings, calendars, then click the calendar you want to import, and under private address click ical. Then copy and paste the url it gives to a text message and send it to the device so you can copy and paste it into the app (thats what I did).
Ok thanks.
I'll test your app tomorrow morning
This is a great app. Do you think you can make an update on google side, ie pocket pc overwrite the google calendar. It doesn't need to be a full sync at the beginning, but this would be a great addition
At least being able to sync appoints from the device to the google calendar would be great, no need to necessarily wipe them. That is, a bi-directional sync, with no delete. If an appointment needs to be deleted, it would just need to be deleted from both locations.
Generally sync apps have the following types of options:
Local -> Remote (No delete)
Local -> Remote (Delete remote entries that are not present locally)
Remote -> Local (No delete)
Remote -> Local (Delete local entries that are not present remotely)
Remote -> Local / Local -> Remote (Do not delete any entries)

Any news on this?
Posting code to sourceforge
Hi,
Could you please post your code to sourceforge. This way we could help you develop this piece of software. Would be appreciated.
Regards,
Gerard
Any word on this? I'm anxious to see/start working on it.
I was just looking for something like this! I will try it when I get home from work. Hope to see continued development.
This app is great and exactly what I was looking for. I have been using it for a couple weeks now.
One thing, I noticed that it only pulls in the first 50+ characters of the appointment's description. Is there a way we can get the whole description?
Is there any update on the status of this project? Is going to be put on Sourceforge? I would gladly contribute to working on it.
Thanks
Josh

I had the same problem. I got the .net compact framework from below:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6B-356B-4A2C-857C-E62F50AE9A55&displaylang=en
I wonder if the developer of this app is still around.
Chanced my arm and tried it with WM6 on a TyTn-II ... started and ran OK, but then got errors regarding file layout / format.
Not sure if these are because I am on WM6 and the app is written for WM5, or if the ics file ( from Google Calendar ) is in a format the app doesn't like. I think more likely the former, as the post seems to indicate it was written with GCal in mind.
So, has anyone else had any luck with this in WM6, or even know of something similar. Don't need two way sync with device, just a way to dump my GCal onto my handheld.
Cheers,
nwpsys
No matter, oggsync seems to work for me, as I have tinkered with my GCal calendars a bit to have all my key stuff in one, so I can use the freeware version of oggsync
Google Calendar Sync
5 March 2008 Google Calendar Sync allows you to sync events between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955
You can now access your Google Calendar account from your mobile phone! Just visit mobile.google.com/calendar/ with your phone's web browser and once you're logged in, you'll see your list of upcoming events with date and time information in an easy-to-browse format.
Cheers

Me too- Win mobile 6.1 on a Tilt, no good. Call method errors.

Tried it, got errors. I also would really like to see this come alive again, don't want to use Google Cal in any way. Using Rainlendar desktop cal on my 2 pc's with a common ics file on the ftp server. Works perfectly, but would also like to keep my phone up to date automaticly/semi automaticly.
Im using the new Energy rom, 06/08. I set up all the links in facebook to my contacts, but as most of you know the energy ROM gets updated often. Im a flash junkie, so I follow them.
Is there any way I can export the links, it took me about an hour to link them up and im not going to do that every week or so.
Thanks for your time.

You can use SPB backup. The only thing is everytime I restore my contacts It restores every contact twice and I have to go through and erase them. Pim backup backs up contacts but I dont know how to carry over the facebook links.
Yea I know how to backup my contacts. Infact they sync to outlook. I just dont want to have to restore the facebook links everytime.
Thanks for your reply
this would be very helpful for me also. i too am an energy rom user & would luv to know how to backup the facebook links. dscottjr81 can you verify SPBbackup does work for this?? i also wonder if Sprite Backup would work? i know PIMbackup does not carry over the facebook integration.
anyone?
maybe the facebook stuff is in the facebook.vol in your root directory? \facebook.vol
just try it
facebook.vol is for the facebook application produced by microsoft.
you use the link your contacts in the manila contacts page, right?
I have nothing else of facebook installed, and have the \FacebookInfo.vol on my phone, so I think thats one of the files for the "manila facebook" ..
but here is another solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538513
Il back that file up and restore it see if it works. Il also use your link in the event it dosnt work.
Thanks very much.
I have over 75+ facebook links in my phone, so having to do them all again would of been very troublesome for me. I did however figure out how to backup all of the links and current PIM information for your phone.
Backing up and Restoring the ENTIRE PIM(Calendar, Contacts, Tasks) and the Facebookinfo Vol file is the only way to get your Links back intact.
Before you do this, you should do the following things to prepare for the restore. If you have an active sync partnership with a computer allready, in your active sync settings on the PPC for that connection, set you sync conflict mode to "Keep items on my device". This will prevent dupes from appearing in outlook on your PC as well as on your phone. If your synced with an Exchange server or google mobile, unfortunately the Exchange connector lacks this feature. You'll just have to manually De-Dupe those.. Sorry.
When all of this is done, Download and Install Total Commander (Google it). Open total commander and in the root of your device, rename the "pim.vol" and "facebookinfo.vol" files (If they exist. If not, then fill out your personal card and link atleast one facebook contact). Once these are renamed, copy your old pim.vol and facebookinfo.vol files into the root, and soft reset. You should now have all your contacts, tasks, calendar entry's, and facebook links.
Edit: I just checked my gmail account after doing this method (Which is being synced via the exchange connector) and I only found a few dupes which may of been left over. Post your experience if you do this as well.
Try using microsoft my phone, looking at the details it has synced to my account it saves the fb links as a note, ive not reflashed the phone since i got all my links connected, i only got the phone yesterday and am trying out my 1st rom since moving over from the Kaiser. Loving the diamond compared to my old trusty heavy Kaiser.
I have always used Microsoft my phone for backing up, i like the sync my location as if i ever loose of get my phone stolen at the press of a button it will tell me where it is

My phone does not backup/restore facebook links. I'm not sure if it is even aware that manila creates them. Where did you see this in details? The sync details in my phone is very basic and doesn't say anything that detailed. When I look at the sync settings in the latest version of my phone, it doesn't even give an option to backup notes, and there is no mention of notes in the online profile either. Where did you see this?
In my PC the Internet Favorites' Library is arranged in a way that most of the links are stored in sub folders as according to the subfolder issue. That is to allow quick search among large number of stored links.
Regretfully after copying the favorites list to the HD2 – the HD2 will present all links in one long list.
So if you have 300 links, you have to roll it a lot till you reach link number 288That is frustrating and makes it not useful at all.
Is there any way to rearrange the HD2 Internet Favorites' library in windows style with subfolders?
Thank u all in advance.
You can use sub folders, but sadly when you open your favourites, the sub folders are displayed open.
Silly really, but it seems there is no specific fix just yet.
If you are using Opera, you can get the "old style bookmarkfolders" back by changing the value of "HKLM/Software/Opera/Info/UseOperaBookmark" of 0 to 1.
yea that opera one is a bit awkward, because opera doesnt get its bookmarks from the WMDC sync (the mobile favourites are synced with int exp on the pc as part of sync) and the manila tab favourites wont see the opera fav structure, only the synced one.
Solution ?
So maybe someone can take it as a challenge and create a solution for the benefit of all users?
Thank u all.
This is why I keep hoping Fennec will stop sucking; so I can transfer my Firefox bookmarks straight over.

heh, maybe yea, but then it becomes an extra task to perform regularly., and how about new favs created in opera? you gotta export them the other way too. Easy to forget, flash, gone.
(Doesn't affect me, lol i only have a dozen mobile favs, so i didnt look much deeper into the issue)

I was thinking the same thing as i refuse to register my device just to download sync software, it was not like this when i downloaded HTC_Sync_2.0.38 a few weeks ago, and i can download HTC_Sync_2.0.40 without registering a serial easily and use it with no issues, matter a fact i was using HTC_Sync_2.0.40 to sync my outlook and calender even before HTC_Sync_2.0.38 was released so why make us register the device?

Ok, after using this new version i must say that its a step backwards. I like the new GUI and all the eye candy and the ability to install .APK files but it lacks the basic functionality that the HTC_Sync_2.0.38 had.
For instance the old version told you at a glance the number of contacts in outlook and events on the outlook calender, where it is at during the contact syncing and calender syncing. It also gave you more advanced options on syncing.
On this new version Outlook must be set as you default mail client for it to connect with it which is completely bogus. On first connect the device synced on it own using the latest modified data which created duplicated in outlook and my phone, deleted the duplicates from my phone and tried to sync again and it completely wiped the data from outlook, i used the nandroid to restore the contacts to the phone and tried to sync again to get everything back where it was.
A bit angry with the music syncing. The files sync to /Music/ then the full file directory. so if you music is stored in c/:users/username/my documents/music you media wll be synced in the same structure /Music/c/users/username/my documents/music which is more complex than it needs to be. A simple music folder with music/Artist/album is sufficient. Then it took 1 hour to sync 3.8GB of music, that same 3.8 GB takes less than 15 if i remove the card from the device and put in in the card reader.
Long story shorty, im reverting back to HTC_Sync_2.0.40. Sometimes less is more.
Funny that now the new sync is no longer availble on HTC site and the link was changed back to HTC_Sync_2.0.38
http://www.htc.com/us/support/aria-att/downloads/
Hmmm...
You probably want to get on the ball with finding this software as it really has been pulled from the site. Some people have upped the new version for download, so do a search, grab it while its hot and sit on it if you want to sideload with the software (without rooting).
Edit: You can grab it from this thread if you don't have it already

I've used Spb products for years and never had a problem with them. But I've never used this one, I don't have any android devices. You might want to check it out. I don't know if it let's you reverse the process and go from Android to WM, but it's worth looking into.
Spb Android Migration
Thanks, bro for trying to help!!
The thing I probably omit to mention that both Sensation and HD2 are Android based phones.
I'll give a shot with SPB program!!
Really appreciate your help!!
You're welcome. I would think that since they're both Android it would make things simpler than trying to go back from Android to Windows. There's gotta be a utility to move things between Android devices. It looks like .dot Fred isn't doing Android stuff, but there are a lot of bright people like him. Good luck!
I would sync the HD2 with an google account using ActiveSync. And do the same with the Android phone.

Importing WM Contacts into Android
You need PIM Backup, a computer with internet access and a Gmail account.
1. Open PIM Backup on your Windows Mobile device. Select the Backup action and unselect everything but contacts, then hit Next.
2. At the "Select backup filename and folder" screen, unselect the "compress backup" and "binary backup" options, then hit Next.
3. Transfer the BACKUP.PIB file that you just made from your phone to your computer. Change the extension from .PIB to .RAR, then extract the file.
4. The extracted file should be BACKUP.CSC. Simply change the extension to .CSV and import the file to your gmail account. All your contacts can now be imported to your phone through gmail - just follow the instructions given in the phone's contact menu.
or activesync with google http://www.google.com/support/mobile...&answer=138636
since they're both android based, here are three offline ways:
1- you can use "my phone explorer" which can back up/restore/transfer contacts in a flash.
2- you can use titanium backup on your wife's phone to make a backup of contacts, transfer the contact backup file to the HD2 and restore it there, a hot reset and you're good to go.
3- if you're using a sense based ROM on the HD2, most of them come with "transfer data" app, you can link both devices through bluetooth and get all your contacts transferred to your HD2.
I've tried all of the above solutions with pretty much 100% success.
