X10 End Of Life With AT&T On March 6th - XPERIA X10 General

The X10 will reach its end-of-life with AT&T on 3/6/11. Android Central has an article on this information.
With that news, I find it hard to believe that AT&T will release any X10 updates from Sony Ericsson. They'll probably just keep its users on 1.6 and be done with it.
XDA is the only hope for U.S. X10 owners!

If real enough, it's bye-bye X10 for AT&T.

Well AT&T sucks more than SE. Not sure why they are delaying the 2.1 update for the handsets. Thank god I flashed the x10a world generic from here!

LoL they totally fked over x10 in america. But don't worry.. rogers isn't doing much better. Except how they managed to get us 2.1. Which none of us even use.

I'm kind of suffering this issue I'm with Claro. Guatemala and they will never release even 2.1 update.. If I had stick with them I'll be in 1.6 forever.... They aren't gonna release 2.1 .... That's why I love Xda ....!!!! Because of the updates ...

Could you link that article? I'm almost 100% sure they mean 3rd June and not 6th March... which is still a short period, but still better than March
Edit: Yup, looks to be true. March it is.

I was on the phone with AT&T for an hour today. I cant believe I am reading this after what she said. The good news is AT&T has now paid me the $75 rebate I got for "buying this phone".

If you like xda updates, then why don't you stop waiting on your lousy service provider and update yourself to 2.1 here on xda? The great part is once you update your phone, you won't have to worry about your cell phone company blocking you from future Xperia X10 updates anymore.
It is easy and safe to do. Just click on the link below, and follow the steps for X10i_2_0_A_0_504_GLOBAL (this version is rootable, if you decide to do so in the future)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793
Make sure you use Backup and Restore to backup your system and contacts to your sdcard before you start, and then restore your data when start up your 2.1 updated X10.

I completely agree, man. I'm using AT&T, and I'm in the exact same situation as you are!! Even worse still, AT&T block users from installing apps not downloaded directly from the official market, giving us even more reason to ditch their crappy branded firmware and flash with global/world firmware.
It seems to me like these two companies should never have teamed up...they both seem to hate their customers more than any company I've ever seen in my life!!!

I dont think AT&T is cutting the X10 just yet. Its too soon.

I don't really mind if AT&T does axe the X10. I've debranded and rooted my X10, effectively removing myself from under AT&T's thumb. I think Android is going to get more love in the very near future though. If the Verizon iPhone is indeed announced on Jan 11, AT&T will experience such a mass exodus that they'll have to change their strategy. The loss of iPhone exclusivity will force AT&T to provide at least a semblance of support for its remaining customers. It would have to release the Arc and other Gingerbread phones to survive.

The X10 itself is a Great Phone the Problem is just the SE and their Devs, they are to dumb to make a running 2.1 /65k Xd), they should fire all and call the XDA Devs they are 100 times better. Such a great Phone but such a outdated Software.
Vote for the x10 for sure. SE may have done a terrible job keeping this fine piece of hardware up to date but given time I'm sure the devs here will fix that. With 1.6 on the x10 we are not seeing its full potential.

Correction: persistently delayed update. Im not a legal expert but personally I feel that I made a purchase on a product that was falsely advertised. X10 is great on paper but why advertise the 2.1 update if they can't delivery it until October.
Also do you not find it slightly annoying that the post on SE blog regarding update was made this morning (23rd), and delayed by weeks again when most people were expecting the update this week. Surely they knew this weeks ago?

It's not really persistantly delayed. It was set for Q4 this year, got pushed forward to Q3 then went back to Q4. Shuffled is the word I would use
Still...I would really like to know what on earth went wrong...
Don't get me wrong, I think SE are a bunch of twats (can they even crack their own bootloader? They should give the devs some help and we would have CM6 running in no time), but I still like the phone the way it is. It suits my needs and I can't ask for more than that.
And yes it's very annoying that they have to break the news to us while everyone is waiting for the update that was supposed to go live any second now

I think we're getting DL15, not DL11 - Found this on samsung.com

Every morning I do a quick search of the interwebs to check for new ROM leaks - so I search "Epic" "Froyo" "DL11" "DL15" etc.
I just googled "Epic Froyo DL15" and THIS was the third result. It looks like an unfinished FAQ for a DL15 update.

So after more than a week, Samsung still hasn't completed this simple FAQ, no wonder it's taking them so long to get FroYo out.
I don't see why they wouldn't push out the latest version. Average person isn't going to want to flash again a week later for minor fixes.

This is really the only reason I miss the evo...atleast the coorperate devs t htc and sprint rolled out updates...they have gotten 3 updates while we are still stuck on di18
I have to be honest, I'm really reconsidering buy this thing. The evo can be modified in all kinds of ways, and it gets updates from Sprint/HTC in a much more timely fashion.
Samsung and Sprint doesn't seem to give a crap about the Epic for some reason, I'm not sure why since Sammy has sold close to 10 million of these galaxy s phones. I mean if you don't support these devices and provide timely updates, I don't see people being repeat customers of Samsung.
This has been my first non HTC smartphone, and frankly its looking to be my last, its a shame too, the hardware itself is terrific.

It's not that they don't give a crap about it. Froyo was designed on and optimized for a different processor and file system. For whatever reason, Samsung insists on using their own file system, which means they basically have to port Froyo to work with their specs. In addition, a company that only makes phones and pda's like HTC, can concentrate 100% of their resources on those products. While Samsung is making microwaves, TV's, Cameras, and whatever else, so they prioritize a little differently.

There comes a point though when they have to actually release something. Would you still be ok with the wait if they decide to start working on build DL21 and then move on to DL24, etc... and not release a damn thing in the mean while?
This is just freaking ridiculous. We were promised before the end of the year we would have Froyo and it seems that is not going to happen now.

that's the thing, too many people not recognizing the difference between "knowing" and "assuming" as well as "truth" and "rumor".
they "assume" it will be 3.0 because the Arc and Play's roms are 3.0. so they assume that SE's rom designation for 2.3 is 3.0.
but what they don't realize is that 3.0 could also be the designation for that particular generation of devices. or designation for hardware configuration. could be anything really.
no one really knows for sure, but they'd rather get upset and pull hair out of assumptions and rumors.
assumption is the mother of all f ups.

Now since you were to lazy to do any research yourself, here is it for you.

SamsungJohn is back

So SamsungJohn is back and since the Vibrant has not received an update to Gingerbread I think we might get a final answer as to whether not we are getting it.
(I honestly couldn't care less I'm happy with my phone but it would be nice to know for sure).
So SamsungJohn, do you have any information like you did with Froyo?

Yea sorry to burst your bubble, but im pretty sure his big announcements are going to be to announce upcoming nexus devices.
I doubt we are going to see an official Gingerbread release for the vibrant because it doesnt just pop up over night, an official release require extensive testing, the likes of which usually result in leaks or at the very least somewhat substantiated rumors. If you recall in our wait for Froyo we saw countless leaks over the span of several months.
I for one cannot wait to see the announcement for the prime and other nexus devices. Im through with carrier branded devices.

Oh I already know that the big announcement is probably in relation to the upcoming Nexus device. What I was talking about is post #15 where he says:
Thanks Chainfire, please do stay in touch. As for me, I'm going to check out some of the XDA Samsung forums and see what's been going on.

Vibrant is a Samsung device so I thought he'd come in here and people might be interested in getting a definitive answer whether or not the Vibrant will be getting updated or not from a legit source.

Ah my bad, i only read the first page :x lol
I got his attention:
SamsungJohn,
I'm not meaning to harrass you at all, but is there any way you could shed some light on whether or not the Samsung Vibrant will be getting a gingerbread update?
It has been in question for a long time now, seeing as the other SGS devices got it... we are all kind of wondering why it was left in the dust. I mean, Gingerbread improves on the CPU the Vibrant is equipped with, bringing it to its full potential more-so than Froyo.
I, and many others purchased the phone on a 2 year contract with updates in mind. Its only a year old phone, it seems kind of rude that it has already been abandoned (if that is the case) I know you don't make all the decisions there at Samsung, but If you can see it from our point of view, could you maybe speak with someone that does have control over the situation?
I love the Hardware, beautiful screen, and Samsung in general... But please John, tell them they are going to lose future customers if they drop phones after such a short amount of time. It irritates people who bought a phone with the SGS label, and already people are seeing it as inferior to device to those of the same timeframe, such as the G2... Because HTC has kept the phone updated and their customers happy, Many of them will return to HTC for their next device.
Thanks for your time, and being a part of this community.

I haven't heard anything about the update for the Vibrant. As soon as I get some valuable information I will let you know.

Seriously I'm not hoping anymore, I'll just be disappointed anyway.
I just hope we'll be have a port of custom rom ICS.
Why don't you guys just use this as a freaking learning lesson. Don't purchase anymore Samsung phones (exception Samsung made Nexus).

Lol! Samsung is quality and there notches above everyone else and everyone knows that. Plus we have XDA for updates in my opinion

Maybe your energy should be focused at Tmobile, who had proven track record of not providing updates.
I do believe that going with non carrier based phones is the correct track.

I am not sure what SamsungJohn's official title or job is but he is certainly not in customer relations. He has never given a decent straight forward answer. I almost think I would rather have a lower quality phone that gets updates than a high quality hardware phone that never gets updated.
I love my phone but not releasing updates has made me think my next phone and tablet will not be a Samsung device. I have a 2.2.1 wifi Galaxy Tab that has never seen an update and a Vibrant with only one update. And to be fair, the update to FroYo on the Vibrant was something that it should have shipped with to begin with. To compound the issue we get no response or time frames on any updates. That is just horrible customer service.
Thanks for the hardworking of T-mobile or Samsung,
I wont get any Android products without "Nexus" in their ass
I will stay with T-mobile because it suits my current needs. 2 lines $130, unlimited un-throttled data on both; but I will never buy another phone that is not Nexus.
I almost rather be the douche with an Iphone, know it's being locked down, have less features, etc, but know I will have a working gps and support in 6 months. Being able to make calls....well they are all just holding the phone wrong anyway.

I'm really not sure when people are going to get it. It's Tmobile to blame, not Samsung.

Ice Cream Sandwich to xperia line

It's not too early to say that SE 's poor customer support days are over. They are working on ICS updates to their single core devices already. I am sure we've already been really satisfied with the bundle of updates being rolled up by SE, but this is incredibly good news.
Also added from the other thread.

Please stop posting old news about the updates. SE confirmed that they will start working on ICS After the source code was released.

i honestly wasnt expecting ICS for SEX devices
I'm still mad about the face unlock thing. No James Bond retinal scan? Lame.
Good news though. It's about time SE got with it.
Awesome, Really gives me confidence that SE is not that bad after all, Never been a fan of using another ROM, As I love Sony Ericsson's, I will use another ROM once the Xperia Play is no longer updated or supported by SE which I hope never happens while I use an Xperia Play as my primary device.
I always had confidence in SE. <3 this company and their phone. Now, if only we could get it as stock ICS and not with their UXL overlay. Maybe with ICS it'll be much better looking, have to wait and see

It will be google pushing ICS, they will want most top end phones on ICS so they can start ending support for older OS version

Verizon version came as vanilla gingerbread so we might even get it sooner. Late 2013 or so seems about right!

Yes, SE were very quick to release a statement about this.
Asus have also said that they will be upgrading the Transformer to ICS. This is all a lot different from when Honeycomb was released.

From using Google the best I can work out is that in a Dutch language blog SE Netherlands said that they will be upgrading all the 2011 Xperia phone to ICS.
However, SE told Slashgear that no decision has been made

Your timing error is what made the article irrelevant though. Your outdated article greatly contradicts the new one that SE made ... making people believe that there is no such ICS update when really SE confirmed the updates after the launch of ICS source codes.
It's like positing an article about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus telling people it's a 8mp camera and not 5mp but using a 2 month old article as reference....
